MARY H. FERRELL

Mary Huggins Ferrell, 91, widow of Sam Ferrell, died March 1, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 30, 1913, in Silver, Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Mose and Mary Belson Huggins.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Thelma Johnson, 553 S. Main St.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

FRANKLIN B. FIELDS

Dyson's Home for Funerals announce the passing of Franklin Bernard Fields, age 55, who entered into eternal rest on Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born in New York City, N.Y., he was a son of the late Moses W. Fields Sr. and Melvina Caldwell Fields.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two children, Gerald Franklin Fields and Nicole Fields, both of Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Deloris Cook of Manning; a brother, Moses W. Fields Jr. of the home; two grandchildren, Devine and Jazmine Fields; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

The family received friends at the home, 301 Brunson St., Manning.

Services of love and memory are entrusted to Dyson's Home for Funerals of Summerton.

A.C. BROCK Jr.

SUMMERTON -- Adger Cowan "A.C." Brock Jr., 80, husband of Willadean Ray Brock, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at his home.

Born Nov. 24, 1924, in Seneca, he was a son of the late Adger Cowan Brock Sr. and the late Lorraine Poore Brock. He was a retired manager for Fluor-Daniels and was a member of Summerton Baptist Church.

Surviving besides his wife of Summerton are a daughter, Teresa Steadman of Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Phyllis Rhye of Edgefield; four grandsons; two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Mellette officiating, assisted by the Rev. Rob Pierce. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Rhye, John Rhye, Joshua Rhye, Randy Rhye, Jason Chestnut and Britt Parker.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 1373 Edmonds Way.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

KATHLEEN L. HOLLIDAY

HAMPTON, Va. -- Kathleen L. Holliday, 83, died Feb. 27, 2005, at home in Hampton, Va.

Born June 22, 1927, near Manning, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. Walker Holliday. She was a graduate of Manning High School and Montreat College, a member of Manning United Methodist Church, and retired as an administrative assistant.

She is survived by her brother, Lawrence E. Holliday of Georgetown; two nieces, Dorothy M. Reinhart of Newport News, Va., and Margaret H. Carter of Greenville; three nephews, Lawrence E. Holliday Jr. of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., Walker A. Holliday of Georgetown, and Dr. Joseph W. Holliday of Greenville; seven great-nieces and four great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy H. Mims.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Manning cemetery.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of local arrangements.

JESSIE LeGRANT

Jessie LeGrant, 59, husband of JoAnn Richardson LeGrant, died Feb. 27, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 19, 1946, in Lee County, he was a son of David LeGrant and the late Flossie Kennedy LeGrant.

The family will receive friends at his home, 894 David Alston Road, Wedgefield.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

ANTONIA S. SMITH

Antonia Shirah Smith, age 82, wife of the late Gordon C. Smith, died on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East.

She was a member of the Sumter Baptist Temple.

Surviving are one son, Leland "Vic" Nielsen and his wife, Patricia, of Sumter; three daughters, Gloria Ann Jones and her husband, the Rev. Bobby Jones, of Lawton, Okla., Rose Mary Sturk and her husband, Robert, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Rae Lynn Dennis and her husband, J.D., of Leornard Wood, Md.; one sister Dorothy F. Ahlefeld and her husband, Raymond, of Muskocee, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Jones, the Rev. Eddie Richardson and the Rev. Johnny King officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Sumter Baptist Temple, 2295 Harper St., Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

HARDY T. BAKER

MANNING -- Hardy Timothy Baker, 91, widower of Inez Foster Baker, died Feb. 24, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born July 5, 1913, in the Union Crossroad section of New Zion, he was a son of the late Grant Baker and Lou Alice Burgess Baker. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, he joined St. John AME Church in the Workman community of Kingstree. He remained a faithful member, serving as class leader, trustee and steward, until his health failed.

