BERTHA L. FLOYD

LYNCHBURG -- Bertha Lynch Floyd, 88, died March 20, 2009, after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethany cemetery near Timmonsville.

Mrs. Floyd was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late John Leon and Flowers Rhodes Lynch. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lynchburg. Mrs. Floyd worked for Campbell Soup Co. before her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis W. Floyd; and a son, Wm. "LaVerne" Floyd.

Survivors are four sons, Dwain Floyd (Beverly) and James Floyd, both of Lynchburg, Dale Floyd (Donna) of Darlington and Bobby Floyd (Polly) of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Phebe Turner (Stubb) of Pinewood and Millie Pope (Ed) of Sumter; many special grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her heart was open to many special children in the community.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto St., Florence.

CAMRON T. GOFF

Camron Tremain Goff, infant son of Tremain L. Singleton and Lakia Sharda Goff, was born Feb. 2, 2009. He died on March 14, 2009, in Marietta, Ga.

In addition to his parents of Marietta, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Lee and Diana Wells Singleton of Columbia; maternal grandparents, Toney and Bevelyn Goff of Walterboro; great-grandmother, Rosa Lee Wells of Sumter; and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Sykes Savannah United Methodist Church, 12738 Bells Highway, Ruffin.

Carroll's Mortuary, 12389 Heritage Highway, Bamberg, SC 29003 is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIE JOE

BISHOPVILLE -- Willie Joe passed on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. He was 79.

Willie Joe leaves to cherish: his wife, Elouise Joe; sons, Earl Joe, Alfred Joe and Tyrone Joe; daughters, Louise Stuckey, Willia Boyd, Maggie Green, Blondie Richardson, Patricia Kirkland, Alfreda Mickens, Debbie Quick and Tess Fullard.

Family and friends are being received at 76 Plum Lane, Camden, SC 29020.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Square Deal Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Lee Central High School auditorium.

Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of all arrangements.

THURMOND MURPHY

LYNCHBURG -- Thurmond Murphy, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 28 Log Road.

Services will be announced by Jefferson Funeral Home, 130 McIntosh St., Lynchburg.

ROBERT L. McLALLEN

Robert Lester McLallen, age 88, beloved husband of the late Helen Mae Fickes McLallen, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland.

He was born in Erie, Pa., a son of the late Norman and Luella Bigalow McLallen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later worked as a truck driver. He was a Master Mason and honorary past master of the Sumter Masonic Lodge No. 364 AFM and was also a member of the Sumter York Rite Bodies. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis McLallen of Sumter and Robert McLallen of Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Linda Wagner of Wyoming, Cheryl Taylor, Karen Troyer and Maureen Kimball, all of Pennsylvania; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Pressley officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorial and Tributes, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216 or to American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Columbia, SC 29204.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter for the arrangements.

MARION HOWARD

Marion "Rat" Howard, 67, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland.

He was born Sept. 26, 1941, in Sumter, a son of the late Wash Sr. and Alice Lane Howard.

The family will receive friends at the home of Dorothy Howard, 334 Mooneyham Road, Sumter, SC 29153.

Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

ELIZA MAE GREEN

KINGSTREE -- Eliza Mae Green, 58, of Rochester, N.Y., and formerly of Kingstree, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Rochester.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her sister, Nettie Henderson, 83 Pine Ave., Kingstree.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by Henryhand Funeral Home of Kingstree.

EVERLINA SMILING

Everlena Smiling, 67, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at her residence in Sumter.

Born in Sumter County, she was one of seven children born to the late Deacon John and Mary Magdalene Smiling. She was educated in the Clarendon County School System and was a graduate of Manning Training School. She was a lifelong member of Bethesda Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities, including usher, choir member, missionary, pastor's aide, Sunday school teacher and youth group assistant. She was employed in the garment industry while residing in New York.

