Infant Kylie Jess Hause died on Aug. 20, 2005. Private graveside services were held in Liberty Hill Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Born Aug. 15, 2005, in Florence, she was a daughter of Kyle and Jeannie Wilkes Hause.

Surviving are her father and mother of Hartsville; grandparents, David and Henrietta Price, Gene and Denna Wilkes, Dan and Patty Hause; great-grandparents, Mae E. Wilkes, Russell and Faith Hause, Jack and Eleanor Rastetter; aunts and uncles, William and Crystal Jordan, Jackie Hause.

JERRY S. DOUGHTY
Funeral services for Jerry Stanley Doughty, 55, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. The Rev. Kathy Campbell officiated, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506, or The Pilot Club, c/o Janie Cambell, 2045 E. Carolina Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mr. Doughty died Friday, Aug. 19. He was born in Florence, a son of the late John Harold and Bessie Lou Tarte Doughty. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Florence. He attended McClenaghan High School in Florence, and was graduated from The Citadel. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force and obtained a master’s degree in engineering, a MBA from the University of South Carolina after leaving the Air Force, and retired from Sonoco as an engineer.

Surviving are his wife, Olivia G. Doughty of Hartsville; son, Trent Doughty of Columbia; daughter, Kimberly D. Newsome of Hartsville; brother, John H. Doughty of Cary, N.C.; grandson, Graham Pinner Newsome; special friends, Theresa Sanderford and Jean Dennis. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Touchberry.

VICTORIA B. REGISTER
FLORENCE — Funeral arrangements for Victoria Ballard Register, widow of Elton Register, were held 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at the chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Register joined friends and family who had gone before her on Saturday, Aug. 20. The Lord stretched out his hand and took her home to be with him. She was daughter of the late Clarence and Helen Bosontea Ballard.

Mrs. Register was born on Dec. 9, 1953. She had taught in several schools in the state before beginning her tenure at Wilson High School in Florence District 1. Vicky loved teaching and strived to do the best for her students. She was a loyal employee of Wilson High School and thought of Wilson as her family. She will be greatly missed because of her enthusiasm for teaching, her honesty and her humor.

Mrs. Register is survived by her uncles and aunts, Milas and Annie Mae Ballard and Brooks (Pete) and Mary Ballard; several cousins. Also to cherish her memory, is a special “sister” and friend, Melva Atkinson, and special friends, Greg and Pam Carlson. She will be sorely missed by friends, students, family and her faithful animal companions.

DAVID E. BROWN
DARLINGTON — Graveside services for David Eugene “Gene” Brown, 83, with full military honors, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, in Grove Hill cemetery. The service was conducted by the Revs. Michael Bell and David Myers, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers were the Asbury Men’s Bible Class of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mr. Brown was born in Sumter, a son of the late George Washington and Addie Belvin Brown. He graduated from Edmund High School in Sumter where he lettered four years in baseball and football. He also played on the state championship high school football team in 1939. While in high school, Mr. Brown played American Legion baseball for four years. After completing high school, he continued his education at Wofford College and while there, he lettered in football, joined the Terrier Club and graduated in 1947.

During college, Mr. Brown married Eliza Henry Brown. He joined the Army and began a service to his country that would span over two decades encompassing both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Brown earned the Combat Infantry Badge in Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star in combat in World War II. He retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Brown worked for the health department for 15 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities and was a member of the Asbury Men’s Bible Class.

Mr. Brown was a charter member of the Darlington Rotary Club, a member of St. David’s Masonic Lodge No. 72 AFM, the American Legion and the Darlington Lion’s Club.

Mr. Brown was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, three brothers, George W. Brown Jr., Lawrence B. Brown and James B. Brown; and one sister, Marie B. Jones.

Survivors include one son, David E. Brown Jr. of Darlington; one daughter, Emily S. Brown of Folly Beach; three sisters-in-law, Frances Henry Dunbar of Spartanburg, Nancy Baker Brown of Darlington and Gladys L. Henry of Cowpens; three grandchildren, Kyle Sullivan Brown, Emily Eliza Still and David Anderson Still, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Youth Fund, PO Box 16, Darlington, SC 29540.

