Mr. Douglas Marcellus Wilson

LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Douglas Marcellus Wilson, age 79, of 6603 Griffin Road, died Monday, February 18, 2008 at his home. He was born November 18, 1928 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Robert Marcellus Wilson and Beulah Lee Griffin Wilson was the husband of Peggy Roddey Wilson. Mr. Wilson graduated from Indian Land High School and retired from Springs Industries – Grace Bleachery. He was a member of Belair United Methodist Church, previously served as Scout Master, and served our great country in the United States Army in the Korean War.

Mr. Wilson was survived by his wife, Peggy Roddey Wilson of the home, 2 sons, Tim Wilson and his wife Angie of Lancaster and Randy Wilson and his wife Lisa of McDonough, Ga., 2 daughters, Phyllis Patton and her husband Robert of Lancaster and Kathy Wilson and her fiancé Dale Jordan of Lancaster, 3 brothers, Robert Daniel Wilson, Olin S. Wilson, and Luther A. Wilson all of Lancaster, 3 sisters, Nancy Lee Tillman of Lancaster, Helen Davis of Fort Mill, and Elizabeth Brown of Monroe, NC, 5 grandchildren, Robb Patton and his wife Mitzi of Lincolnton, NC, Jared K. Wilson and fiance’ Stephanie Creech, Matt T. Wilson of Lancaster, and Alyssa Riley Wilson of McDonough, GA, and 1 great granddaughter, Kristin Patton of Lincolnton, NC.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a grandson, Steve Patton and a brother, Jesse L. Wilson.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Wilson will be 3:00 pm, Thursday afternoon, February 20, 2008 at Belair United Methodist Church by Rev. Tony Adams. Burial will be private.

The Family of Mr. Wilson will receive friends at the church immediately following the service and at other times at the home, 6603 Griffin Road, and suggest memorial contributions be made to Belair United Methodist Church Building Fund, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, Fort Mill, SC 29707 or Agape Hospice, 2155 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Mr. Joey Michael Langley

LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Joey Michael Langley, age 43, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born November 9, 1967 in Lancaster County, the son of Nancy Hayes Langley and the late Robert Michael Langley and was the husband of Crystal Bowers Langley. Mr. Langley was a retired car salesman and of the Presbyterian Faith.

Mr. Langley is survived by his mother, Nancy Hayes Langley of Lancaster, his wife Crystal Bowers Langley, a son Jeremy Michael Langley, and a daughter Briana Ashley Langley all of Lancaster.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Dickson officiating. It was Mr. Langley’s request that he be cremated.

Mr. Langley was preceded in death by his grandparents Dillon and Helen Hayes and Joe and Kate Williams.

The Family of Mr. Langley will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, May 02, 2011 at Hartley Funeral Home. The family will be meeting at the home of Nancy Hayes Langley 879 Wisteria Way, Lancaster SC, 29720.

LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Azilee “Tootsie” Sowell Workman, age 83, of 660 Faith Street died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born April 1, 1928 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late Ernest Clifton Sowell and Dicie Ann Gardner Sowell and was the wife of the late William Richard Workman. Mrs. Workman retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church.

Mrs. Workman is survived by 2 sons, Eddie Workman and his wife Suzane and Tony Workman and his wife Denise both of Lancaster, 2 brothers, Paul Sowell of Lancaster and Jim Sowell of Heath Springs, 4 sisters, Nell Martin of Lancaster, Maxine Roberts of Kershaw, Ann Knight of Stanley, NC and Molly Wallace of Lancaster, 4 grandchildren Jason Workman and his wife Kary, Erica Joefreda and her husband Todd, Kenny Workman and Chery Workman, and a great granddaughter, Addison Workman.

Mrs. Workman was preceded in death by a son, Barry Workman, a brother, Curtis Sowell, and 2 sisters, Eva Turner and Kathleen Adams.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Workman will be 3:00 pm Friday, May 20, 2011 at The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home by Rev. Dr. Darrell Thompson. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Claude "C.B." Mathis
(October 16, 1944 - May 25, 2011)
LANCASTER, SC: - Mr. Claude “C.B.” Bailey Mathis, age 66, of 965 Sherwood Circle died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at his home. He was born October 16, 1944 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Cecil Lawton Mathis and Mildred Bailey Mathis and was the husband of Carolyn Pendergrass Mathis. Mr. Mathis was the founder of CB’s Limited and Owner and Operator of C.O.R.E. Realty with Tim Martin and was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.

Mr. Mathis is survived by wife, Carolyn Pendergrass Mathis of the home, a son, Craig Mathis and his wife April of Lancaster, a daughter, Crista M. Blackmon and her husband Roger “Buck” Blackmon, Jr. of Lancaster, a brother, Charles Mathis and his wife Shirley, 2 sisters, Carolyn M. Wright and her husband Billy and Deborah M. Gamble and her husband Ken all of Lancaster, 3 grandchildren; Carson Blackmon, Clay and Hannah Mathis.

