PAUL CRAWFORD

Paul Crawford was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Wellsburg, W.Va., a son of the late George Muzingo and Dorothy Crawford. He died Monday, March 30, 2009.

Mr. Crawford was raised in an orphanage. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific in the Army Rangers. From here he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and the Pacific Theatre Ribbons with two Battle Stars. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received numerous awards and ribbons from there as well. He retired from the Air Force as a master sergeant after 24 ½ years. Mr. Crawford also retired from the Sumter Police Department in 1987 as a detective sergeant, C.S.I. Mr. Crawford was a Master Mason and a life member of VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of the First Southern Methodist Church of Sumter.

Mr. Crawford married the love of his life, Joanne Cole, in 1949, and she preceded him in death in August 2007.

He was also preceded in death by his twin sister, Pauline Mauder of Prosperity; a stepsister, Rosa Lee Johnson of W.Va.; his mother-in-law, Lillian Cole; three brothers-in-law, Odell Patterson, Robert Smith and Pat Veltre; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Veltre; a niece, Marsha Smith Skey; and a nephew, Bobby W. Smith Jr.

Survivors include his daughter, Pamela A. Kruschke (Tracy) of Spring Green, Wis.; two sons, Bruce A. Crawford of Sumter and David B. Crawford (Sara) of North Myrtle Beach; six grandchildren, John P. Longseth, Amber K. Crawford, Joanne M. Crawford, B. Allan Crawford Jr., D. Brian Crawford and Brandon T. Crawford; two great-grandsons, Jordan P. Longseth and Mason K. Longseth; a stepsister, Betty Covet; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor C. Patterson and Rose C. Smith, both of Sumter, and Patricia C. Ciampi of Houston, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Fred C. Cole of Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Southern Methodist Church with the Rev. Ellison Evans and the Rev. Barbee Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John P. Longseth, B. Allan Crawford, Brandon T. Crawford, D. Brian Crawford, Jim Price, and David Stone.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sumter Police Department.

Memorials may be made to First Southern Methodist Church, 321 Miller Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

LILA B. STOKES

BISHOPVILLE -- Lila Berry Stokes, 89, widow of Lenice Hugo Stokes, died Monday, March 30, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Elizabeth Johnson Berry. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Bayview Baptist Church in Columbia.

Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Carolyn R. Stokes of Florence and Muriel E. Fisher of Fairfax, Va.; two grandchildren, Michael A. Burgess of Fairfax and Margot A. Shibley of Strasburg, Va.; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters; and a nephew, Marion Berry Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Concord United Methodist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Berry, Kelvin Berry, Kyle Berry, Andrew Bunton, Michael Brugess and Al Murphy.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the home, 1534 Hardscrabble Road, Columbia, and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Bayview Baptist Church, 5300 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29204.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.

REGINALD BOSTON

Reginald "Reggie" Boston, loving husband of Jennifer Ashley Boston and son of Randy Sr. and Susan H. Boston, was born July 5, 1980, in Sumter. He surrendered his earthly life to our Heavenly Father on Monday, March 30, 2009.

In his early youth, he joined Saint John Baptist Church, Pinewood. Reggie was educated in the public schools of Sumter County (Pinewood) and graduated from Lakewood High School in 1998. He later earned an associate degree in business from Central Carolina Technical College, Sumter. He was the owner of J&R Landscaping business in Sumter. Prior to his most recent employment with the U.S. Postal Service in Columbia, he was employed with P.I. Security Sumter and served a tour of duty with the U.S. Army.

Precious memories will be cherished by his loving wife, Jennifer Ashley Boston; a son, Devin Amir Boston of the home; his parents, Randy Sr. and Susan H. Boston of Pinewood; twin brother, Randy (Keystonna) Boston Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Sheena Boston and Lakeisha (Ernest Jr.) Hampton, both of Pinewood; his maternal grandmother, Rosa Odell Hampton of Pinewood; paternal grandmother, Julia Mae Boston of Pinewood; godparents, the Rev. Earl and Helen Timmons of Pamplico; his father and mother-in-law, Lewis and the Rev. Constance Walker of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Denise (Jimmie) Backu of Upper Marlboro, Md., Angela (Marvin) Hood of Easley; a brother-in-law, Sam (Deborah) Whittleton of Woodlawn, Md.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, the Rev. Powell Hampton Sr., and paternal grandfather, Richard Boston Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Salem Baptist Church, 320 W. Fulton St., with the Rev. Dr. Lamonte Newsome, pastor, the Rev. Joe Gamble, pastor of St. John Baptist Church, Pinewood, officiating by the Revs. Duwine Sinkler, Lavaron Johnson, Thomas Junious, Powell Hampton Jr. and Leroy Williams.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at 3750 Wedgefield Road, Sumter.

James Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

LORETTA C. BROOKS

DELTONA, Fla. -- Loretta Carraway Brooks, 54, wife of Fred E. Brooks Jr., died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at her residence, 2385 Pavillion Terrace, Deltona.

