JOSEPH D. SHUFORD III

Joseph Daniel Shuford III, 20, of Mount Pleasant, has gone to join his Lord and Savior after a courageous battle against cancer. His passing occurred Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at his residence.

The relatives and friends of Joe Shuford are invited to attend the Celebration of His Life at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Andrews Episcopal Church Ministry Center.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. (843) 881-9293

Joe was born Feb. 7, 1985, in Charleston, son of Joseph D. Shuford Jr. and Betsy Poe Shuford. He graduated from Wando High School and attended Lees-McCrae College. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, duck hunter, sport fisherman and snowboarder.

Most of all, he loved his family and friends.

Surviving are his parents of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Allen DuBose Shuford of Mount Pleasant; maternal grandmother, Barbara Jean Fann Poe of Manning; and maternal great-grandmother, Lois Fann Graybeal of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Koonce Poe, and his paternal grandparents, Joseph Daniel Shuford and Margaret Bradley Shuford of Columbia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Youth Ministry, 440 Whilden St., Mount Pleasant, SC 29464, or Hospice of Charleston Inc., 3870 Leeds Ave., Suite 101, North Charleston, SC 29405.

RUSSELL N. MCCOY Jr.

SANTEE -- Russell Norman McCoy Jr., 81, husband of Bobbie Collins Gerber McCoy, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Santee Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John C. Doubles officiating.

Memorials may be made to Santee Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 649, Santee, SC 29142.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

CASPER J. HABERKORN

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Casper J. Haberkorn, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005.

He was a veteran of World War II, having also served in the Korean Conflict. He was a devoted member of Northwest Baptist Church for 47 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Brewer Haberkorn, of 52 years; and was the loving father of Patty (Mike) McKemy, Jimmy, Tom (Debbie), and Ronnie Haberkorn; grandpa of Tommy (Jennifer) Haberkorn, Suzanne Haberkorn, Kelly McKemy, Ryan Haberkorn, Becky Haberkorn and Casie McKemy; also survived by a sister, Catherine (George) Baket; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Walter E. Minor officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove cemetery in Manning.

Pallbearers will be Mark Wise, Bruce Royer, John Smith, Greg Handal, William Brewer and Butch Baggette.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at Stephens Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence of Judy Brewer, 1152 Brewer Road, Manning.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, 2761 Liberty Church Road, Manning, SC 29102 or to Oak Grove UMC cemetery Fund, c/o Louise Thompson, 8178 Moses Dingle Road, Manning, SC 29102.

JOSEPHINE C. SMITH

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A memorial service for Sarah Josephine Cooper Smith, 95, who passed away on Feb. 13, 2005, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, Sumter, with the Dr. Rev. Joseph F. Peek officiating. A brief graveside ceremony will follow later in the day at Sumter cemetery.

ANGELA H. CANTY

MANNING -- Angela Renee Holliday Canty, 31, wife of Devon Canty, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Born Nov. 13, 1973, in the Silver community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of John F. Holliday and Sarah Mae Adams Holliday. She received her formal education at Scotts Branch High School, graduating in 1991, and furthered her education at Central Carolina Technical College, Sumter. She attended St. Mark Baptist Church in her youth and later she attended Friendship AME Church. She worked at KFC in Manning during high school and later at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter. She was presently at L&R Industries in Sumter, until her death.

Survivors besides her husband, Devon Canty of the home, and parents, John F. and Sarah Mae Holliday of Silver, include two beautiful children, Tiavonna and Tyshon Canty of the home; and three brothers, John R. Holliday Jr., Charlton B. Holliday and Terrance D. Holliday, all of Silver; two god brothers reared in the home, Floyd Wilder and Bertie Wilder; and three god sisters reared in the home, Glenda Wilder, Katie Henry and Julia Robinson.

She was preceded in death by a child, Davon Holliday Jr.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Taw Caw Baptist Church, Alex Harvin Highway, U.S. 301, Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson, pastor, the Rev. W.J. Chandler officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.H. Pringle, the Rev. Joseph Postell and the Rev. Dr. James B. Stukes.

Burial will be in Friendship AME Church cemetery, Silver.

Pallbearers will be classmates of Scotts Branch High 1991.

Floral bearers will be classmates of Scotts Branch High 1991.

The family will receive friends at her residence, 9214 Silver Road, Manning.

DEBBIE G. TAYLOR

REMBERT -- Debbie Deloris Grant Taylor, 49, wife of Reginald Taylor, died Feb. 27, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 30, 1955, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of Laura Floyd Grant and the late Deacon Harvin Grant Sr. Debbie attended the public schools of Sumter School District 2 and furthered her education by attending Allen University, where she graduated with a degree in sociology. She was a member of Grant Hill Baptist Church. She had an innate love and passion for children and decided to convert her home into a home-care center for any child who entered. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and a faithful wife.

