Lee Alan Gaunt
Travelers Rest

Lee Alan Gaunt, 43, of 56 Boulder Crest Court, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Delaware, he was the son of Leighton and Janice Guest Gaunt. Mr. Gaunt was a veteran of the U.S. Navy; employed with BMW Manufacturing Corporation as a production associate and was a member of Enoree Baptist Church, where he was active in the Celebration Choir.

Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Stacey Bayne Gaunt of the home; a son, Brandon Alan Gaunt of the home; a sister, Leeanna Gaunt of Greenville; and a brother, Larry Gaunt of Greenville.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Enoree Baptist Church. Burial will be private.

The family will be at the home.

Memorials may be made to Enoree Baptist Church Choir, 881 Tigerville Road, Travelers Rest, SC 29690 and/or The Blue Ridge High School Marching Band, 2151 Fews Chapel Road, Greer, SC 29651.

Elizabeth H. Horton
Flat Rock, N.C.

Elizabeth Harrison Horton, 92, formerly of Flat Rock, N.C., went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2006, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Hendersonville, N.C., after a period of declining health.

Born in Union Springs, Ala., on Aug. 17, 1913, Betty was raised along with her three sisters in Liberty, S.C. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, N.C., for one year before moving to New York City to attend the School of Nursing at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was graduated from Mount Sinai in 1933 and passed the boards to become a registered nurse. In October of 1936, she married James Robert Horton of Clinton, S.C., who was employed by Western Union Telegraph and Telephone in New York City. They had four sons together and eventually settled in Chatham, N.J. James Horton preceded her in death in 1964. In 1967 she moved with her youngest son to Flat Rock, N.C. Keeping her nursing skills in good use, Betty was involved with the Red Cross as a volunteer for many years. In addition, she delivered for Meals on Wheels and also served as an on-call counselor for Trend Mental Health hotline.

Betty will be remembered for her love for and dedication to her children and grandchildren. She will also be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, which, even in her illness, she kept until the end. She was of the Presbyterian faith and loved the Lord and His Word. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Betty is survived by her four sons, James Robert Horton Jr. and wife, Anne Spangler Horton, of New York City, N.Y., William Harrison Horton and wife, Linda Diefenthaler Horton, of Peapack, N.J., Geoffrey Channing Horton and wife, Elizabeth Marot Horton, of Vienna, Va., and John Hampton Horton and wife, Kimberly Barnette Horton, of Hendersonville, N.C. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Horton of New Brunswick, N.J.; and three grandsons, Joshua Lawrence Horton of Columbia, S.C., James Hampton Horton of Hendersonville, N.C., and Ian Campbell Horton of Hendersonville, N.C. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Julia Jean Woodson of Liberty, S.C.

Services will be held at Liberty Presbyterian Church in Liberty, S.C., on Friday, May 19, 2006, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Liberty Mortuary. Graveside service and interment will be in Westview cemetery. Following the services, the family will receive visitors at the home of Julia Jean Woodson, 326 West Main St., Liberty, S.C.

John Randall Meeks
Landrum

John "Randy" Randall Meeks, 49, of 1320 Pleasant Hill Road, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Mildred Clark Meeks of Piedmont and the late William C. Meeks.

Mr. Meeks was employed with Greenville Journal and was a member of Set Free Christian Fellowship.

Surviving are his wife, Pamela Knawhaw Meeks of the home; a stepdaughter, Terrah Rollins of Simpsonville; a stepson, Joshua Rollins of Helen, Ga.; a brother, Wayne Meeks of Moore; a niece, Heather Meeks of Pelzer; a nephew, Neil Meeks of Pelzer; and two grandsons, Sebastion Rollins and Andrew Rollins, both of Helen, Ga.

Visitation will be held this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

Services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Set Free Christian Fellowship. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Herman Arnold Ridley
Greenville

Herman Arnold Ridley, 80, of 118 Larosa Lane, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006.

Survivors: a son, Rodney Herman Ridley of Mountain Rest; daughters, Sue Woodall of Walhalla and Myra Keith of Greenville; a sister, Ovaline Wilson of Atlanta, Ga.; and a grandson, Daniel Everett Sollinger. Predeceased: a son, Steven A. Ridley; parents, Silas M. and India M. Ridley; five brothers; and six sisters.

Service: 2 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2006, at Davenport Funeral Chapel. Burial: Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 18, 2006, at the funeral home.

The family is at their respective homes.

Stacy F. Scarborough
Greer

Stacy Fortner Scarborough, 34, of 308 N. Rutherford Road, died Monday, May 15, 2006.

Born Jan. 14, 1972, in Greenville, S.C., she was the daughter of Michael and Shirley Fortner.

A 1989 graduate of Berea High School, she was also a graduate of the LNP School of Nursing at Greenville Tech. Prior to her disability, she was employed with the South Carolina Lions Bank and also Greenville Memorial Hospital.

No one ever loved fishing more than Stacy.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, Richard Harold and Mildred C. Fortner; and by a cousin, John Manent.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her sister, Kelly Rhinehart and her husband, Kevin, and their son, Nathan; and her other love, her puppy, "Bogey."

