SINCERE J. ISAAC

Master Sincere Ja'Que Isaac, infant son of Kevin D. Isaac and Marketa S. McCray, passed from this life on Monday, March 2, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Richland County on Sept. 26, 2007.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Mulberry Baptist Church with Bishop Leroy T. James officiating.

He is survived by his parents, Kevin D. Isaac and Marketta S. McCray of the home, Sumter; two brothers, Nyshawn T. Dwyer and Kevin D. Isaac Jr.; three sisters, T'Naisia N. Isaac, Treasure J. Isaac, all of the home, and Keonica Isaac of Sumter; paternal grandparents, Roosevelt (Sally H.) Isaac of Dalzell and Loretta Williams (Elijah) White of Sumter; maternal grandmother, Marva D. McCray of Sumter; paternal great-grandfather, Henry L. Williams of Sumter; three aunts; three uncles; and other relatives and friends.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of these arrangements.

GREELEYVILLE -- Mary "Travis" Eaddy Hodge, 74, widow of Scott Harvin Hodge Sr., died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at her home in Greeleyville.

Born Oct. 7, 1934, in Greeleyville, she was a daughter of the late John Wilford and Senora Melvina Cox Eaddy. She was a homemaker, a retired seamstress, and member of Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church in Manning.

Surviving are four sons, Scott Harvin Hodge Jr., Tony Hodge, Donald (Diane) Hodge and Todd (Tammy) Hodge, all of Greeleyville; daughter, Polly (Jerry) Welch of Manning; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, G.R. Eaddy of Kingstree and Trise Eaddy of Greeleyville; four sisters, Margurette Tobias of Manning, Genevieve Richburg of Greeleyville, Patricia Tisdale of Kingstree and Rita Eaddy of Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. Ed Watson, Donald Duncan and Charlie Salter officiating. Burial will follow in Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 20 Cod Lane, Greeleyville.

Memorials may be made to Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church, 7965 Bloomville Road, Manning, SC 29102.

HELEN MINER GEDDINGS

PAXVILLE – Helen Miner Geddings, 100, widow of Cecil Coke Geddings Sr., died Sunday, March 1, 2009, in NHC Healthcare of Sumter.

Arrangements will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home & Crematory, 304 N. Church St., Manning, (803) 435-2179.

EDNA P. GRAHAM

Minister Edna Parker Graham, 48, wife of Willie Graham, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.

Born Sept. 10, 1960, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Susan Rembert Parker.

The family will receive friends at her home, 4065 Ollie Drive, Rembert.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

WILMA J. POPE

Wilma Jean Pope, 70, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at UniHealth PAC in Columbia.

Born in Detroit, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Hanna and Sophie Hathaway. Mrs. Pope was a U.S. Navy veteran. She retired from the federal government and was a longtime hospital volunteer.

Survivors include a son, Michael J. Pope; a daughter, Maria L. Mims (Johnny) of Sumter; six grandchildren, Kristina, Joshua, Jennifer, Jenna, Sarah and Michael Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Aaliyah and Kameron; a brother, George Hanna of California; her former husband, James L. Pope of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Mims.

JAMES DAVIS Sr.

James N. Davis Sr., of 40 Robinson St., died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by James Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

HELEN M. GEDDINGS

PAXVILLE – Helen Elizabeth Miner Geddings, 100, widow of Cecil Coke Geddings Sr., died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.

Born June 17, 1908, in Augusta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late William Rufus and Maude Emma Holley Miner. Mrs. Geddings was a graduate of McCormick High School and Winthrop College. She taught school in Edgefield County for five years, also serving as principal. She taught at Paxville Elementary School for five years and Manning Primary School for 18 years before retiring in 1971. In 2002, Mrs. Geddings was inducted into the Clarendon District 2 Education Hall of Fame. She was a member of Paxville United Methodist Church and the Ladies Missionary Society for more than 70 years.

Surviving are three sons, Cecil Coke Geddings Jr. and wife, Joann, of Augusta, Billy Geddings and wife, Frankie, of Manning and Ray Geddings and wife, Suzanne, of Greenwood; a daughter, Annie M. DuRant and husband, Robbie, of Manning; 11 grandchildren, Beth D. (Dan) Martins, Bert DuRant, Joe (Kathleen) DuRant, Lauren G. (Rick) Halvorsen, Nina G. (Frank) O'Neill, Karen G. (Steve) Parker, Tommy (Jane) Geddings, Lyndy G. (Tad) Graham, Amy G. (Chuck) Beacham, Shelly G. (Gary) Sems and Jason (Catherine) Geddings; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Pat Miner Wolfe.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Claire Murdoch and the Rev. Mickey Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Paxville cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers with the Men of Paxville United Methodist Church serving as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff and friends of NHC.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

ARVIS M. WILLIAMS

MANNING -- Arvis Marcellus "Bo-Bo" Williams, 36, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born May 16, 1972, in Hollywood, Fla., he was a son of Willie Mae Lawson and the late Stanley Williams.

The family will receive friends at the homes of his aunts, Dorothy James, 1139 Dinah Montgomery Road, Summerton, and Kara Lawson, 1080 Detwiller Road, Summerton.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Summerton Funeral Service, (803) 485-3755.

