JASPER EDWARDS

Jasper Edwards, 53, husband of Mary Drayton Edwards, died Feb. 24, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Aug. 8, 1951, in Lee County, he was a son of Paul Shaw Sr. and the late Catherine Edwards Shaw. He received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. He was employed by Diebold Incorporated and Dixie Products Inc. of Sumter.

Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Jasper Jr. and Jeremiah Edwards of Mount Holly, N.J.; three brothers, George (Betty), Randy and Ray Charles Shaw, all of Sumter; two sisters, Mary McFayden Keith of Ocala, Fla. and Barbara Shaw of Sumter; a grandson, Datron Sintell Alson of Sumter; and a father-in-law, James Drayton Sr. of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sammie Lee and John Edwards and Paul Shaw Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., with Pastor James Drayton Jr. as eulogist and Elder Champagne presiding, assisted by Evangelist Rosa Drayton, Pastor Rembert and Evangelist Thompson. Burial will be in Colclough cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers and floral bearers.

The funeral procession will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the home of James Drayton Sr., 204 Armstrong St.

The family will receive friends at the home of James Drayton Sr. and the home of Paul Shaw Sr., 414 Highland Ave.

Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

GEORGE R. PARKER

George Raymond Parker, 66, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center after an illness.

Mr. Parker was born in Florence County, a son of the late Steven and Sally Selemer Carmon Parker. He was of the Holiness faith.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Kirby Parker of Sumter; a son, James Parker of Sumter; a daughter, Gloria P. Ard of Johnsonville; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Brockington Funeral Home chapel with burial in St. John United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will have visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Brockington Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.

JOE L. FELDER

Joe Louis Felder, 66, husband of Rosetta Mellette Felder, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 5, 1938, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Mango Smith and Rosa Bell Felder.

The family will receive friends at the home, 545 S. Main St.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St.

ANTONIA S. SMITH

Antonia Shirah Smith, 82, widow of Gordon C. Smith, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East.

Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

MARY N. THOMAS

LAKE CITY -- Mary Nell Thomas, 33, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at McLeod Hospital in Florence.

Born July 19, 1971, in Newark, N.J, she was the daughter of Mattie Thomas.

The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Yvette Graham, 340 Airport Circle, Lake City.

Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home.

HENRY M. RICHARDSON

LAKE CITY -- Henry M. Richardson, 60, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Carolina Hospital in Florence.

Born Jan. 4, 1945, in St. Stephen, he was a son of Maybell Richardson.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Ida Bell Burgess, 310 Liberty Drive, Lake City.

Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home.

DEBBIE G. TAYLOR

REMBERT -- Debbie Deloris Grant Taylor, 49, wife of Reginald Taylor, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 30, 1955, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of Laura Floyd Grand and the late Harvin Grant Sr. She was the mother of Waukeshia and Reginald Lorenzo Taylor.

The family will receive friends at the home, 4620 Borden Road, Rembert.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter.

ELLA M. PENDERGRASS

LAKE CITY -- Ella Mae Pendergrass, 51, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at McLeod Regional Hospital in Florence.

Born April 6, 1950, in Cades, she was the mother of Cris Pendergrass and Donny Pendergrass.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 830 Sherwood St., Wren Village, Lake City.

Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home.

LIZZIE JANE D. GAMBLE

Lizzie Jane Dickey Gamble, 80, widow of Nathan Gamble, died March 1, 2005, at Mariner Health of Sumter West.

Born July 30, 1924, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Player Dickey.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Clara G. Reardon, 8515 Fullard St., Lynchburg, SC 29080.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

BOBBY J. GEDDINGS Sr.

Bobby Joseph Geddings Sr., 62, husband of Loretta Hodge Geddings, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at his home in Sumter.

Born Sept. 30, 1942, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Clifton and Beatrice Barkley Geddings Peebles. He was retired owner and operator of Bob's Appliance Service in Sumter and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Bethel 13 Fire Department.

Surviving besides his wife of Sumter are a son, Bobby Joseph "Joey" Geddings Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Sumter; a daughter, Lisa G. Powalie and her husband, Jimmy, of Myrtle Beach; five brothers, Clifton Geddings of Augusta, Ga., Phil Geddings, Tommy Geddings of Sumter, Jerry Geddings and David Geddings of Cumming, Ga.; a sister, Betty Moore of Alpharetta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Abbie Geddings, Nicholas Powalie and Kyle Powalie; a godson, Jamie Hodge.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Burgess and the Rev. G.W. Harrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, 515 Miller Road, Sumter, and at other times at the residence, 4205 Lisa Drive.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 2401 Bethel Church Road, Sumter, SC 29154 or to Tri-County Hospice, 1236-B Wilson Hall Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN SIMMONS

John Simmons died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Frank and Elouise Conyers Simmons.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 55 Frazier St.

Services will be announced by Scriven Funeral Home of Sumter.

DEBORAH ANN CHARLES

MANNING -- Deborah Ann Charles, 46, died Feb. 28, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born May 17, 1958, in Manning, she was a daughter of Lila Mae Samuels Charles and the late Vance "Buster" Charles.

The family will receive friends at the home of her mother and grandmother, Maybell Samuels, 1556 Sparkeman Road, Manning.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

VERNON R. YOUNG

Vernon Ray Young, 56, husband of Madeline Corbett Young of Columbia, died Feb. 17, 2005, in Georgetown, Grand Cayman Island, Caribbean.

Born Jan. 13, 1949, in Jacksonville, Texas, he was a son of Mary L. Young of Houston, Texas, and the late Columbus Fry. He started singing at the age of three. People would give him quarters to hear him sing. It was at this age that he realized that singing would be his life's career. At the age of 13, he accepted the Lord and joined the church. He was educated in the public schools of Houston, where he was raised. He joined the glee club at Bruce Elementary School and went on to receive many musical awards during his school years. He attended Texas Southern University, where he majored in music. He previously worked with the Outlaws of Houston, Archie Bell and the Drells, and Vernon Young and the Touchtones of Columbia. Vernon joined The Original Drifters in the early 1990's, where he performed as one of the leading vocalists.

Survivors include two sons, Brian Young and Michael Ross, both of Columbia; one brother, Bruce Young; two sisters, Rebecca Oscar and Mae McNeil, both of Houston.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Castleberry.

A wake service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Marion H. Newton Family Enrichment Center, 415 Manning Ave., Sumter, with the Rev. Jacquelyn Pinkney Mathis, eulogist, the Rev. Roy Mathis, presiding, assisted by the Rev. J. Elbert Williams.

Burial will be in Walker cemetery, Sumter.

Pallbearers will be Paul Shields, Anthony Taylor, Abraham Alston, Ron Miller, Larry Mason and Hampton Wright Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Pinkney, Chuck Cockerham, Richard Dunbar, Charles Fowler, Ralph Johnson and Terry Woods.

Floral bearers will be Nancy Bradford, Jenita Mason, Rebecca Robinson, Debra Willis, Myra Wright, Diane Isaac, Carletter, Williams, Lydia Woods, Jackie Blackwell and Sandra Brailsford.

Honorary floral bearers will be Frankie Griffin-Brown, Earthalee P. Johnson and Toni Williams.

The procession will leave at 1:15 p.m. from the home of Bill Pinkney, 300 Pine St., Sumter.

The family will receive friends at the home of Bill Pinkney, 300 Pine St., Sumter.

Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.
