Mr. William Lewis Hunter, 42, of Lancaster passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at CMC in Charlotte. He was born May 5, 1969 in Lancaster, a son of Margaret Craig Adams and the late Ruben Jackson Hunter.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hunter will be held Friday, July 22, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Hunter Family cemetery with the Rev. Kelvin Hinson officiating.

Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife, Darilina Hunter of Lancaster; his mother, Margaret Adams of Heath Springs; a brother, Ruben Hunter of Lancaster; two sisters, Tina Whitley and her husband, John of Kershaw and Jamie Hall of Lancaster. Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his father, Ruben Jackson Hunter and sister, Margaret Falks.

Infant Aaron Yael Vasquez Lao
(Died July 11, 2011)

Infant Aaron Yael Vasquez Lao, of Lancaster passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center. He was born July 11, 2011 in Rock Hill, a son of Jesus Vasquez Santos and Valeria Laobaz.

A service to celebrate the life of Aaron will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 9 am at Centro Cristiano Loz y Verdad Church with Pastor Enoch Benavidez officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Aaron is survived by his father, Jesus Vasquez Santos and mother, Valeria Laobaz of Lancaster.

Sara McManus
(Died July 13, 2011)

Mrs. Sara Mosley McManus, 81, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born July 11, 1930 in Bethune, a daughter of the late Frank David and Lizzie Small Mosley. Mrs. McManus was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School Teacher for the Senior Class. She was a high school graduate who went back to school in her adulthood and graduated in her son’s junior year in 1976. She also worked for 42 years for Springs Industries, Inc. before retiring.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. McManus will be held Friday, July 15, 2011 at 3 pm at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Trent McLaughlin and the Rev. Chris Blackmon officiating. A celebration of life will follow immediately after at Antioch Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall.

Mrs. Sara McManus is survived by a son, Kenneth Rickey “Rik” McManus; and three special nieces, Sandi L. Griggs, Vicki L. Smith and Virgie Mae Hinson. She was preceded in death by brothers, Perry Mosley, L.J. Mosley, Ranzy Mosley, Roy Mosley and Jack Mosley and sisters, Nancy M. Thompson, Stella M. George and Lillian M. Snipes.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011 at Antioch Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall.

Blake Polk Fortune
(Died July 13, 2011)

Mrs. Blake Polk Fortune, widow of the late William Keet Fortune, Jr., 86, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born April 7, 1925 in Concord, a daughter of the late O.T. and Minnie Jewel Blackwelder Polk. Mrs. Fortune was a charter member of Reformation Lutheran Church and had retired as Assistant Director of Medical Records at Springs Memorial Hospital following 25 years of service.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Fortune will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 11:00 am at Reformation Lutheran Church with the Rev. Guy Shealy, Rev. Tom Corbell and Rev. Karl Bernsdorff officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Fortune is survived by a son, William K. “Bill” Fortune of Lancaster; a daughter, Deborah Kay Fortune of Columbia; and three grandchildren, Thomas White, Mary Beth White and Lauren White, all of Lancaster.

David Scott Brazzell
(Died July 16, 2011)

Mr. David Scott Brazzell, 41, of Lancaster passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born October 12, 1969 in Lancaster, a son of Charles Morrison Brazzell and the late Diana Sue Bradley. Mr. Brazzell was a sports all-star in high school. He was a hard worker that loved the outdoors and fishing. Mr. Brazzell loved being with his family and friends.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Brazzell will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 7 pm at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Douglas Pate officiating. Mr. Bazzell is survived by his father, Charles Morrison Brazzell of Pageland; two brothers, Charles “Chuck” Morrison Brazzell, Jr. of St. Augustine, FL and Mark Brazzell of Lancaster; one sister, Debbie B. Patterson and her husband Clint of Lancaster; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Edith Pate Bell, 74, of Lancaster, widow of Rev. Walter E. Bell, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at her home. She was born July 6, 1937 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Pate and Nettie Faile Pate. She was retired from Springs Industries.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bell will be held Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Lancaster Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Alexander, Pastor Eddie Usher and Pastor Marvin Tennant officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bell is survived by three sons, Ray Hilton and his fiancé Julie Phillips, Pastor Phillip Bell and his wife Carol, and Robert Bell and his wife Michelle all of Lancaster; a daughter, Phyllis Morgan and her husband Mike of Lancaster; her grandchildren, Heather Hilton, Leah Williams and her husband Richard, Scottie Morgan and his wife Michelle, Samantha Cruz and her husband Martin, Christopher Bell and his wife Brandy, Jennifer Bell and her companion Chuck Kirkley, Leslie Keeler and her husband Christopher, Brandon Bell, Madison Mills, Kayla Bell and Ryland Bell; and her great grandchildren, Phillip Trey Bell, Macy Taylor Bell, Zachery Whitaker, Christopher Keeler, Jr., Austin Miller, Brady Morgan, Joaquin Perez, Marissa Perez, and Lilianna Cruz. She was preceded in death by a grandson Phillip Jones.

