Elvenue Brown Waiters, 69, died Sunday, June 6, 2004.

Born Aug. 15, 1934, in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Wyatt Sr. and Francina Reid Brown. She was married to John C. Waiters. She was retired from Springs Memorial Hospital. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of Heath Springs; three daughters, Johnie Newan and her husband, Neal, of Jefferson, Iris Pringle and her husband, Richard, and Renee' Blackmon and her husband, Rufus Sr., both of Lancaster; three sons, Howard J. Waiters and his wife, Vanessa, of Fredicksburg, Va., Kenneth E. Waiters and his wife, Annie, of Lancaster and James L. Waiters and his wife, Cynthia, of Kitzingen, Germany; four sisters, Bernice Reid of Lancaster, Ella Crockett of Washington, D.C., Patricia Davis of Columbia and Wyscle Johnson of Oxen Hill, Md.; six brothers, Hedrick Brown, Wyatt Brown Jr., Eugene Brown and Francis Lloyd Brown all of Lancaster, Willie Lincoln Brown and Willie Arthur Brown, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kenny Wyndell Rose, with burial in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Stewart's Funeral Home, Heath Springs.

Lillie Mae Young, 95

Lillie Mae Young, 95, died Thursday, June 10, 2004.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Crawford Funeral Home.

Randolph Murray Hawksworth, 74

JEFFERSON - Randolph Murray Hawksworth, 74, died Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Born in Pemequid, Maine, he was the son of the late Murray Randolph and Minetta Sanford Hawksworth. He was married to Susan Bell Hawksworth. He was a U. S. Army retiree and a retired construction worker.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Dale R. Hawksworth and David Hawksworth and his wife, Jill, all of McBee; a stepson, Chad Faulkenberry and his wife, Bobbie, of Lancaster; a brother, James Hawksworth of Oxford, Maine; a sister, Phyllis Herric of Oxford; five grandchildren, Justin Hawksworth, Alicia Hawks- worth, Erin Hawksworth, Luke Faulkenberry and Jacob Faulkenberry.

Services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, Bus Fund, 3944 Johnson Road, Jefferson, SC 29718.

Edward Snipes, 81

Edward Snipes, 81, died Friday, July 30, 2004.

Born April 14, in Kershaw County, he was the son of the late Ed Snipes and Lillian Vincent Snipes. He was married to Helen Burns Snipes. He was a Springs Industries retiree.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles E. Snipes and his wife, Delores, and R. Wayne Snipes and his wife, Rhonda, all of Lancaster; a daughter, Dianne Snipes and her husband, Larry, of Lancastre; two brothers, Tom Snipes and Bruce Snipes, both of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Scott Reeves, Kayla Snipes, Melissa Rathburn, Leslie Snipes and Charles Snipes Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Michael Reeves, Stephanie Snipes, Courtney England and Wayne Rathburn.

Services will be 3 p.m. today at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tim Larrimore, Jessie Adams and Wayne Snipes, with burial in Lancaster Memorial Park.

Dorothea Vinson Bentley, 47

CHARLOTTE - Dorothea Vinson Bentley, 47, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004.

Born Sept. 18, 1957, in Waxhaw, she was the daughter of Mary White Vinson and the late James Vinson. She was married to Danny L. Bentley. She was employed at Plantation Estates Retirement Community.

Survivors include her husband; her mother; six sisters, Safronia Grier, Cornelia Vinson and Libby Vinson, all of Lancaster, Barbara Purcell of Emporia, Va., and Tammy Rushing and Tonya Rushing, both of Raleigh, N.C.; four brothers, Leonard Vinson and Mitchell Vinson, both of Lancaster, James Vinson Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Robert Vinson of Newport, Va.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Monroe Full Gospel Ministry in Monroe, conducted by Pastor Sharon Tucker, with burial in Lancaster Memorial Park.

Annette Polk Deese, 59

ROCK HILL - Annette Polk Deese, 59, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004.

She was the daughter of the late John L. Polk Sr. and the late Alma Price Polk. She was married to Billie E. Deese.