LORETTA B. MULDROW
Funeral services for Loretta B. Muldrow, 84, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

Mrs. Muldrow died Thursday, Aug. 18, at her residence after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Arthur and Lethal Williams Bryant. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system and was a member of Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Obbie Dell Hook of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Bobby Joe Muldrow and Frank Kenny Muldrow of Hartsville; four sisters, Doll B. Mack and Irene Reddick, both of Bishopville, Annie Sue Johnson and Christine Bryant, both of Hartsville; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Bryant and Anna Bryant, both of Hartsville; one brother-in-law, W. M. Muldrow of McBee; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

CLAUDIA C. ALFORD
BRITTONS NECK — Funeral services for Claudia Chandler Alford, 87, were held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at Central United Methodist Church with the Revs. Farrell Cox and Virgil Seaber officiating. Burial followed in Old Neck cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Alford, widow of Henry H. Alford, died Friday, Aug. 19, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born on June 2, 1918 in Williamsburg County, the daughter of the late George Franklin Chandler and the late Lela Davis Chandler. She was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Andra Risinger of Charleston, Carol (Mike) Edwards of Hartsville, Darlene Baxley of Rock Hill and Donna Driggers of Marion; her grandchildren, Delaine Driggers Slusser, Travis Alford Driggers, Benji Risinger, Allison Baxley, Matthew Baxley, Milissa Baxley and Carmen Edwards; and a sister, Clara Lee Snowden of Darlington.

GWENDOLYN B. EVANS
Funeral services for Gwendolyn B. Evans, 69, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends this evening, Aug. 24, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Evans died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late David and Anges M. Bacote. She received her education in the public schools in the area. She was a retired employee of North Hartsville Elementary School of 30 years.

Mrs. Evans was a member of Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of several church auxiliaries, Senior Choir, Missionary Society, Usher Board, Young Ladies Society, Eastern Star, Pastor Aide, Joint Stock and Adult Choir.

Surviving are her husband, Fred Evans Jr. of Hartsville; seven daughters, Kathy (Bobby) Lawson of Darlington, Lenora (Eddie) Toney and Victoria Evans, both of Hartsville, Brenda (Glenn) Mack of Memphis, Tenn., Veronica Wilson, Sheneal Samuel and Dierdre Samuel, all of Washington, D.C.; one son, Larry (Barbara) Evans of Hartsville; one godson, Barry Thompson of Hartsville; two sisters, Lila (Harmon) Evans of Hartsville and Teola (Eugene) Valentine of Washington, D.C.; one brother, David (Jincy B.) Bacote of Washington, D.C.; two brothers-in-law, Willie Evans Sr. and Robert (Anna Laura) Evans, both of Hartsville; three sisters-in-law, Eula Thompson, Annie Lee (Clarence) Ings and Fannie Bonaparte, all of Hartsville; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

HARVEY T. GAINEY
Services for Harvey T. Gainey, 81, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Milton G. Frazier officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be this evening, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gainey, who died Aug. 23, was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Boyd W. and Sue Byrd Gainey. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Marie Moore Gainey; son, Preston Gainey; grandsons, Jesse Gainey, all of Hartsville, Nathan Gainey of Charleston; brother, G. Donald Gainey of Hartsville.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Gainey.

LESLIE WRIGHT
Funeral services for Leslie Wright, 58, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 24, 2005, at Green Hill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Wright died Sunday, Aug. 21, at his residence after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Raymond Vinson and Lucille Lee Wright. He received his education in the public schools in the area and graduated from Butler High School. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are one sister, Joanne Johnson of Columbia; two brothers, Marvin Wright of Hartsville and Allen Vinson of Beaufort; one sister-in-law, Lillian Wright; five aunts, Alta Mae Lee and Inez (Wesley) Mack, both of Hartsville, Ruby Fisher and Lela Baxter, both of Baltimore, Md., and Retha Samuel of Connecticut; one uncle, Willie Vinson of Columbia, Md.; three close cousins, Nannie Ruth Lee, Naomi Woodham and Willie James (Sandy) Lee, all of Hartsville; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

