CHARLES THOMPSON SR.
SPRING CITY, Pa. - Funeral services for Charles Edward Thompson Sr., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at Bethel Baptist Church in Phoenixville, Pa., directed by DeBaptiste Funeral Home of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Thompson departed this life on Saturday, March 11. He was born Oct. 24, 1938, to the late Phillip N. Thompson and Ethel Ashton Thompson Rhoden in Hague, Virginia.

He graduated from Richmond County High School, Warsaw, Va., in 1959. After graduation he moved to Phoenixville, Pa. He was employed at Norristown State Hospital in 1960, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1996. Through his employment he was affiliated with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) District Council. He became the vice president of AFSCME Local 2940 in 1982.

In February 1996, the Regional Forensic Psychiatric Clinic of Norristown, Pa. was named the Clayton-Thompson Clinic in his honor.

Mr. Thompson was married to the former Sarah Frances Josey of Hartsville, for 44 1/2 years. They are the parents of two adult children Charles Edward Thompson Jr. (Gretchen) of Spring City, Pa., and Lorraine Thompson Baron (Gerald) of Alpharetta, Ga. He was a member of the Lyells Chapel Baptist Church in Warsaw, Va. His adult membership was Bethel Baptist Church in Phoenixville, Pa. He was a member of the Trustee Board, where he served faithfully until his health failed him.

Mr. Thompson enjoyed deep-sea fishing, boating, bowling, sports, maintaining his lawn and keeping his cars clean. He adored his four grandchildren and one step- grandchild.

Leaving to mourn are his wife, Sarah Frances Josey Thompson; his children, Charles Edward Thompson Jr. and Lorraine Thomson Baron; three sisters, an uncle, two aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and special family and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother.

KIMBERLY BREWER
SENECA - Funeral services for Kimberly Renae Brewer, 19, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Bethesda Fellowship Congregational Holiness Church in Cornelia, Ga., with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest, Ga., directed by Davenport Funeral Home of Walhalla.

Ms. Brewer died Thursday, March 9, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., she was the daughter of the Rev. Ed Brewer of Seneca and the late Rhonda Elaine Simmons Brewer. She was a 2004 graduate of the S.C. Governor's School for Science and Mathematics and a student at Clemson University. Ms. Brewer was a member of Bountyland Church of God.

In addition to her father, Ms. Brewer is survived by a brother, Adam Matthew Brewer of Seneca; a fiance, Anton Sova of Beaufort; grandparents, Reece F. and Ruby Mae Armour Simmons of Baldwin, Ga., and Reggie and Norma Eller Brewer of Mt. Airy, Ga.

JANICE C. SANDERS
Funeral services for Janice Cranford Sanders, 36, will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 15, 2006, at Gethsemane Apostolic Church located in Lynchburg. Burial will be in Green Hill Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sanders died Sunday, March 12. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of L. C. and Hattie Davis Cranford. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system and attended Gethsemane Apostolic Church.

Surviving other than her parents of Hartsville; are her husband, Terrance Sanders; two sons, Rodriquez T. Cranford and Zyrius T. Sanders, all of Hartsville; three sisters, Carolyn (Demetris) of Columbia, Lisa (Larry) Bess and Joni (Carlos) Pendergrass, both of Hartsville; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

BUCKY DUDLEY JR.
William G. 'Bucky' Dudley Jr., 63, died Saturday, March 11, 2006. Born in Hartsville, he was the only child of William G. 'Fraz' and Eloise Kelley Dudley Sr. He was a retired salesman and served in the United States Army.

In honor of his spirit for life and friendship, his family invites you to come and participate in a CELEBRATION of his life at a private club in Hartsville on Wednesday, March 15, from 6 p.m. until.

As per his wishes, a very short ceremony will be held on the beach in front of the OD Pavilion on Thursday, March 16, at 1 p.m.

Memorial donations in his honor are requested in the place of flowers and may be made to the Matthew Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund, 586 W. Carolina Ave. Hartsville, SC 29550. Surviving is a son, William G. 'Bucky' Dudley III of Mt. Pleasant.

ROSS GARDNER
Funeral services for Ross Gardner, 89, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at North Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Ladell Humphries officiated with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the North Hartsville Baptist Church, 1117 Patrick Hwy, Hartsville, SC 29550 or a charity of one's choice.

Mr. Gardner, widower of Ruth Thomas Gardner, died Friday, March 10. Born in Union, N.C., he was a son of the late George and Frances Dawkins Gardner. He was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church, served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was retired from Sonoco Products Company with 37 years of service.

Surviving are his son, the Rev. Jerry Ross Gardner of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughters, Jeannie Thompson of Florence, Sandra Johnson of Hartsville; sisters-in-law Dorothy Louise Hoffman of Hartsville, Clara Evelyn Griggs of Augusta, Ga.; brother-in-law, Wayne Marvin Thomas of Hartsville; grandchildren, Danny Cassidy Jr., Devri Cassidy, Garren Brown, Ashley Reeves, Nash Gardner; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Gardner.

SADIE K. BRUTON
Funeral services for Sadie King Bruton, 82, were held 3 p.m.Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Union United Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home with the Revs. Roger Dodds and Ed Griggs officiating.

