HATTIE B. McFADDEN

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Hattie Brayboy McFadden, 63, widow of Sammie McFadden, died Dec. 22, 2008, at Cape Fear Health System, Fayetteville.

Born Aug. 9, 1945, in New Zion, she was a daughter of the late Melvin Sr. and Rensie Davis Brayboy.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 825 Nevada Court, Sumter.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

LELLA T. SUTTON

Lella Eaddy Taylor Sutton, age 94, widow of Thomas Howey Sutton, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at her home.

Mrs. Sutton was born in Conway, a daughter of the late James Walter Taylor and Sarah Gasque Eaddy Taylor. She graduated from Conway High School and Draughn's Business College. She also attended Winthrop College. Even though she lived in many different locations, she maintained lifelong friends in her hometown of Conway. In Conway, she worked in banking and in the legal field. She was "Miss Conway" and enjoyed representing the city at many festivals, parades and events. Making friends was one of Mrs. Sutton's greatest gifts. In Charleston, she had a special group of friends from her bridge club.

During World War II, she lived in Sumter and assisted with the war effort. She worked at the South Carolina Employment Office and developed a large network of loving friends. After marrying Thomas Sutton of Fayetteville, N.C., the couple moved to Bamberg and started a family. In Bamberg, she continued her career in the banking industry and assisted her husband in the management of their dairy farm. While living in Bamberg, Mrs. Sutton enjoyed all her friends at the bank, in her bridge club, and at Christ Episcopal Church in Denmark. In 1989, Mrs. Sutton moved to Sumter, where she gave loving support to her son, daughter and daughter's family.

Survivors are a son, Taylor C. Sutton of Sumter; a daughter, Catherine Sutton Blumberg and her husband, Bruce, of Sumter; two sisters, Carolyn Taylor Bailey of Wilmington, N.C., and Elizabeth Taylor Cox of Columbia; two grandchildren, Caroline Eaddy Blumberg and Christine Leslie Blumberg; and a special friend, Norma Dukes of Bamberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters, Blanch Taylor McWhite, Edna Taylor Ehrhardt, Ruth Taylor Lewis, Dorothy Taylor Williamson and Hazel Gasque Taylor; and two brothers, James Walter Taylor and Jack Vernon Taylor.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hamilton Smith officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church cemetery with the Rev. Mark Riggs officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter.

Memorials may be made to the Hopewell Presbyterian Church cemetery Fund, 5314 Old River Road, Florence, SC 29505; the Christ Episcopal Church, 5266 Carolina Highway, Denmark, SC 29042; York Place, 234 Kings Mtn St., York, SC, 29745; or to the Recovering Sight Foundation, C/O Church of the Holy Comforter, P.O. Box 338, Sumter, SC 29151.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter for the arrangements.

ANNA TRAPP

BISHOPVILLE -- Anna Bradley Trapp, daughter of the late Wilson Sr. and Florine Bradley, was born in Lee County on Aug. 3, 1912. She died Dec. 19, 2008, at McCoy Nursing Center.

She attended Lee County public schools. Anna was married to the late Isaac Trapp Sr. They raised eight children, two preceded her in death. Anna joined New Zion AME Church at a very young age. She served on several auxiliaries. She was president of the missionary board, stewardess board, sang on the senior choir, and was also class leader number three.

She is survived by her children, Ada T. Toney of Lynchburg, Wayne (Victoria) Trapp of Greenville, Isaac (Edna) Trapp and Ernest (Cleo) Trapp, both of Paterson, N.J., William Trapp of Bishopville, Wilson (Jean) Trap of Hopkinsville, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at New Zion AME Church with the Rev. Archie S. Temoney Sr., pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in New Zion Memorial Gardens, directed by Boatwright Funeral Home.

The family conveys a special thank you to Patricia Beyel, the staff, nurses and CNA's of McCoy Nursing Home for the care and attention given to Mrs. Trapp.

Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

MARY LEE S. POMPEY

MANNING -- Mary Lee Simon Pompey, 81, widow of Edward Pompey, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born Sept. 7, 1927, in the Greeleyville section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late George and Annie Dixon Simon. She was a graduate of Williamsburg Training School, Greeleyville. She accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Pine Grove AME Church, where she was a faithful member, serving on the stewardess board, missionary society and senior choir. She was also a member of the Pride of Forreston Order.

Survivors are five sons, Melvin Pompey of the home, Cleveland (Ruth) Pompey of Philadelphia, Richard (Ida) Pompey, Edward Pompey Jr. and Emanuel (Jackie) Pompey, all of Greeleyville; a daughter, Martina (Franklin) Holmes of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Alfreta Rhodes and Allene Gamble, both of Troy, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Grove AME Church, Old River Road, Greeleyville, with the Rev.Moses J. Wilson, pastor, officiating, assisting the Rev. Elousie Pompey, the Rev. Harry Robinson Sr., and the Rev. Lucille. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1659 Pompeytown Road, Greeleyville.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

BERNIE McDONALD

Mr. Bennie McDonald of Elliott, entered eternal rest on Dec. 24, 2008.

Arrangements are incomplete but will be announced by Wilson's Funeral Home, 403 S. Main Street, Bishopville.