HENRY E. CHADA

Henry Edward "Hank" Chada, 90, beloved husband of the late Naomi Taylor Chada, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 11, 1918, in Chicago, a son of the late William and Carolina Kouba Chada. Mr. Chada served 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, coming to Shaw Air Force Base in 1950 and retiring as a senior master sergeant in 1974. In the early 1950s, he was assigned to Yakota Air Base, Japan, then to Korea. Additional assignments at Maxwell Air Force Base, Shaw Air Force Base again, Lowery Air Force Base and Moody Air Force Base followed. He was awarded numerous military awards including the Korean Service Medal, the Korean War Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, and the one of which he was the proudest, the Soldier's Medal, which is the highest military decoration for bravery not involving conflict with an enemy. For much of his career in the Air Force, Mr. Chada was an instructor in the Physiological Training (PT) Center, teaching aircrews about the effects of high altitude flying. In 1955, while testing and evaluating a new partial pressure suit at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, he was among several PT instructors who were the first ever to experience, in a pressurized chamber, the effects of going into space. After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Chada returned to Sumter. An ardent gardener, he was active with the Master Gardeners of Sumter County for many years, and was the first person to be awarded an honorary life membership. Mr. Chada was also a talented self-taught musician and craftsman. His stained glass panels may be found in homes and businesses throughout the country.

Surviving are a son, Bill Chada and his wife, Rosanne, of Hudsonville, Mich.; two daughters, Sharon Given and her husband, Jerry, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Ashley Lareau and her husband, Blaise, of Sumter; a sister, Dorothy Goodson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jill O'Hara and her husband, Bob, of Farmington Hills, Mich., Jeffrey Given and his wife, Yolanda, of Troy, Mich., Cory Hiles and her husband, Jim, of Leonardtown, Md., Shannan Chada of Holland, Mich., Erich Chada and his wife, Kristin, of Mattoon, Ill., Adam Lareau of Boston, Mass., and Ryan Lareau of Sumter; and six great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bullock Funeral Home.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter for the arrangements.

HELEN W. GEORGE

Helen Virginia Wallerich George, 89, widow of Charles O. George, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, (803) 775-9386.

THELMA G. TINDAL

SUMMERTON -- Thelma Georgie Tindal, 79, widow of Johnnie Tindal, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Born Sept. 25, 1929, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Eleanor Richburg Georgie. She attended the public schools of Clarendon County. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Taw Caw Missionary Baptist, where she served faithfully on the usher board and senior choir.

Survivors are four sons, Cleophes (Rhunette) Tindal and Calvin Tindal, both of Summerton, and John Franklin (Gloria) Tindal and Anthony (Sherlean) Tindal, both of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Catherine (Calvin)Goodman and Elizabeth (John) Dingle, both of Manning, two sisters, Camilla Conner of Richmond, Va., and Christine Georgie of Summerton; three brothers, Julian Georgie of Baltimore, Md., Henry (Kalethia) Georgie of Hollywood, Fla., and Alphonzia Georgie of Summerton; 16-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, 301 E. Main Ext., Summerton. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at her home, 1091 Rolling Hills Drive, Summerton.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

MARY MACK JOHNSON

Asheville, N.C. -- Mary Mack Johnson, 50, of 25-D Granada St., Asheville, entered eternal rest Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Sumter County on Dec. 26, 1958, a daughter of Silas Mack and Nora Shaw Johnson Maynor.

Funeral service will be announced by Community Funeral Home of Sumter.

JOSEPH BRAILSFORD

Joseph Brailsford, 66, husband of Irabell Carryall Brailsford, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at his residence in Sumter County.

Born Sept. 28, 1942, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Dave and Osteen Jenkins Brailsford. At an early age, he joined Joshua Baptist Church. He was educated in the public school of Sumter County. After graduating from Ebenezer High School, he met and married Irabell Carryall and they moved to Newark, N.J. While residing in New Jersey, he was employed at a local factory. Later he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to South Carolina, where he was employed at Shaw Air force Base and retired from Fort Jackson.

He leaves his memories to be cherished by: his wife, Irabell Carryall Brailsford; two sons, Raymond and Edward Joe Brailsford; daughter, Gloria Ann Brailsford, all of Sumter; three brothers, Dave (Susan) Brailsford Jr. of Dalzell, Robert (Annie) Brailsford of Wedgefield and Harry Brailsford of Sumter; four sisters, Mary Alice (Joseph) Howard of Irvington, N.J., Julia Boyd of Newark and Rosa Lee (Leroy) Sinkler and Maggie (Charlie) Bradley, both of Sumter; mother-in-law, Linnie Pack of Sumter; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Brailsford; brother, Ruben Brailsford; and sister, Lela Brailsford-Dawson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell. The Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, pastor, served as eulogist, assisted by Minister Jeanette Jenkins and the Rev. Herbert Temoney Sr.

The family will receive friends at the home of his son, Raymond Brailsford, 540 Deschamps Road, Sumter.

The funeral procession left from the home of his son at 10:20 a.m.

Floral bearers and pallbearers were family and friends.

Burial was in the Florence National cemetery, Florence.

Services directed by the staff and management of Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.
