PATRICK — Services for James E. (Show Man) Jordan, 75, were held 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Jordan, who died Oct. 1, was born in Patrick, a son of the late Henry Dargan and Minnie Lewis Jordan.

Surviving are a brother, Henry Jordan of Patrick; a step-son, Grady Teal; siblings, James T. and Hoyt Jordan, Martha Jane Barefoot, Carlie Mae Teal, Mildred Hoffman, Dora Lee Jordan, Margaret Isgett.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Teal Jordan.

RUFUS E. JOHNSON
Funeral services for Rufus Eugene Johnson, 58, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Oct. 7, 2005, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Jimmy Spence and Marvin Griggs will officiate with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens.

Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, Oct. 4. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Johnny Garrett and Hazel Chapman Johnson. He was a loving and giving husband, father and grandfather. He worked at Tedder’s Hardware.

Surviving are his wife, Jackie Sue Yarborough Johnson of Hartsville; sons, Sean Johnson of Dovesville, Stacey Johnson of Florence; sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia Gainey of Hartsville, Francis and Donnie Davis, Clarese Johnson, all of Hartsville, and Margaret Johnson of Society Hill; stepsons, John Horace Welch, Alan Ray Welch, both of Hartsville; grandchildren, Torey Johnson, Austin Johnson, Paige Johnson, Payne Johnson.

SARAH L. CARDONA
SUMMERTON — Funeral services for Sarah Lee Gainey Cardona, 76, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Father Karl Roesch will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends today, October 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Cardona died Wednesday, Oct. 5. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Luther W. and Alice Johnson Gainey. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was retired from Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pomptom Lakes, N.J.

Surviving are her sisters, Gladys Morris and Peggy Cassidy, both of Hartsville, and Louise Steadman of Wagener; 17 nieces and nephews; 29 great nieces and nephews.

CLARA POWE
Funeral services for Clara Hall Powe, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at the Pine Ridge Church of God of Prophecy. The Rev. Marvin Griggs will officiate with burial in Tabernacle United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Brown-Penning-ton-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends today, Oct. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Pine Ridge Church of God of Prophecy, 9 Lawrence Cir., McBee, SC 29101.

Mrs. Powe died Thursday, Oct. 13. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Silas and Lela Purvis Hall. She retired from Hartsville Manufacturing and Red Fox Apparel.

Surviving are her sisters, Jeannette Moore of Hartsville, Betty Steen of Orangeburg; brothers, Byerly Hall, Silas Hall, George Thomas Hall, all of Hartsville, Melvin Hall of China Grove, N.C., J. D. Hall of Rockwell, N.C.; nieces, Joyce Darnell, Dorothy Dixon, Cristal Beasley, all of Hartsville.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Willis Hall, Walter Hall, Lonnie Hall, her sisters Dorothy Hall, Nancy Ann Hall, Alma Hess Poston, Leola Tyner.

MARY ELIZABETH
LUNN KIRVEN
Mary Elizabeth Lunn Kirven of Charleston died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16, at Swift Creek Baptist Church, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Kirven was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Walter Kemmery and Adelaide DuBose Lunn. She was a member of the French Protestant Huguenot Church in Charleston. Mrs. Kirven attended Montreat College in Black Mountain, N.C., and graduated from Coker College in Hartsville. She was a devoted teacher at Carolina Elementary School in Hartsville, Robert E. Lee Academy in Bishopville and several schools in Charleston. Mrs. Kirven was a member of the Pilot Club and served as a volunteer in the Charleston Visitor 's Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Kay Lucas Kirven, in 1980.

Survivors include three sons, David Lawrence (Georganne) Kirven of Wedgefield, Kay Lucas Kirven Jr. of Hartsville and Joel Pollard Kirven of Charleston; two daughters, Jacqueline Kay Kirven of Hartsville and Elna Joy Kirven of Charleston; one brother, W. K. 'Bug ' (Faye) Lunn of Darlington; and two sisters, Floride Andrews of Darlington and Miriam Lunn of Charleston.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Thornwell Home & School for Children, PO Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325.

EARNEST HOLLINGSWORTH
Funeral services for Earnest Hollingsworth, 54, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Oct. 14, 2005, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Holiness Church cemetery.