Born June 9, 1954, in Manning, she was a daughter of Daisy Lloyd and the late John Carraway Sr. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Cypress Fork AME Church and after marriage she joined Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess. She was a graduate of Manning High School, Manning.

Survivors are her husband, Fred E. Brooks Jr. of the home; mother, Daisy Lloyd Carraway of Manning; daughter, Sa-Retha Brooks of West Palm Beach, Fla., Eric A. (Shemia) Brooks of Deltona; three brothers, John Carraway Jr. and Alfred Carraway, both of Manning, Tyrone Carraway of Columbia; and four sisters, Mary Ellen Singleton of Charlotte, Shirley Brooks of Atlanta, Jeanette Blandon of Sarasota, Fla., and Naomi White of Florence.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cypress Fork AME Church, 5994 Brewington Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. Leroy Green, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The family is at the home of mother, Daisy L. Carraway, 1863 Little Star Road, Manning.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

JEREMIAH BRAILSFORD

FLORENCE -- Jeremiah Brailsford, husband of Carrie Singleton Brailsford, died Friday, April 3, 2009, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of Florence.

Born Nov. 27, 1927, in Summerton, he was a son of the late Bertie E. and Rena Glover Brailsford.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1076 Brailsford Lane, Summerton.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Fleming & Delaine Funeral Home and Chapel.

KIMBERLY REYNOLDS

Kimberly Ann West Reynolds, 42, beloved wife of Gregory Grant Reynolds, died on Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Medical University of South Carolina.

She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of Patricia Ann Sosinski Hall and stepfather C. Thomas Hall. She graduated from Sumter High School and attended Central Carolina Technical College where she majored in nursing. She worked in the accounting department at Dixie Tools and worked with the Awanis Group at the Alice Drive Baptist Church where she was a member.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are one son, Shelby Ryan West and his wife, Meredith Sloan West, of Florence; two daughters, Holly Dawn Reynolds and Greta Marie Reynolds, both of Sumter; one sister, Mary Kay West Norton of Sumter; and one grandson, Dylan Pace Johnson of Florence.

She was preceded in death by: two uncles, Frederick Martin and Richard Sosinski; two aunts, Florence Martin and Margaret Sosinski; and a cousin, Frederick Martin Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clay Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Anna Nunnery.

Memorials may be made to The Hollings Cancer Center, MUSC Foundation, 18 Bee St., P.O. Box 250450, Charleston, SC 29425.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

WILLIAM F. DOVE

William Floyd Dove, 23, son of William L. and Mary Dove, died on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at his residence.

Plans will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home.

WILLIAM PUGH

William "Pumpkin" Pugh, 56, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 9, 1952, in Paxville, a son of the late Joseph Pugh Sr. and Bessie Sweat Pugh Huggins. He attended the public schools of Clarendon County and was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by Gold Kist for 35 years. Mr. Pugh enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Witherspoon Pugh of Manning; three daughters, Stayse (Larry) Pugh of Sumter, Kimberly Pugh and Kelly (Franklin) Pugh, both of Manning; a son, William Lamont (Celest) Pugh of Manning; five grandchildren, Miracle Bowman, Shartavia Pugh, Jair Pugh, Travonta Adams and Keahna Whaley; two sisters, Bessie (Isaac) Stephen of Rimini and Minister Rhounette Simon of Manning; three brothers, Lawrence (Francis) Pugh and Howard (Valencia) Pugh, both of Manning, and Joe Lewis (Geneva) Pugh of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (George) Hill of Sumter and Elizann Witherspoon of Paxville; a brother-in-law, Thomas Witherspoon of Sumer; three aunts, Vermell (Sampson) Cubit and Earline (King) Bennett, both of Manning, and Mable (Donaldson) Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.; additional cherished family members, Amanda Montgomery, Bernice Montgomery, Anqunetta Dow, Da'nia Kindall, Keith and Kyauna Furman, Antiane West, Crystal Wells and Quincy Montgomery, all of Manning; special friends, Maxine Cooper of the home, Sally Montgomery of Manning and Franklin Simmons of Alcolu; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Two grandchildren, Ebony and April Coard; a brother, Joseph Pugh Jr.; and a sister, Reba Pugh preceded him in death.

Viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary Inc.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Chapel and Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem St., with Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr., eulogist, assisted by Pastor Rosa Fulton. Interment will follow in Smith cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of Barbara W. Pugh, 1702 Jackson Road, Manning, SC 29102, and the residence, 218 S. Washington St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

BERT GRAHAM Jr.

CASSAT -- Bert Graham Jr., died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at his residence.

The family will receive friends at 240 Shady Grove Road.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville.

ARCHIE L. RICHARDSON

Archie L. Richardson, 65, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, in Sumter.

Born Oct. 16, 1943, in Moncks Corner, he was a son of Lewis Richardson and Beauty Richardson.

Survivors include his mother, Beauty Richardson; wife, Thelma Richardson; children, Aysan Providence and Nykadra Richardson; and siblings, Richard Richardson and Janie L. Spence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1008 Highway 315, Moncks Corner.

Burial will be in Old Nazareth cemetery, Pinopolis.
