LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Sheila Jones Roberts, age 68, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at her home. She was born April 24, 1943 in Kershaw County, the daughter of the late Henry Calvin Jones and Evelyn Leona Adams Taylor and her husband Richard C. “Jake” Taylor and was the wife of the late Dwight L. Roberts. Mrs. Roberts was the current Pianist for Camp Creek Baptist Church and a retired Administrative Assistant. Mrs. Roberts’ love of music included teaching Piano to hundreds of students and playing for several churches.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her children, Tina Stuber and her husband Steven of Lancaster, Elizabeth R. Sanders and her husband Scott of Lancaster, Katherine McRae and her husband Phil of Troy, NC, Randy Roberts of Lancaster, and Richard Roberts of Shelby, NC, a brother, Richard C. Taylor of Alpharetta, GA, 2 sisters, Carolyn Taylor and Eleanor Threatt both of Lancaster, 10 grandchildren, Steven Stuber, Elizabeth S. Crance, Anna Truesdale, Jesse Usher, Sarah Usher, Elijah Sanders, Phillips McRae, Jennifer Miracco, Dara Roberts and Emma Roberts, 1 great grandchild, Peyton McRae.

Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by a brother, Joe R. Taylor and a sister, Janice Boltz.

The Family will host a Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Roberts at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Camp Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Randy Mellichamp.

The Family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 pm Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the church fellowship hall and in lieu of flowers suggests memorial contributions to Lancaster High School Choral Program, Attn: Lorri Crawford, 617 Normandy Road, Lancaster SC 29720.

Dorothy Privette
(August 12, 1924 - January 11, 2012)

LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Dorothy Hallman Privette, age 87, 2333 Shiloh Unity Road, died January 11, 2012 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born August 12, 1924 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late Ebenezer Erskine Hallman and Nellie Helms Hallman. Mrs. Privette was twice married , first to the late Alfred C. McDow and secondly to Hazel Robert Privette. Mrs. Privette was a retired telephone operator and co –owner of H & D Appliance, was a member of Unity ARP Church and served our great country in the United States Army.

Mrs. Privette is survived by a brother, Hugh Hallman and his wife Reba of Lancaster, her caregiver, Donna Smith of Lancaster, a step-son, Allen Privette and his wife Leta of Waxhaw, and 2 step-daughters, Diane Murray and her husband Michael of Charlotte and Iris Shelly and her husband Russell of Bethlehem, PA.

Mrs. Privette was preceded in death by a brother, Hinckle Hallman.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Privette will be 3:00 pm January 13, 2012 at Unity ARP Church by Rev. Charles Hammond. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Charles R. "Reggie" McCorkle
(August 23, 1944 - January 14, 2012)

LANCASTER, SC - : Mr. Charles Reginald “Reggie” McCorkle, age 67, died Saturday, January 14, 2012 at his home. He was born August 23, 1944 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Melvin McCorkle and Margaret Rhyner McCorkle was the husband of Betty English McCorkle. Mr. McCorkle retired from General Tire and was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.

Mr. McCorkle is survived by his wife, Betty English McCorkle of the home, a daughter, Regina Helms and her husband Tony, a son, Todd McCorkle and his wife Paula, a step-son, James Baker and his wife Amy, 2 step-daughters, Linda Baker and Faye Schaeffer all of Lancaster, a sister, Gail Price of Gastonia, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. McCorkle was preceded in death by a son, James “Jimmy” McCorkle, a step-son, Donnie Snipes, a step-daughter, Sandra Benton, and a sister, Maxey Rhyner.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. McCorkle will be 11:00 am, Monday, January 16, 2012 by The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home by Rev. Mitch Ingram and Rev. Dr. Bert Welch. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. Mary "Janie" Thomas
(March 22, 1934 - January 27, 2012)

LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Mary Jane “Janie” McAteer Thomas, age 77, died January 27, 2012 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born March 22, 1934 in Lancaster County the daughter of the late Caldwell McAteer and Edna Pardue McAteer and was the wife of William “Frank” Thomas. Mrs. Thomas retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband, William “Frank” Thomas of the home, 3 sons, Danny Thomas and his wife Tonette, Byran Thomas and his wife Karen, and Jeffrey Thomas, a brother, Luther McAteer, 3 sisters, Alma Neal, Della McManus and Barbara Catoe, 3 grandchildren, Michael Thomas, Evan Thomas and Larry Parr, 4 great grandchildren, Tra Thomas, Hailey and Madilyn Thomas and Mason Parr and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by a son, Larry Thomas.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Thomas will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Zion United Methodist Church by Rev. Jim Elder. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Albert Lewis, age 87, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Lancaster Convalescent Center where he was a resident. He was born August 12, 1924 in Warren, OH, the son of the late Arthur T. Lewis and Mary Frances Bunting Lewis and was the husband of Juanita Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a retired Electrical Engineer for Clark Control and was member of the Pi Sigma Tau Alpha Fraternity.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife Juanita Lewis of Lancaster and loving nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Lewis will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 4, 2012 at The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home.

LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Susie McDill Head, age 90, died February 8, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. She was born May 21, 1921 in Chester County, the daughter of the late Nixon Hemphill McDill and Ella Hicklin McDill and was the wife of the late Leon Head. Mrs. Head retired from Springs Industries, was a member of the Oasis Club and a member of Second Baptist Church.

Mrs. Head is survived by a son, Kenneth “Ken” Head and his wife Tiny of Greenville, 7 grandchildren, Tracy Head, Daniel Head (Heather), Michael Head (Sara), Benjamin Head (Elizabeth), Meredith Head, Amanda Hollin, and Charlotte Ford, 4 great grandchildren, Madeline, Lawson, David and Mary Mathews Head, special nieces and nephews, Harvey Moore, Hugh Berry Moore, Helen Lee, Betty Nichols and Frances Hjalmer, her daughter-in-law, Reba Head, and sister-in-laws, Yvonne McDill and Catherine McDill.

Mrs. Head was preceded in death by a son, James Roger Head, 4 brothers, Nixon McDill, Gus McDill, Cloud McDill, and Marcus McDill, a sister, Leigh McDill, a half-brother, George Moore, and a nephew Edward Moore.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Head will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Second Baptist Church of Lancaster by Rev. Dr. Brian Saxon. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Bennett Junior Pegram
(February 2, 1926 - February 10, 2012)

LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Bennett Junior Pegram, age 86, of 1157 Antioch Circle, died Friday, February 10, 2012 at his home. He was born February 2, 1926 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Joe B. Pegram and Mamie McClain Pegram and was the husband of the late Margaret Jones Pegram. Mr. Pegram retired from Springs Industries after 37 years of service.

Mr. Pegram is survived by 2 sons, Donald Pegram and his wife Emma of Lancaster, and Wayne Pegram and his wife Wanda of Florence, a sister, Willie Mae Bayne of Lancaster, 6 grandchildren, Phillip Pegram, Jonathan Avant, Michael Avant, Kristy Haymaker, Michael Pegram and Benji Pegram and 11 great grandchildren.

Mr. Pegram was preceded in death by a son, Larry Pegram.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Funeral Service for Mr. Pegram will be 11:00 am, Monday, February 13, 2012 at Lancaster Memorial Park by Rev. Danny Johnson. Burial will follow. John Haile
(December 3, 1937 - January 20, 2012)

LANCASTER, SC - Mr. John Kenneth Haile, age 74, died Friday, January 20, 2012 at his home. He was born December 3, 1937 in Lancaster County, the son of Mildred Crenshaw Haile and the late John Elmore Haile. Mr. Haile was a retired foreman for Bowater.

