BERT GRAHAM Jr.

CASSATT -- Funeral services for Bert Graham Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. Matthew Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. B.W. Freeman officiating. Interment will be in Corbett cemetery, directed by Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville.

Bert, affectionately known as "Woody, " was a son of the late Bert Sr. and Eloise Graham. He was formerly employed with Vernon Reynolds, until his health failed. He also worked with Billy Clyburn. Bert was an avid fisherman and gardener. His favorite pastime was watching professional wrestling.

Woody invited Christ into his heart as Lord and Savior. He joined St. Matthew Baptist Church and was a member of the men's choir.

He is survived by six siblings, Nathaniel (Martha) Graham, Eloise Caldwell, Georgia Smith, Rosa (Julius) James and Jessie Mae (David) Jefferson, all of Bishopville, and Victoria McKenzie of Cassatt; four aunts; spiritual mother, Clara Magazine; four nieces; five nephews; eight great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

WILLIAM GEARY

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- William Geary, 52, husband of Edith Brown Geary, died April 5, 2009, at Onslow Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville.

Born May 28, 1955, in Charleston, he was a son of the late William Talman Geary and Gwendolyn Cain Geary. He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined St. Luke AME Church. In 1973, he graduated from Northwestern High School, Miami, Fla. After relocating to Davis Station, he joined the Church of Christ.

Survivors are his wife, Edith Denise Geary; two sisters, Sylvia Davis and Cathey Knight; and two brothers, Oliver Cain and George Cain.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hayes F. & LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, with the Rev. Jerome McCray officiating.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

TERRY ABRAHAM

MANNING -- Terry Abraham, 47, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born March 27, 1962, in Manning, he was a son of Henry Abraham and the late Lenora Cantey Abraham.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 6264 Juneburn Road, Manning.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

SHADESIA J. WELLS

Little Miss Shadesia Jade Wells, 19 month-old daughter of Jason and Daphney Esteve Wells, was born Aug. 22, 2007. She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Survivors are her parents, Jason and Daphney Esteve Wells of the home; a brother, Darien Wells; two sisters, Jayla Wells and Jazmine Kelly; paternal grandparent, Estelle Wells; maternal grandparents, Prosper Esther and Martha V. Esteve; three uncles, Nathaniel Wells Jr., Herbert (Jennifer) Wells and Troy Wells; four aunts, Stephanie Johnson, Carol Cher, Macrterline Rockingster and Yorvoll Gustamar GA; a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Nathaniel Wells Sr.; and paternal great-grandparents, Malachi Wells Sr. and Hattie Rouse Wells.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Myers, pastor, and the Rev. Alberta Myers. Burial will follow in the Mayesville Community cemetery.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 760 Commander Road, Sumter, where the procession will leave from at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charges of these arrangements.

JOSEPH H. RICHBURG

Joseph Henry "Bay" Richburg, husband of Mary Ann Parson Richburg, passed on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Overlook Hospital, Summit, N.J.

Born Nov. 8, 1946, he was a son of the late Willie G. "Son" and Josie Brailsford Richburg. Bay was raised in a Christian home and, in his youth, joined Friendship AME Church. He graduated from Scott's Branch High School in 1964. Upon completion of high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1968. In 1978, he earned a bachelor of science degree in management science from Kean University.

Bay joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1968 as a mail handler. Wanting to see more action from his job, Bay attended the academy for postal police officers and, in 1972, accepted the position as a postal police officer in the Newark, N.J., division of the postal inspection service. In March 1982, Bay was promoted to postal police supervisor as a sergeant. During his distinguished career, he received numerous commendations and awards. He also served as a firearms instructor as part of the postal inspection service's threat management team, along with instructing courses on Remington and Ruger operation. Bay retired from the Postal Inspection Service in 2007, having served an accomplished 35 years. Though Bay enjoyed his career with the postal service, he was a mechanic at heart. He was able to turn his hobby of working on cars to a second successful vocation.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Parson Richburg; two children, Marci Laventrice Richburg of Hillside, N.J., and attorney Joseph Franklin Richburg of New York, N.Y.; four sisters, Minnie Deloris Hillard of Santee, Margaret Loretta Richburg of Summerton, Bessie Joyce (John) Askew of Irvington, N.J., and Mattie Louise Richburg of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Willie Edward (Annie Mae) Richburg of Sumter, P. Martin Richburg of Jonesboro, Ga., and Leon Norman (Virginia) Richburg of Summerton; and mother-in-law, Beulah M. Parson of Davis Station.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Friendship AME Church, Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. James B. Stukes, pastor, officiating, assisted by Presiding Elder Jonathan J. Baker and the Revs. Alonzo Middleton, Dr. George Watson, Dr. Ceaser R. Richburg and Dr. Sylvester R. Miott. Interment will follow in Friendship AME Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Richburg family home, 1821 Willie G. Richburg Road.

Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home & Chapel are in charge of the arrangements.

JOHN H. PEAVY

MANNING -- John H. Peavy, 94, passed away on April 6, 2009, in Richmond, Va., where he had resided for more than 50 years.

Born and raised in Manning, he graduated from Manning High School, where he played football. A longtime employee of the federal government, he retired as an auditor with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

He was predeceased by his wife, Caroline Holladay Peavy; and a daughter, Ann Caroline Pash.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura P. Henkle of New York City; and two granddaughters, Cynthia Anne Henkle and Charlotte Elaine Henkle, both of Seattle, Wash.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Manning cemetery with the Rev. Charlie Tyler officiating.

MINNIE R. HALL

Pinewood --Minnie Ruth Richburg Hall, 75, widow of James Green and James Hall, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at her residence, 14027 Panola Road, Pinewood.

Born Oct. 12, 1933, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Richburg and Minnie Johnson Richburg.

The family is receiving friends at the home.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

TERRY ABRAHAM

MANNING -- Terry Abraham, 47, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born March 27, 1962, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Henry Abraham and the late Lenora Cantey Abraham.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 6264 Juneburn Road, Alcolu.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and shall be announced by Fleming-DeLaine Funeral Home & Chapel of Manning.

VIVIAN C. BOYKIN

REMBERT -- Vivian Christine Boykin, 83, of Rembert, entered eternal life on April 9, 2009.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Community Bible Church in Camden with the Rev. Jerry Peacock presiding.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home of her nephew, Babe Catoe, 4951 Red Hill Road, Rembert.

Miss Boykin, known to her family as "Bill", died peacefully after living 83 amazing years.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Cora and Miller Boykin. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. She retired from the Lee County school system after many years of service. Always living a Christian life, her greatest joys were her family, her church and helping others. She was an active member of Community Bible Church for many years until she was unable to attend.

Miss Boykin leaves to cherish her memory a number of nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

Dwayne Catoe, Jonathan Atkinson, Tim Eisenback, Wayne Capel, Don Reid and Mike Holland will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests that those wishing may send memorials to Community Bible Church: Building Fund, 5711 Red Hill Road, Camden, SC 29020.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Springdale Nursing Home and Hospice of Kershaw for their kindness and care shown during her illness.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.

Bishopville -- William Ruggles, 66, husband of Janice Ruggles, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Carolina Pines Hospital.

Services will be announced by Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville.

LINDSAY LOVELY

BISHOPVILLE -- Funeral services for Lindsay Lovely will be held at 3 p.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow in New Hope cemetery directed by Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville.

He was the son of Willie James and Mary Ann Lovely, and was born Aug. 30, 1987. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. He attended Lee Central High School.

He is survived by his parents, Mary Ann Lovely of the home and Willie James Lovely of Bishopvile; two children, Makenzie and Jamira Lovely of Betune; a brother, Bernard Peoples of the home; grandparents, Charles Lovely Sr. and Louise Lovely of Bishopville; nine aunts; seven uncles; special friends; and other relatives and friends.

Boatwright Funeral Home, 113 Harlem St., Bishopville, is in charge of arrangements.

ANNETTE M. LUDD

Mrs. Annette Murray Ludd, 52, entered eternal rest at Tuomey Regional Medical Center on Thursday, April 9, 2009. Born Oct. 1, 1956, in Sumter County, she was the daughter of Willie Mae Sigler Murray and the late McKinley Murray.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 1435 Cherryville Drive, Sumter.

Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced by Community Funeral Home of Sumter.

WILLIE HOLMES

Willie Holmes, 65, husband of Mary Fleming Holmes, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at the VA Bryan Dorn Medical Center in Columbia.

Born in Lee County on Jan. 8, 1944, he was the son of the late Alex Holmes Sr. and Marie Herriott Holmes.

The family will receive friends at the family home 175 West Brewington Road, Sumter.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

EMELIE R. NESBITT

Emelie Ruth Nesbitt, 84, widow of Theodore C. Nesbitt, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Sumter Health & Rehab.

Born June 23, 1924, in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Lula Pritchard Geddings. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Bethesda Church of God.

Surviving are two daughters, Audrey Clowrey of Pleasantville, N.J., and Emily Rae Osteen of Sumter; four sons, Fred O. Mathis Jr., Wayne Mathis and his wife, Cheryl, and Gary Nesbitt, all of Sumter, and Ted Nesbitt of Smoaks; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Bethesda Church of God, 2730 Broad St. Sumter, with the Rev. Al Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park in Sumter.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, 515 Miller Road, Sumter, and at other times at the residence of Emily Rae Osteen, 2061 Tudor Place, Sumter.

Memorials may be made to Bethesda Church of God, 2730 Broad St., Sumter, SC 29150.