Services will be conducted Friday, May 19, 2006, at 11 a.m. at The Mackey Mortuary, with Rev. Mickey Gambrell officiating. Entombment will follow in Serenity Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the mortuary.

Tommye R. Townsend
Easley

Tommye Elrod Reeve Townsend, 100, of 738 East Main St., died, Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at her residence.

Mrs. Townsend was born in Seneca, a daughter of the late Thomas Martin and Mary Elizabeth Malone Elrod.

She was owner and operator of the former Reeves Funeral Home in Easley, owner and operator of Reeves Furniture Stores in Easley and Central, and was a former school teacher. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Easley.

Surviving are a daughter, Anne R. Hilyer of Easley; grandchildren, Joan Hilyer Phelps and husband, Barry, of Easley, William Britt Hilyer and wife, Susan, of Pickens and Sherry Hilyer Briggs and husband, Ron, of Bellevue, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Joseph Bush, Hilery Hennessee and husband, Brad, Zach Hilyer and wife, Lori, and West Hilyer; and great-great-grandchildren, Harris and Margot Hilyer. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two husbands, Clarence Samuel Reeve and John Robert "Bob" Townsend; brothers, Henry and Victor Elrod; sisters, Beulah Abbott, Ruby Smith and Ludie Dockery; a son-in-law, William Joseph Hilyer; and a life-long friend, Margaret Virginia "Gee Gee" West.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Easley, with Reverend Dr. John Adams and Reverend Tony Kobukowski officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Friday at the church, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 East First Ave., Easley, SC 29640; or to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 900 East Main St., Suite E, Easley, SC 29640.

John Stuart Weston
Marathon, Fla.

John Stuart Weston, 50, of Marathon, Fla., died Sunday, May 14, 2006, in South Miami Hospital after surgery for glioblastoma multiforme, a malignant brain tumor.

He was born Oct. 2, 1955, in Columbia, S.C., the youngest child of the late Pauline Hanckel and Christian Tucker Weston Jr.

Mr. Weston graduated from Berry Academy and was in the construction and maintenance business in Marathon, where he lived for the past 20 plus years. He was an active volunteer for many civic organizations including Relay for Life to support cancer research, the Marathon Business Professional Women's Association, helping them raise funds for adult scholarships; and the Boy Scouts and Carolina Children's Home, among others, in Columbia.

Stuart was most at home on and around the water and loved diving, windsurfing, sailing, jet skiing, and boating.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Melendez Weston, a stepson, Emanuel Paz-Perez, and beloved lab, Cain, of Marathon, Fla.; sister, Mary Weston Grimball and brother, Christian Tucker Weston III of Columbia; and sister, Frances Weston Smith of Mooresville, N.C. He was predeceased by sister, Pauline Hanckel Weston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Congaree, 1151 Elm Savannah Road, Hopkins, SC 29061. The family will receive visitors in the parish house following the service. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday May 27, 2006, at St. Columba Church, 451 52nd Street Gulf, Marathon, FL 33050. Private burial will be at a later date.

Patricia S. Whitmire
Greenville

Patricia Sue Smith Whitmire, 62, of 35 Walnut St., widow of Tony Randall Whitmire, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at her residence.

Born in Oakdale, La., she was a daughter of Jean Wilkenson Smith and the late Michael Lybran Smith.

Mrs. Whitmire was retired from MCI and was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a daughter, Gina Marie Whitmire of Atlanta; a son, Phillip E. Whitmire and his wife, Dawn, of Simpsonville; two granddaughters, Ariel and Emily Whitmire; and two sisters, Jean Ann Poston of Edisto Island, S.C., and Deborah Aldridge of Florida.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2006, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown from 11 to 11:45 a.m., with services to follow at noon in the chapel. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Phillip E. Whitmire, 222 Waterbury Court, Simpsonville.

Michael Rosser
(February 9, 1956 - January 6, 2012)

LANCASTER, SC - : Mr. Michael Rosser, age 55, of 2614 N. Rocky River Road, died Friday, January 6, 2012 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born February 9, 1956 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late William Charles Rosser and Bertha Jane Edwards Porter. Mr. Rosser worked for Walmart in the Tire Center, was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and served our great country in the United States Army.

Mr. Rosser is survived by his wife, Ana Rivera Rosser of the home, 3 sons, Manuel Villalta, Tony Villalta, and Jonathan Rosser, 3 daughters, Ana Romero and her husband Javier, Charity Woon and her husband Jason, and Jennifer Villalta, a brother, Bill and Rocio Rosser and nephew Moises Berrio, 10 grandchildren, Samantha and Nicholas Romero, Benjamin, Michaela and Gabriel Woon, Kristi Sellers Hughes, Amber Shepard, Heather Sellers, Dillon and Chelsea Rosser, 8 great grandchildren, a great uncle, Gene Edwards, nieces and nephews, Billy, Maria and Jordan Rosser, Mikey and Erica Rosser, Ana Maria and Roxi Rosser, and his mother-in-law, Consuelo Guzman.

Mr. Rosser was preceded in death by his son, Emory Kirk Lee Rosser.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Rosser will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Bethlehem Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Myers and Rev. Jason Woon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Family of Mr. Rosser will receive friends from 12 noon – 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the church and in lieu of flowers suggests a love offering for Ana Rosser through Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
