BOBBY YOUNG

Bobby Young, 48, departed this earthly life on Monday, March 2, 2009, in Sumter County.

Born Nov. 20, 1960, in Rembert, he was the son of the late Emmitt Young and Georgia Mae Young Dow.

Bobby was a fun loving and caring person who loved everyone and was loved by many. Though the sweet angels from heaven came to take him from this earthly life, he will be sadly missed.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: five sisters, Minnie Dicks, Shirley (Sammie) Dinkins, Sandra (Jerome) Wells and Elizabeth Young, all of Sumter, and Martha Kendrick of Rembert; six brothers, Johnny (Willie Mae) Young, Bruce Allen (Eartha) Young Sr., Sgt. Larry (Carolyn) Young of North Carolina, Julius Young, Francis (Viola) Young of Rembert and David Kendrick; his stepfather, Joseph Dow; his stepmother, Martha Kendrick; two uncles, Roosevelt Williams of Horatio and Junior Brisbon of Rembert; a special great niece, Tyshera Rufus; a special great nephew, Anthony Gray; five nieces and one nephew, whom Bobby helped to raise, Michelle Rufus, Marshalla Dicks, Samantha Young, Betty McLeod, Jasmine Young and Johnny McLeod; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Patrick Young and one uncle, James Williams.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday from the St. James United Methodist Church, 720 Broad St., with the Rev. Cathy D. Mitchell, pastor, eulogist.

The family will receive friends at his home of his niece, Michelle Rufus, 2041 Columbia Circle, Sumter.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

The procession will leave from the home of his niece at 4 p.m.

Floral bearers and pallbearers will be family and friends

Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard cemetery, S.C. 261 North, Rembert.

Services directed by the staff and management of Williams Funeral Home Inc., Sumter.

WILLIAM KEVIN CRIBB Jr.

ALCOLU – William "Kevin" Cribb Jr., 17, son of the Rev. William K. Sr. and Tiffany Pillsbury Cribb, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009.

Born March 15, 1991, in Manning, he was a member of Trueway Holiness Church; a senior at Manning High School; a member of the Air Force Jr. ROTC SC-931 and the Army National Guard.

Surviving besides his parents of Alcolu are a brother, Curtis Bradley Cribb of Alcolu; paternal grandmother, Brenda K. Cribb of Sumter; paternal grandfather, Jack Cribb of Sumter; paternal great-grandmother, Penny Ewing of Sumter; paternal great-great-grandmother, Alice Young of Sumter; paternal great-grandmother, Suzanne Funderburke of Paxville; maternal grandfather, Warren Pillsbury of Manning; special sister, Nicole Prescott of Sumter; and a number of uncles and aunts.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Frankie Pillsbury, and paternal grandfather, Bucky Funderburke.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the John F. Thames Arena (Manning High School gymnasium) with the Rev. William Kevin Cribb and the Rev. Donnie Collins officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Oak Grove cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 7027 Sumter Highway, Alcolu.

Memorials may be made to Trueway Holiness Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 385, Alcolu, SC 29001.

ROBERT LEE EVANS

Robert "Robbie" Lee Evans, 53, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at the home, 111 Morgan Ave.

Funeral Services will be announced by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad St., Sumter, (803) 775-9386.

WARREN JACKSON

Warren "Moneyque" Jackson, 77, husband of Irene Scriven Jackson, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Shepherd Sr. and Maggie White Jackson and stepson of the late Pansy Moody Jackson. He received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County and served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by several plumbing companies in Sumter County. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a daughter, Wanda Jean Holloway of the home; two sons, Randy (Willistein) Jackson and Warren Kennedy Jackson, both of Philadelphia; two sisters, Mary Woods (Herbert) Johnson of Oswego and Ida (Charles) Gaillard of Sumter; four brothers, Moses (Rhodie) Jackson of Sumter, Willie (Harryett) Jackson of Sylacauga, Ala., James Arthur (Henrietta) Jackson of Philadelphia and Olin D. (Rosa) Jackson of Augusta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Janiah Candance Holloway of the home and Randy Jackson Jr. of Philadelphia; a great-grandchild, Emmanuel Randy Jackson of Philadelphia; three brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; two aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Brazela Wells; and four brothers, George, Shepherd Jr., Sidney and Moise Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mark Four Bridges Baptist Church on Four Bridges Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Sammie D. Simmons, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Corin Fritz Scriven and the Rev. Henry Scriven. Burial will follow in the Florence National cemetery, Florence.

Mr. Jackson will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

Nieces and nephews will serve as pallbearers and floral bearers.

