REV. JAMES DUTTON SR.
Funeral services for the Rev. James L. Dutton Sr., 72, who died Nov. 4, were held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2005, at Praise Temple Church with the Revs. Gary Wilson and Burton Ross officiating. Burial was in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

The Rev. Dutton was born in Tignal, Ga., a son of the late Grady and Ella House Dutton Sr. He spent his early life in Greenwood, went into the ministry at age 17 and served his first church in Abbeville and then served a church in Edgemore and Lexington. In 1960 he moved to Hartsville, where he was pastor of Praise Temple until his death. Surviving are his wife, Earline Peterman Dutton of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, James L. and Phyllis Dutton Jr. of Augusta, Ga., Richard A. and Deborah Dutton of Beaufort, Thomas D. and Jill Dutton of Hartsville, Joseph H. and Lynette Dutton of Augusta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Grady Dutton Jr. and John Dutton of Greenwood.

Memorials may be made to Praise Temple Church, 2112 W. Carolina Ave., Hartsville, S.C. 29550.

ETHEL FERRELL
DARLINGTON - Graveside funeral services for Ethel Kirby Ferrell, 92, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ferrell died at Lowman Home Nursing Center, Whiterock, Thursday, Nov. 3. She was born in Florence County, daughter of the late Byrd F. and Jane Vause Kirby.

She was married to the late Douglas C. Ferrell. Mrs. Ferrell had retired as dietitian for Wilson Hospital and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Bob (Roberta) Ferrell of Columbia; four daughters, Rachel (Tommy) McManus of Union, Mary Jane (Charles) Lefevre of Columbia, Billie Jeanne (David) Sloan of Camden and Miriam Sirmon of Florence; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Moore of Olanta; and one brother, Carl Kirby of Albuquerque, N.M.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of one 's choice.

PAULINE S. SCHEPPNER
Graveside services for Pauline Ballard Smith Scheppner, 87, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Nov. 9, 2005, in the First Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Charles Roberts will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Scheppner was born on May 19, 1918, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Samuel M. and Mattie Kirven Ballard. She was previously married to the late Robert Tyson Smith of Hartsville for 25 years and was the widow of George Scheppner of Sumter. She was a retiree of Becton-Dickenson and a member of Westside Baptist Church in Sumter, where she resided for 40 years. She was a past member of The Woodmen of the World Hartsville Chapter.

Surviving is her daughter, Paula Ruth Smith Lowe and her loving son-in-law, William (Billy) L. Lowe Sr.; her three grandchildren, Paulette Lowe Blake and her husband, Daniel Lea Blake, William Lawrence Lowe Jr. and his wife, Cindy Shoemake Lowe, and Robert Randolph Lowe and his wife, Lori Sims Lowe. Remaining are her three great-grandchildren, William Lawrence (Lance) Lowe III, David Tyler Lowe and William Seth Lowe of Hartsville. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Margaret Gardiner and James E. Ballard, both of Hartsville, Bruce Ballard of Columbia, Martha Mae Alexander of Bishopville and Thomas Ballard of Portsmouth, Va. Surviving are her brother, Samuel R. Ballard of York, and her sister, Emily Ballard Mahek, of Darlington. Surviving also are seven nieces and 12 nephews.

MARY GRAHAM
Mary Graham, 59, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 829 Society Ave., Hartsville.

ART TAYLOR
Funeral services for Arthur Thomas Taylor, 56, will be held at 7 p.m. today, Nov. 9, 2005, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bill Perry will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends today, Nov. 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Mr. Taylor died Friday, Nov. 4. Born in Cliffside Park, N.J., he was a son of the late Arthur M. and Kathleen Kress Taylor. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was employed with the Billie Hardee Home for Boys in Darlington for five years.

Surviving are his son, Scott T. Taylor of Van Nuys, Calif; brother, Robert Taylor of Dumont, N.J.; aunt, Marion Hill of Eden, N.C.

NANCY R. WRIGHT
Graveside services for Nancy Roach Wright, 64, were held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at Roselawn cemetery, Martinsville, Va. The Rev. Dwayne Pruitt officiated with Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Wright died Thursday, Nov. 3. Born in Martinsville, Va., she was a daughter of the late Carlin and Althena Hutchinson Roach. She was employed with Gold Strike Bingo in Hartsville.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Heather Cooke of Hartsville, Sammy and Sarah Cooke of Fieldale, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Cooke and Gary Simon of Brigantine, N.J.; sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara Meadows of Fieldale, Va., Susan and Bill Witt of Bassett, Va.; six grandchildren.

