NOLIA P. BENENHALEY

Nolia Ann Perry Benenhaley, 69, widow of John A. "Mutt" Benenhaley, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at her home.

Born in Crowley, La., she was a daughter of the late Willie Perry and the late Laura Duhon Perry.

Survivors include two sons, John Benenhaley, Jr. and Francis Benenhaley (Jodie), both of Sumter; five daughters, Sheila Mayberry, Lettie Appleby, Pamela Holland (Sandy), and Angela Witt (Darrell), all of Sumter, and Dawn Luquer (Anthony) of San Antonio, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Wayne Perry, Willie Perry, Joe Perry, Ronnie Perry and Donnie Perry, all of Crowley; three sisters, Norma Faye Kibodeaux of Crowley, Sharon Martin of Lafayette, La. and Rose Haufpauier of Key West, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann Graber; a brother, Jimmy Perry; and two sisters, Barbara Rowe and Elaine Rowe.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Long Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Lynn Gardner officiating. Burial will be in the Long Branch Baptist Church cemetery.

Chris Scudder, Chris Benenhaley, Randy Truesdale, George Holland Jr., Eric Appleby and Alan Appleby will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 115 N. Sumter St., No. 410, Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.

FATE LEWIS

Mr. Fate "Bo-Jo" Lewis, 97, of 5177 Red Hill Road, Rembert, died on Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

The family will receive friends at 6433 Red Hill Road, Camden, the home of his daughter, Ms. Zooline McDuffie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Mt. Calvary Holiness Church in Rembert.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Haile's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

JUNE B. BOYD

June Brown Boyd, 58, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Hospice Center of Charleston following an extended illness.

She was born in Kingstree, a daughter of the late David Crawford "D.C." Brown Jr. and Grace Evans Brown.

June was a teacher for District 17 schools for 23 years. She taught many years as a 3rd grade teacher, but most recently worked with 4th and 5th graders struggling with reading. She was a faithful member of Destiny Praise Center. Her biggest accomplishment was being an amazing and loving mother to her two daughters, and serving God passionately in all that she did. To God be the thanks for this beautiful life lived.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Louise Sutton Boyd of James Island, and Mary Evelyn Grace Boyd and Serge Armstrong of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Virginia Brown Williamson of Kingstree; a brother, David Harvey Brown of Myrtle Beach; two nieces; three nephews; and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Destiny Praise Center, 1215 Thomas Sumter Highway 521 North, Sumter.

Interment will follow in Tisdale cemetery in Kingstree. Honored to officiate is the Rev. James Stewart.

The family is pleased to greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Bullock Funeral Home.

The family requests those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Hospice Center of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29464.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

WALTER DIXON

Walter Dixon died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Boatwright Funeral Home.

ROSELLA B. RIVERS

Rosella B. Rivers died Saturday, April 11, 2009.

She was the mother of Mrs. Katherine R. Howard, and mother-in-law of the Rev. Laddie N. Howard.

The family will receive friends at the family home, 1065 Crooked Road, Bamberg.

Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Union Baptist Church, Highway 301 South, Bamberg.

DAVID L. RIDGILL Sr.

MANNING -- David Leslie Ridgill Sr., 83, husband of Christine Fleming Ridgill, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at his home in Manning.

Born July 8, 1925, in Manning, he was the son of the late Richard Leslie and Sheldonia Smoak Ridgill.

He was a retired merchant who started out on a bicycle as a young boy selling goods. Mr. Ridgill was a Mason and past Worshipful Master of St. Peter's Masonic Lodge #54, a member of Manning Lion's Club and a lifetime member of Manning First Baptist Church.

Surviving besides his wife of Manning are a daughter, Chris Emory of Summerton; two sons, David Leslie Ridgill Jr. (Ramona), and John M. Ridgill (Anne) of Manning; a sister, Julia Margaret Richburg of Manning; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Manning First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Cottone officiating. Burial will follow in Manning cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, and at other times at the residence, 1285 Country Club Circle.

Memorials may be made to Manning First Baptist Church, 49 W. Boyce St., Manning, SC 29102.

FLORINE G. WILLIAMS

Florine Green Williams, 84, widow of Eugene D. Williams Sr., was called from her labors on earth to an everlasting home on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

We, the children, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great-grand children, nieces, nephews and friends bow in humble submission of God, rejoicing that her life was well-spent preparing for this leg of her journey. Florine, "Mommy" as she was affectionately called, was born April 26, 1924, in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Luther Green and Lottie Pinckney Green.

She attended the public schools of Sumter County. She was a faithful member of Joshua Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Missionary Society and Trustees' Wives. In 2004, she was crowned "Woman of the Year" by the Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Twelve Tribes of Israel.

Florine leaves to cherish her loving memory: four sons, Eugene (Carol), Leroy (Loretta), Willie and Aaron and a daughter, Dorothy (Barney) Gadson, all of Sumter; two sisters, Mary Robinson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Estelle Moore of Sumter; two brothers, Charlie L. Green of New York City, N.Y., and Moise Green of Sumter; one sister-in-law; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She also leaves a special friend to cherish fond memories, Mrs. Mary L. Brunson.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Phillips.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Rosa Muldrow, presiding, the Rev. R. L. Williams, the Rev. Marie Webb, the Rev. Frank Williams Jr. and the Rev. Irene Anthony.

The family will receive friends at the family home, 1013 Dibert St., Sumter.

The family will also be receiving friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, 821 N. Main St., Sumter.

The casket will be placed in the church at noon.

The funeral procession will leave from the family home at 12:20 p.m.

Joshua Baptist Church Missionary Society and the Twelve Tribes of Israel will serve as floral bearers.

The Sumter Police Department and Joshua Baptist Church trustees will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will be in Joshua Baptist churchyard cemetery in Dalzell.

Services were directed by the staff and management of Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

BEVERLY DUREN

MANNING -- Beverly Carol Nelson Duren entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 6, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. She was born June 26, 1939, in Paterson, N.J, a daughter of the late Lewis Nelson Jr. and Ida White Nelson.

She was the stepdaughter of Rebecca Nelson and the late Marie Waddy Nelson.

She attended Eastside High School in Paterson. Upon moving to Clarendon County, she was employed by Sumter County School District 17. After graduating from Sumter Beauty School, she realized her goal by becoming the owner and operator of Head Hunter's Beauty Shop in Summerton. She was also an employee of Dyson's Home for Funerals.

Beverly also served her community by working as a volunteer in various organizations throughout Clarendon County, including becoming a foster grandparent in Clarendon School District One. She was a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton, where she served on the Deaconess Board and worked with the Young Adult Choir.

She was united in Holy matrimony to James Duren.

Beverly leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Deacon James Duren of the home; a daughter, Dorian Leslie Duren of Fremont, Calif.; two sons, Maurice Duren of Greensboro, N.C. and Rayshawn Duren of Jacksonville, Fla.; a goddaughter, Whitley Ragin of the home, a godson, Fredrick Johnson of Summerton; two brothers, Gary (Debbie) Nelson of Mississippi and Roger Nelson of New Jersey; a sister, June Browne of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; a special friend, Micky Gary of Patterson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. William T. Johnson, pastor officiating.

Final resting place will be the church cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers and floral bearers will be the deacons and deaconess of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church.

A viewing will be held at Dyson's Home for Funerals from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Beverly will be placed in the church sanctuary from noon until the hour of the service.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 6202 Summerton Highway, in the Silver community, Manning.

Dyson's Home for Funerals is in charge of the arrangements.
