PECOLA F. McLEOD
Funeral services for Pecola Fox McLeod were held at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2005, at the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. J.D. Blue, pastor of Second Baptist Church in Hartsville, officiated the service.

Mrs. McLeod was born April 30, 1944, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late James F. Fox and Jessie Mae Samuel Fox. She departed this life on June 14, 2005. She was educated in the public schools of the county.

“Cola, ” as she was called by all who knew her, lived a fun-filled life of marriage and motherhood. She was a kind-hearted person who gave of herself to others by gifts of food and clothing whenever she saw the need. She was known to visit persons at various nursing homes in the area who were in need of a listening ear, a visit or just someone to be there for them. She often dressed the hair of the ladies she visited. Her presence and kindness will surely be missed.

Surviving to cherish her loving memory are two daughters, Vivian (James) Johnson of Darlington and Mary Lisa (Willie) Samuels of New Haven, Conn.; four sons, Ronnie (Jeannette) McLeod and Robert (Christine) McLeod both of New Haven, Conn., Jerry (Odessa) McLeod and Perry (Beverly) McLeod both of Florence; two sisters, Janie Lee Fox of Oates and Judy Fox of Darlington; a niece she considered as a daughter, Jessie “Ann” Fox of Darlington, another niece, Penny Fox of Darlington; her aunts, Annie L. Scott and Julia Jordan; her uncles, Carlyle “Nick” Fox, Tillie (Clara) Fox, Robert (Bussie) Fox, and Herbert (Carrie) Fox ; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and very dear friends.

ONNIE E. NORRIS
LOCUST GROVE, Okla. — Memorial services for Onnie Elizabeth Norris, 79, will be held on Monday, June 27, 2005, at the Ft. Gibson National cemetery, Ft. Gibson, Okla. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mrs. Norris passed away Wednesday, June 15, in Locust Grove. She was born Nov. 9, 1925, in Florence, to the late Perry S. and Bessie (Collins) Hicks. Mrs. Norris attended schools in Hartsville, where she earned her high school diploma. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper and office manager for Goldman Brothers in Dallas, Texas.

On January 14, 1972, in Mesquite, Texas, Onnie and Bobby Jack Norris were joined in marriage. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2002. She lived in Texas for many years. Upon retirement, she relocated to Locust Grove, Okla. Mrs. Norris was of the Episcopalian faith. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.

She is survived by one daughter, Cecelia Adcock and husband Gene of Locust Grove, Okla.; one son, Wesley Norris and wife Kristi of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Joy Gandy and husband Heyward of South Carolina; two granddaughters, Ginger Turcotte and Christina Cox; two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and a host of friends.

HORACE BLACKWELL
McBEE — Funeral services for Horace Blackwell, 59, were held at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2005, at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Holland officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Blackwell died Thursday, June 16. He was born in Hartsville a son of the late Horace and Christine Hall Blackwell. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Chappell Blackwell of McBee; daughters, Chris (Billy) O’Bannon and Jennie (James) Gainey of McBee; sisters, Maude Kelley of Bishopville, Ruth Gainey and Taphina Roach of McBee; brothers, Ralph and Carl Blackwell of McBee, George Blackwell of Hartsville; grandchildren, Courtney Gilbert, Brian O’Bannon, Cody, Joseph and Morgan Gainey, all of McBee.

DALE ENNIS
ORLANDO, Fla. — Memorial services for Dale Ray Ennis, 56, were held 3 p.m.Sunday, June 19, 2005, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home in Darlington.

Mr. Ennis died suddenly June 14 at his home in Belle Isle of Orlando, Fla. He was born in Jamestown, N.Y., son of Roger Miles and Dorothy Mae Woodmancy Ennis. He graduated from Plus Gray School of Business in 1968 with an associate’s degree in business; H.S. Higgins Classical Institute in Maine in 1996; and Florida Southern College in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was employed with Disney Corp. of Orlando.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Leesburg, Fla.; are his wife, Paula Harrison Ennis of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Dawn (Michael) DeCotiis of Portland, Maine; nephew, Jonathan (Tracy) Denheam; three step-children, also of Portland, Maine.

Mr. Ennis is the son-in-law of Teddy (Frankie) Harrison and Rose Anne (S.O.) Robinson of Darlington.

HELEN GREEN
LAMAR — Funeral services for Helen Hafer Green, 84, will be held at a later date with Belk Funeral Home assisting.