Derik Miller
(October 1, 1992 - May 7, 2011)
INDIAN LAND, SC - Mr. Derik Justin Miller, age 18, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Carolina Medical Center – Union due to an automobile accident. He was born October 1, 1992 in Rock Hill, the son of Paul L. Miller and Rebecca “Becky” McClain Miller. Mr. Miller was a Senior at Indian Land High School, a member of the CCI Car Club and on the Drumline with the Marching Band.

Derik is survived by his parents, Paul and Becky Miller of the home, a sister, Jordan Miller, paternal grandparents, Judy and Jim Miller of Rock Hill, his aunt, Gayla Sutton and her husband Scott and a cousin, Aaron Sutton of Indian Land, and his aunt Lesley Miller Courtney and his cousin Alex.

LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Jackie “Tex” Hilliard, age 66, of 1587 Pageland Hwy., died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born January 30, 1945 in Belton, TX the son of the late Harvey B. Hilliard and Evelyn Reynold Hilliard and was the husband of Judy Boone Hilliard. Mr. Hilliard was a retired auto mechanic, of the Pentecostal Faith and served our great country in the US Army.

Mr. Hilliard is survived by his wife, Judy B. Hilliard of the home, 2 sons, Jimmy Hilliard and Michael Hilliard both of Lancaster, a brother, Fred Hilliard of Magnolia, TX, 2 sisters, Joyce Woods of Magnolia, TX and Nelda Patschke of Temple, TX, and 6 grandchildren; Summer Bowers Hilliard, Clayton Hilliard, Adrian Eller, Kayson Hilliard, Michelle Hilliard, and Jackson Hilliard. (January 18, 1922 - May 7, 2011)
LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Earlene Caskey Plyler, age 89, died Saturday, May 07, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born January 18, 1922 in York County, the daughter of the late John Edgar Caskey and Sally Beckham Caskey and was the wife of the late Pinkney “PA” Plyler. Mrs. Plyler was a retired cafeteria worker for Buford Schools and a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Plyler is survived by 3 sons, Barry Lynn Plyler and his wife Gail of Omaha, NE, Ronnie Plyler and his wife Cheri of Lancaster and Mark Jewett and his wife Robin of Lancaster, 2 daughters, Freida P. Baskins and her husband Jerry of Fort Mill, and Delta P. Watson and her husband Gary of Lancaster, a sister, Imogene Berry of Lancaster, 7 grandchildren; Angela P. Dumont, Brian Plyler, Jana Hough, Drewid Plyler, Erin Watson, Nick Watson, and Hope Jewett, and 2 great grandchildren; Christian and Jared Dumont.

Mrs. Plyler was preceded by 2 brothers, James Caskey and Cecil Caskey, 3 sisters, Maxine Blackmon, Dorothy Caskey, and Sybil Barker, a grandchild, Andrew Bert Watson and a great grandchild, Trevor Dumont.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Plyler will be 3:00 pm Monday, May 9, 2011 at Hopewell United Methodist Church by Rev. Steve Patterson and Rev. Wayne Dickson with burial in the church cemetery.

Olive Williams
(August 17, 1927 - May 10, 2011)
LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Olive Newell Williams, age 83, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center. She was born August 17, 1927 in Union County, NC, the daughter of the late William Ernest Newell and Wilma Irene Helms Newell and was the wife of the late Charles “Charlie” Williams. Mrs. Williams was homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Williams is survived by a son, Jevan Williams of Lancaster, 3 daughters, Tanya Williams of Lancaster, Gilda Williams Dalton of Lancaster, and Lori Williams of Hartsville, 3 grandchildren; Joel Dalton, Nicholas Dalton and Haley Reeves, and 2 sisters, Geneva Gordon of Waxhaw, NC and Grace Belk of Mint Hill, NC.

Mrs. Williams was preceded by 2 brothers, W.E. Newell and Howard Newell, and 2 sisters, Edith Watkins and Nannie Lee Kilpatrick.

Harley Dokota Manus
(March 2, 1998 - May 24, 2011)
LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Harley Dokota Manus, age 13, of 1100 West Shore Drive, died May 24, 2011 at his home. He was born March 2, 1998 in Rock Hill, SC the son of Darryl Manus and Donna Catoe Manus. Harley was a 7th grade student at A.R. Rucker Middle School, loved fishing, his computer, spending time with his family and friends and of the Baptist Faith.

Harley is survived by his parents, Darryl and Donna Manus of the home, his maternal grandparents, Barbara Joanne and Larry Catoe of Lancaster, 3 aunts; Angela Joy Catoe, Kay Stacks and Libby Manus, an uncle, Mike Manus, his cousins, Ginger Paige Catoe, Dylan Clark Catoe, Christie Manus, Jeff and Timmy Stacks and Amanda Simpson, his special friends the Ables Family and his beloved dog, Bubba.

Harley was preceded by his paternal grandparents, Rachel and Hambone Manus.

LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Philip Winston “Winky” Barrineau, age 60, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born August 24, 1950 in Lancaster County, the son of Algie D. “Tuby” Barrineau and Peggy Sinclair Barrineau. Mr. Barrineau was a retired computer programmer, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, an Eagle Scout and served our great country in the Army National Guard.

