ESTHER B. BARFIELD

EUTAWVILLE – Esther Caroline Baker Barfield, 77, of Eutawville, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Eutawville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Peter Belec officiating. Burial will follow in the Eutawville cemetery.

Mrs. Barfield was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Jessie and Annie Mae Johnson Baker. A graduate of Ashwood High School, she was a member of Eutawville United Methodist Church, and a member of the Vance Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Baker.

Surviving are her husband, Harold Barney Barfield of the home; daughters, Edie Reitz of North Charleston and Ann (Tom) Marlowe of Goose Creek; a son, Harold Ricky Barfield of Buena Vista, Colo.; a sister, Annie (David) Griggs of Sumter; a brother, J.P. (Dot) Baker Jr. of Sumter; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the family at 2225 Greenridge Road, Apt. 413, North Charleston, SC 29406.

Avinger Funeral Home of Holly Hill is in charge of arrangements.

KOREI J. BULL

DARLINGTON -- Funeral services for Korei Jimmy Bull, who died March 24, 2009, will be held at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of Boatwright's Chapel on Main with Elder Wesley Belin officiating. Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens.

Korei, 34, was a son of Vivian Jackson and the late Jimmy Bull.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons and two daughters; four brothers; four sisters; grandfather, Robert Curtis; grandmother, Claretha Murphy; several uncles and aunts; and many other relatives and friends.

Boatwright's Chapel on Main, 501 S. Main St., Darlington, is in charge of arrangements.

ENGLISH M. COOPER

English Mack Cooper, 74, widow of Pauline Wilson Howard Cooper, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at his residence in Mayesville.

He was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Lee County, a son of the late Mack and Viola Wheeler Cooper.

The family will receive friends at the home, 2180 Avenue B, Mayesville, SC 29104.

Funeral plans will be announced later by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

JACOB JOHNSON

SUMMERTON -- Jacob Johnson, 55, entered eternal rest on Friday, March 27, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born June 25, 1953, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Victor and Frizal Dias Johnson.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Deacon Ben and Camilla Bosier Johnson, 3183 Furman Road, Summerton.

Professional services entrusted to Dyson's Home for Funerals of Summerton.

JAMES M. STUBBS Jr.

ELLOREE -- James "Jim" Marion Stubbs Jr., 54, of 58 Pintail Lane, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 26, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Fellowship of Praise Church, Santee, with Pastor Tim Sanders officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ocean Woods cemetery, Myrtle Beach.

Fogle-Hungerpiller Funeral Home of Elloree is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stubbs was born in Bennettsville, a son of Connie Johnson Stubbs and the late James Marion Stubbs Sr. He was a member of Fellowship of Praise Church, where he was active in adult and youth missions and the outreach ministries. He was a partner in Port City Wraps in Charleston and he owned and operated Charmingly Southern Antiques in Elloree with his wife, Marti.

Survivors include his wife, Marti C. Stubbs of Elloree; his mother, Connie Johnson Stubbs of Sumter; two sons, Terry and Kathy Layton of Hobart, Ind., and A. Ryan Layton of Elloree; a brother, Harold Stubbs of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two sisters, Judy and John Berg of Columbia and Ruth Ann and Arthur du Puy of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren who called him "Big Pop;" and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Fellowship of Praise Church Youth Fund, P.O. Box 39, Santee, SC 29142 or to a charity of one's choice.

STATESBURG S. SHULER

Statesburg Scott Shuler, wife of Priestly Shuler III, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Palmetto Heatlh Baptist, Columbia.

Born Nov. 7, 1928, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Sallie James Scott.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. today.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Mount Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 5918 S.C. Highway 260, Manning.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 8089 Moses Dingle Road, Jordan community, Manning.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

GENEVIEVE LEE

CONCORD, N.C. -- Genevieve Runette "Bee" White Lee, 92, died Friday, March 27, 2009.

She was born June 27, 1916, in Clarendon County.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Oak Grove cemetery in Manning.

Harstell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NEIL E. PEPPLE

MANNING -- Neil Emile Pepple, 34, of Manning, and formerly of Garrett, Ind., died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Neil was born on Oct. 8, 1974, in Auburn, Ind., a son of Daniel and Sung (Chae) Pepple. He lived in Garrett for 30 years before moving to Manning in 2004.

