TRACY TOLSON
PATRICK - Services for Tracy Tolson, 77, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, from Brown Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Church cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville.

Mr. Tolson, who died Aug. 31, was born in Hartsville, a son of the late John Franklin and Henrietta Gainey Tolson. He was a member of Brown Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Helen (Harold) Winburn, Trudy (Gene) Chisholm, Edna White and Ricky Atkinson, Jessie (Leandro) Pacheco, all of Patrick; special friend, Catherine Gainey of Hartsville; step-children, Marie Welch, Faye Weatherford, Charlie and Monroe Gainey, all of Hartsville; nine grandchildren; three great -grandchildren.

CLARA A. NUNNERY
Mrs. Clara Arrants Nunnery, widow of Woodrow W. Nunnery, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005. Brown in Kershaw, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Murray Arrants.

Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, Woodrow W. and Kathy Nunnery of Columbia, William M. Nunnery of Hartsville, Douglas R. and Ellen Nunnery of Eden, N.C.; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara N. Fagnant of Milwaukee, Wis., Sandy and Larry Brown of Anderson, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge.

FLOSSIE E. HUDSON
Funeral services for Flossie Elizabeth Kelley Hudson, 74, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at First Church of the Nazarene. The Revs. Darryl J. Bogatay, John W. Griggs, III and Greggory B. Griffin officiated with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 1909 West BoBo Newsom Highway, Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Hudson, widow of Barney Cleo Hudson Sr., died Friday, Sept. 2. Born in Darlington County, she was daughter of the late John Riley and Lizzie Outlaw Kelley. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and was a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Barney Cleo and Eva Hudson Jr. of Hartsville, Thomas Riley and Teresa Hudson Jr. of Hartsville; sisters and brother-in-law, Jesse Mae and Bill Lunn of Amelia Co., Va.; Loretta Tadlock of Darlington; grandchildren, Michelle Ritenour, Barney C. Hudson III, Mary Wells and Lane Hudson; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Hudson, Chase Hudson, Trent Ritenour, Hunter Ritenour and Branson Wells. She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Coates and brother, Jimmy Kelley.

JIMMY DOUGLAS
Graveside services for Jimmy Douglas, 67, will be Tuesday at 5 p.m. from the New Market United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Darryl Bogatay will officiate.

Mr. Douglas, who died Sept. 4, was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Frank Lee and Annie Mae Hawkins Douglas. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. after 41 years of service, was a member of the Old Timers Club, member of the First Church of The Nazarene, where he was a Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are his wife, Patsy Watkins Douglas; sons and daughter-in-laws: Ricky and Lori Douglas, Donnie and Tammy Douglas and Jody and Renee Douglas, all of Hartsville; five grandchildren, Amber Douglas and husband D. Brown, Blake, Ryon, Ashley and Jayme Douglas, all of Hartsville; sisters, Frances Odom and Margie Douglas, both of Darlington; Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 East Cheves St., Florence, S.C. 29506; First Church of The Nazarene, 1904 West Bobo Newsom Hwy. Hartsville, S.C. 29550; or the American Cancer Society, 2216 Clareview Dr., Florence, S.C.29505.

CLAUDE GARDNER JR.
McBEE– Services for Claude M. Gardner Jr., 57, were held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, from Gum Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Gardner officiating. Burial was held in the Gum Branch cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel.

Mr. Gardner, who died Saturday, Sept. 3, was born in McBee, a son of Malissa Rogers Gardner and the late Claude M. Gardner Sr. He was employed with Sara Lee and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Herring Gardner, McBee; mother of McBee; sons, Lester (Tammy) Gardner, Bishopville and Joe Gardner, McBee; daughters: Missy Gardner, Tammy (Buddy) Atkinson, Bishopville and Lynn (Chase) Pardee, Heath Springs; mother-in-law: Mary Lue Herring, Bishopville; sisters: Hattie Edwards and Sylvia Horton, McBee and Virginia Demby, Mt. Pisgah, brothers: Randy, Gilliam and Claude Gardner, McBee; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Claude M. Gardner III, and a sister, Minnie Ola Kelly.