Mr. Hollingsworth, who died Oct. 12, was born in Rockingham, N.C., a son of the late Rev. J.C. and Catherine Lynch Hollings-worth. He was retired from Talley Metals and attended Blessed Hope Independent Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Dixon Hollings-worth; daughters, Jordan Hollingsworth, Lee Ann Hall of Hartsville, Sheryl Weaver and Beverly Owens of Lexington, N.C.; brothers, James Hollings-worth of Lexington, N.C., and Donnie Hollingsworth of Hartsville; sister, Carolyn Dalrymple of Kernersville, N.C.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William Hollingsworth.

Memorials may be made to the Blessed Hope Independent Baptist Church Building Fund, 401 Bluff Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.

JIMMY INGRAM
DARLINGTON - Graveside funeral services for James 'Jimmy ' Irvin Ingram, 57, were held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, in Grove Hill cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Todd Parrish and directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Ingram died Monday, Oct. 10, at his residence. He was born in Darlington, son of Thelma Carnes Ingram and the late James Walter Ingram. He was a graduate of St. John 's High School and attended Florence-Darlington Technical College. Mr. Ingram was formerly employed with Stone Container Corp. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a brother, Danny Ingram of Florence, three nieces and a nephew.

ESSIE MAE ROBINSON

LAMAR — Funeral services for Mrs. Essie Mae Damon Robinson were held on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at Unionville AME Church in Mayesville. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home of Lamar, with the Rev. Joshua Dupree, pastor of Unionville, officiating the service.

Mrs. Robinson departed this earthly life on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Carolinas Hospital System after a short illness. She was born on May 15, 1950, in Lee County, a daughter of Josephine Damon Wilson Hudson. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1970. She was employed at Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse until her health failed. Mrs. Robinson was a member of Unionville AME Church in Mayesville.

Essie Mae was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Her passing brings sorrow to those who knew and loved her. One of her sisters, Aileen Witherspoon, preceded her in death.

Those who are left to cherish the loving memories of Essie Mae Damon Robinson include her mother, Josephine Hudson of Lamar; her husband Norman Robinson Jr. of Lamar; seven daughters, Vonda (Tony) Ford, Wanda (Mark Lowery) Damon, Renee (Roger) Brown, Trumelia Robinson, Gloria Robinson, and Ebony Robinson, all of Lamar, and Tenishia Robinson of Timmonsville; five sisters, Mattie (the Rev. Leo) Chapman of Florence, Patricia Wingate and Dorothy Hudson of Mayesville, Linda (Lafayette) McDonald and Viola Harry, both of Sumter; three brothers, Roosevelt (Pauline) Wilson of Washington, D.C., Roger Lee Hudson of Mayesville and Kenneth (Melinda) Hudson of Sumter; 13 grandchildren; her aunt, Janie Mae Wilson of Lamar; two sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and very dear friends.

MARSHALL JOHNSON
Funeral services for William Marshall Johnson, 67, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 19, 2005, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Hazel Mixon will officiate with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens.

Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005. Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Hilton and Hessie Thomas Johnson. He was retired from Nucor Steel after 22 1/2 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Granger Johnson of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas William and Faye Johnson of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Penny Johnson, Barbara Wilson, Brenda Gardner, Michelle and Mark Flowers, all of Hartsville; sister, Barbara Ann Threatt of Kershaw; brothers, Sam Johnson and Junior Johnson, both of Hartsville, Tony Hutchinson of McBee; eight grandchildren.

MATTIE COE
LYDIA — Memorial services for Mattie Coe, 80, who died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall. Services will be conducted by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 920 Brentwood Drive, Lydia community.

ANN DIXON
Funeral services for Venita Ann Byrd Dixon, 54, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church. The Rev. Steve Funderburk officiated with burial the church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dixon died Saturday, Oct. 15. Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late Everette and Gladys Johnson Byrd.

Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Faith Dixon and Robin McFarland, Bridgette Dixon, all of Hartsville; sister, Carolyn Byrd of Oklahoma; brother, William “Bill” Byrd of California; grandchildren, Michelle Wilson, Christy Foss, Anthony Foss and Angelica Foss.

She was preceded in death by her father, Everette Byrd, her mother, Gladys Byrd, and her spouse Johnnie Dixon.

JOYCE S. STORAR
Graveside services for Joyce Smith Storar, 86, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.

Mrs. Storar died Sunday, Oct. 16. She was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late John and Georgia Ann Kelley. She was a homemaker. She was first married to the late Burdette F. Smith and then to the late N. R. Storar. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Smith, a brother, Mendel J. Kelley, and by a sister, Sara Lou Kelley Raines.

