CHAPEL LIGHTY SR.
On Thursday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2005, a death angel came to Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center and bore the bright spirit of Chapel J.L. Lighty to his eternal home.

Mr. Lighty was the oldest of six children born to the late Jourmany and Ruby Davis-Lighty Malloy on Nov. 12, 1931. He was a native of Bishopville, where he attended the public schools of Lee and Darlington counties.

He was joined in holy matrimony to the late Miss Ida Mae Addison. This union was nourished with love and blessed with three children.

His work history began in Darlington County where he was employed by Royster-Clark (formerly known as The Fertilizer Mill) in Hartsville. Later, he moved to Bronx, N. Y., where he began working for Medpot Steel Corporation and Russell Metal Company, Carlstadt, New Jersey. Later, he and his brother, Felton, worked together for P.I. Nemiroff Corporation where he was employed as a foreman. Mr. Lighty never enjoyed the role of employee and ended his work history as an entrepreneur in Harlem, N.Y., Bronx, N.Y., and South Carolina.

In his youth, he joined Sandy Bluff United Methodist Church and was an active member throughout his teenage years. In his adult life, he became a member and deacon at Salvation Deliverance Church in New York City. Upon his return to South Carolina, he reunited with Sandy Bluff United Methodist Church serving in the following capacities: adult Sunday school teacher, lay speaker, member of the Trustee Board, choir member, as well as various other organizations. Chapel 's happiest moments were when he had the opportunity to teach and be with the youth in his church.

Later, he married his present wife, Virginia, whom he loved and adored. Mr. Lighty is described by his children as the 'best father ' anyone could have. He was also a kind-hearted and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him. His presence from among us will surely be missed.

Continuing his legacy, the precious memory of Mr. Chapel Lighty Sr. will forever be cherished by his wife, Virginia Lighty of Hartsville, his daughter, Angela (Jerome) Lighty-Jones of Columbia; his sons, Chapel (Sephera) Lighty Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., and Randolph (Wanda) Lighty of Bronx, N.Y.; his stepsons, Jack Gadsden and Bernard (Kenya) Gadsden both of Bronx, N.Y.; four brothers, Felton (Ernestine) Lighty and Jourmany (Ann) Lighty both of Hartsville, Dr. Charles (Lucille) Lighty of Florence, and the Rev.