BETTY M. LEEDER
Services for Betty Morrison Leeder, 65, were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Brown officiated. Burial was in the New Market Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Morrison, who died Aug. 31, was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late James Carson Morrison Sr. and Nita Marie Truett Morrison. Surviving are her husband, George Leeder of Swainsboro, Ga.; daughters, Terri Lynn Leeder, Debbie Neal, both of Swainsboro, Ga.; granddaughter, Jessica Neal of Swainsboro, Ga.; sister, Jerry Stewart Dalton of Hartsville; brothers, Bud Morrison of Dalton, Ga., and James Morrison Jr. of Anderson.

DANNY D. FINLEY
Memorial services for Danny D. Finley, 55, who died Sept. 1, 2005, were held Saturday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. at Hartsville Church of God.

Mr. Finley was born in Columbia a son of the late Douglas and Helen Smith Finley.

Surviving is an uncle, Franklin Smith of Hartsville; little special friend, Brooke Syvester of Hartsville and several cousins.

CHARLEE McGEE
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Charlee Elizabeth McGee were held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Grove Hill cemetery, officiated by Pastor Frankie Tanner and directed by Belk Funeral Home. Charlee, four-month old daughter of Charles L. McGee Sr. and Beth Norwood Atkinson, died Sept. 1. Surviving in addition to her parents of Florence are a half-brother, Charles McGee, and half-sister, Kayla Nicole McGee, both of Florence; maternal grandparents, Olivia and Andrew “Taz” Baird of Society Hill; paternal grandparents, Johnny and Gracie McGee of Florence; uncle, Brandon J. Alexander of Darlington; and aunt, Johnnie Mae McGee Brown of Florence.

MILDRED RAINES
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Mildred Howle Raines, 60, were held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Elim United Methodist Church cemetery in Oates Community, officiated by Pastor Todd Parrish and directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Raines died Wednesday, Aug. 31. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of Phoebe Flowers Howle and the late Otis Howle. She was a housewife and enjoyed watching tennis. Mrs. Raines was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving in addition to her mother of Darlington, are her husband, Bobby Raines of Darlington; son, Steven Izer of Darlington; daughter, Shannon Raines also of Darlington; grandson, Cameron Moody; brother, Marion (Claudia) Howle of Florence; and two sisters, Shirley Howle and Cathy Howle, both of Hartsville.

VIRGINIA HANCOCK
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Virginia Weaver Hancock, 81, were held 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, in Grove Hill cemetery, conducted by Jessie and Pastor Frankie Tanner and directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hancock died Wednesday, Aug. 31. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Matt and Pauline Blackmon Weaver. She was married to the late James E. Hancock. She was a housewife and enjoyed NASCAR. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her son, James W. Hancock of Darlington; two sisters, Shirley (W. L.) Stanton and Joyce W. Lloyd, both of Darlington; also a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian W. Howle.

Memorials are suggested to McLeod Hospice, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.

BERTHA MAE GAINEY
Services for Bertha Mae Gainey, 60, were held 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Burial was in the Black Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Gainey, who died Sept. 1, was born in Darlington, a daughter of the late Wesley and Ethel Gainey Cagle. Surviving are a daughter, Paula (Duane) Baker; sons, Paul (Jody) Gainey Sr., Paul (Christen) Gainey Jr.; brothers: James Cagle, William (Bill) Cagle, Steve (Buddy) Cagle, all of Hartsville; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Wesley Gainey; a grandchild, Charles Clifton Gainey; siblings, Larry Cagle, Thomas (Tootsie) Cagle, Beatrice Bell, Milldred Collins and Frances Griggs.

MATTIE B. SMITH
TIMMONSVILLE – Funeral services for Mattie Barfield Smith, 69, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 9, 2005, at Kannaday’s Funeral Home in Dillon, with burial in Greenlawn cemetery.