Public viewing for Mr. Jackson will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 3435 W. Brewington Road.

Scriven Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN S. LONG

John Sherman Long, 78, beloved husband of 52 years to Tommye Shull Long, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Springdale Health Care Center in Camden.

Mr. Long was born on April 4, 1930, in Ray County, Tennessee, a son of the late Harry Edgar Long and the late Florence Nancy Gentry Long. He was an insurance agent in Sumter for many years, prior to working as a truck driver for Merritt Veterinary Supply where he retired. Mr. Long was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Oasis Church. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Trina L. Mask and Dan of Pinewood; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Wanda Long of Sumter; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Long of Sumter; a sister, Wilma Reel of Graysville, Tennessee; a brother, Flavis Long of Graysville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Melanie Elliott, Allison Elliott, Chantel Pinkham, Leslie Mask, Kelly Mask, Justin Mask, Jon Paul Mask, Bethany Long, and Maryn Long; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark A. "Tony" Long, and four brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, in the Chapel of Bullock Funeral Home. Honored to officiate is the Reverend Kevin Howell. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

The family requests those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Oasis Church, P.O. Box 2874, Sumter, SC 29151.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

MARGARET EVA B. JACKSON

MANNING -- Margaret Eva Bell Jackson, 59, wife of Jarrott Jackson Sr., died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born June 26, 1949, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Pinkney and Edna Holiday Oliver. Eva's sweet personality and kind heart were a joy to all who knew her. She had a love for her family and friends that was unmatched. She also had a great passion for fishing that provided her peace and joy.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Bradley Oliver, George Oliver Jr., Bubba Oliver and John Oliver; and three sisters, Edna Lee Oliver, Quite Mae Fulmore and Marie Jackson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Michelle (Juan) Houston of Charlotte, N.C., and Sharon Jackson of Summerton; her son, Jarrott Jackson Jr. of Summerton; her loving sisters, Kathleen Oliver of Summerton and Sarah Rhames of Trenton, N.J.; a brother, Joe Louis Oliver of Summerton; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Coburn, Desmond Jackson, Jamal Coburn, Jashean Kind, Taneshia Kind, Jalisha Mouzone and Courtney Lebby; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, who will also share in her memory.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jackson will be held at 2 p.m, Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. O'Donald Dingle, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Summerton Funeral Service cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, 37 Parson St., Summerton.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Summerton Funeral Service, 23 S. Duke St, Summerton, (803) 485-3755.

BESSIE FASON

KINGSTREE -- Bessie "Pinkie" Fason, 88, of Salters, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.

The family is receiving friends at 137 Paris Circle, Salters.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by Henryhand Funeral Home of Kingstree.

MICHAEL L. SIMON

Michael Lavern Simon, 45, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at his residence in Sumter County.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of Ruby M. Simon and the late Amos Simon Jr.

The family will receive friends at the Simon residence, 3650 Congruity Road.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel of Sumter.

FRANKLIN G. BROWN

GREELEYVILLE -- Franklin Glenn Brown, 46, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Brown was born March 14, 1963, in Williamsburg County, a son of Gladys Hanna Brown and the late Edwin Davis Brown Sr. He was a graduate of Laurence Manning Academy; a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church; and a self-employed electrician.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his sister, Dianne B. (Buck) Sprott of Manning; his brother, Ed Brown of Greeleyville; nephews, Davis (Ashley) Brown of Greeleyville and Louie Brown of Hemingway; and nieces, Hanna S. (John) Rivers of Sumter and Sarah Sprott of Manning.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Kingstree Memorial Gardens, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Greeleyville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 247, Greeleyville, SC 29056.

HAZEL K. DILWORTH

PAXVILLE – Hazel Kolb Dilworth, 89, widow of Claude Dilworth, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born April 25, 1919, in Paxville, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Catherine Kolb. She was first married to the late William Murray Griffin Sr. and was a member of Paxville Baptist Church.

Surviving are three granddaughters, April (William) Scott of Paxville, Rachel Archibald of Lexington and Andrea "Angie" Hodges of Paxville; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Scott, Brittany Griffin, Katie Harrison and Aaron Harrison; companion and friend and special grandfather to her grandchildren, Charles Black; and a number of dearly loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William Murray "Bill" Griffin Jr. and Nathan LeRoy Griffin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Gene Mosier officiating. Burial will follow in Paxville cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bubba Hennis, Britt Scott, Kenny Scott, Byron Ardis, Barry Ardis, Stewart Scott and Johnny Davis.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 1071 Kolb Road, Paxville.
