Mrs. Nancy Louise McCoy Jowers, 70, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born July 25, 1941 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Moses Michael and Hattie Haire McCoy. Mrs. Jowers was a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church and a member of the Lancaster Historical Commission, representing the 5th District and was a member of the SC Democratic Women's Council.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Jowers will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Guy Shealy officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Jowers is survived by her husband, Billy M. Jowers of Lancaster; a son, Billy Michael Jowers of Lancaster; three daughters, Sandra Jowers Griffin and her husband, Rick of Pageland, Margaret Jowers and her companion, James McManus and Marsha Jowers Reeves and her husband, Eric both of Lancaster; a son in law, Ken Stacks of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Kenny Stacks, Blake Stacks, Jason Stevens, Tori Crowley, Chandler Crowley, Brent Jowers, Ryan Reeves; and four great grandchildren, Lexy Helms, Jase Stevens, Landon Stacks and Calli Reeves. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Jowers Stacks and two brothers, Hubert and Melvin McCoy.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home, 211 East Doc Garris Road. Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. Jowers.

John Dale Plyler
(Died August 16, 2011)

Mr. John Dale Plyler, 49, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at his home. He was born October 5, 1961 in Maryland, a son of Laura Faulkenberry Plyler and the late John Wylie Plyler. Mr. Plyler was a member of New Life Christian Assembly.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Plyler will be held Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11 am at New Life Christian Assembly Church with the Rev. Bayliss Adimaro officiating. Mr. Plyler is survived by his wife, Bridget Boone Plyler of Lancaster; a stepson, Paul Eugene Culp of Lancaster; two brothers, James Douglas Plyler and his wife Renee and Robert Michael Plyler and his wife Carol, all of Lancaster; and a nephew, Andrew Plyler.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the church and other times at 501 West Barr Street, Lancaster.

(Died July 27, 2011)

Mrs. Sally Irene Owens Ray, widow of the late Carl Lee Ray, 92, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at her home. She was born September 6, 1918 in Kershaw, a daughter of the late Henry Owens and Matilda Peach Owens. Mrs. Ray enjoyed listening to country music and watching the stars perform, gardening, entertaining in the kitchen and loved being with her family.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ray will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11 am at the Lancaster Funeral Home - Chapel with the Rev. Keith Hinson officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Ray is survived by a son, Derrell W. Ray, M.D. and his wife, June of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Dianne Ray Geiger and her husband, Johnny of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 13 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Herman Bruce Ray, a daughter, Connie R. Barnes; brothers R.H. Owens, Guary Leaburn Owens, C.B. Owens, and James W. Owens, and a sister, Mary Broughton.

Ruby Lee Ivey Threatt
(Died August 4, 2011)

Mrs. Ruby Lee Ivey Threatt, 82, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at her home. She was born May 12, 1929 in Chesterfield, a daughter of the late James Franklin Ivey and Julie Starnes Ivey. Mrs. Threatt was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church and was a retiree from Chesterfield Yarn. She was a loving mother and grandmother, she loved working in her yard taking care of her flowers and loved to fish.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Threatt will be held Sunday, August 7, 2011 at 3 pm at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mitch Ingram and Rev. Douglas Pate officiating. Burial will be in the High Point Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Threatt is survived by two sons, Jerry R. Threatt and his wife Rose and Wayne L. Threatt and his wife Rose all of Lancaster; two daughters, Myrtice Carter and her late husband Thomas and Ruth Powers all of Lancaster; three sisters, Louise Faile of Gastonia, Lucille Chapel of Lancaster and Mildred Burgess of Rock Hill; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse James Threatt; a son, Wade Howard Threatt; a daughter, Mary Lee Threatt.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Lancaster Funeral Home.

Cody Robert Livesay, 1, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was born March 2, 2010 in Lancaster, a son of Robert Darrell and Lisa O’Donnell Livesay.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Cody will be held Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Shane Owens officiating.

Cody is survived by his parents, Robert Darrell and Lisa Livesay of Lancaster; a brother, Caden Grant O’Donnell of the home; and a sister, Crystal Marie Livesay of the home; paternal grandmother, Sara B. Hancock of Lancaster; and maternal grandparents, William and Laura O’Donnell of Fort Mill.