Mrs. Smith, widow of Sandy Camerson Smith, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, at her residence. She was born in Latta on Oct. 24, 1935, a daughter of the late John Earl and Minnie Elizabeth Rowell Barfield. For many years she was a foster parent, and served on the Board of Foster Parents, as well as a homemaker. Mrs. Smith was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Angela Smith (John James) Russ of Florence, Tanya Smith (Anthony) Langston of Timmonsville, Sheila Smith Tyner and Lisa G. Smith, both of Hartsville; a brother, Johnny (LeVerne) Barfield of Latta; grandchildren, Mathew and Olivia Smith, Mark Smith, Christon Russ and Johnathon Russ.

A son, Robin Cameron Smith, and sister, Elizabeth Kirby, predeceased her in death.

FRANKLIN H. SUGGS
DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Franklin H. Suggs, 59, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at Indian Branch United Methodist Church with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Suggs was born in Darlington County, son of Mary Whittle Suggs and the late Charlie Suggs. He served his country with the United States Army and had retired after 25 years from the City of Florence Fire Department. He was a member of the Florence Bassmasters Club and Indian Branch United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother of Darlington, are his wife, Toni Lee Suggs of Darlington; two sons, McIver (Kim) Suggs and Chris (Nikki) Suggs, both of Darlington; six grandchildren, Ryan and Mati Rushing, Madison and Trinity Suggs, and Brody and Brittany Kirby; two sisters, Sylvia (Cecil) Chandler and Mollie Johnson, both of Darlington; three brothers, Ronnie (Janice) Suggs of Hartsville; Steve Suggs and Charlie Boykin, both of Darlington; and mother-in-law, Peggy McKenzie.

Mr. Suggs was preceded in death by a sister, LaRue Odom.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. tonight, Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, SC Chapter, P. O. Box 23128, Columbia, SC 29224-3128.

DAVID KING
Funeral services for Maxie David King, 55, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at the First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Darryl J. Bogatay officiated and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 1909 W. BoBo Newsome Highway, Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mr. King died Saturday, Sept. 10. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Verlee Odom King Lambert and the late George Maxie King. He was owner and operator of King’s Wrecker and Body Shop.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Cynthia “Cynde” Lane King of Hartsville; daughter, Anna King of Hartsville; mother of Hartsville; sister, Janet Fish of Moncure, N.C.; brother, Gary Michael King of Hartsville; and his faithful dog, Chip.

CLYDE D. GRANT
Funeral services for Clyde Douglas (Doug) Grant, 65, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 14, 2005, at Forest Hills Independent Baptist Church. Burial will be in Westview cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Doug was born in Lee County a son of the late Clarence Olin and Gertrude America Younger Grant. He was a member of the Forest Hills Independent Baptist Church and an Air Force veteran. Doug serviced the Hartsville and surrounding areas for more than 40 years with his ceramic tile and flooring business.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Louise Smith Grant of Hartsville; one son, James (Jim) Douglas Grant of Hartsville; three daughters, Shirley June Outlaw of Santee, Paula Susan Grant and Olin Gertrude Lin Grant of Hartsville; one brother, Johnny Grant of Hartsville; two sisters, Jean Elmore of Hartsville and Patsy Ruth Kirby of Camden; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.

JACK T. LINTON
SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for Jack Tracey “Breezy” Linton, 69, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, in Welsh Neck Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Mark Quigley. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Mr. Linton died Friday, Sept. 9. He was born in Chesterfield County and was the son of Rosia Nevell and Dorsie Mae Godfrey Linton. He attended Welsh Neck Baptist Church all of his life. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and giving away Pepsi-Colas, as well as, working in the yard and visiting his friends at Hill’s Grocery. Mr. Linton also attended the Scott Center.

Survivors include his aunt and care giver, Minnie L. Cope of the home; a half-brother, Andy Linton of Cheraw; and five half-sisters, Cindy (Joe) Stafford, Gail (Richard) Furr, Brenda (Bud) Sims, Diane (Buddy) Burr, all of Cheraw and Sue (Pete) Hall of Indian Trail, N.C. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Joseph Lee Cope.
