JOE LOUIS FELDER

Joe Louis Felder, 66, husband of Rosetta Mellette Felder, died Feb. 27, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 5, 1938, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Mingo Smith and Rosa Bell Felder. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County. Joe Louis attended Calvary Baptist Church, Pinewood. At an early age, he became a heavy equipment operator and was employed as a skilled construction and demolition contractor for Jet Wrecking Co., Sumter.

Survivors include his wife, Rosetta Felder; five children, Larry (Abigail) Felder, Marvin Louis (Sharon) Felder, Teresa (Garye) Felder Sharper, Lutricia Francis and Jessica Polite, all of Sumter; one brother, Douglas Felder of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Jessie L. (Horace E.) Montgomery and Bernice (John) Scott Dew, both of Tampa, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 10 nieces; 13 nephews; friend, Rose Polite; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia M. Gaymon and Mazie Felder; and one brother, Allen Felder.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Parlor of Job's Mortuary, 312 S. Main St., with the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 545 S. Main St., Sumter.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

LIZZIE D. GAMBLE

Lizzie Jane Dickey Gamble, 80, widow of Nathan Gamble, died March 1, 2005, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter West.

Born July 30, 1924, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Frank Dickey and Mary Player-Dickey. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and attended Morris College, Sumter. Early in life, she joined Asbury United Methodist Church, Lynchburg. After her marriage, she united with Mt. Sinai AME Church. She moved to Baltimore, Md., in the later years of her life and joined Leadenhall Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Eddie Wilson. She served as a member of the prayer and praise team and a member of the Bible study class. After returning back to Lynchburg, she reunited with Mt. Sinai AME Church. Mrs. Gamble was a dedicated wife and loving mother who was always willing to help others.

Survivors include three children, Clara (Samuel) Reardon and Treadway (Mary Ann) Gamble, both of Lynchburg, and Robert Franklin (Virginia Dell) Gamble of Baltimore; one sister, Mary F. Hughes of Lynchburg; a son-in-law, Jerome Epps of Lynchburg; a daughter-in-law, Rosaline Gamble of Baltimore; a special and devoted niece, Deloris Eaddy Tapp of Sumter; four sisters-in-law, Easter Davis of Manhattan, N.Y., Ineatha (Edward) Graham, Minnie (Cleo) Porter of Lynchburg and Lula Thompson of Sumter; one brother-in-law, Dr. Andrew (Joyce) Gamble of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Edward and Sidney Gamble; two daughters, Jessie Gamble-Epps and Naomi Gamble; three grandchildren, Lorenzo Epps, Jerome Epps and Dewayne Epps.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Sinai AME Church, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Moses McCants, pastor, officiating, assisted by Dr. Andrew Gamble.

Burial will be in Edwards cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Clara Reardon, 8515 Fullard St., Lynchburg, SC 29080.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

MARY H. FERRELL

Mary Huggins Ferrell, 91, widow of Sam Ferrell, died March 1, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 30, 1913, in Silver, she was a daughter of the late Mose Huggins and Mary Belson Huggins. Mrs. Ferrell received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. Early in life, she joined Trinity Baptist Church. During her adult years, she became a member of Jehovah Baptist Church, under the late Rev. B.F. Weston. In her golden years, she rejoined Trinity Baptist Church. Her personality always reflected her joy for the Lord, and love for family and friends. She retired as a professional presser at Johnson's Cleaners, Sumter.

Survivors include a daughter, Thelma Huggins Johnson of the home; two sons, Samuel (Veronica) Ferrell of Bronx, N.Y., and Bennell (Denise) Felder of Queens, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Lanie Cokely of Bronx and Lettie Rand of Queens; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; two nieces; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two children, James L. Ferrell and Lucille "Mama Lucy" Ferrell Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mark Baptist Church cemetery, Silver.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Thelma H. Johnson, 553 S. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM SALISBURY Jr.

Graveside service for William L. Salisbury Jr., 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia.

Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia, is in charge.