Mr. Barrineau is survived by his parents, “Tuby” and Peggy Barrineau of Lancaster, 3 daughters, Mary Kathryn Barrineau of Tega Cay, Esther Lorraine O’Brien of Virginia Beach, VA, and Elisabeth Leanne Scaccia of New York, NY, 2 brothers, Rusty Barrineau of Lancaster, and Richard Barrineau of Texas, and 3 grandchildren; Alexandria, Shayne and Kennedy O’Brien.

The Family of Mr. Barrineau will host a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 2:00 pm Monday, May 2, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Hudson officiating.

Corbett Carnes
(March 23, 1912 - May 12, 2011)
LANCASTER, SC: - Mr. Corbett Carnes, age 99, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born March 23, 1912 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Simeon Butler Carnes and Dezzie Esther Funderburk Carnes and was the husband of the late Lessie Rape Carnes. Mr. Carnes was a graduate of Buford High School, Mars Hill College and the University of South Carolina. He was a life long educator and farmer. He retired in 1973 after 38 years of teaching. In 2001, he was conferred the Order of the Silver Crest by then Governor Jim Hodges for his lifetime of accomplishments that benefited area students. He helped shape the lives of countless students by instilling strong values and the importance of education. At the beginning of his career in 1935, he was called upon to fill many positions in the Oak Hill community, from teacher and principal to superintendent, from janitor to doctor. The common element in these positions was a strong desire to help young students achieve their fullest potential. Long after he retired, he remained active in the community and was a familiar presence in the Buford area schools. Mr. Carnes was a life long member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir and served as a deacon for 55 years. He was a member of Wanamaker Masonic Lodge and received his 60 year pin in 2008.

Mr. Carnes is survived by 2 daughters, Ramona Hicks of Lancaster and Joye Cauthen and her husband Larry of Matthews, 4 grandchildren; Kimberly Garner, Dana Shull, Christopher Cauthen and Nicole Hicks Battle, and 8 great grandchildren.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Carnes will be 11:00 am, Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Springhill Baptist Church by Rev. Brad Threatt and Rev. Bennie Barwick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Family of Mr. Carnes will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, May 13, 2011 at Hartley Funeral Home and the family suggests memorials to Springhill Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2245 Old Camden Monroe Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29270.

Edwina Rape
(May 13, 1932 - September 12, 2011)
LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Edwina Morgan Rape, age 79, died Monday, September 12, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born May 13, 1932 in Chester County, the daughter of the late Townly Morgan and Ida Gladden Morris and was the wife of the late Melvin Thomas Rape. Mrs. Rape retired from JP Stevens and Chester County Council of Aging and was member of First Baptist Church in Great Falls.

Mrs. Rape is survived by a daughter Robyn Rape Blackmon and her husband Scott of Lancaster, a sister, Juanita “Priss” Scott of New Market, VA and 2 grandchildren; Morgan and Mallory Blackmon.

Mrs. Rape was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Geraldine Gregory and Bobbie Hunter.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Rape will be 4:00 pm Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn cemetery in Great Falls.

The Family of Mrs. Rape will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 pm Wednesday and suggests memorials to White Oak Manor, 253 Craig Manor Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Robert Cannon
(June 15, 1966 - August 29, 2011)
FORT MILL, SC - Mr. Robert Kenneth Cannon, age 45, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at his home. He was born June 15, 1966 in Chelsea, MA, the son of Margaret Mary Berube Cannon. Mr. Cannon worked for Pools Restoration Company and was a member of Fort Mill Church of God.

Mr. Cannon is survived by his mother, Margaret Mary Cannon of Fort Mill, a brother, Steve Cannon, and 2 sisters, Christine King of Charlotte and Terri Stewart of Cornelius.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Nay Blackwell
(October 1, 1918 - September 16, 2011)
LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Nay Blackwell, age 92, of 3550 Flat Creek Road died Friday evening at his home. He was born in Lancaster County, October 1, 1918, a son of William Beaufort Blackwell and Faye McNeely Blackwell and was married to the late I. V. West Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell retired from Springs Industries Grace Bleachery, served our great country in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mr. Blackwell is survived by a son; Gerald M. Blackwell and his wife Elizabeth of Cornelius, NC, 3 daughters; Nancy B. Hinson and her husband William of Columbia, Wanda B. White and her husband Gerald of Lancaster, and Renee Blackwell of Greenwood SC, a brother, Clyde Blackwell of Lancaster, 5 Sisters, Ottie Stogner, Edith Threatt and Bronna Ackerman all of Lancaster, Bennie Blume of Charlotte and Kerried Miller of New Hampshire, 8 grandchildren; Angela Roller, Shawn Helms, Butch Blackwell, Jill Lantz, Stephen White, Robin White, Billy Hinson and Brian Hinson and 12 great grandchildren.

Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Blackwell and a sister, Myrtis Laney.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Blackwell will be 3:00 pm, Sunday September 18, 2011 at Antioch Baptist Church by Rev. Trent McLaughlin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Family of Mr. Blackwell will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship center and suggests memorial contributions be made to Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund. 3052 Taxahaw Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