(Died August 4, 2011)

Mr. George Theron Jenkins, 90, of Charlotte passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. He was born March 7, 1921 in Pageland, a son of the late George Mae Jenkins and Pauline Coker Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins was member of Central Church of God in Charlotte, NC. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend that lived life to the fullest and always with a smile.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Jenkins will be held Sunday, August 7, 2011 at 7 pm at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Lankford and Rev. Charles Cauthen officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Doris Cauthen Jenkins of Charlotte; two sons, Johnny Jenkins and Kenny Jenkins, both of Lancaster; a step-son, Randy Sims; a daughter Linda Elliott of Lancaster, four step daughters, Margaret Israel of Matthews, NC, Rebecca Davis of Denver, NC, Lorraine Broach and Alice Sanders of Lancaster; 17 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Billy and Jimmy Jenkins.

Mrs. Louise McMurray Eaker, 88, of Kershaw passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011 at her home. She was born October 30, 1922 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Joseph Grady McMurray and Carrie Estelle Neal McMurray.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Eaker will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 10 am from the graveside with the Rev. James Atkinson officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Eaker is survived by three sons, Jerry B. Hunter and his special friend Mary Ann Frashier of Kershaw, Barry N. Hunter and his wife Helen of Lancaster, and Ronnie “Boxie” Hunter and his wife Cathy L. of Kershaw; eight grandchildren, Sharon L. Hunter, Susan R. McCabe, Lisa Anne Knicht, John Hunter, Barry T. Hunter, Amy Michelle Hunter, Misty D. Burgess, and Austin L McCabe; twelve great grandchildren, Brandy L. Hunter, Abigale L. Hunter, Jonathan Knicht, Katland Knicht, Lisa Hunter, Kailee Hunter, Sully Hunter, Chelsey B. Hunter, Hailey D. Hunter and Devin J. Hunter, Ryan Burgess and Abbigale G. Burgess; and one great-great grandchild, Logan McCabe; and one sister. Myrtis M. Funk. She is preceded in death by a son, Thomas D. Hunter; a grandson, Jerry B. Hunter, Jr.; two sisters, Ann M. Ingram and Evelyn M. Starnes.

Mrs. Ella Christine Robinson Carter, 78, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Lancaster Convalescent Center. She was born November 23, 1932 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Charlie B. Robinson and Ruth Gardner Robinson.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Carter will be held Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 3 pm from the graveside with the Rev. James Atkinson officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Carter is survived by one son, Charles B. Carter and his wife B.B.; three daughters, Diane Cairnes and her husband Raymond of Heath Springs, Nancy Snipes and her husband Tony of Lancaster, and Denise Duncan and her husband Phil of Ocala, Florida; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne Robinson. He was preceded in death by two sons, Nick and Adrian Carter; a brother, C B Robinson, and a sister, Mattie Adams.

Deborah Knight Smith

Mrs. Deborah Knight Smith, 58, of Lancaster passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center. She was born May 14, 1953 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Clyde W. and Agnes Faile Knight. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Taylors Grove Baptist Church.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Smith will be held Monday, August 8, 2011 at 2 pm at Taylors Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Howell and the Rev. Donald W. Tillman officiating. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Tony R. Smith of Lancaster; a son, Tony Smith and his wife, Christine of Lancaster; a daughter, Pamela Michelle Smith of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Heather Tiffany Caskey, Kelly Marie Caskey, Chelsea Ray Smith, Kendall Nicole Smith, Julienne Elizabeth Sullivan and Courtney Allison Sullivan; and one great grandchild, Dallas Caiden Denkins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Coleman “Johnny” Knight.

Rosemary Zimmerman Watson
(Died August 15, 2011)

Mrs. Rosemary Zimmerman Watson, 81, of Lancaster, passed away Monday, August 15, 2011 at her home. She was married to the late William Reece Watson for sixty years. She was born January 30, 1930 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Clinton Simpson Zimmerman and Mary Caskey Zimmerman. Mrs. Watson was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she had been in the choir for over sixty years. She was also a member of the Myrtle Bowling Circle and the Ladies Bible Sunday School Class. Mrs. Watson had been the secretary/bookkeeper for Elgin Woodshop for many years. Mrs. Watson loved her yard and enjoyed working in her flower beds. She was a devoted Wife and Mother, loved her grandchildren and was a loyal friend to many.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Watson will be held Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kyle Randle officiating. Burial will be in the St. Luke United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Watson is survived by a son, William R. “Billy” Watson, Jr. and his wife Kay of Lancaster; a daughter, Becky W. Murphy and her husband Dennis of Edgemoor; and three grandchildren, Blaire Watson, Leslie M. Gaston and Kristi M. Murphy. She was preceded in death by a brother Charles Clinton “Zeke” Zimmerman.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service and other times at her home, 165 Bailey Road.

Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late Clarence Crane and Gladys Crane Gunnells and step-son of the late Ed Gunnells. He was a retired truck driver. Surviving are his wife, Marie “Myra” Stokes Crane of Timmonsville, S.C.; son, Scotty Crane of Laurens, S.C.; daughters, Annette Walden of Belton, S.C., Jami Crane of Greenville, S.C.; brothers, Ronnie Crane and Don Crane, both of Honea Path, S.C., Richard Crane of Gray Court, S.C.; grandchildren, Jessica Holcomb, Will Crane, Faith Crane.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. at Franklin Memorial Gardens, Highway 555 in Blythewood, S.C., directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. Mr. Fair died Friday, Aug. 5, at his residence in Hartsville. He was the son of the late Rev. William and Alice Butler Fair and brother of the late Geraldine Vivian Fair Addison. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Davis Fair, two sons, David William Fair and Daniel Wilson Fair, all of Hartsville; two nephews, Shawn Addison and Roland Addison, both of Columbia; aunts Willie Mae Grooms of Columbia, Emma Butler of Brooklyn, N.Y., Irene Means of Newberry, S.C. and May Lee Rauch of Washington, D.C.; two uncles, John P. Butler of Calif. and James Butler of Newberry; dear cousins, father-in-law Wilson Davis of Hartsville, in-laws and friends.

Funeral services for Pearl Davis, 79, were at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial was in New Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. Mrs. Davis died Saturday, Aug. 5. Born in Darlington County, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Lucy Issac Reed. She received her education in Darlington County public schools and was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church, Usher Board, Missionary Board, Senior Choir and Eastern Star. She was the wife of the late Walter Davis. Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by a son, James Reed. Surviving are her children, Walter Daryl (Shay) Davis of Beaufort, Jessi (Jesse) R. Taylor of San Antonio, Texas; sisters and brothers, Willie Reed, Leroy Reed, Lillie Mae Pooler, Mary Edwards, all of Hartsville, Lucille Davis, Rosalee Sparks, both of Philadelphia, Penn.; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

Services for Sammie Lee (Cheetah) Samuels will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 9, 2000, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. Mr. Samuels died Friday, Aug. 4. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Sam and Eliza Mae Samuel. He was born in Darlington County and educated in Darlington County public schools. He was employed as a cement finisher with Red Bell Inc. Survivors include his children, Steve Smith and Nichole Smith of Charlotte, N.C. and Teacho Robinson of Columbia; five grandchildren, five sisters, Liz (Garret) Freeman of Darlington, Frankie Ridges of Dunn, N.C., Linda Martin, Rachel Samuel, Terry L. Samuel, all of Hartsville; three brothers, Standord Samuel of Society Hill, Markham Samuel of Hartsville, and Anthony (Gail) Samuel of Daytona Beach, Fla.; an uncle, Joseph (Mary) Lowery Sr. of Hartsville; great-aunt, Mary Kelley of Hollis, N.Y.; an aunt, Clara (Pee Wee) Harris of Daytona Beach, Fla. and a host of other close family members and very dear friends.

Services for Leland Wallace Gibson Sr., 85, will be held at 11 a.m. this morning, Aug. 9, 2000, at West Hartsville Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Sullivan, officiating. Burial will be in Westview Memorial Park cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to West Hartsville Baptist Church. Mr. Gibson died Saturday, Aug. 5. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Edwin Lee and Bessie Blackmon Gibson. He was a charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company with 44 years of service and was a member of the Old Timers Club. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Christine Price Gibson of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Wallace (Vickie) Gibson, Mike (Carol Ann) Gibson, all of Hartsville; daughter and sons-in-law, Carolyn (Gerald) Baine of Goldsboro, N.C.; sister, Jacquelin Taylor of Hartsville; grandchildren, Gerald Baine Jr., Linda B. Mrs. Funderburk, widow of William Rom Funderburk, died Monday, Aug. 7. Born in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late James Walker and Fannie Lou Hammond Powers. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for 72 years, the Altar Guild, Oxford Circle and Sowell-McIntosh Sunday School class. She was retired from the Peoples Bank with 39 years of service and was a former member of the Pilot Club.
