Mrs. Dorothy G. Augustus -- Columbia

Services for Mrs. Dorothy G. Augustus, 62, will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2003, at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, 2726 Kennerly Road, Orangeburg, with burial in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Augustus died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003.

Born in Orangeburg, she was a daughter of Annie Mae Mayers and the late Lealather Mayers Sr. She was a self-employed cosmetologist with the Renaissance Beauty Salon, with 38 years of service. A graduate of Wilkinson High School, she also graduated from Denmark Technical College receiving a degree in cosmetology.

Survivors are her mother, Annie Mae Mayers, of Orangeburg; sisters, Margaret Mayers, Mae Mayers, Verneta Sharperson, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., Brenda Kelly, of N. Miami, Fla., Lou Glover, of Orangeburg; brothers, Hercules Mayers, of Orangeburg and Lealather Mayers II, of Columbia; stepsons, Golie S. Augustus and Gary V. Augustus, both of Columbia; sister-in-law, Emma Odom, of Darlington; a host of nieces, nephews, two aunts, cousins and friends.

The family will be receiving friends at both 1640 Steadfast St., Columbia and 480 Sullens St., Orangeburg.

Memorials can be made to the Jones Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, or the Margaret H. Miller Cosmetology Center.

Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mario Nathaniel Funchess -- Goose Creek

Mr. Mario Nathaniel Funchess, 25 of 203 Main Ridge Court, Goose Creek, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral plans will be announced by Jenkins Funeral Home of Cameron.

Friends may call at the residence of his aunt, Cynthia "Ce-Ce" Mitchell, 970 Moorer Road, St. Matthews, or the funeral home.

Tyquan Tarrell Robinson -- Bamberg

Tyquan Tarrell Robinson, 16, of 54 Tadpole Court, Bamberg, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, in an auto accident in Orangeburg County.

Funeral plans will be announced by Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg.

Friends may call at the residence of his mother, Danita Robinson, 54 Tadpole Court, Bamberg.

Doris Seymore -- Brooklyn

Doris Seymore, 87, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Ehrhardt, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Interfaith Hospital of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Funeral services will be announced by the Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg.

Mrs. Brenda Williams -- Orangeburg

Mrs. Brenda Williams, 56, of 111 Waters St., Orangeburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence of her son Gregory Shaw, 111 Waters St., Orangeburg, or at Simmons Funeral Home.

Ms. Doris Seymore -- Brooklyn, N.Y.

The funeral service for Ms. Doris Seymore, 87, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Ehrhardt, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Friendship United Methodist Church in Ehrhardt. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Seymore died Sunday, Sept. 7, in St. John's Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y.

She was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Colleton County, a daughter to the late Hallie and Annie Glover Seymore. She attended and graduated from the public schools of South Carolina. Moving to New York City in 1954, she met and married the late Raymond Robinson. Doris was a member of The Episcopal Residence Church in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Survivors include one daughter, Geraldine Ann Seymore of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Rebecca Wright and Virginia Murdaugh, both of Ehrhardt; four brothers, Patrick Seymore of Bamberg, Benjamin Seymore of Jacksonville, Fla., Calhoun Seymore of Ehrhardt, Willard Seymore of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg is in charge of arrangements.

James Houser -- Orangeburg

The funeral for James Houser, 46, of 198 Halifax Circle, Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Andrew Chapel Baptist Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Donald E. Greene Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Houser died Friday, Sept. 12 at his residence following a brief illness.

Mr. Houser was born July 16, 1957, in Orangeburg County to Thomas Clay Houser Sr. and the late Mary Lee Berry Houser. At an early age he joined Andrew Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Houser was educated in the public schools of Bowman. He was employed at Kennemore Brothers, Orangeburg. He had also worked for Utica Tool and Electrolux Home Products.

He leaves to mourn a loving and devoted son, Detroy Houser of the home; a brother, Thomas Clay (Rosalee) Houser Jr.; a sister, Mary Elaine (Willie James) Riley; a grandson, James Detroy Houser Jr.; ex-wife, Catrean Kelly, all of Orangeburg; two nieces, Tonya Lanet Thompson, and Talisa Michelle Riley of Orangeburg; four nephews, Kelvin Clay Houser of Orangeburg; Ron LuClaire Houser of Monroe, N.C., Daniel Clayton Houser and Rashard Devron Riley, both of Orangeburg; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends; a dear and devoted friend, Alfunza Brooks.

Bethea's Funeral Home of Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call at the residence of his brother, Thomas Houser, 1316 Country Colony Drive, Orangeburg, and at the funeral home.

Lasasha Renee Richburg--Holly Hill

Miss Lasasha Renee Richburg, 20, of 438 Gavin Hall Court, Holly Hill, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Funeral plans will be announced by Eutawville Community Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Daisy Hutto Hightower -- Denmark

Daisy Hutto Hightower, 92, of Denmark, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003,, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at First Baptist Church of Denmark with the Rev. Andy Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Denmark cemetery.

Mrs. Hightower was born Aug. 30, 1911, in Bamberg County, a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Elizabeth Tant Hutto. She was the former owner of the Denmark Flower Shop for 25 years and was a resident of The Methodist Oaks. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Denmark.

