Paul Marion Halstead - January 24th, 2010

MANNING – Paul Marion Halstead, 71, husband of Shirley McCullum Halstead, died Sunday, January 24, 2010, at his home.

Born May 23, 1938, in Foster, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Marion and Flora Godbey Halstead. He was retired from the City of Cayce, and was a member of Manning Church of Christ.

Surviving in addition to his wife of Manning are a daughter, Karyn Giles and husband David of Lexington; two sons, Tommy Joe Halstead and wife Darlene of Gaston, and Kenneth Halstead and wife Pamela of Alcolu; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Manning Church of Christ, with the Rev. Halbert Tucker officiating.

Memorials may be made to Manning Church of Christ, 311 E. Keitt Street, Manning, SC 29102-3428.

Lettie Duke Johnson - January 27th, 2010

MANNING – Lettie Duke Johnson, 89, widow of John Kimbrough Johnson, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, in Lake Marion Nursing Facility.

Born December 4, 1920, in New Zion, she was the daughter of the late Davis Pressley and Teresa Evans Duke. She was retired from Tomlinson Food Store, and a member of Manning First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Scott Laverne “Pete” Duke and wife Dean of Manning; a sister-in-law, Blanche Duke of Manning; brother-in-law, Clyde A. Wilkes Jr. of Manning; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleborn Earold Duke Sr. and David William Duke Sr.; and a sister, Jannie Lee Wilkes.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Jerry Cottone officiating. Burial was in Manning cemetery. Pallbearers were Clyde Alexander Wilkes III, Cleborn Earold Duke Jr., David Joseph Duke, Davis William Duke Jr., Scott Laverne Duke Jr., and Cecil Bozard Eaddy Jr.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 49 W. Boyce Street, Manning, SC 29102, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Theodore A. Jones - February 3rd, 2010

MANNING, SC – Theodore A. “Ted” Jones Jr., 85, husband of Debra Gosselin Jones, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Palmetto Heart Health Hospital in Columbia.

Born May 3, 1924, in Malden, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Theodore A. and Belle Hansen Jones Sr. He was a retired machinist and security guard, a United States Navy veteran of WWII, a member of Viet Nam Veterans of America, the National Rifle Association, and the Hopedale Pistol and Rifle Club of Massachusetts, and was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of Manning, are two sons, Theodore Michael Jones of California, and Steven Jones of Manning; a daughter, Marlaina Alker of Manning; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marie Gosselin of Massachusetts; a nephew, Raymond Moulton of Massachusetts; adopted son and caregiver, Warren Pillsbury of Manning; and precious baby, Pixie Boo.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. William Kevin Cribb officiating.

Interment was at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010, in the Florence National cemetery, Florence, SC

Frank Ronald Moody, Jr. - January 21st, 2010

RALEIGH, NC – Frank Ronald “Ron” Moody, Jr., 55, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at his home.

Born July 11, 1954, in Manning, he was the son of Patsy Jayroe Moody Tedder and the late Frank Ronald Moody, Sr. He was a United States Air Force veteran, retired from American Airlines, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and stepfather, Henry G. Tedder, of Summerton, are a daughter, Robin Wilson (Ron) of Taylors, SC; twin sons, Christopher Lee Moody (Jennifer) of Kannapolis, NC, and Jason Patrick Moody of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Deborah Hinkle of Florence; a granddaughter, Carolina Wilson; and a grandson, Logan Moody.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Bob Ashba officiating. Burial was private.

Kathleen Nettles - February 13th, 2010

MANNING – Kathleen Nettles, 74, widow of David Nettles, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born May 19, 1935, in Turbeville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Bessie Beard Welch. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church in New Zion.

