Graveside services for Lilly Mae Berry Wallace, 88, will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at New Market United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Mitch Ingram will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends this evening, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wallace, widow of Henry Joseph Wallace, died Monday, Aug. 22. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late John and Lilly Smothers Berry. She was a member of New Market United Methodist Church. She loved her husband, family and friends. She was retired from Nitronics.

Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Jo Ann Winburn, Mary and Paul Holloman, Janie and Jerry O’Neal, all of Hartsville; brother, George Berry of Weirsdale, Fl.; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Charles Avery McBerayer.

She was preceded in death by her son, Edward Wallace, her daughters, Mildred Parnell and Vivian Wallace, and her son-in-law, Raeford Winburn.

CAROLINE TERRY
Funeral services for Caroline Boles Terry, 20, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Revs. DeVere Williams and Toney Medlin will officiate, with burial in Hebron United Methodist Church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, Aug. 26, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Caroline B. Terry Transplant Fund, c/o SPC Cooperative Credit Union, 204 N. Fifth St., Hartsville, or The Marrow Foundation’s National Donor Registry (NMDP) – Caroline B. Terry Donor Awareness Fund, 400 Seventh St., N.W. Ms. Terry died Monday, Aug. 22. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of H. Nelson and Judy Gowan Terry and Z. Glenn and Rebecca Skinner-Fulmer.

Surviving are her father and step-mother of Spartanburg; mother and step-father of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jada and Jerry Nadeau of Mooresville, N.C., Mark and Deana Tucker of Spartanburg; brothers, Z. Glenn Fulmer III, Benjamin F. Skinner III, both of Hartsville; special aunts and uncles, John Robert and Suzanne Beasley of Hartsville, Richard L. and Deborah Galloway Sr. of Hartsville, Latson F. and Millicent Munn of Columbia, Daniel C. and Deborah Fulmer Robinson of Vero Beach, Fla., Sue Terry Gilbert of Spartanburg, Merinda Terry of Spartanburg; paternal grandparents, Lula Boles Terry of Spartanburg, Juanita Gowan of Spartanburg; maternal grandparents, Benjamin F. and Pat Mitchum Skinner, Jr. of Hartsville, Sarah Martyn Woodham Skinner of Hartsville, former S.C. Rep. Zack G. and Linda Williams Fulmer Sr. of Aiken, and Vero Beach, Fla., L. D. “Grandma Dot” Galloway of Hartsville.

She was preceded in death by her uncles, Roy Gilbert and Tommy Terry, and her paternal grandparents, James H. Terry and W. S. Gowan.

RANDY CATOE
Services for Randy Catoe, 58, will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at 11 a.m. at New Market United Methodist Church. The Revs. Scott Petry and John Griggs will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be this evening, Aug. 26, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Catoe, who died Aug. 25, was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Rudolph V. and Constance Sumner Catoe. He was a member of New Market United Methodist Church. Surviving are daughters, Dawn Catoe, Angie Gainey, Tonya Spell, all of Hartsville; sons, Ricky Catoe of Hartsville, Dac Catoe of Murrells Inlet; brother, Rudy Catoe; sisters, Gayle Russ and Wanda Johnson, both Hartsville; 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Speight Catoe.

RHETT HILL
LAMAR — Funeral services for Roland Rhett Hill, 73, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, Lamar, officiated by the Rev. Tom Brown and Dr. Thomas Willard Hill. Interment will follow in Lamar Memorial cemetery.

Mr. Hill died Wednesday, Aug. 24. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Thomas Roland and Pearl Huggins Hill. He served his country in the United States Army and was a disabled veteran. Mr. Hill was a resident of Commander Nursing Home where he received attentive care. He joined Lamar First Baptist Church at an early age and continued to be ministered to by his church during his declining years.

Surviving are one brother, Dr. Thoms Willard (Connie) Hill of Ruidoso, N.M.; three sisters, Annie L. (John) Stewart of Summerton, Betty H. Kirby Kelly of Florence and Priscilla (Bill) Bochette of Florence; also several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home in Lamar.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.

JEANETTE SELLERS
Funeral services for Jeanette McDonald Sellers, 83, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 26, 2005, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Charles Nicholson will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery. Memorials may be made to Morton Presbyterian Church, 1068 Morton Circle, Hartsville, SC 29950 or Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 2236 Bethlehem Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Sellers, widow of Gene Sellers, died Wednesday, Aug. 24. Born in Moore County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Duncan Evander and Eliza Deese McDonald. She was a member of Morton Presbyterian Church and the Moose Lodge. She was retired from the Forest Products Division of Sonoco Products Co. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Surviving are her son, David Sellers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Billy Sherrill of Hartsville; sisters, Mary Allen of Southern Pines, N.C., Kathleen (Paul) Foley of Augusta, Ga., Jessie Allred of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Bill (Margaret) McDonald of Southern Pines, N.C.; grandchilren, Melissa Sorg, Bill (Melissa) Sherrill, Jeff (April) Sherrill; great-grandchildren, Christopher Sorg, Bryson Sherrill; special friends, Pearl and H. B. Hunt, Tricia and Charles Small and Lou Adams.