Jutta Heinze Edwards
2/22/1940 - 7/14/2006

Funeral services for Jutta Heinze Edwards age 66 who died July 14, 2006 will be held Sunday at 4:00 from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will be in the Magnolia cemetery. Directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sat. 5-7pm. Bishop Cliff Barfield will officiate. Jutta was born in Bremerhaven, Germany the daughter of the late Willi and Anita Stelljes Heinze. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Surviving are her husband: Deani Edwards, Hartsville. Daughter: Deanna Gainey, Hartsville. Son: Robert Edwards, Singapore. Brother: Rolf Heinze, Bremerhaven, Germany. Sister: Renate Hughes, St. Louis, MO. 4 Grandchildren: Joshua Gainey, Justin Gainey, Stephanie Gainey, Patrick Edwards. Several nieces and nephews. DERRICK J. WASHINGTON
Funeral services for Derrick Joseph Washington were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at the Butler High School Gymnatorium. The burial followed in the St. John United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville. Apostle Crystal D. Adams, the pastor of Consuming Fire Ministries in Hartsville officiated the services.

'D.J., ' as he was affectionately known, was born Jan. 30, 1979, in Darlington County. He was the loving son of Ida Mae Washington Pearson and Jessie Washington. He was the stepson of the late James Pearson. Derrick was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. He later moved to Charlotte, N.C., where he was employed with the Sygma Corporation. He was a member of Consuming Fire Ministries. Two of his brothers Israel Washington and Allen Toney preceded him in death.

Surviving other that his parents Ida Mae Washington Pearson and Jessie Washington of Hartsville, are his wife Nicole Washington of Hartsville; his daughter Patrice Washington of Hartsville; two sisters Faye (David Kirk) Robinson of Charlotte, N.C., and Karen (Tracy) Mouzon of Florence; and three brothers, Jerome (Dianne) Washington of Richmond, Va., William (Lavette) Washington of Columbia and Jessie Washington Jr. of Hartsville; two stepbrothers, Antonio Dix and Marqual Toney, both of Hartsville; his grandmother, Ida Tucker of Richmond, Va.; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews nieces and other close relatives and friends.

MAXINE McCALL
MYRTLE BEACH - A memorial service for Maxine McCall, was held Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, in Myrtle Beach with arrangements entrusted to McMillan-Small Funeral Home of Myrtle Beach.

Mrs. McCall, wife of Bruce Wyatt, died Friday, Nov. 4, at her residence. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Weldon F. Truett and Katherine Cobb Truett Melton.

Survivors including her husband, are three sons, Michael Chad Mixon and John Lee (Sandy) Mixon, both of Hartsville, and John Weldon Joseph 'Joey' McCall of Easley; one sister, Donna (Mike) Burch of Hartsville; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950-48th Ave., N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

MARVIN E. WHITE
TIMMONSVILLE - Funeral services for Marvin E. White, 83, were held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church with burial following in Byrd cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Dan Thigpen and directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. White died Monday, Nov. 7, in a local hospital. He was born in Florence County, son of the late Henry Dewey and Thelma Windham White. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and attended Clemson University. He was a retired farmer and co-owner of Milling Warehouse and Growers Warehouse. He was also a Shriner and enjoyed attending the Men's Prayer Breakfast. Mr. White was a member of Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church where he was an honorary deacon and a member of the Men's Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Parnell White of the home, three daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie (James) Tedder of Oates community, Pam White, Sharon White, both of Lamar; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Dawn White of Lamar; grandchildren, Rhonda Coker, Stacey Runey, Russ June, Brent June, Mason White, Eddie White; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Andrews, Loma Davis, both of Summerton; and a brother, Thad White of Florence.

Mr. White was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Ham, and two brothers, Hugh and Donald White.

Memorials may be made to Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church, 1665 Philadelphia St., Darlington, SC 29532.

LOUISE DORSEY
Funeral services for Louise Dorsey will be held today, Nov. 11, 2005, at 2 p.m. The burial will follow in the church's cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. Bishop Vera M. Davis, the pastor of the church will officiate the service.

In the Lord's appointed time the journey for Louise Dorsey ended Monday, Nov. 7, at the McLeod Hospice after a long illness.

Mrs. Dorsey was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wade and Lissie McCray. She was educated in the Darlington County School System. She was a career homemaker and provided a loving home for her family.

She was raised in a Christian home and was an early member of Mt. Tema Baptist Church where she was member of the Usher Board. She moved to New York City at an early age where she eventually received the Lord as her savior and became a member of the Tabernacle of Deliverance Church and was a member of the Missionary Board. Later in life she was appointed a member of the Mother Board. In 1998, she returned to the Hartsville area where she attended Nazareth Apostolic Church IJC Inc., under the leadership of Dr. Vera M. Davis.

She was the mother of five children. They were blessed to have such a loving and caring mother. Louise worked hard all of her life to improve the quality of her life and enhance the life of her children. She loved to cook. Often, while living in New York City, she would cook for the entire neighborhood. Everyone loved her cooking.

