Calvin Eaddy - July 2nd, 2010

MANNING – Calvin Eaddy, 65, died Friday, July 2, 2010, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born June 20, 1945, in Hemingway, SC, he was the son of the late General Wildon Eaddy and the late Mary Brooks Eaddy. He resided at Vanguard Residential Services, and was an active member of the Seniors Class of the DSN Day Program. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Johnsonville, SC.

He is survived by two brothers, Brooks Eaddy of Gastonia, NC and John Lafon Eady of Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services are private.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Highway 51, Johnsonville, SC 29555.

Gary Dean Reinhart - July 2nd, 2010

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Gary Dean Reinhart, 74, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010, at home. He was born in Neosho, Missouri and had resided in Newport News for the past thirty-two years.

Mr. Reinhart retired from Allied Signal as Group Director of Material in 1987 after thirty years of service. He later retired from Flight International as Vice President of Administration in 1998 with ten years of service.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War.

Mr. Reinhart was preceded in death by his daughter, Dana Leigh Reinhart, in 1977. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Mims Reinhart, formerly of Manning; a son, Gary Dean Reinhart, Jr., of Newport News; two daughters, Donna Reinhart, also of Newport News, and Deana Sharland and husband, Joe, of Vero Beach, Fla; two grandchildren, Brandon Leigh Sharland of Ala., and Ryan Thomas Sharland, of Vero Beach, Fla.; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Leigh Sharland, also of Alabama.

A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2010, in Manning cemetery, with the Rev. Paul A. Hutchison officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the National Marrow Donor Program, 3001 Broadway St. NE, Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN 55413-1753.

Channing Stephen Watford - June 26th, 2010

FLORENCE – Channing Stephen Watford, infant son of Joshua Stephen Watford and Ravin L. Kennedy, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at McLeod Hospital in Florence.

Channing was born on June 19, 2010, at McLeod Hospital.

Survivors, in addition to his parents of Florence, are maternal grandmother, Deanna Daves; maternal grandfather, Paul Kennedy and his wife Brenda; great grandmother, Diane Dorsey; and aunt, Kenly Daves; paternal grandparents, Stephen and Shellie Watford; great grandparents, Terry & Betty Isgett; great grandmother, Amanda Michaux; aunts, Katie Watford and Chasity Foster; and uncle, Tyler Watford.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2010, in the Florence Memorial Gardens Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Crooks officiating.

Larry Elvin Gibbons - June 23rd, 2010

MANNING – Larry Elvin Gibbons Sr., 80, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at his home.

Born October 27, 1929, in Turbeville, he was the son of the late Reuben Blease and Annie Rae Dennis Gibbons. At birth he was adopted by his grandparents, the late Effie and Charlie Gibbons. He was a graduate of East Clarendon High School. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Turbeville. Throughout his life he had numerous careers, to include for the past 20 to 25 years being owner and operator of several restaurants in the area, Hancock’s of Kingstree, The Manning Restaurant, and most recently for the past eighteen years, the Chat-N-Chew in Turbeville. He loved Turbeville, and worked for the betterment of the community. He diligently served on the Turbeville Town Council from 1990 to 2006. He was an avid supporter of our local law enforcement. He was formerly married to the late Helen Morris Gibbons.

Survivors include his daughter, Angie Gibbons of Manning; four sisters, Bobbie Jean Strange of Columbia, Myrna Griggs of Hartsville, Lois Ann Hardy of Alcolu, and Elvera McCue of Kingsport, Tennessee; a brother, Denny Gibbons of Columbia; former daughter-in-law, Christi Breithaupt; three grandchildren, Chelsi, Madison, and Colby Gibbons; a great granddaughter, Lilah Claire Barnes of Dallas, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Elvin “Chuck” Gibbons Jr.; and a grandson, Chuckie Gibbons.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26th, 2010, in the Turbeville First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Murray Gibbons, Pat Goodwin and Billy Griffith officiating.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Kate Smith and her staff, as well as Winyah Community Hospice of Sumter. A very special thank you to an angel of a nurse, BeeBe Coker, Brenda Young and Rev. Billy Griffin. They cared for Daddy as if he were their own.

Alvilder Singletary Robinson - June 22nd, 2010

SUMMERTON - Alvilder Singletary "Biddie" Robinson, 88, widow of Harold Richard Robinson, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born October 11, 1921, in the Sandy Ridge Community of Berkeley County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence E. Singletary and Flora Lee Myers Singletary. She was a member of Summerton United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Helen Bass of Summerton; a son, Harold M. Robinson and wife, Edna, of Summerton; a brother, Everett Singletary and wife, Christine,
of Hollywood; two sisters, Hazel S. Rast and husband, Milton, and Valerie Gleason, all of Charleston; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Wayne Robinson.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. Bob Allen and Randy Bowers officiating. Burial was in the Summerton Evergreen cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ron Smithwick, Ron Dodson, Ron Cox, Lee Robinson, Freddie Mitchum, and Chris Mitchum.

Brian R. Beck - June 21st, 2010

MANNING - Brian Ronald Beck, 77, widower of Diane Marie Beck, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at his home.

Born October 17, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late William Martin and Bootsie Burns Beck. He was a U. S. Army Paratrooper, and a retired construction salesman.

Thomas Lloyd Peterson - June 17th, 2010

MANNING - Thomas Lloyd Peterson, 58, husband of Carol Barden Peterson, died at his home on Thursday, June 17, 2010.

Born in Racine, WI, he was the son of the late Glenn R. and Norma E. Wise Peterson. He was a United State Army veteran, employed by the Public Works Department in Sumter, and a member of Manning United Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of Manning, are a stepson, Dr. James V. Green and his wife Jamesia of Bowie, Maryland.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010, in Manning United Methodist Church, with Rev. Edward L. Sanders officiating, followed by a visitation in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Animal Shelter of Clarendon County, 5079 Alex Harvin Hwy., Manning, SC 29102.