Mrs. Green died Friday, June 16, 2005. She was born in West Reading, Pa., daughter of the late Earl R. and Florence Nocker Hafer. She was a homemaker and member of Lamar United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of more than 60 years, Raymond E. Green of Lamar; three sons, Robert A. (Carol) Green of Brookville, Fla.; James E. (Sharon) Green of San Goleta, Calif.; and Thomas R. (Lisa) Green of Hummelstown, Pa.; one daughter, Suzanne M. (James) Folk of Lamar; six grandchildren; one sister, Jane Hafer of Mesa, Ariz.

MOLLY J. CAMPBELL
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Molly Joyce Keith Campbell, 68, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home officiated by Pastors Allen Lynch and Sammy Byrd. Interment followed in Grove Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Campbell died Thursday, June 16. She was born in Florence County, daughter of the late John McLaurin and Ella Louise Hatchell Keith. She was married to the late Alston Leroy Campbell. She had retired from Nytronics Inc. and enjoyed cooking and doing for others. Mrs. Campbell was very supportive in her giving to our military troops. She was a member of Vision Assembly Church.

Surviving are two sons, William Leroy (Sue) Campbell and Johnny McLaurin (Dale) Campbell, both of Darlington; four daughters, Gwen C. (Bob) Gandy of Hartsville, Rose C. (Termite) Briggs of Darlington, Lisa C. (Ronald) Turbeville of Florence and Page C. (Glenn) Chestnut of Darlington; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her aunt, Meres Davis of Darlington; also a family friend, Harold Black.

Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Keith Campbell.

CLYDE JORDAN
Services for Clyde Jordan, 23, were held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Jeffords officiating. Burial was in Grantham cemetery.

Mr. Jordan died Sunday, June 19. He was employed with Hilex Poly Co.

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Kay Herring and George Lyles of Hartsville; father, Mitchell Jordan of Hartsville; sisters, Amanda Leon of Hartsville and Alisha Michele (Bryan) Lyerly of Florence; maternal grandmother, Mary Lue Herring of Bishopville; paternal grandmother, Mary Jordan of Hartsville; and girlfriend, Kristi Potthoff of Hartsville.

ANNIE MAE PETERSON
Annie Mae Peterson, 84, died Friday, June 17, 2005, at Wilson Medical Center after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. The family will receive friends at 1414 Martin Luther King Drive, Hartsville.

SALLIE M. GRAHAM
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Sallie Mae Bishop, 79, were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005, at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Graham died Tuesday, June 14, after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Hugh and Marie Bishop. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system and was a graduate of Butler High School. Mrs. Graham was a retired employee with A&P; Coffee Co. and was a member of Isle of Patmos Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are one daughter, Doris (Allen) McFarland of Portsmouth, Va.; one son, Matthew T. (Emma) Graham Jr. of Hampton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six sisters, Geneva, Margurite, Nancy, Daisy, Laura and Katie; one brother, Leroy; three godchildren, Clifton Thompson, Jerome McFarland II and Alvita Byrd; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

BRAZEL TRUITTE
A memorial service for Brazel Thomas Truitte, 79, were held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2005, at Belk Funeral Home, Lamar. Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville.

Mr. Truitte died Wednesday, June 15. He was born in Lee County, son of the late Capers Carlisle and Eula Stokes Truitte. He served his country with the United States Navy and was a retired fuel oil driver. He was Baptist in faith.

Surviving are two daughters, Tomaline Murray of San Antonio, Texas, and Patricia Wardino of Reston, Va.; brother, Marion Truett of Greenville; sister, Bernice Windham of Florence; sister-in-law, Margie Truett of Lamar and two step-daughters, Linda Godwin of Lake City and Wanda Zedick of Darlington.

Memorials are suggested to Lamar Rescue Squad, PO Box 114, Lamar, SC 29069.

MACK STRICKLAND
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Leonard “Mack” M. Strickland, 63, were held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Trinity Methodist Church cemetery in Johnsonville.

Mr. Strickland died Thursday, June 16. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late Leonard and Elma Hall Strickland. He had retired from Georgia Pacific-Dixie Products of Darlington and was a volunteer fireman with Darlington City Fire Department for 33 years. He enjoyed family activities, gospel music and sports. Mr. Strickland grew up in the Free Will Baptist and Pentecostal Holiness churches of Darlington.

Surviving are his wife, Linda J. Strickland of Darlington; one daughter, Amelinda (Tim) Matthews of Scranton; brother, James Henry (Vera) Strickland; sister, Evelyn Shoemake, all of Darlington; also, nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to Darlington Fire Department, 301 Orange St., Darlington, SC 29532.