Judy Marilyn Estes Chandler
(Died August 2, 2011)

Judy Estes Chandler, age 62, left her earthly home on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 surrounded by her loving family and close friends. Judy was born October 16, 1948, the proud daughter of the late Clarence Estes and Evelyn McMackin Estes and was the wife of the late Richard S. Chandler.

Judy grew up in Lancaster and began her working career at her father's Main Street Restaurant, Tiny Town Café. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1966 and has continued to be friends with many of her classmates from her early years. Through the years, she has always been on the class reunion committee serving as treasurer.

After high school, she went to work at The Bank of Lancaster holding numerous positions. There she met numerous people who became lifelong friends. She enjoyed this work because of the people she worked with and because of having the privilege of working in the heartbeat of the community. In the late 70’s, at Judy’s encouragement, Richard opened Richard Chandler’s Body Shop while she continued working at the Bank of Lancaster. In 2001, they invested in building a new collision center and their sons, Jason and Jeffrey, became a part of the organization. Her life changed dramatically when their premature twins arrived in 1981. The next wonderful years were spent mothering her precious sons. Being a mother and wife was the most rewarding roles of her life.

She returned to school earning a Master of Social Work degree from USC. After that she worked as a clinical social worker at Saluda Center of Rock Hill. She was a Licensed Independent Social Worker supervising others toward that licensure. She was a member of National Association of Social Workers and SC Association of Clinical Social Workers. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2004, she became an advocate for others with the disease as well as other cancers. She belonged to a support group called "The Teal Magnolias" who supported those with ovarian cancer, educated them and got them in touch with resources.

Her church was a major part of her life. She grew up in Grace Presbyterian Church then moved to Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church. There she served as an elder, Clerk of the Session, and numerous other committees through the years. Other community work included The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life where she chaired the county's mission committee, which included the Look Good Feel Better program where she devoted much of her time. She volunteered for the Red Cross as a mental health professional spending time at the World Trade Center site after the 9/11 attacks.

Judy is survived by her loving twin boys, Jason Chandler and Jeffrey Chandler both of Lancaster; her brother and his wife, Lynn Estes and his wife Judy of Lancaster and their children, Sherry Leite and her husband Craig of Fayetteville, NC, Robin Turner and her husband Terry and their son Ethan and Missy Teal and her husband Terry and their daughter Natalie all of Lancaster; a sister in law, Glenda Kay Westmoreland and her husband Joe of Charlotte and their daughter, Tamela Hastie and her husband Drayton and their children, Draytie, Penelope, Avery, Warren, and Griffin of Columbia, SC; her step children, Rick Chandler, Jr. and Susan Baker and her husband David also of Lancaster; two step-grandchildren Elizabeth Baker and Ann Baker of Columbia; her step sister, Joanna Carr Butler of Virginia; and her step brother, Chuck Carr of Washington, DC.

A service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at 11:00 am Friday morning, August 5, 2011 at Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. Eugene Rollins and Rev. Gene Ghent.

The Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00pm Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Lancaster Funeral Home and in lieu of flowers suggest memorial contributions be made to Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church, Manse Fund, PO Box 170, Liberty Hill, SC 29074 or the American Cancer Society, Designated for Ovarian Cancer Research, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

James Wilson Steele, Sr.
(Died August 9, 2011)

Mr. James Wilson Steele, Sr., 69, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at his home. He was born June 4, 1942 in Lancaster, a son of the late Martin A. Steele, Sr. and Geneva Snipes Steele. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Steele will be held Friday, August 12, 2011 at 2 pm at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Waldrop officiating. Burial will be in the Camp Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Steele is survived by three sons, Jimmy Steele, Jr. and Timmy Steele both of Lancaster, and Chris Steele and his wife Mandie of York; three brothers, Martin Steele and Clyde Steele of Lancaster, and Frank Steele of Charlotte, NC; one sister Judy Humphreys of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Austin Steele, Anna Steele, Scott Steele, Kimberly Steele, Jeremy Steele and Karleigh Steele; and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Hunter Steele; eight brothers, Joe Steele, Herman Steele, Dudley Steele, Reece Steele, Jeffie Steele, Roy Steele, Sikes Steele, and Chalmers Steele; and five sisters, Sarah Knight, June Hair, Viola Hallman, Rettie Mae Hartes and Mary Carnes.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home of Judy Humphreys, 1932 Robin Drive, Lancaster.