Mrs. Dorsey was a kind, generous, passionate and strong-willed individual. Most importantly, she was a very loving mother and grandmother. She will be truly missed by family and friends.

Surviving to cherish her loving memory are her four daughters, Sinaretha Valtierra of the home; Sarah and Ethelene Addison of New York, N.Y.; Joyce (Cephus) Martin of Durham, N.C.; one son, Tommy 'Porky' Addison of New York, N.Y.; a special goddaughter, Carol Pringle of Hartsville; five sisters, Zella Jackson and Mary Addison of Hartsville; Betty Arthur of Atlantic City, N.J.; Geraldine McCray of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Virginia McCray of New York, N.Y.; two stepsons, Frank McFarland of Hartsville; Benny Ray Dorsey of Chicago, Ill.; 29 grandchildren, four of whom she raised, Celeste, Hope, Charles and Calvin; 78 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and many other friends relatives and close acquaintances.

DORIS A. WEAVER
Graveside services for Doris (Dinky) Alford Weaver, 77, were held Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at 2 p.m. in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Weaver, widow of Laverne Weaver, died Tuesday, Nov. 8. She was born in Hartsville a daughter of the late Thomas B. and Annie Osborne Alford. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Gold Star Wives.

Surviving are a daughter, Beth Hampton of Hartsville; son, Tim Weaver of Columbia; grandchildren, Mark, Daniel, Mary Beth Weaver of Columbia, Cody Hampton of Hartsville; brother, Jack Alford of Hartsville; half brothers, Jerry Alford of Wayne City, Ill., Frank Alford of Lamar.

KAREN ANN SHEALY
ST. MATTHEWS - Services for Karen Ann Shealy, 50, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at State Street Baptist Church, Cayce, with burial in Elmwood cemetery and Gardens, Columbia. Visitation will be tonight, Nov. 11, from 6-8 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to State Street Baptist Church, 1420 State St., Cayce, SC 29033.

Mrs. Shealy died Saturday, Nov. 5. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of Estell J. DeMates and the late Charles W. DeMates. She was a member of State Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Cameron Shealy of Cayce, Chantz Shealy and his wife, Jamie, of Tacoma, Wash., and Creighton Shealy of St. Matthews; her mother of Cayce; and brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Chris Goff of Winter Park, Fla.

BISHOPVILLE - Cora L. Johnson, 61, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral of Hartsville.

Funeral services for Mary Graham, 59, will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

Mrs. Graham died Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Willie Harvey and Mable Dixon Graham. She received her education in the public school system and was a member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Jeanette Graham and Geraldine Graham, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Charles Graham of Hartsville; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

CHARLIE FRAZIER
Graveside services for Charlie Frazier will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at Centerville A.M.E. Church cemetery with the Rev. J. L. Rouse officiating. Services will be conducted by Young & Young Funeral Home.

LOLA BYRD
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Services for Lola Dixon Byrd were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at Lakeview Baptist Church in Hartsville. Burial followed at Mt Olivet Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Byrd passed on to eternal life after a brief illness Wed., Nov. 9. A native of Hartsville, she was the daughter of the late Viney Jones Dixon and Fred Dixon of Hartsville. She attended Lenoir-Rhyne College and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church of Hartsville. Prior to her illness, Lola was a homemaker and was very involved in church activities supporting her husband The Rev. Harvey H. Byrd.

Survivors are her son, Harvey Walter Byrd, and daughter-in-law, Becky, of Marion, N.C.; her daughter, Phyllis Wrigglesworth, and son-in-law, Bob, of Murrells Inlet; her daughter, Sylvia Phillips, and son-in-law, Phil, of Spartanburg; her brother, Fred Dixon, Jr., and wife, Kay, of Gainesville, Ga.; her sister, Shelby Martin, and husband, Ed, of Atlanta, Ga.; her granddaughter, Celeste Batson of Chapel Hill, N.C.; her grandson, Scott Cantrell of Charlotte, N.C.; her grandson, Mark Byrd of Old Fort, N.C.; her grandson, Matt Phillips of Spartanburg; and her granddaughter, Sydney Godfrey of Asheville, N.C. Also surviving are four great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, a daughter, Pansy Byrd, and a brother, J. L. Dixon, both of Hartsville.

Her grandsons were pallbearers.

TEDDY KELLY
DARLINGTON - Teddy 'Blue Boy' Kelly, 75, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, in a local hospital. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, in Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Kelly was born in Darlington County, son of the late Charlie E. and Viola Feagin Kelly. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and had retired from Nucor. Mr. Kelly enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Moore Kelly, of the home; a son, Ted Kelly of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Kimberly K. Garland of Darlington; two grandchildren, Colby Reed and Kelly Garland; two brothers: Charles (Judith) Kelly, and William 'Billy' (Mildred) Kelly, all of Florence.

Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathryn Talbert, Mildred Lambert and Marjorie Mahon.