Surviving are her husband, J. Harvey Hightower of The Methodist Oaks, Orangeburg; daughters, Dorothy Tatum of Bamberg, Lou Fogle of Orangeburg; sisters, Helen Rickborn of St. George, and Lola Mae Creech of Charleston; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family is at the home of Dorothy Tatum in Bamberg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Mercer Funeral Home of Denmark.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 325, Denmark SC 29042 or to a charity of one's choice.

Jack Dempsey -- Niceville, Fla.

Mr. Jack Dempsey died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, after a brief illness.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Heritage Gardens Chapel in Niceville, Fla., with Brent Smith presiding. His ashes will be placed with his wife of 49 years at Heritage Gardens.

He was the son of the late H. C. Dempsey Sr. and Alverda Folk Dempsey. He was born in Branchville and was a resident of Okaloosa County, Fla. for the past 40 years. He served his country during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Fay Dempsey.

He is survived by his son, Russell M. Dempsey; his wife and daughter by marriage, Jane S. Dempsey; his son, Derek S. Dempsey; his daughter, Terrilyn F. Roddy; grandson, Aaron D. Roddy; sisters, Villa Thompson and Melody Ethridge, both of Branchville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Ott Funeral Home of Branchville is in charge.

Mrs. Carol A. Turner -- Cordova

The funeral for Mrs. Carol A. Turner, 82, of 115 Terry St., Cordova, Cordova, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with the Rev. Jimmy Sanders, assisted by Rev. Stan Hughes. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Mrs. Turner died Sunday, Sept. 28 at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

Active pallbearers will be Lewis A. Wiles Jr., Bobby Neal, Thomas Kinsey, Steve McKeiver, Bobby Furtick and Johnny Furtick.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Cootie's Auxiliary and the Women's Auxiliary.

She was born May 9, 1921, in Orangeburg County, the daughter of the late Marvin Wiles and the late Semmie Rickenbaker Wiles. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the VFW Post #2779, past president, Voice of Democracy chairperson, member of the Military Order of the Cootie Auxiliary, Pup Tent #13, former Flag bearer MOCA Grand of S.C., first clown, MOCA P.T. #13. She was the widow of the late Raymond "Ray" Turner.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jackie (Jackie) Boltin of Cope; stepdaughter, Mrs. Zane (Charlotte) Kelley of Bunnell, Fla.; stepson, Dan Turner of La Porte, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Robert Wiles, Lewis Wiles, Fred Wiles, and Shuler Wiles, all of Orangeburg; two sisters, P. T. "Pearl" Dickerson of Elberton, Ga., Cecil "Jessie" Fogle of Swansea.

She will be missed and loved by many.

Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Boltin, 5595 Cannon Bridge Road in Cope Thompson Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville SC 29605-4277.

Mrs. Sarah B. Young -- St. Matthews

Funeral services for Sarah B. Young, 48, of 225 Stabler Farm Road in St. Matthews, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Bryce D. Jamison officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Young died Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was born in Orangeburg County on Aug. 30, 1955, the daughter of the late Eddie Sr. and Mary A. Brown Benjamin. At an early age, she joined Jones Chapel Baptist Church. She attended the public school of Calhoun County and later graduated from the public school system in Brooklyn, N.Y. Preceding her in death were one sister, Mrs. Martha A. Fields, and three brothers, Mr. Eddie Benjamin Jr., Mr. Freddie Benjamin and Mr. Nathaniel Benjamin.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, her husband, Larry M. Young; four step-children, Yolanda Dickerson of St. Matthews, Maranda Keller of Orangeburg, Latrisha Holmes of Augusta, Ga. and Craig Goodwine of Yonkers, N.Y.; six step-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth (JC) Edmond and Bertha L. Mosley, of St. Matthews; two brothers CJ (Leslie) Benjamin of Columbia and Robert (Theresa) Benjamin of Philadelphia; one mother-in-law; one father-in-law; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; five aunts; three uncles; nieces; nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Friends may call at the residence of her husband, Mr. Larry Young, at 225 Stabler Farm Road in St. Matthews or at Simmons Funeral Home in Orangeburg. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Azalee Russell -- Orangeburg

Mrs. Azalee Russell, 89, of 1241 Edisto Drive, Orangeburg, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Vance.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with Pastor Tommy Pearson officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, T. C. Russell, Freddie Felder, Chris Clamp, Paul Russell, Quinn Russell and Steward Russell.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Kersey, Junior Royal, Wayne Hughes, Larry Driggers, Charles Daniels and David Bochette.

Mrs. Russell was born Sept. 19, 1914, in Orangeburg County, the daughter of the late John Platt and the late Adline Muckenfus Platt. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Orangeburg. She was the widow of the late Drakard Russell. She was preceded in death by three sons, O. R. Russell, Waddell Russell and Ralph Donnie Russell.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Watts of Rincon, Ga., Dorothy Clamp of Little River, Sally Browning of Lakeland, Ga., Rosemary Spires of Vance; eight sons, Melvin Russell of Orangeburg, Darvis Russell of Bowman, Otis Russell of Anderson, Drake "D.R." Russell Jr. of Vance, Delvert Russell of Valdosta, Ga., Lawrence H. "L. H." Russell of Cope, Milton Russell of Orangeburg, Ray Russell of Springfield; 35 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Rosemary) Spires, 114 Overstreet Road, Vance, and at Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