Roger Harry Johnson
(Died August 23, 2011)

Mr. Roger Harry Johnson, 76, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born April 13, 1935 in St. Clairesville, Ohio, a son of the late George Orville and Golda Mae Crawford Johnson. He was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and was the Owner/Operator of Johnson Tool & Die. Mr. Johnson was a loving husband of 58 years, father, grandfather and brother. He loved flying his plane, being outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and golfing.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11 am at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Fr. David Runion officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Jane A. Johnson of Lancaster; a son, Kenneth Johnson and his wife, Lisa of Stow, Ohio; two daughters, Marjorie Musser and her husband, Bob of Maben, Mississippi and Carole Baughman and her husband, Bob of Lancaster; a brother, Earl Johnson of Ravenna, Ohio; a sister, Shirley Alexander and her husband, Bryan of Escondido, California; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Lancaster Funeral Home.

Minnie Huffman Clough
(Died August 9, 2011)

Mrs. Minnie Huffman Clough, 91, widow of the late James Andrew “Andy” Clough, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the White Oak Manor. She was born February 12, 1920 in Parksville, SC, a daughter of the late Wade Phillip and Vashti Mull Huffman. Mrs. Clough was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Clough will be held Thursday, 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Anderson and Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Clough is survived by a son, James A. “Jim” Clough and his wife, Sarah of Goldsboro, NC; two daughters, Linda Blalock of Lancaster and Martha Mangin and her husband, Geoff of Shreveport, LA; two sisters, Willie Ada “Bill” Dean and Ruth Thurman, both of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Amy Davis, Tracy Kautz, Andy Clough, Adam Clough, Chris Mangin, Jacky David Blalock, Jr., and Brent Blalock; and nine great grandchildren, Meagan Davis, Drew Davis, Zachary Davis, Ronnie Kautz, Brock Clough, Hermoine Clough, Mary Ella Mangin, Jacob Mangin and Rusty Collinsworth. Mrs. Clough was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Huffman and Mull Huffman and a sister, Thelma Jane Sutherland.

Peggy Sue Haigler Adams
(Died July 26, 2011)

Mrs. Peggy Sue Haigler Adams, 63, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center. She was born February 13, 1948 in Monroe, NC, a daughter of Lillian Little Moseley and the late Charlie Rushing. Mrs. Adams is a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed yard work and crafts.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Adams will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11 am at Camp Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Mellichamp officiating. Burial will be in the Camp Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Dennis Cauthen
(Died August 16, 2011)

Mr. Dennis James Cauthen, 54, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011. He was born October 22, 1956 in Lancaster, a son of James Edgar Cauthen and Betty Sims Cauthen. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the Trustees, and President of the Men’s Club. He had participated in many mission trips with his church as well as Salkehatchie Summer Service. Mr. Cauthen had been a volunteer for the Elgin Fire Department for thirty one years where he had served as Chief for the last 15 years. He was a leader with Boy Scout Troop 180, serving as Venture Crew Leader.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Cauthen will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kyle Randle officiating. Burial will be in the St. Luke United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mr. Cauthen is survived by his wife Teresa Faile Cauthen; a son, Brady James Cauthen and his wife Christy of Greenville; two daughters, Bridgett C. Epperson and her husband David of Manning and Amanda C. Carnes and her husband Brad of Lancaster; his parents, James Edgar Cauthen and Betty Sims Cauthen of Lancaster; a sister, Susan Jeffers and her husband John of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Harper Epperson, Maggie Epperson, Olivia Carnes and Lauren Carnes; and his mother – in – law, Bonnie Truesdale.

Mrs. Leona Youmans Brasington, 88, of Heath Springs, widow of Ernest R. Brasington, Sr., passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Lancaster Convalescent Center. She was born June 18, 1923 in Early Branch, SC, a daughter of the late John Howell Youmans, I and Bridie Mae Crosby Youmans. Mrs. Brasington was a member of the Rich Hill Baptist Church and a homemaker.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Brasington will be held Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 4:30 pm at Rich Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Jump, Rev. Cliff Wilson, and the Rev. Tim Larrimore officiating. Burial will be in the Rich Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Brasington is survived by three sons, Jerome Brasington of Lancaster, Tommy Brasington and his wife, Sandra of Fremont, Ohio and James “Pee Wee” Brasington and his wife, Wendy of Heath Springs; daughter-in-law, Lori Brasington of Lancaster; a brother, John Howell Youmans, II and his wife, Mary of Yemassee; two sisters, Myrtle Mickel of Beaufort, SC, and Annie Mae Reeves of Yemassee; eleven grandchildren, Benji Brasington, Heather Brasington, Jennifer Brasington, Lee Ann Bell, Tommy Brasington, Jr., Jason Brasington, Tracey Forgione, Elizabeth Korsog, Michael Brasington, Paula McCorkle and Steve Brasington; and 16 great grandchildren. Mrs. Brasington was preceded in death by a son, Ernest R. “Ernie” Brasington, Jr. and a sister, Margie Bisbee.