Surviving are four sisters, Earnestine (Leon) Pack of Sumter, Eula Mae (Charles) Dozier of Manning, Rebecca (Elder Louis) Lacey of Richmond, Va., and Gardenia (Ralph) Sligh of Columbia; two brothers, Elder John H. (Frances) Smiling and Pastor Al (Eyvonne) Smiling, both of Sumter; an aunt, Ardelle Smiling of Sumter; and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 320 Fulton St., Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. N. Lamont Newsome, pastor, Elder M. Louis Lacey, presiding, and the Rev. Billy Mack Graham, eulogist. Interment will follow in the Bethesda Church cemetery.

Ms. Smiling will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

Those wishing to depart from the family residence with the funeral procession should meet no later than 2 p.m. today at 1165 Radical Road, Sumter.

Palmer Memorial Chapel of Sumter is in charge of funeral arrangements.

WILLIAM I. BLACKWELL

William Ikeem "Ice Cream" Blackwell, 24, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in Sumter.

Born Aug. 5, 1984 in Bridgeport, Conn., he was a son of William Calvin Jr. and Teresa Blackwell.

He returned to South Carolina, where he received his formal education in the Clarendon County school system. He became a member of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ as his personal savior.

Survivors include his parents, Teresa Blackwell of Sumter and William Calvin Jr. of Vienna, Austria; one daughter; Imani U. Blackwell of Columbia; one son, Damier J. Blackwell of Alcolu; sisters Nakeisha Blackwell, Audja Blackwell, Barbara Blackwell, all of Sumter, and Lauryn Calvin, Courtney Calvin, Selena Calvin, all of Vienna, Austria, and Shenita Felder of Atlanta; brothers Tywon Blackwell and Marcus Calvin of Sumter, Brent Calvin and Joshua Calvin of Conway, Christopher Calvin of Miami, Travis Ferrell of Manning, and Tyler Calvin of Vienna, Austria.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 13331 Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. Dennis Brock, Pastor, and the Rev. Henry Otis Blackwell officiating.

Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his mother, 26 Rast St., Apt. 22, Sumter.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home, LLC of Manning.

ETHEL D. JACKSON

Mrs. Ethel Davis Jackson, 75, died Friday, March 20, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Sumter County on Aug. 8, 1933, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Ingram Davis.

Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced later by Job's Mortuary.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann Jackson and Willie Session, 70 Well Court.

Job's Mortuary, 312 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

STATESBURG S. SHULER

MANNING -- Statesburg Scott Shuler, wife of Priestly Shuler III, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Palmetto Heatlh Baptist.

She was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Manning, daughter of the late Sam and Sallie James Scott.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 8089 Moses Dingle Road, Jordan community, Manning.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home, LLC of Manning.

WILBUR McCALL

ALCOLU -- Wilbur McCall, 67, husband of Martha Della Boan McCall, died Friday, March 20, 2009, at his home.

Born July 5, 1941, in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mattie Nichols McCall.

He was a retired carpenter, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving besides his wife of Alcolu are two daughters, Janice Cercopely (Hal) of Alcolu, and Lisa Brown (Larry) of Sumter; three sisters, Mattie Margaret Logan of Alcolu and Mary Alice Nabors and Jane Watts, both of North Carolina; four brothers, Alex McCall of Charleston, Johnny McCall and Bobby Logan of Alcolu, and Clarence Logan of Manning; a half-brother, Frank Arthur Logan of Alcolu; four grandchildren, Cami Barnes (Mickey), Brittany Baird, Zane Shelton, and Larry Brown III; and one great-grandson, Ethan Barnes.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. W. Kevin Cribb officiating.

Burial will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery in Alcolu. Pallbearers are Zane Shelton, Bobby Braxton, Andrew Logan, Jimmy Boan, Raymond Alsbrook and Lennie Corbett.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, and at other times at the residence, 2422 Hotel Street, Alcolu.

Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 115 N. Sumter St., Suite 410, Sumter, SC 29150.