Mr. Salisbury died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late William L. and Jimmie Sue Salisbury. An Army veteran of World War II, he was employed by the S.C. Department of Highways and Public Transportation for more than three decades. He began his career as a rodman and achieved positions of higher and higher responsibility, ultimately being promoted to Sumter County Resident Construction Engineer.

Upon his retirement, being that no citizen of Sumter County was more highly respected by his colleagues and fellow citizens, the S.C. General Assembly passed a resolution recognizing his outstanding accomplishments and contributions.

Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Robert R. and Frances P. Salisbury of Columbia; niece, Lynn S. Salisbury and her husband, Alan Groleau; nephew, Robert L. Salisbury; and great-niece, Melissa F. Groleau.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sue S. Campbell, and his brother, Frank P. Salisbury.

PHYLLIS G. WHITE

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Phyllis Grace White, age 73, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Good Samaritan Home in Belington, W.Va.

Mrs. White was born in Mayberry Township, Ill., the daughter of the late Thomas Jasper Allen and Abigaile Hayes Allen.

Survivors are one son, David Lee Jones and his wife, Sheri, of Washington; one daughter, Kim Li Jones and her husband, Kendal, of Sumter; a brother, Darrel Ray Allen of West Virginia; and six grandchildren.

Services will be private.

LEON P. KYZER

LEESVILLE -- Leon Paul Kyzer, 90, of Leesville, died Friday, March 4, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Boiling Springs United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Toth officiating.

Mr. Kyzer was born in Leesville to the late Paul F. and Lilla Ricard Kyzer. He was a life member of Boiling Springs United Methodist Church. He was a farmer.

Surviving are his sister, Ruby Hornsby Brown of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials can be made to Boiling Springs United Methodist Church, 2373 Calks Ferry Road, Lexington, SC 29073.

CATHERINE MOURITZEN

Catherine Mouritzen, 86, widow of Robert Mouritzen, died Friday, March 4, 2005, in Lake City.

Services will be announced by the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter.

MAVENIA T. SPRIGGS

BISHOPVILLE -- Mavenia Thomas Spriggs died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church in Bishopville.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1818 Lucknow Highway, Bishopville.

Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

COY K. GRAY

Coy K. Gray, 72, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at a local nursing home.

Surviving are a sister, Wanda McKinney of Culman, Ala., four children and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be at noon Monday at the Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Joe Peek officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

LOTTIE G. BRADHAM

Lottie Gardner Bradham, 96, widow of Clinch Heyward Bradham, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Robert N. Gardner and the late Edna Hodge Gardner.

Mrs. Bradham was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Kenneth E. Gardner of Sumter and his wife, Doris.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert L. Gardner and B.H. Gardner, and two sisters, Martha Gardner Saunders and Lila Gardner Luton.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 226 W. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.

JOHN SIMMONS

John Simmons, 53, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County on July 8, 1951, he was a son of the late Frank and Elouise Conyers Simmons. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and Square Deal Technical School. He was employed by the Young's Corporation, First Nazarene Church, Wilk's Tree Service and Carolina Golden Products.

Survivors are a daughter, Denise (Fredrick) Benjamin of Sumter; six sisters, Christine (Johnny) Cooke of Jamaica, N.Y., Tiesta (John) Clarkson of Macomb, Mich., Debra (John) Wallace of Jacksonville, Fla., Runnette (Fitz Gerald) Collins, of Monks Corner, S.C., and Jeanette Simmons and Johnny Mae White, both of Sumter; a brother, Cleveland Simmons of Sumter; four grandchildren, Michael Burgess Jr., Santana Burgess, E'Setua Benjamin and Sha'uri Benjamin, all of Sumter, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Johnnie Lee Simmons, a sister, Marline Simmons and step-mother, Corine White Simmons.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 14 Brand St., with the pastor, the Rev. L.W. Barnes, officiating, assisted by Pastor Joann Murrill, and Minister Al McKenny.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 55 Frazier St.

Scriven Funeral Home, 230 Lafayette Drive, is in charge of arrangements.