She was a former clerk at Party World Convenience Store and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Gina Deese Brazzill and Lisa Deese, both of Rock Hill; three brothers, John L. "Sonny" Polk Jr. and Ronald Wayne "Wooger" Polk , both of Rock Hill, and Michael Ray Polk of York; two sisters, Renee Gibson of Easley and Candie Totherow of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Matthew Deese, Ashley Brazzill and Emily Deese.

Services will be private.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at 131 Pride St., Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of South Carolina, Upstate Region, 11 Brendan Way, B-2, Greenville, SC 29615.

Thomas Edward Hanson, 53

Thomas Edward Hanson, 53, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004.

Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of Marguerite Blackmon Hanson and the late Thomas J. Hanson. He was married to Althea Baker Hanson.

He was a Springs Industries retiree.

He attended the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; a daughter, Carrie Hanson of Lancaster; a stepson, John K. Faulkenberry of Lancaster; a brother, Kenneth D. Hanson of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Church of God of Prophecy, conducted by the Revs. Brian King and Ted Tinker, with burial in Lancaster Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Faith Christian School, 4695 J.B. Denton Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Sadie Davis King, 91

WADESBORO, N.C. - Sadie Davis King, 91, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004.

Born June 4, 1913, in Stanley County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late James Jackson and Lottie Mae Maner Davis. She was married to Walter King.

A former Lancaster resident, she was a homemaker, a graduate of Wadesboro High School and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Pines Davis and Eddie Davis; and three sisters, Kate Davis, Jennie Lee Davis and Mattie Davis.

Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. today at Eastview cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Rob Rollins.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lancaster, 200 W. Gay Street, Lancaster, SC 29720; or to the First United Methodist Church of Wadesboro, 118 E. Morgan Street, Wadesboro, NC 28170.

Roy Adelbert 'Chalk' Patton, 89

FORT LAWN - Roy Adelbert "Chalk" Patton, 89, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004.

Born July 31, 1915, in Nelsonville, Ohio, he was the son of the late William A. and Alma Linn Patton.

He was a graduate of Nelsonville High School and a retired crew supervisor with the Ohio Power and Electric Co. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his sister, Ruth Leaman of Newark, Ohio.

Services and interment will be in Nelsonville, Ohio.

Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

John Houston Hill II, 78

John Houston Hill, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004.

Born June 30, 1926, in Shanghai, China, he was the son of the late Col. Kenneth F. and Renee' Prawl Hill. A 1970 U.S. Army Major retiree, he served in three wars - World War II, and Korea and Vietnam. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was an instructor of military subjects at West Point Military Academy He attended a number of colleges including Colgate University, University of San Francisco, Humboldt State College, College of Redwoods and the University of South Carolina. He was a retired history teacher with the Lancaster and Chester school districts.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 31, where he had served as historian and commander. He was also a member of VFW Post No. 5936 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution chapter in Philadelphia, a fellow of the Company of Military Historians and a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Survivors include a son, Jonathan Bruce Hill of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Jennifer Hill Jordan of Canada; and three grandchildren, Jared Hill, Amanda Hill and Stephanie Hill.

He was preceded in death by two sons, John H. Hill III and Anthony Wayne Hill.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 3 at Christ Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Fr. William Walters. Burial with full military honors will be 1 p.m. Dec. 29 at Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post No. 31, P.O. Box 33, Lancaster, SC 29721; or Christ Episcopal Church, 534 Plantation Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Mamie Brown Taylor

Mamie Brown Taylor died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004.

Born Dec. 15, 1919, in Kershaw County, she was married to the late James Taylor Sr. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Waxhaw.

Survivors include seven daughters, Betty Brown and Remelle Stinson, both of the home, Frances Morrison, Bishop Mamie Wilson and her husband, Joe, all of Lancaster, Sally Foster and her husband, William, all of Kershaw, Pearl Tillman of Waxhaw, and Janie McKinney and her husband, Willie, of Indian Trail, N.C.; three sons, Furman Brown and his wife, Evelyn, of Monroe, Curtis Taylor and his wife, Patricia, Richard Taylor and his wife, Patricia, of Lancaster; 43 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, James Taylor and Joe Samuel Taylor; and two brothers, Belton Brown and Matthew Brown.

Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Waxhaw, conducted by Pastor Jacob Chisholm III, with burial in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Resurrection of Life Church, 311 W. Gay St.,Lancaster.
