DONNETTE WESTFALL
LAMAR - Donnette Poston Westfall, 70, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at her residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Elim United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Westfall was born in Willliamsburg County, daughter of the late Brooks and Signal Tanner Poston. She did handcrafts and was a sitter for people. She was a member of Fellowship of Faith, Edgefield.

Surviving are her son, Brooks 'Tony ' Westfall of Lexington; two sisters, Miriam Richardson of Gilbert and Leurege Poston of Lamar; nieces, Carol (Frank) Watford and Ilene (Ronnie) McCoy, both of Lamar; and nephews, Randy (Patty) Altman of Florida and Daryl (Millie) Altman of Columbia.

NELL HOLLOWAY
DARLINGTON - Edith Nell Huggins Holloway, 70, died June 22, 2005, in a Columbia hospital. Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, in Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Holloway was born in Dillon County, daughter of the late Leo and Lillian Page Huggins.

She had retired as a secretary from Standard Trucking Company. Mrs. Holloway had a caring spirit and was a member of High Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Mike (Janice) Holloway of Bluffton and Mitch (Lori) Holloway of Darlington; two granddaughters, Amber Holloway and Megan Holloway; one brother, R.L. (Faye) Huggins of Darlington; two sisters, Faye Galloway, also of Darlington and Rita Harrell of Sun City, Fla.; also nieces and nephews.

PATSY WILLS
Funeral services for Patsy Ann Gibson Wills, 69, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Swift Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Peter Rivera will officiate with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, June 29, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Swift Creek Baptist Church, 413 N. Center Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550; American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210; or American Heart Association Memorials, Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058.

Mrs. Wills died Monday, June 27. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of Grace Sparrow Gibson and the late W. D. 'Bill ' Gibson. She was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church. She was previously employed with Hartsville Manufacturing, Red Fox Apparel, Bishopville Manufact-uring and was retired from the Hyman Law Firm.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, David and Maria de los Angeles Wills of Brookfield, Wis.; mother of Hartsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, W. D. 'Billy ' and Gladys Gibson Jr. of Newport, Tenn., W. Earl and Barbara Gibson of Hartsville; grandchildren, Shellie D. Wills, David Wills Jr., Wesley Wills, Sarah M. Wills, Patrick Wills.

BLONNIE LUCAS
Graveside services for Blonnie Morris Lucas, 93, will be held at 4 p.m. today, June 29, 2005, at Magnolia cemetery. The Rev. Milton Frazier will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Lucas, widow of William J. 'Bill ' Lucas, died Sunday, June 26. Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Henry M. and Annie Mitchum Morris. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Shirley Lucas of Hartsville; grandson and spouse, Rep. James H. 'Jay ' and Tracey Lucas of Hartsville; granddaughter, Alyson Carol Heath of North Augusta; special family, Patsy and Bobby Stokes of Hartsville, Judy Weatherford of Hartsville; several nieces and nephews; great grandchildren, Will Lucas and Carol Ann Arant.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Ray Lucas and Jerry Lucas; brothers, Samuel L. Morris, John Waterman 'J.W. ' Morris, William M. Morris; sisters, Alberta Webb Funk, Mable Jessie Weatherford.

MELVIN ATKINSON
Funeral services for Melvin Allen Atkinson, 56, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Gary Colboch and the Rev. John Smith will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, June 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Atkinson died June 28. Born in Darlington, County, he was a son of John L. 'Bud ' and Alice Louise Bailey Atkinson. He was self-employed as an auto body worker and painter. He was a loving husband, who loved fishing and playing lead guitar in a band for 15 years.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Winburn Atkinson of Hartsville; daughter, Laurel Lutcken of Florence; brother and sister-in-law, John C. 'Nimp ' and Chris Atkinson of Hartsville; brothers-in-law, William J. 'Jake ' Win-burn of Hartsville, David Win-burn of Clover, John Winburn of Hartsville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Richard Putnam of Hartsville; mother-in-law, Nellie Winburn; grandchildren, Keaton Lutcken, Kameron Lutcken, Christian Lutcken; 13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Stephen Paul Winburn.

MARTHA SHANNON
McBEE — Martha Shannon died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Morrell Convalescent Home after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

JOHN H. SMITH
John H. Smith, 58, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 2117 Tol Road, Society Hill.

SARA E. KIRKLAND
SUMTER — Funeral services for Sara Evelyn Kirkland, 94, will be held at 11 a.m Thursday, July 9, 2005, at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery, directed by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory of Sumter.

Mrs. Kirkland, widow of John Rozelle “Red” Kirkland, died Monday, July 4, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville. Born in Bishopville on July 1, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Lee Graddick and the late Bertha Woodham Graddick. Mrs. Kirkland graduated from Hartsville High School and received a degree in business administration from Coker College in Hartsville. She operated the family business, Kirkland Cleaners, for 12 years after the death of her husband.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, the Jennie Alderman Bible Study Group, the Friendship Sunday School Class and the XYZ group. She was a member of the Pilot Club of Sumter, the Book Club, the Sumter Art Association and served on many state and local boards. She was presented the John R. McKnight Award of Shaw Air Force Base for her work on the U.S.O. Board.

Surviving are one sister, Marian Hixson of Hartsville; four nieces, Barbara Raines, Becky O’Neal, Sharon Zakszeski, and Suzanne Muldrow; one nephew, Steve Hixson.

