Ben Ray Horne, 77

Ben Ray Horne, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005.

Born Nov. 23, 1927, in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Harvey Curtis and Dora Hunter Horne McKeown. He was married to the late Gwendolyn Elliott Horne. He retired from Springs Industries Grace Bleachery as superintendent of the packing department. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Horne McNaughton of Lancaster; three sons, Donald E. Horne and his wife, Linda, Jeffrey C. Horne and his wife, Tammy, all of Lancaster, and Richard K. Horne and his wife, Michelle, of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Harold C. Horne of Mint Hill, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Mosier, Eron Watts, Blair McNaughton, Donna Horne, Jason Horne, Jared Horne, Jenna Horne, Lauren Horne, Thomas Horne and Kelly Horne; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Rob O'Neal and Roy Barnes, with burial in Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home.

Joseph Poston 'Paw Paw' Huntley, 98

MONROE - Joseph Poston "Paw Paw" Huntley, 98, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005.

Born Sept. 29, 1906, in Bishopville, he was the son of the late William Edward and Bertha Reynolds Huntley. He was married to the late Bonie Mulbia Huntley. He was a lifelong member of Shiloh True Light Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, W. Theron Huntley of Monroe, Cletus E. Huntley and his wife, Lib, and R. Terry Huntley, all of Charlotte; seven daughters, Alma H. Lee, Mildred H. McGee and her husband, Sam, all of Charlotte, Gladys H. McGee and her husband, Don, of Monroe, Enid H. Watkins of Bishopville, Carol H. Braswell of Indian Trail, N.C., and Anne H. York and her husband, David, of Marshville, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Law Huntley of Charlotte; a brother, Harvey L. Huntley of Charlotte; four sisters, Myrtle H. Wolfe of Orangeburg, Melba H. Hancock of Rockville, Reba H. Helms of Charlotte, Myra H. Coates of Kershaw; 60 grandchildren; and 160 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph DeWayne Huntley and Clyde M. Huntley.

Services were held Sunday at Shiloh True Light Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Mike McGee, with burial in Mint Hill True Light Church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh True Light Church of Christ, 8614 True Light Church Road, Charlotte, NC 29227.

Gianna Muller, Julian Muller

Gianna Muller and Julian Muller, newborn twins, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2005. They were the son and daughter of Andres Roberto "Andy" and Sonya Renee Rape.

Survivors include their parents; a sister, Sofia Muller of Carmel, N.Y.; maternal grandparents, Richard H. and Sylvia F. Rape of Lancaster; paternal grandparents, Luis Muller and Ana Maria Vallendor of Argentina; godmother, Andrea G. Moss of Augusta, Ga.; and godfather, Carlos Muller of Argentina.

Private graveside services were held Saturday at High Point Baptist Church cemetery.

Mahaffey Funeral Home was in charge.

Paul Lewellyn Smith, 80

Paul Lewellyn Smith, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005.

Born Oct. 27, 1924, in Fairmont, W. Va., he was the son of the late W. Rex and Dana Cochran Smith. He was married to Donna Jean Layman Smith. He was a member of Lancaster Moose Lodge and LaFayette Masonic Lodge No. 41 in Manchester, N.H. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II and was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Pamela Kay Smith of Laurel, Md., Michelle Cassidy Smith of Tampa, Fla., Kimberly Dawn Casella of Orlando, Fla., and Karry Ann Radich and her husband, Scott, of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Barbara Clinger of Conway and Priscilla Smith of Leesburg, Va.; and six grandchildren, Melanie Diggs, Shanda Casella, Brandy Casella, Roth Casella, Sara Radich and Amanda Radich.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksburg, W.Va., with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Quiet Dell, W.Va.

Hartley Funeral Home is in charge.

Addie Mae Young Blackwell

Addie Mae Young Blackwell died Friday, April 7, 2006.

Born Sept. 10, 1919, she was the daughter of the late A.C. and Ola Young. She was married to the late Ray Elbert Blackwell. She was a Springs Industries retiree and a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Steele and her husband, Richard, of Lancaster and Velvet Slover and her husband, Bill, of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren, Kelly Rourk, Tracy Hudson, the Rev. Bliss Steele, April Bennett and Claire Slover; seven great-grandchildren, Jimmy Rourk, Jonah Rourk, Sara Grace Hudson, Sally Hudson, Little Bliss Steele III, Tyler Bennett and Collin Bennett; three sisters, Louise Spruill of Lexington, N.C., Eloise Taylor of Augusta, Ga., and Doris Hunter of Kershaw.

She was preceded in death by a brother, A.C. Young; and a sister, Nell Mood.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bliss Steele, with burial in Lancaster Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lancaster, 902 W. Meeting St., Suite A, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Charles B. 'Charlie' Rivers Jr., 56

Charles B. "Charlie" Rivers Jr., 56, died Friday, April 7, 2006.