Survivors include five sons, James F. (Nancy) Foster of Chesterfield, Joseph R. (Sarah) Baker and Lowell T. (Debra) Baker, both of Manning, Therion E. (Mary) Baker and Trussie J. (Caroline) Baker, both of Reading, Pa.; five daughters, Dorothy B. Gamble of Port Charlotte, Fla., Frances B. Fleming and Alice B. (Stanley), both of Manning, Ida Ree Baker of Bridgeport, Conn., and Rosa B. (Charlie) Gamble; 34 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two adopted sons, Terry D. (Janice) Baker of Manning and Irvin F. Baker of Bridgeport, Conn.; and two adopted daughters, Eula Gamble and Essie Montgomery, both of New Zion.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John AME Church, Workman community of Kingstree, with the Rev. Dr. Franklin Reaves, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at his former residence, 1845 Little Star Road, Manning.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

KATHRYN L. HARRIS

Kathryn Lee Harris, the daughter of the late Julius and Ethel Singleton Harris of Sumter, died on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.

She was born Jan. 31, 1949, in Sumter. She was the youngest of six children. She was employed by the Kaycee Manufacturing Co. of Sumter. Kathryn graduated from the Ebenezer High School of Dalzell and Sumter Area Technical College, now Central Carolina Technical College of Sumter. She attended the High Hills Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memories, four sisters, Eva Mae Harris of the home, Martha E. Hunter, Ethel B. Crosson and Minnie Harris, all of Harrisburg, Pa.; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

One brother, Julius Harris Jr., preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday from the High Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. E.W. Palmer officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Chapel of the James Funeral Home.

LIVINGSTON SINGLETARY

Livingston "Liz" Andrew Singletary, age 81, husband of the late Aileen Hudson Singletary, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at his residence.

Mr. Singletary was born in Sumter County, the son of the late Samuel Willis and Clara Player Singletary. He was retired from Pioneer Dress Co. and from sales for Singer Sewing Center. He was a stock car racer and built race cars. He was a member of Wedgefield Baptist Church.

Survivors are one sister, Laurelle Hartin and her husband, Ed; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Singletary, and a sister, Lucille S. Andrews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wedgefield Baptist Church with the Rev. Darryl Davids officiating. Burial will follow at Wedgefield Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Batten, J.B. Walker, Mike Windham, David Boyce, Harold Truesdale and Pebble Gulledge.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roscoe Ford, Bobby Mellette, C.J. Gulledge and Buddy Gulledge.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hartin.

Memorials may be made to Wedgefield Baptist Church, 6220 Wedgefield Road, Wedgefield, SC 29168.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

JOE L. FELDER

Joe Louis Felder, 66, husband of Rosetta Mellette Felder, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 5, 1938, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Mango Smith and Rosa Bell Felder.

The family will receive friends at the home, 545 S. Main St.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

JESSIE LEGRANT

Jessie LeGrant, 56, died Feb. 27, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Feb. 19, 1949, in Lee County, he was a son of Dave LeGrant Sr. and the late Flossie Kennedy LeGrant. Jessie, affectionately known as Fuzzy, attended the public schools of Lee County. He joined the King Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lynchburg, at an early age. He was employed by the Brown and Martin Construction Co.

Survivors include a dear and devoted lifelong friend of the home, Joe Ann Richardson; two daughters, Verneshia Hannible of Columbia and Jessica Hannible of Durham, N.C.; an adopted daughter, Louise Hannible; three stepchildren, Millie, Roger and John Richardson; four brothers, Dave LeGrant Jr. and LeTroy Legrant, both of Lynchburg, Curtis LeGrant of Bishopville and Russell LeGrant of Sumter; five sisters, Rosa Mae Knight, Rebecca (Major) Bradley of Bishopville, Ruth Smith of Raleigh, N.C., Thelma (Leroy) Goodman of Lynchburg and Polly (Peter) Richardson of Manhattan, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon today.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today from the King Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Michael Fullard, pastor, as eulogist. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from his home, 894 David Alston Road, Wedgefield, and 12:30 p.m. from the home of his father, Dave LeGrant, 56 Gum Spring Road, Bishopville.