Neil was a real estate agent employed by Agent Owned Realty.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning.

Neil is survived by his parents of Angola, Ind.; his brother, Benjamin Pepple of Angola; his sister, Jesse Pepple of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and a niece.

MARY M. FOREMAN

Mary Mamich Foreman, 89, widow of Lt. Col. Lewis Alden Foreman, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Covenant Place.

Born in Davis, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Frank Mamich and Frances Strdijot Mamich.

Mrs. Foreman was a member of St. James Lutheran Church where she served on the altar guild and was a member of the Dora Bultman Circle.

She was a graduate of Franklin Square Nursing School in Baltimore, Md., and served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Foreman was a registered nurse and retired from Tuomey Regional Medical Center after more than 20 years of service. She will be remembered as an excellent cook who loved to share with friends, family and her bridge clubs. Her charity for others was always at the center of her life.

Surviving are three sons, Frank L. Foreman of Statesville, N.C., Lewis A. "Skosh" Foreman Jr. and wife, Libby, of Columbia and James P. Foreman and wife, Lee Anne, of Amber, Pa.; one daughter, Kimberly F. Harvin and her husband, Sep, of Sumter; two sisters, Edith Waskewich and Julia Mamich both of Washington, DC.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Patrick W. (Wes) Poole officiating.

Private Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the services in the church fellowship hall.

MARY ANDREWS

Mary Frances Honeycutt Andrews, 87, widow of Marvin Edward Andrews Sr., died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Clinton, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Herman H. Honeycutt and the late Florence Alderman Honeycutt. Mrs. Andrews was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class and UMW of Aldersgate. She loved animals and in her later years she enjoyed the dear companionship of her pet Allison.

Survivors include three children, Marvin E. "Sonny" Andrews Jr. (Sylvia), Sharon Andrews Barrett (Billy) and Mary Dale Andrews Griffin (Doug), all of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Brittany Barrett Tindal, Stephanie Erin Griffin, Andrew Leslie Griffin, Brandon Douglas Griffin, Marvin E. "Mark" Andrews III, Helen Suzanne Cross and Sylvia LeeAnn Andrews; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Honeycutt Bolger; and a brother, Charles Herman Honeycutt.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Sumter cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Pickens officiating.

Pallbearers will be Barry W. Clark, Edward D. Porter, Thomas T. "Bubba" Bolger, Stephen C. Heriot, Stanley L. Tindal and Paul J. Krouse.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Doug and Mary Dale Griffin, 997 Rolling Hill Lane.

Memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate UMC Building Fund, 211 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150, or to the SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

LORETTA C. BROOKS

Loretta Carraway Brooks, 54, wife of Fred E. Brooks Jr., died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at her residence, 2385 Pavillion Terrace, Deltona, Fla.

Born June 9, 1954, in Manning, she was the daughter of Daisy Lloyd Carraway and the late John Carraway Sr.

The family is receiving friends starting Monday at the home of mother Daisy L. Carraway, 1863 Little Star Road, Alcolu.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home, LLC of Manning.

PHILIP E. WELLS

Philip Eugene Wells, 84, husband of Elizabeth Carraway Wells, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Pinewood, he was the son of the late Jesse O'Neil Wells and the late Colleen Jones Wells.

He graduated from Pinewood High School and later served his country as a gunner in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Wells was a member of Grace Baptist Church and American Legion Post #15. He retired from Shaw Air Force Base as the Assistant Fire Chief, and was later employed by Coca-Cola Bottling Company.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a daughter, Jeannie Wells Moss (Tommy); a step-daughter, Debbie Carraway; a step-son, Carl Carraway (Denise); a step-daughter-in-law, Susan Oldhouser; a granddaughter, Amanda Moss Thode (Daniel); a grandson, Michael David Moss; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Grace-Lynn, Emma and Lance; seven step-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Wingate of Dothan, Ala., Betty Kelly of Broussard, La., and Helen Donahue of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth F. Wells; and a stepson, Wilson Oldhouser.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. James R. Chandler officiating.

Burial will be in the Sumter cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 575 Clifton Road.