Born July 23, 1949, in Lancaster County, he was the son of Annie Stevens Rivers and the late Charles B. Rivers Sr. He was married to Debbie Driggers Rivers. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired major in the National Guard, a retired police captain, a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a local business owner. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Jackson Shrine Club and a past governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose.

Survivors include his wife of the home, his mother of Lancaster, two sons, Charles B. "Chucky" Rivers III and his, wife, Dustee, and Chad Rivers, all of Lancaster; three daughters, Paula Rivers, Samantha Hall and her husband, Chris, all of Lancaster, and Jodie Clark of Rock Hill, four grandchildren, Gab-rielle Rivers, Madeline Rivers, Kayla Hall and Dylan Hall; a brother, Kenneth Rivers; and three sisters, Peggy Flynn, Lois Eargle and Tammy Poston, all of Lancaster.

Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Second Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Jim Spencer and the Rev. Don Waldrop. Burial with full military rites will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

George Franklin Byrd Sr., 95

George Franklin Byrd Sr., 95, died Saturday, April 22, 2006.

Born May 26, 1911, he was the son of the late Charlie Willie and Lizzie Morgan Byrd. He was married to the late Ada Mae Roberts Byrd. He was the former owner and operator of 11th Street Grocery and a member of Pleasant Plain Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Gene Byrd of Lafayette, La., and Franklin Byrd of Lancaster; a daughter, Glendora Smith of Lafayette; two brothers, Johnny Byrd of Pageland and Melvin Byrd of Camden; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at Pleasant Plain Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thurmond Johnson, with burial in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Plain Baptist Church, 3777 Pleasant Plains Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Fred Lesser Campbell Jr., 90

GREAT FALLS - Fred Lesser Campbell Jr., 90, died Saturday, April 22, 2006.

Born April 25, 1915, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Fred L. Campbell Sr. and the late Nettie Heaton Campbell. He was married to Margaret "Margie" Willard Campbell. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II, who was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a 1932 graduate and valedictorian of Great Falls High School. He was a retired cost accountant with Springs Industries and J.P. Stevens Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of deacons, Sunday school superintendent and teacher.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jeffrey Campbell and his wife, Wanda, of Camden; Timothy "Tim" Campbell and his wife, Jan, of Columbia, David Campbell and his wife, Gale, of Lake Wylie and Philip Campbell and his wife, Betty of Lincolnton, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Brent Campbell, Katherine Campbell, Rachel Campbell, Kim Campbell, Kelly Foster, Anna Campbell, Faith Campbell, Christa Campbell, Ashley Dragon and Wesley Stanton.

Services were Tuesday at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Greg Batchelor and Marion Dry, with burial in Greenlawn cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 606 Dearborn Street, Great Falls, SC 29055.

Richard Lamar Horton, 47

SHAWNEE, OKLA. - Richard Lamar Horton, 47, died Sunday, April 16, 2006.

Born May 14, 1958, in Louisville, Ky., he was the son of Peggy Ann Small Horton and the late Dr. William Lamar Horton. He completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in health science technology. He taught and worked for 25 years in emergency medical services and health science technology. He was a pilot and flight paramedic and certified fire instructor.

Survivors include his mother of Lancaster; two brothers, Ronald Horton of Beijing, China, and Randy Horton of Brandon, Fla.; and a sister, Julie-Anne Horton of New York City.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Luther and Ruth Horton and Nadie and Robert Small.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with burial in Laurelwood cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Furman University, Horton Music Scholarship, 3300 Poinsett Highway, Green-ville, SC 29613.

Lloyd Cecil 'Gabby' Hunter, 81

KERSHAW - Lloyd Cecil "Gabby" Hunter, 81, died Monday, April 24, 2006.

Born Jan. 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Jim and Pearlie Knight Hunter. He was married to the late Lillie Rollins Hunter. He was a retired truck driver for Standard Warehouse and a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, James Cecil "Jimmy" Hunter and Jackie Lloyd Hunter, both of Kershaw; two sisters, Eloise H. Rabon and Joline H. Wooten, both of Kershaw; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw chapel, conducted by the Revs. Chad Ivester and Patrick Minihane, with burial in the Kershaw City cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of James "Jimmy" Hunter, 4732 Haile Goldmine Road, Kershaw.

Memorials may be made to Sand Hill Baptist Church, 6895 Highway 341, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Gladys Azalee Wright Kersey, 87, died Saturday, April 22, 2006.

Born Jan. 6, 1919, in Jefferson, she was the daughter of the late Dwight Thompson Wright and the late Levy Watts Wright. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, David Kersey, Troy Kersey and Wayne Kersey and his wife, Faye, all of Lancaster; two brothers, Wade Wright and Arthur Wright, both of Lancaster; a sister, Mary "Sweetie" Melton of Kershaw; seven grandchildren, Laura Beckham, Mike Kersey, Clayton Kersey, Dabo Kersey, Freddie Kersey, Teddie Kersey and Stacy Bryson; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Antioch Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Pat Minihane and Chris Blackmon, with burial in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, building fund, 3052 Antioch Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