Survivors include her husband, Reginald Taylor of the home; two children, WauKeisha and Reginald Lorenzo Taylor, both of the home; her mother, Laura Grant of Rembert; mother-in-law, Annie Brown of New York; two sisters, Rochell Middleton-Hill (Andrew) of Columbia and Carrie Johnson (David) of Sumter; four brothers, Deacon Harvin G. Grant Jr. (Gladys) of Rembert, Deacon Earl Grant (Gloria) of Austin, Texas, Ronald Grant (Joan) of Rembert and Roderick Grant (Charlene) of Dalzell; two adopted sisters, Ruth Martin and Naomi Grant; two adopted brothers, Ted James and Charles James; four sisters-in-law, Juanita Davis of New York, Mary Murray (Patrick) of North Carolina, Carolyn Taylor of Georgia and Cynthia Taylor (Eric) of Georgia; two brothers-in-law, Kevin Taylor of New York and Jimmy Brown Jr. of New York; aunts and uncles, Bertha Alston, Carrie Wright, Wilhelmenia Lee (Frank), Mary Singleton (Earl), Minister Dorothy Floyd, Mattie English (Richard), Hattie Sanders (Harold), Annie Lee McCall, Azalee McCall, Elder Clarence McCall (Alethia), Elder Jerry McCall (Elizabeth), Herbert McCall (Frances), Olin McCall (Elaine), Ruby Grant Deschamps; great-uncles and aunts, Henry Grant, Lewis Grant, Hattie Grant and Louise Grant Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Grant Hill Baptist Church, Rembert, with Pastor Roosevelt L. Williams officiating, assisted by Dr. D.L. Grant, Ministers Anthony Weeks, Minnie Dennis, Dorothy Floyd and Melvin Sapp.

Burial will be in Grant Hill cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 4620 Borden Road, Rembert, SC 29128.

DEBORAH ANN CHARLES

MANNING -- Deborah Ann Charles, 46, died Feb. 28, 2005, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born May 17, 1958, in Manning, she was a daughter of Lila Samuels Charles and the late Vance "Buster" Charles. She was a 1976 graduate of Manning High School and attended Williamsburg Technical College. In her youth, she joined Biggers AME Church, where she sang on the mass choir. She was employed with Clarendon County as a correctional officer in the Clarendon County Detention Center. She was a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

Survivors besides her mother, Lila Mae Charles of the home, include one son, Vance Charles of the home; grandmother, Maybelle Samuels of Manning; two brothers, Willie James "Sunny" (Wilma) Samuels of Philadelphia, Pa., and Tyrone Harvin of New York, N.Y.; four sisters, Carolyn (Milton) Fleming, Helen (Pastor James) Robinson, Mable Charles, all of Manning, and Mary "Jimme" Charles of Smyrna, Ga.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Biggers AME Church, Biggers community of Manning, with Pastor Andrew Jordan officiating, the Rev. Jerome McCray, presiding, assisting the Revs. Mattie Mouzon, James Hudley and W.J. Frierson.

Burial will be in Muldrow cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of her grandmother and mother, Maybelle Samuels, 1556 Sparkeman Road, Manning.

DEWEY WELLS Jr.

Dewey Wells Jr., husband of Essie Mae Stukes Wells, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Dewey Wells Sr. and Ethel Bernice Pack Wells.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1172 Billups Road, Pinewood.

Plans will be announced by Community Funeral Home of Sumter.

HENRY M. RICHARDSON

LAKE CITY -- Henry McKinley Richardson, 60, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005.

Born Jan. 4, 1945, he was a son of Maybelle Richardson and the late Henry Richardson. He was a 1965 graduate of Carver High School. He was retired from Hackensack Royal Glass Co. of New Jersey.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Singletary of Charlotte, N.C., and Myron Bulluck of Teaneck, N.J.; three daughters, Marie Singletary of New Jersey, Christopher Hickson of Scranton and Tammie Carson of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Ben (Almeta) Rollerson of Lake Worth, Fla., and Joseph Richardson of New Jersey; five sisters, Annette Richardson of New York, Rosa (Samuel) Simmons of Columbia, Janie (David) Fulmore and Ida Burgess of Lake City, Elouise (David) Frazier of Florence; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Greater St. James AME Church, Moore Street, Lake City, with the Rev. Joseph Postell officiating.

Burial will be in Rest Lawn cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Ida Burgess, 310 Liberty Drive, Lake City, SC 29560.

Green's Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.

HOMER WEATHERLY

Graveside memorial services for Homer Weatherly will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Leverne Hancock officiating.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, is in charge.

JESSIE LeGRANT

Jessie LeGrant, 56, died Feb. 27, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Feb. 19, 1949, in Lee County, he was a son of Dave LeGrant Sr. and the late Flossie Kennedy LeGrant. Jessie, affectionately known as Fuzzy, attended the public schools of Lee County. He joined the King Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lynchburg, at an early age. He was employed by the Brown and Martin Construction Co.

Survivors include a dear and devoted lifelong friend of the home, Joe Ann Richardson; two daughters, Verneshia Hannible of Columbia and Jessica Hannible of Durham, N.C.; an adopted daughter, Louise Hannible; three stepchildren, Millie, Roger and John Richardson; four brothers, Dave LeGrant Jr. and LeTroy Legrant, both of Lynchburg, Curtis LeGrant of Bishopville and Russell LeGrant of Sumter; five sisters, Rosa Mae Knight, Rebecca (Major) Bradley of Bishopville, Ruth Smith of Raleigh, N.C., Thelma (Leroy) Goodman of Lynchburg and Polly (Peter) Richardson of Manhattan, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon today.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today from the King Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Michael Fullard, pastor, as eulogist. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be friends of the family.

The procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from his home, 894 David Alston Road, Wedgefield, and 12:30 p.m. from the home of his father, Dave LeGrant, 56 Gum Spring Road, Bishopville.