Surviving are four daughters, Connie Disher and Joan Stamm of Greeleyville, Jean Lovelace and husband James Jr. of Sumter, and Marie Euten and husband Johnny of Lynchburg; a son, Eric Nettles of Manning; a sister, Bernice Welch and husband Ernest of Gable; two brothers, Beasley Welch and wife Jackie of Alcolu, and Alfonza Welch of Sumter; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Nona Evans Reaves - January 20th, 2010

TURBEVILLE – Mrs. Nona Evans Reaves, 85, widow of George W. Reaves, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.

Born July 2, 1924, in Mayesville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ellison Lafayette and Hattie Eugenia Hodge Evans. She was a retired inspector and seamstress from Manning Manufacturing Company, a United States Army veteran, and a member of Turbeville Southern Methodist Church and the Marion Gamble Missions Circle.

Surviving are a sister, Felicia Rutter of Lynchburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers; a sister; and special niece, Brenda Godwin.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Crowe officiating. Burial was in Brewington Presbyterian Church cemetery near Manning.

Pallbearers were Stephen Evans, Robert Evans, Patrick Kelly, James Godwin, Matthew Godwin, and Brant Lane.

Memorials may be made to Turbeville Southern Methodist Church Youth Ministry, 1642 Main Street, Turbeville, SC 29162.

Kenneth Phillip Reinhart - January 31st, 2010

MANNING – Kenneth Phillip Reinhart, 55, husband of Cindy Etherton Reinhart, died Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

Born October 21, 1954, in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Ruth Miller Reinhart and the late Kenneth Pinola Reinhart. He was a retired truckdriver, and was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of Manning and his mother of Amsterdam, NY, are three daughters, Brandy Eldred of Herkimer, NY, Melissa Knoblauch of Herkimer, NY, and Sheree Reinhart of Ilion, NY; a son, Brandon Reinhart of Manning; a brother, Allen Reinhart of Mayfield, NY; four sisters, Lorraine Corapi of Madison, Wisconsin, Christine VanDeBogart of Galway, NY, Erna Selby of New Glarus, Wisconsin, and Robin Foland of Fonda, NY; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Herman Marion Ridgill, Jr. - January 26th, 2010

MANNING – Herman Marion Ridgill, Jr., 62, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at Heartland Health Care Center in Hanahan.

Born December 24, 1947, in Sumter, he was the son of Mary Ellen Matthews Ridgill and the late Herman M. Ridgill, Sr. He was employed by Days Inn, and was a member of Manning First Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his mother of Manning, are two sisters, Camille Hiott of Manning, and Ann Black and her husband Michael J. of Moncks Corner; a brother, Father Michael Earl Ridgill and his wife Devvy of Hartsville; two nieces; and four nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Jerry Cottone officiating. Burial was in Manning cemetery.

Pallbearers were nephews, Joey Black, Berry Hiott, Robert Black, and Albert Ridgill, and cousins, Ricky Ridgill and David Richburg.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 49 W. Boyce Street, Manning, SC 29102 or to Heartland Health Care Center, 1800 Eagle Landing Blvd., Hanahan, SC 29410-8517.

Edgar Burdell Thompson - February 1st, 2010

MANNING – Edgar Birdell "Ed" Thompson, 85, husband of Jean Herrin Thompson, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2010 in Colleton County Hospital in Walterboro.

Born October 3, 1924, in Birmingham, Alabama, he was the son of the late Leslie B and Pearl Morris Thompson. He was a graduate of Auburn University; employed by Bell South Telephone Company for thirty-five years, having retired in December of 1983; served in the Merchant Marine Cadet Corps, 2nd Lieutenant; Corps of Engineers, Army of the United States; entry into Merchant Marines August 1, 1944; initial entry into active service in the United States Army June 15, 1946; Reserve Commissioned Officer in the Army of the United States; recipient of the WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

He was active in many community organizations and clubs, to include Civitan, Lions Club (where he served as past President in Santee), Rotary Club, and President of the Chamber of Commerce Flo., 1973. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Manning.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of Manning, are three daughters, Katherine L. Thompson of Columbia, Rebecca L. Haynes of Florence, and Amanda F. Singleton of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Haynes of Columbia, and Lauren Haynes of Florence; a stepson, John W. Keitt III of Pickens; five step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Morris Thompson of Birmingham, AL.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Jerry Cottone and the Rev. Debra Quilling-Smith officiating. Burial was in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Gary Martin, Johnny Odom, L. W. “Dub” Taylor, Dr. H. P. “Mutt” Bozard, Artie Felder and Bobby Wilder. Honorary pallbearers were P. T. Bradham Sunday School Class of Manning First Baptist Church, and the Manning Rotary Club.

Memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 217 Dozier Blvd, Suite 201, Florence, South Carolina 29501, or to Alzheimers Association, SC Chapter, 2999 Sunset Blvd., Suite 102, West Columbia, SC 29169-3496, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Betty Guess Timmons - February 23rd, 2010

SUMMERTON – Betty Guess Timmons, 76, beloved wife of F. Dewey Timmons, Sr. died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

Born August 18, 1933, in Greeleyville, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Olin Guess Sr. and the late Ruby Louise Guess. She was retired office manager at Palmetto Pigeon Plant in Sumter, and was a member of Santee Baptist Church, Manning.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of Summerton, are a daughter, Betsy McCray and husband David of Mocksville, NC; two sons, F. Dewey “Tim” Timmons Jr. and wife Becky of Columbia, and Karl Timmons and wife Dee Alice of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Jason McCray, Amy Stokes, Todd, Jonathan, Stuart, Tyler and Austin Timmons; and two great grandchildren, Blake Stokes and Emma McCray.

She was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Couture; and a brother, Roy Guess Jr.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Eldreth officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park in Sumter.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205-1358.

Shelby Don White - February 4th, 2010

COWARD – Shelby Don White, 60, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born December 6, 1949, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Samuel Dewey and Bertha Ethel Ridgeway White. He was a welder, a United States Army veteran of the Viet Nam War, a member of Turbeville First Baptist Church, and attended Bible Outreach in Lake City.

Surviving are a son, Shelby Don White Jr. of Cassatt; two daughters, Tina White Powell of Coward, and Jennifer Howell and her husband Jason of Lake City; five grandchildren, Alexis and Zechariah Howell, John Powell, Amber Carraway, and Jessica Grady; two brothers, Julius C. White and his wife Martha of Greeleyville, and Harry E. White and his wife Joan of Prattville, AL; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends of Powell’s Grocery.

He was predeceased by three sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010, at Bible Outreach in Lake City, with the Rev. Gene McAllister and the Rev. Andy Kinder officiating.

Adan A. Yzaguirre, Sr. - January 3rd, 2010

SUMTER – Adan A. Yzaguirre Sr., 60, husband of Francisca Aurelia Urbina Yzaguirre, died Sunday, January 3, 2010, in Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

Born July 23, 1949, in Cameron County, Texas, he was the son of the late Loreto and Catarina Garcia Yzaguirre. He was a labor Foreman, and was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of Sumter, are a son, Adan A. Yzaguirre Jr. of Sumter; two daughters, Sonya (Pedro) Del Rio of Manning and Cynthia (Francisco) Gonzalez of Sumter; three brothers Apolinar Yzaguirre (Christina) of Texas, Loreto Yzaguirre of Florida, and Jose Yzaguirre of Iowa; three sisters, Aurora Urbina (Angel), Guadalupe Urbina (Ernesto), and Eva Garcia, all of Texas; and eight grandchildren, Brandy and Peter Del Rio, Brianna, Nikki, Catarina and Frank Gonzalez, Percy and Shelly Yzaguirre.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Father Charles Donovan officiating. Burial was in St. Lawrence cemetery in Sumter. Pallbearers were Pedro Del Rio, Francisco Gonzalez, Francisco Ysasi, Robert Roseboom, Juan Urbina, and Rhett Briggs.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia SC 29210.