Survivors include two sons, Kelly Smith and wife, Julia J. Smith, of Chapin and Mitchell B. Smith and wife, Joyce Smith, of Vero Beach, Fla.; one brother, Bill Kelley of Camden; one sister, Mary Kelley Tolson of Florence; seven grandchildren, Michelle Smith, Alice Smith (Timm) Weber, Margaret Smith, Kelly P. (Kristy) Smith, Chris (Amy) Smith, Jessica Smith and Terry John Smith; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Kameron Smith and Amelia Weber.

MARY NASH
Funeral services for Mary Johnson Nash, 76, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at Prospect United Methodist Church. The Revs. Dr. Pat Orr and Carlton Sims will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, Oct.19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Prospect United Methodist Church, 2236 Bethlehem Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Nash, widow of J. D. Nash, died Monday, Oct. 17. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Belle Griggs Johnson. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her sons, Ronnie Nash and Tommie Nash, both of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Joel Segars of Hartsville; grandchildren, Kacey Segars and Ryan Segars. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Rhodes and Ethel J. Mixon.

REV. BILL TODD SR.
DARLINGTON — A graveside service for the Rev. William Allen “Bill” Todd Sr., 70, of Sligo, Pa., was held, Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at 10 a.m. in Grove Hill cemetery, with full military honors. A memorial service followed at 11 a.m. in the First Church of God, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

The Rev. Todd, formerly of Darlington, passed away on Oct. 11 following a sudden and unexpected illness. He was born in 1935 in Industry, Pa., son of the late Paul Ewing Todd and Charlotte McGaffic Todd. He was a graduate of Midland High School class of 1953 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all kinds of sports. After high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for 20 years attaining the rank of master sergeant. He worked in the field of testing and calibrating electronic equipment used in aircraft and served in Korea, two times in Japan and Thailand. Following his discharge from the military, he became ordained in The Church Of God, Anderson, Ind., and served churches in Kendall, Fla., Titusville, Fla., Oil City, Pa., Darlington, Rimersburg, Pa., and then retired after pastoring in Somerset, Ky. At the present time he had just accepted an interim pastorate at the Church of God in New Castle, Pa., and had been there just one week. He was first married to Dolores A. Dalton, who preceded him in death. He then married Lana M. Hertwick Myers.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, William Allen (Sandra) Todd Jr. of Wadsworth, Ohio; two daughters, Pamela A. Clark of Tempe, Ariz., Sherry L. Todd of Naperville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Daniel Clark IV, Kimberly Clark, Christopher Todd, Caitlin Todd; two brothers: Robert E. (Nancy)Todd of Industry, Pa., Earl Raymond (Rose) Todd of Midland, Pa.; a sister, Thelma Joan (Charles) Weishorn of Murraysville, Pa.; three stepchildren, Scott (Lori) Myers of Rimersburg, Pa., Mark (Julie) Myers of Woodbridge, Va., Heather (Steve) Custer of Knox, Pa.; seven step-grandchildren, Jordan Myers, Mariah Myers, Tracie Myers, Erin Myers, Kenneth Myers, Ashley Custer and Katie Custer; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Todd was preceded in death by two brothers, Smith Wilbur Todd and Paul Amil Todd; two sisters, Evelyn Copestick and Margaret Eimira Todd.

MARTHA C. DAVIS
Funeral services for Martha Coleman Davis, 58, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at Green Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Canty officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Davis died Friday, Oct.14. She was born January 1947 in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Mary Benjamin Coleman and Calvin Coleman Sr. She was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She retired from Sarah Lee Hosiery of Hartsville, after 20 years of service.

Survivors include her husband, Albert Davis Jr. of the home; one daughter, Yvonne (the Rev. Michael) McMillan of Florence; three sons, Leonard Davis, Wendell (Felecia) Davis and Albert Davis III, all of Hartsville; three grandchildren, Victoria Davis and Celine Davis, both of Hartsville, and Joseph McMillan of Florence; four sisters, Maggie (McKinley) Moore of Sound, N.Y., her twin, Mary Smith and Maudie (Preston) Zimmerman, both of Society Hill, and Margaret Coleman of Sumter; three brothers, Leory (Learlean) Benjamin of Society Hill, Monroe Benjamin and Henry Coleman, both of Hartsville; five sisters-in-law, Arena Davis, Hattie (L.C.) Cranford, Josephine Davis, Edna D. Boyd and Shirley Davis, all of Hartsville; one brother-in-law, Samuel (Terry) Davis of Hartsville; special friend, Lucille Mumford of Hartsville; nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by five siblings.