Mr. Haile is survived by a son, David Haile and his wife Sharon of Lancaster, a daughter, Lynn Haile of Charlotte, 2 brothers, Bobby Haile and his wife Carolyn and Ronnie Haile and his wife Tammy both of Lancaster, 2 sisters, Betty H. Lucas and her husband Hazel of Lancaster, and Carolyn H. Coody and her husband Robert of Rock Hill, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Haile will be 2:00 pm Sunday at The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home by Rev. Larry Helm.

ROCK HILL, SC - Mr. Gerald D. Baker, age 76, of 1 Church Street, died Monday, January 23, 2012 at Agape Hospice. He was born November 29, 1935 in York County, the son of the late Farld Baker and Sue Lea Crenshaw Baker. Mr. Baker retired from Georgia Pacific and served our great country in the United States Air Force.

Mr. Baker is survived by is 2 daughters, Crystal Edwards and her husband Benny of Catawba, SC, and Cindy Hernandez of Rock Hill, 2 brothers, Buddy Baker and Jim Baker both of Rock Hill, and 2 grandchildren, Ben Edwards and Jordan Edwards.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Baker will be 3:30 pm Thursday, January 26, 2012 at The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home.

LANCASTER, SC - Mrs. Jean Player Phillips, age 84, of 404 N. Main Street, died January 31, 2012 at Piedmont Medical Center. She was born March 30, 1927 in Kershaw County, the daughter of the late Nick Gardner and Emma Byrd Gardner and was the wife of the late Gerald Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was a hair stylist and owner of Jean’s Beauty Shop for over 60 years and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by 2 brothers, Jim Robinson and his wife Iris and Rocky Robinson and his wife Barbara, and a sister, Peggy Sigmon all of Lancaster, several nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends and customers that she considered family.

Mrs. Threatt is survived by her sons, Christopher Threatt and Jon Threatt both of the home, a brother, Archie Blackmon of Lancaster, 2 sisters, Diane Porter and her husband Jim of Liberty Hill and Elaine Gosnell and her husband Leon of York, SC, and her companion, Junior Sims.

Mrs. Sue Ann Deese Allen, 64, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at her home. She was born August 24, 1946 in Lancaster, a daughter of Johnny Deese and the late Leila Bigham Deese. Mrs. Allen enjoyed traveling, shopping and fishing.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Allen will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2 pm at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband Fred Norman Allen of Lancaster; a son, Fred William Allen and his wife April of Lancaster; three daughters, Sheila Renee Parkman, Sandra Ann Blackmon and Leila Willis and her husband, Jon all of Lancaster; her father Johnny Deese of Lancaster; two sisters, Betty Catoe and Dianne Ivey both of Lancaster; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Betty "Sadie" Francis Deese Davis Williams

Mrs. Betty “Sadie” Francis Deese Davis Williams, 67, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at her home. She was born August 18, 1943 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Haskell and Pauline McManus Deese. Mrs. Williams was retired from Clarks Control where she worked as a buyer and also worked as a secretary for Mike Blackmon’s Construction Company. She was a past member of the Ladies of the Moose. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Williams will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 3 pm from the graveside with the Rev. Randy Mellichamp officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Nick T. Williams of Lancaster; a son, Niven Heath Davis of Lancaster; a daughter, Paula Davis Teague and her husband Scott of Lancaster; a step-son, Kevin Thomas Williams and his wife, Laura of Lancaster;; a step-daughter, Kim Williams West and her husband, Paul of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Davis Scott Teague, Evan Grant Teague, Ryder Brooks Teague, Chloe Ann West, Paul Howard “Trey” West, III, and Dylan Thomas Williams; and a special cousin, Shannon Deese of Bremerton, WA. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Deese. The family of Mrs. Williams would like to express their appreciation to the 6th and 7th floor of Springs Memorial Hospital Transitional Care Unit for their dedication and countless hours of care.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home, 431 G Colonial Avenue, Lancaster.