Frances Horton Elliott - June 15th, 2010

AIKEN – Frances Horton Elliott, estimable wife, mother and daughter, formerly of Summerton, died after a long illness at Mattie C. Hall in Aiken on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Born on December 7, 1942, in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late William Everett and Edna Chewning Horton of Davis Station.

Mrs. Elliott attended Palmer Business School in Columbia. She spent some of her happiest days at Schofield Middle School in Aiken, where she served as a guidance and summer school secretary. Everywhere, she was admired and beloved; and she was known especially for her endearing sense of humor, genuine love of people and uniform kindness. Before her sickness prevented her from attending, she was a member of the Summerton Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Elliott is survived by her husband, Joseph Cantey Elliott Sr. of Aiken; her daughter, Dr. Julia Elizabeth Elliott and her husband Steve Dennis of Cayce; her twin sons and their wives, Joseph Cantey Elliott Jr. and Laura Jacobs Elliott of Augusta, GA, and William Roderick Elliott and his wife Beth Simons Elliott of Austin, TX; her youngest son, Robert Anderson Elliott of Aiken; one grandson, Reuben Oliver Elliott of Austin, TX; her brother, William Everett Horton Jr. and his wife Pauline of Manning; her sister, Joan Byrdic of Rock Hill; a nephew and two nieces.

Honoring her wishes, funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010, in the Summerton Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Garland Hart officiating. Burial was in Summerton Evergreen cemetery.

Pallbearers were Miles Elliott, Tiege Elliott, Bobby Fleming, Robbie Elmore, Frankie Byrdic, and Robert Brunson.

For the many kindnesses and attentive care from the staff at Mattie C. Hall, the family of Mrs. Elliott wishes to extend its sincere thanks.

Robert Lee Kocher Sr. - June 13th, 2010

ELLOREE - Robert Lee Kocher Sr., 76, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at his residence in Elloree.

Born March 22, 1934, in Terra Haute, IN, he was the son of the late Bernard and Lola Taylor Kocher. He was a retired graphics artist, and an author. He has written poetry, screenplays and fictional writings.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Lee Kocher Jr. of Laurel, Maryland, and Christopher Lee Kocher of Jessup, Maryland; three daughters, Jeanne Fisher of Columbia, MD, Kathleen Ellen Flora of Frederick, Maryland, and Kimberly Ann Bolding of Scranton, PA; two stepsons, Joseph Bodecker of Waldorf, MD, and Vincent (Ben) Bodecker of Elloree, SC; eleven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Elsie Sanderson Hilton - August 14th, 2010

SUMMERTON – Elsie Sanderson Hilton, 72, wife of Robert Arthur Hilton, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.

Born May 19, 1938, in Loris, she was the daughter of the late James Lewis and Alma McQueen Sanderson. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of Summerton, are a son, Edward L. Hilton (Debra) of Belleville, Illinois; two daughters, Sharon D. Esposito (Bud) of Charleston, and Kellie M. Bell (Keith) of Neeses; a brother, Lloyd Sanderson of Summerton; two sisters, Lois Watson of Graham, NC, and Patricia Fowler of Burlington, NC; ten grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Michael Murdoch officiating. Burial was at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston.

Gracie Evelyn Burke Hinson - August 13th, 2010

ALCOLU - Gracie Evelyn Burke Hinson, 77, wife of Lewis Edward "Ed" Hinson, died Friday, August 13, 2010, at NHC of Sumter.

Born April 8, 1933, in Alcolu, she was the daughter of the late Lee Howard and Mozelle Richburg Burke. She was a member of Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother and nanny, but she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, most of all.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Tammie Richburg and her husband James of Manning, and Sandy Evans and her husband Mark of Alcolu; a son, Timothy Hinson and his wife Sonja Kay of Manning; six grandchildren, Brett Belt, Michelle Belt, April Evans Orr and her husband Andrew, Robert Hinson, Ryan Hinson, and Jason Richburg; seven sisters, Alice (George) Vining, Hazel (John) Ellis, Barbara Ann Barkley, Patsy Carraway, Linda (Steve) Broadway, Debbie Bramlette, Gail (Cleve) Lancaster; one brother, Rev. LeRoy (Linda Lee) Burke; and sister-in-law, Beverly Burke.

She was predeceased by a brother, Herman Burke; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Barkley and Terry Carraway.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday in Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu, with the Rev. Kirk Carlisle officiating. Burial was in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery in Alcolu.

Pallbearers were Brett Belt, Jason Richburg, Russ Harrelson, Jonathan Jones, Toey Lee, and Stacey McInnis.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caregivers at National Healthcare, and her Solaris Hospice nurses.

Memorials may be made to Clarendon Baptist Church Missionary Fund, P. O. Box 307, Alcolu, SC 29001.

Sara Smith Richbourg - August 13th, 2010

SUMTER - Sara Smith Richbourg, wife of G. Olin Richbourg Sr. for 63 years, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born July 8, 1924, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late William Wylie Smith and the late Olive Hamer Smith.

Sara had lived most of her life in Sumter and was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Oswego. She taught Sunday School for approximately 40 years and was active in various other church activities. Sara loved her family and her God and she put nothing before her family and God. Sara was a business lady dealing in real estate and rental property prior to health declining.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband; three children, George O. Richbourg Jr. (Nancy) of Lawrenceville, Ga., Francis "Bo" Richbourg (Barbara) of Brooks, Ga., and Janet R. Tennant of New Bern, N.C.; six grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Smith.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in the Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