ANNIE FRESHLEY
Funeral services for Annie Mae Freshley, 83, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Second Baptist Church. Burial followed in Bethel Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Bethune, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Freshley died Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Kershaw County, a daughter of the late James and Mary Jane Fletcher McKnight. She received her education in the public schools in the area and was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Jean (the Rev. Dr. S.J.) Young, Evelyn Freshley and Linda Ann Freshley, all of Hartsville; four sisters, Isabel Rowe of Durham, N.C., Othelia McGill of Miami, Fla., Mattie Lee Peoples of Baltimore, Md., and Sara Huggins of McBee; one brother, Jimmie (Cynthia) Dinkins of Bethune; two sisters-in-law, Wilda Mayo of Albany, N.Y., and Elease Freshley of Detroit, Mich.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

VIRGINIA S. BOARD
CHERAW — Funeral services for Virginia “Jenny” S. Board, 66, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Cheraw with burial in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, directed by Kiser Funeral Home of Cheraw. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 337, Cheraw, SC 29520.

Mrs. Board died Monday, Aug. 22. Born in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late Willie Joshua and Annie Mae Hall Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church, teacher of the third grade Sunday school class for 10 years and Senior Circle volunteer for the Thrift Sore for the Episcopal Church.

Survivors are her husband, William R. “Buddy” Board of Cheraw; daughters, Elaine B. Hodges of Hartsville, Laurie B. Jordan of Conway; brothers, Lynwood Smith and Willie J. Smith Jr., both of Hartsville; sisters, Hazel S. Platt of West Columbia, Bobbie S. Linton of Kernersville, N.C., Joyce S. Gainey of Patrick, Phyllis Teague of Lowell, N.C., Wanda S. Melton of Simpsonville and one grandchild.

IRENE GLENN
Funeral services for Irene Glenn, 70, will be held at 12 p.m. today, Aug. 24, 2005, at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Ms. Glenn died Tuesday, Aug. 16, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Georgeanna Ellis. She received her education in the public schools in the area and was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Survivors are two sons, Larry (Lillie) Davis and Criag Muldrow, both of Hartsville; two sisters, Leola (David) Eaddy of Marion and Lizzie Lee Davis of Hartsville; one brother, George Ellis of Hartsville; three step-granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other close relatives and friends.

MILTON B. POOLE
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Milton Brett Poole, 46, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at Bethel United Methodist Church. The Rev. James W. Thompson officiated the service, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Poole died Thursday, Aug.18. Born in Houma, La., he was a son of Coleen Hayes Poole and the late Milton A. Poole. He was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Bennettsville. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was employed with Health South for many years.

Surviving are his sons, Jonathan Poole and Cameron Poole, both of Darlington; daughter, Aubrey Poole of Darlington; mother of Hartsville; sisters, Clara Evans, Tammy Marsh and Debbi Thompson, all of Hartsville; brothers, Jeffrey Poole of Hartsville, Chris Poole of Charlotte, N.C., and the Rev. James W. Thompson of Blythewood. He was preceded in death by his brother Mike Thompson.

DIANE DRIGGERS
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Cynthia Diane Powell Driggers, 51 were held held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at Central Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tim Coker. Interment followed at 4 p.m. in New Prospect cemetery, Hannah, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Ms. Driggers died Thursday, Aug. 18, in a Florence hospital. She was born in Florence County, daughter of J. E. Powell and the late Johnnie Ard Powell. She was a member of the National Honor Society during high school and was manager of guest services at Breakers Resort in Myrtle Beach. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her father of Darlington, are two sons, Bobby Driggers of Darlington and Joey (Mandy) Driggers of Lamar; granddaughter, Maggie Driggers; brother, Jeffrey Powell of Darlington; sister-in-law, Tammie Powell of Conway; and niece, Cassie Powell also of Conway.

Ms. Driggers was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Powell McRae.