BARBARA B. SIMMONS

CHARLESTON -- Barbara Brogdon Simmons, 49, wife of Thomas Simmons, died Dec. 24, 2008, at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.

Born Dec. 3, 1959, in Florence, she was a daughter of Willie O. Brogdon and Fannie Brand Brogdon.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1043 Mickey St., Turbeville.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

CAROL J. HILL

SANTEE – Carol Jane Hill, 78, wife of Raymond Hill, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Ascension Hospice House in Irmo.

Arrangements will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home & Crematory in Manning.

ALFRED D. CAMERON

MANNING – Alfred Douglas Cameron Sr., 66, husband of Deanna Sweet Cameron, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born May 2, 1942, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of Edward and Hazel Wright Cameron. He was retired from General Motors after 31 years.

Surviving are his wife of Manning; daughters, Shelly Lynn Cameron of Manning and Sheila Lee Saxton of New Castle, Del.; two sons, Alfred Douglas Cameron Jr. and his wife Nancy of New Castle, Del., and Howard Christopher Cameron and his wife Paula of New Castle, Del.; two brothers, Edward J. Cameron of Oceanside, Calif., and James Cameron of New Castle, Del.; three sisters, Barbara Breese of Ft. Myers, Fla., Mary Martin of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Patricia Breese of San Diego, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1247 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo SC 29063.

CLYDE F. GREEN Jr.

Clyde Franklin Green Jr., died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born Sept. 18, 1975, in Manning, he was a son of Clyde Franklin Green Sr. and Carrie Bennett Green

Family will be recieving friends at the home of the parents, 629 Woodside Drive, Manning.

JOHN COARD

PINEWOOD -- Mr. John Coard, 63, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 at his home in Pinewood.

Born on June 5, 1945, in the "Panola Community" of Pinewood, he was a son of Frances Coard and the late Wilhemina Junious Coard.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his father, Mr. Frances Coard, 1125 Gaymon Road, "Panola Community", Pinewood.

ULYSSES STEPHENS

Ulysses "Bluebird" Stephens, 77, husband of Maggie Dickerson Stephens, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Rimini on March 5, 1931, son of the late Willie Nelson and Adra Gibson White. He was reared by the late Isaac and Daisy Stephens.

Mr. Stephens was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age he accepted Christ and became a member of St. Phillips RMUE Church, Rimini, where he served faithfully. He was self employed as a mechanic.

Mr. Stephens was first married to the late Lillie Mae Adams Stephens. This union was blessed with one son.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his beloved wife, Maggie D. Stephens of the home; two sons, Willie L. Stephens and Ulysses Stephens Jr., both of Baltimore; three daughters, Maggie Chenise (Lawrence) Stephens of Baltimore, Sherron Cynthia Blanding of Manning and Susie (Howard) Nelson of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Bill (Ruth) Stephens of Baltimore and Raymond (Janice) White of New York; five sisters, Mozelle Pegues, Susan James, Odessa Centeno, Daisy White and Ada Evans, all of New York, three siblings he reared with Fannie Belle Stephens of New York, Julius Stephens of Buffalo, N.Y. and Susan Dow of Rimini; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one aunt, Rose L. Shannon of Wilmington, N.C.; three sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas White, and one sister, Rose Mae White.

Viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, at St. Phillips RMUE Church, Rimini, with the Rev. W.G. Hatcher officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jacob Clark, the Rev. Jack Dais Jr. and Dr. James Graham. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, for viewing until the hour of service.

The family will receive friends at the home, 25 Walker Ave., Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

JIMMIE PARROTT Jr.

LYNCHBURG -- Funeral services for Jimmie Parrott Jr. will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington with the Rev. Dr. E.B. Burroughs, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Cherry Grove cemetery, directed by Jefferson Funeral Home of Lynchburg.

Mr. Parrott, son of the late Jimmie Sr. and Victoria Parrott, was born in Lynchburg, and attended the public schools of Lee County. He was a licensed cement finisher, having worked in Germany and Washington, D.C. After his retirement, he relocated to Darlington.

He is survived by four children; seven sisters; one brother; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his companion; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Wilhmena; one brother; and two grandsons.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 420 Opal St., Darlington.

Jefferson Funeral Home of Lynchburg is in charge of arrangements.

ALLEN B. ROBERSON

Burnell Roberson, 84, died Dec. 24, 2008, after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 115 W. Church St., Bishopville, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, at Hancock Elmore Hill Funeral Home.

Born in New Zion, he was the son of the late Susie Mae and Martin Roberson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eris Floyd Roberson.

Mr. Roberson served in the Navy, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina and was a prominent businessman and owner of McLeod's Pharmacy in Bishopville.

He was a lifetime member of the South Carolina Pharmaceutical Association and was a practicing pharmacist for 50 years.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and John Lingard of Virginia Beach, Va.; his daughter, Judie R. Blyth, and grandson, Dylan Blyth, of Lexington; his son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Pixie Roberson; his grandson, Michael Roberson; and his granddaughter, Kelsey Roberson, of Lexington; his brother, Bobby Roberson, of Bishopville, and his loving companion, Mary Barber, of Columbia.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice Services at 3300 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, SC 29169.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.