DAVID S. WILSON
Memorial services for David Stanley Wilson, 44, were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Hartsville Advent Christian Church. Mr. Wilson was born in Walterboro, son of the late Paul Wilson Sr. and Margaret Maxey Wilson. Surviving are his sister, Ottie Wilson, and brother, Paul Wilson Jr., both of Hartsville.

JACK AMMONS
GREER — Graveside services for Knox Livingston “Jack” Ammons, 78, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 31, 2005, in Wood Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. John Rush.

Mr. Ammons died Sunday, Aug. 28, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was the widower of Ruth Richard Ammons. A native of Darlington County, he was a son of the late Mary Boone Ammons and Knox L. Ammons Sr. Mr. Ammons was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Gupton Jones College of Embalming and was a long-time employee of Wood Mortuary as a funeral director and embalmer.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam (Harold) James of Greer and Debbie (John) Phillips of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Miriam (Jack) Alford of Hartsville; a sister-in-law, Joyce Ammons of Hartsville; five grandchildren, Brad Phillips, Todd Phillips, Keely Phillips, Greg James, Libba James and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, J.B. Ammons.

Pallbearers will be Todd Phillips, Brad Phillips, John Phillips, Harold James, Greg James and Ralph Clement.

Honorary escort will be the staff of Wood Mortuary.

WILLIAM H. HAMLETT
William Haywood “Hayes” Hamlett of Bozeman, Mont., died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, in his home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1980, in Greenville, to Martha and William C. Hamlett Jr., who now reside in Granger, Ind. He attended Ottawa Hills Elementary School in Toldeo, Ohio, from kindergarten through fifth grade before moving to Indiana and graduating from Penn High School in 1998. He began his college education at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he spent all but his sophomore year. That year he attended Indiana University, Bloomington. Having about another year of classes to go to attain his degree, but needing a break, he moved to Bozeman where he worked for a year and a half until his untimely death Monday.

He played recreational soccer throughout his school years and especially enjoyed his year as a percussionist, starting in fifth grade at Ottawa Hills and finishing with the Penn High Marching Band. His father and he enjoyed several years of international travel together. A very special love of his was snowboarding, which he avidly pursued while in Colorado and Montana. Hayes had an enthusiasm for life which will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his parents; his sister, Kathleen who lives in Mishawaka, Ind., and a brother, Alex, who currently attends Purdue University; his grandparents, Jane and Kirk Dunlap Jr. of Hartsville and Dorothy and William C. Hamlett Sr. of Smithfield, N.C.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services for Glen Calhoun “Joe” Collins Sr., 42, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Aug. 31, 2005, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tim Cole will officiate with burial in Black Creek cemetery.

Mr. Collins died Monday, Aug. 29. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Barney C. and Mildred Oline Cagle Collins.

Surviving are his sons, Glen Calhoun “Little Joe” Collins Jr. of Hartsville, Chris Griggs of Hartsville; daughters, Heather Collins of Hartsville, Christen Collins of Hartsville; sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Ronnie Gainey of Hartsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Suzzane Collins of Hartsville, Harold and Dianne Collins of Hartsville; fiancé, Kathryn Griggs. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Collins.

HAZEL LEE GIBSON
Funeral services for Hazel Lee Byrd Gibson, 51, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 31, 2005, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gibson died Sunday, Aug. 28, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Shirley Littles Byrd and the late Harold Byrd Sr. She received her education in the public schools in the area and was a graduate of Butler High School. She was also a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was a former employee of Morrell Nursing Center.

Surviving are her mother, Shirley L. Byrd of Hartsville; three daughters, Felecia (Kenyatta) Brown and Monica Gibson, both of Hartsville, and Amanda (Richard) Washington of Florence; one son, Henry Gibson Jr. of Hartsville; five sisters, Delores (Paisley) Nickelson, Doris (Jimmy) Peebles, Diane (James) Phillips, Sandra (Darren) Byrd and Tina Byrd, all of Hartsville; three brothers, Harold Byrd Jr., Anthony (Sandra) Byrd and Dexter Byrd, all of Hartsville; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and friends.

