KINGSTREE -- Marian "Marie" Virginia Felder Benbow, 95, of Lane, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Daisy and Ranie Burgess.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, 525 Broomstraw Road, Lane.

Funeral services will be announced by Henryhand Funeral Home of Kingstree.

VIRGINIA R. HELMS

Virginia Rodgers Helms, 74, wife of Billy Edward Helms Sr., died Monday, March 2, 2009, at her home.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Callie Pritchard Rodgers. Mrs. Helms was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a son, Billy "Bubba" Edward Helms Jr. and wife, Karin, of Sumter; two daughters, Patty Truett and husband, Michael, and Joye Barrs and husband, Michael, all of Sumter; five grandchildren, Michael Edward Barrs of Marion, Chance Player, Billy Helms III, Christopher Helms and Judy Lynn Truett, all of Sumter; two great-granddaughters, Brianna Nicole Helms and Aubrey Lynn Rogers of Sumter; two sisters, Mary Lou Griffith and husband, Ira, and Bessie Hodge and husband, Robert, of Sumter; three brothers, Buddy Rodgers and wife, Doris, Bobby Rodgers and wife, Doris, and Willis Rodgers, all of Sumter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Harold Greene and the Rev. Mitch Towery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Helms III, Christopher Helms, Michael Barrs, Frankie Rodgers, Robbie Rodgers and Monty Griffith.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 115 N. Sumter St., Suite 410, Sumter, SC 29150.

JESSIE WASHINGTON

Jessie Washington, husband of Shirley Wells Washington, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

Born in San Antonio, he was a son of the late Jessie and Doris Toliver Washington.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 2195 Avalon Drive.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel of Sumter.

ROHN P. SLATER

BISHOPVILLE -- Rohn P. Slater, son of the late Shannon Jr. and Mary Lou Slater, entered eternal rest on Feb. 26, 2009, at his residence.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 104 S. Heyward St., Bishopville.

Visitations will be held from noon to 5 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary with the Rev. Rodney C. James officiating. Burial will follow in Thomastown cemetery in the Browntown community of Lee County.

Wilson's Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St., Bishopville, is in charge of arrangements.

BOBBY YOUNG

Bobby Young died March 2, 2009, at his residence on East Moore Street.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of Emmitt Young and Georgia Mae Williams Young Dow.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Minnie Dicks, 190 Armstrong Blvd.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

BERTHA P. LOWERY

Bertha Peterson Lowery, widow of Eddie Lowery, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Providence Northeast Hospital, Columbia.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Hennigan and Rebecca White Peterson.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 124 McCutcheon St., Mayesville.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel of Sumter.

RUTH R. WARDER

Ruth Audrey Rasmussan Warder, 82, beloved wife of the late Leslie R. Warder, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Hopewell Healthcare Center.

Plans will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

ELNATHER S. KINGWOOD

Elnather Singleton Kingwood, 88, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Mariner Health East.

Born in the Alcolu section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Francis Singleton.

The family will receive friends at 40 Pioneer Court.

Fleming & DeLaine Funeral Home and Chapel is in charge of services.

EDNA P. GRAHAM

Minister Edna Deloris Parker Graham, 48, wife of Willie Graham, was called from labor to reward on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.

Born Sept. 10, 1960, in Dalzell, Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Ratlie Joseph and Susan Rembert Parker. Minister Graham was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and a 1978 graduate of Hillcrest High School. She was employed by Oak-Mitsui for 18 years. She was a lifetime member of Joshua Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the following organizations: senior usher board, junior usher board advisor, young adult choir, second sanctuary choir, trustee's wife, senior missionary society, assistant teacher for the Sunday school beginner's class, president of the YWA, secretary of women's empowerment, and president of the Soulfully Fit and HIV outreach ministry.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a devoted and faithful husband, Willie Graham; her three beautiful angels, Clarissa Dovyne Parker of Orangeburg, Tiffany Nichole Givens of Columbia and Ashley Regynette Givens of Rembert; a stepdaughter, Kindra Roseann Graham of Neptune, N.J.; three brothers, Joseph (Lorie) Parker of Rembert, Rondell (Rochristor) Byrd of Washington, D.C., and Devin Dinkins of Rembert; a sister, Pastor Margaret Marie Parker of Dallas, Ga.; two grandchildren, Jacob Bernard Jackson Jr. and Jaquan Tyrique Jackson of Orangeburg; mother-in-law, Rosa Lee Bright of Sumter; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Lee Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, pastor, presiding, the Rev. Dorothy Maple, eulogist, assisted by Minister Jeanette Jenkins, the Rev. William Jefferson, Minister Kimberly Ferguson, the Rev. Margaret Parker and the Rev. James Durant.

The family will receive friends at her home, 4065 Ollie Drive, Rembert.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

The funeral procession will leave from her home at 1:30 p.m.

Floral bearers will be trustee's wives and missionaries.

Pallbearers will be trustees.

Burial will be in the Joshua Baptist Churchyard cemetery, Dalzell.

Services directed by the staff and management of Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

BOBBY YOUNG

Bobby Young died March 2, 2009, at his residence on East Moore Street.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of Emmitt Young and Georgia Mae Williams Young Dow.

JAMES N. DAVIS Sr.

James N. Davis Sr., son of the late Hezekiah and Lupurity Nelson Davis, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, in Sumter.

He was born Jan. 14, 1943, in Sumter County. "Boot, " as he was affectionately called, was the community mechanic.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories a loving and devoted family: wife, Annie Mae Davis of Sumter; son, James Davis Jr. of Sumter; three daughters, Lou Davis (Michael Singleton), Shelia McKnight and Meshell (Johnny) Hopkins, all of Sumter; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Lewis of Sumter and Lois Lipscomb of North Highland, Calif.; two brothers, Charles N. Davis of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Hezekiah Davis Jr. of Charleston; other relatives and friends.

Final viewing will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Shelia McKnight, 24 Branch St.

James Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

HELEN W. GEORGE

Helen Virginia Wallerich George, 89, widow of Charles O. George, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sigourney, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Ida Spiess Wallerich. Mrs. George was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the McLaurin Berean Sunday School Class and the Helen Murray Prayer Group. She was also a member of Circle 5, served as past circle chairman and was currently personal faith and life chairman for the circle. She was very active in Wednesday luncheons and a former member of the communion committee. Mrs. George was a former member of the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps and served during World War II. She served as a registered nurse in the labor and delivery department at Tuomey Hospital with 34 years of service. She was a charter member of the Evening Pilot Club, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 and the Shepherd's Center. Surviving are two sons, Thomas R. George (Chicki) of Watkinsville, Ga., and C. Douglas George (Terisue) of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two daughters, Pamela K. George of Sumter and Virginia Davenport (John) of Irvine, Calif.; two brothers, Howard Wallerich of Washington, Iowa, and David Wallerich of Sigourney; a sister, Elizabeth Aldinger of Sigourney; six grandchildren, Jed Danner, Mason Davenport, Maggie (Kevin) Ward, Lisa (Mich) Killingsworth, Dylan George and Tyler George; and four great-grandchildren, Rhodes Danner, Cricket Danner, Sam Ward and Haley Ward.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Wallerich and Dale Wallerich; and a sister, Gladys Haugen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Mark Durret officiating. Burial will be in Sumter cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jed Danner, Mason Davenport, Dylan George, Tyler George, Kevin Ward and Mich Killingsworth.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 9 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.