CRAIG STEPHENS
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Victor Craig Stephens, 66, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2005, in Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Stephens died Thursday, June 30. He was born in Dillon County, son of the late Lawrence Marley Stephens and Wilma Beatrice Martin Stephens. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He had retired as a clerk with CSX Transportation. Mr. Stephens played with many championship softball teams and taught several youth basketball camps. He was a volunteer at McLeod Regional Medical Center and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Dianne Lowry Stephens of Darlington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin Lynn and Joey Schrecker of Mt. Pleasant and Vicki Diane and George Standish of Darlington; granddaughters, Kaley Standish and Lauren Schrecker and grandsons, Jeremy and Thomas Standish; five brothers, Martin “Mert” Stephens, Lawrence “Dority” (Bonnie) Stephens, Ronald “Ronnie” Stephens, Raymond “Tootie” (Faye) Stephens, all of Darlington, and Bobby Stephens of St. Paul, N.C.; also, two sisters, Patricia Buie and Donna Stephens of St. Paul, N.C.

CARROLL STOKES
Graveside services for James Carroll Stokes, 63, were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in the Mt. Elon Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Stokes died on Monday, July 4. He was born in Lydia the son of the late Mineral Edward and Grace Windham Stokes. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company after 42 years, was a member of the Old Timers Club, Savannah Advent Christian Church and the Carolina Trailblazer Saddle Club. Carroll was involved with baseball in the Hartsville area for more than 40 years and helped contribute to the character of many young men today. He was a devoted father, friend and coach.

Surviving are two sons, Yancey Stokes of Florence and Mendel Stokes of Hartsville; two daughters, Wendy Moore of Hartsville, Karen Moore of Savannah, Ga.; 15 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Carolina Hospital System Hospice Care, 121 E. Cedar St., Florence, SC, 29501.

LUTIE A. TODD
BENNETTSVILLE — A memorial service for Lutie Allen Gibbes Todd, 60, was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Marlboro County Humane Society, PO Box 35, or the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 456, Bennettsville, SC 29512.

Mrs. Todd died suddenly Monday, June 27. Born in Marlboro County, she was a daughter of Mrs. Lutie Allen Gibbes and the late James Tyler Gibbes. She was a graduate of St. Andrews College with majors in history and political science. She was a former public school teacher and taught at Thomas Hart Academy in Hartsville. Mrs. Todd was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a former youth director.

Surviving are her mother of Bennettsville, sisters, Rita Paul of Blythewood and Jeanne Dean of Greenville; a step-son, Ricky Todd of Bennettsville; a step-daughter, Gwen Seawell of Winston-Salem, N.C.; an aunt, Elsie Allen Byrd of Hartsville; uncles, David Allen of Hartsville and Fletcher Allen of Franklin, Tenn.; nieces and nephews.

JEANETTE H. BERRY
Funeral services for Louise Jeanette Hill Alexander Berry, 76, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tommy Brown will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight, July 6, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Berry, widow of John Woodham Alexander, died Monday, July 4. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late J. N. and Maggie Watkins Hill. She was a member of South Hartsville Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Chris Alexander, Sammy Alexander, Billy and Thelma Alexander, all of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Bill Tillman of Blackshear, Ga., Ann and Wiley Caudle of Florence, Louise Hoffman, Margaret Kelly, Jane and Johnny Dority, all of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Johnny Grunza of Alaska, Joann and Chandler Rodgers, Emmie Compton, all of Sumter, Margaret Peagler of Rock Hill; brothers and sister-in-law, J. T. and Ruby Lee Hill of Bishopville, Thamar Hill of Hartsville; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

BETTY B. WINBURN
Funeral services for Betty Beasley Winburn, 70, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2005, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. James E. Beck Jr, Hazel Mixon and Dr. Richard Bailey officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Hill cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Winburn died July 2. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Sam and Annie Mixon Beasley.

Surviving are her daughter, Scarlette Hopkins of Hartsville; siblings, Corine Hatchell, Azalie Geise, Joanne McKay, Annie Marie Smothers, Julie Tyner, Samuel (Bud), Johnny and David Beasley; special friend, George Hunter, all of Hartsville; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

FLIP LANE JR.
Funeral services for John P. “Flip” Lane Jr., 61, were held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Howell officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd. Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Mr. Lane died Sunday, July 3, 2005. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late John P. and Sybil Lee Lane.

Surviving are his wife, Frances “Frankie” Kelley Lane of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Susan Lane of Hartsville; grandchildren, Cole Lane and Kristen Lane.

JOHN H. SMITH
Funeral services for John Henry Smith, 58, were held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith died Thursday, June 30, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Marlboro County, a son of the late James and Roena Smith. He received his education in the public schools in the area.

Surviving are a sister, Roena Miller of Hartsville; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

MARTHA SHANNON
McBEE — Funeral services for Martha Shannon, 91, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Galilee Baptist Church in McBee. Burial followed in Pine Forest Memorial cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shannon died Friday, June 29, in Morrell Memorial Nursing Center after an illness. She was born Kershaw County, a daughter of the late General Calhoun and Victoria Jackson. She received her education in the public schools in the area and attended Galilee Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Louella Drayton; three siblings, Marie McFarland and June Elerbee, both of McBee, and Willie Mae Morris of Batesburg; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

VIRGINIA LANGLEY
Graveside services for Virginia Langley, 87, will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at 3 p.m. in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Ms. Langley died Sunday, July 3. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late William T. Langley and Delia Ann McManus Langley Helms.

Surviving are sisters, Mary Dial of Columbia and Jewel Mullins of Hartsville.