JOE TUMBLESTON
Funeral services for Joe S. Tumbleston will be held at 4 p.m. today, Aug. 31, 2005, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Gary Colboch and the Rev. Billy Campbell will officiate with burial in Pine Ridge Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mr. Tumbleston died Sunday, Aug. 28. Born in Charleston, he was a son of the late Joseph and Nettie Jennings Tumbleston. He was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church and was retired from National Welders as a district manager. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and former president of the Scurry Hunting Club. He loved his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Calsman Tumbleston of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Jeri Tumbleston of Summerville, Bill and Carol Kirven of Myrtle Beach; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Dickie White of Hartsville; brothers, Donald Tumbleston of Cottageville, Edgar Tumbleston of Hollywood, Ernie “E. T.” Tumbleston of Hollywood; grandchildren, Austin White, Landon White, Kaylee White, Eric Tumbleston and Craig Tumbleston.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Marion Tumbleston, and his sister, Louise Young.

JESSIE E. GAINEY
Services for Jessie E. “Buddy” Gainey, 72, will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Piney Plain Free Will Baptist Church. The Revs. Nathan Barrington, William Griggs and Vernon Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be today, Aug. 31, at the residence, 2636 Patrick Highway.

Mr. Gainey, who died Aug. 30, was born in Hartsville, a son of the late James I. and Fannie Skipper Gainey. He was a member of Piney Plain Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Griggs Gainey; son and daughter-in-law, James Edward and Faye Gainey; granddaughters, Lynn and Kelly Gainey; siblings, Jennings Gainey, Louise Oneal, all of Hartsville, and Dorothy Locklear of Norwood, N.C.

WILLIE MAE JOHNSON
Funeral services for Willie Mae Johnson, 73, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at Centenary United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Johnson, died Saturday, Aug. 27, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Will and Bernetha Jackson Clair. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system and was a graduate of Butler High School. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Ethel (Johnny) Price, Shirley (Stanley Rogers) Thompson, Althea (Earl) Hannibal, Teressa Johnson and Aletha Johnson, all of Hartsville; two sons, Kenneth Clair and Robbie (Jeanette) Johnson of Hartsville; one sister, Letha M. Clair of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Marsha D. Clair of Hartsville; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of other close relatives and friends.

MYRTLE W. NORMENT
Funeral services for Myrtle White Norment, 85, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 213 W. Home Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.

Mrs. Norment, widow of Randolph M. Norment Jr., died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005. Born in Hannah, she was a daughter of the late Claude Richardson and Sudie Collins White. She graduated from Lander College and taught high school history and coached basketball at Johnsonville, Timmonsville and St. John’s in Darlington. She moved to Hartsville in 1954 and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Lou and Vicki Will Norment of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jim Money of Hartsville; sisters, Mae Eva McAlister of Hannah, Devon Turner of Lexington, Betty Altman of Lake City; brother, David White of Hannah; grandchildren, Jennifer Money, Paul Money, Daniel Money, Caroline Norment and Louis Norment. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Stanley White and Harry White and sisters, Jessie Lou Gaskins and Ruby Eaddy.

MARGARET CULPEPPER
Services for Mary Margaret Culpepper, 96, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Colboch and Cathy Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Swift Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Miss Culpepper died on Friday, Aug. 26. She was born in Darlington, a daughter of the late Robert Berry and Chellie James Culpepper. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Eunice P. and Jake Hoffman, Robert and Evelyn Privette, Rollins and Nancy Culpepper, all of Hartsville, Joyce P. Craven of Powder Springs, Ga., Frances Culpepper, Charlotte, N.C., Dale and Casey Jones, Merritt Island, Fla., Ben and Usular Culpepper, and Ethelene Nelson, both of Charleston; several great- and great-great nieces and nephews; two special children, Nicholas and Heather Stephens of Lamar. Special thanks to Morrell Nursing Home and Hospice of the Pee Dee for their tender care. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.

HELEN BROWN
Funeral services for Helen Brown, 89, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 2, 2005, at Second Baptist Church. Burial will immediately follow in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church cemetery, with services conducted by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown died Monday, Aug. 29, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late George and Julia Hines Wingate. She received her education in the public schools in the area. She was a former member of Second Baptist Church until recently she joined Faith Unity Church of Deliverance.

Surviving are five daughters, Apostle Christine Moses, Bertha Mae Brown, Yvonne Brown and Carolyn (Leroy) Pompey, all of Hartsville, Lucy Mae Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; five sons, George Brown Jr., Johnny (Lizzie) Brown, Harry Brown, Sylvester (Lou Ella) Brown and Robert David Brown, all of Hartsville; one sister, Mae Ruth Hough of Darlington; one daughter-in-law, Doris Brown of Hartsville; 43 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, 37 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