Mrs. Bruton, widow or Ray Bruton, died Saturday, March 11. She was born in Hartsville, the daughter of the late Leonard and Lila Northcutt King. She graduated from McBee High School, attended Coker College, was a member of Union United Methodist Church, The Eastern Star, United Methodist Women and the Sonoco Old Timers Club. She was retired from Sonoco Products Company. In her younger years she was very active in the community.

Surviving are one brother, Carl King, Hartsville; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church, 4374 Union Church Road, McBee, SC 29101.

CONYERS MONTGOMERY
Funeral service for Conyers Montgomery were held on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Presbyterian Church in Mayesville. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. Dr. Franklin Colclough officiated the service.

Elder Montgomery was born July 30, 1908, in St. Charles. He was the eighth of 11 children of Hammie C. and Tamer Carter Montgomery. He attended the public schools of Lee County and later moved to Hartsville, where he was employed at the Hartsville Bleachery until its closing. He also worked diligently at the First Presbyterian Church, St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and retired from the Belk Department Store in 1993.

He was united early in life to Florine Scott of St. Charles, who preceded him in death. This union was blessed with the birth of five children. He was later married to Lula Mae Williams of Hartsville on Feb. 7, 1966. From this union he was extended the love of three step-daughters. He was a faithful and loyal member of Mt. Sinai Presbyterian Church of Mayesville, where he served as elder, the clerk of sessions, and member of the Senior Choir. He was a member of Myrtle Masonic Lodge No. 64 of Hartsville.

Surviving to cherish the loving memories of Conyers Montgomery are his loving and caring wife, Lula Mae Montgomery, and stepdaughter, Jacqueline Moore of Hartsville; three daughters, Mary Alice (Bernice) Wilson of Hartsville; Corine M. Ervin of Columbia; and Georgia Mae (John) Pearson of Suitland, Md.; two sons, Mr. Hammie C. (Margaret) Montgomery and William (Cynthia) Montgomery of Hartsville; two additional step-daughters, Joyce Burns of Society Hill and Patricia Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Cleo Williams of Hartsville; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grand children and eight great-great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces and other close relatives and very dear friends, all of whom join with the family in sharing the grief by his departure, but rejoice in his homegoing.

ROY WEATHERFORD
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Roy J. Weatherford, 65, were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2006, in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Indian Branch cemetery, officiated by Rev. Dale McCluney.

Mr. Weatherford died Thursday, March 9. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late Bennie Lee Weatherford and Earline Purvis Weatherford Anderson. Roy had retired from Nucor Steel after 25 years of service. He loved working on tractors and lawn mowers, but his real love was his grandchildren. Mr. Weatherford was a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Dottie Jean Hill Weatherford, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Stu Gillham of Tenn.; two grandchildren, Rachael and Sarah Gillham; five sisters, Lois Baird, Mary McQueen, Joyce McInville all of Darlington, Iona Morris of Raleigh, N.C., Joanne Lyons of Darlington; two brothers, Cecil Weatherford and Eli Weatherford, both of Darlington and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Weatherford was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Odom and Mildred Lewis, and three brothers; Bennie, Thomas, and Willie Weatherford.

Memorials may be made to the Indian Branch cemetery or Building Fund, c/o Cecil James, PO Box 224, Darlington, SC 29540.

NEWELL LEE
DARLINGTON - Graveside funeral services for Phillip Newell Lee, 66, were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Grove Hill cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Lee died Sunday, March 12. He was born in Florence County, son of the late Delton and Gaynell Huff Lee. He was an all-star basketball player during high school and served his country with the United States Air Force. He had retired from DuPont after more than 25 years and coached Little League baseball in Darlington and Effingham. Mr. Lee was an avid golfer and was a volunteer tour guide for Darlington Raceway. He loved his granddaughter. Mr. Lee attended the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Blackmon Lee of Darlington; two sons, Phillip Lee II and Patrick (Dawn) Lee; granddaughter, Cassidy Lee, all of Darlington; two sisters, Beatrice Davis of Hot Springs, Ark., and Wanda Jeffcoat of Lexington; three brothers, Junior Lee of Lexington, Arnold Lee of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jake Lee of Effingham.

Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Lee; three sisters, Nell Rine Smith, Carolyn Lee and Gertrude Shirley and four brothers, Garvin, R.B., Larry and Buster Lee.

LILLIAN SCOTT
LAMAR - Mrs. Lillian Scott, 101, died on Friday, March 10, at McLeod Medical Center of Darlington. The family will receive friends at the residence, 1365 Fisherman Road, Lamar. Hines Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

JOHN MURPHY
John Murphy, 71, died Sunday, March 12, at his residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

HAYWARD BOYKIN
Funeral services for Hayward Boykin will be held on today, March 17, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel. The burial will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc.

Mr. Boykin died peacefully March 9. He was born March 23, 1959, in Harlem, N.Y., to the late Richard Boykin Sr. and Wilhelmenia Boykin. He attended Washington Street Elementary School and Butler High School of Hartsville.

During his high school years, he was elected president of the student council. He attended Morris College in Sumter. He then joined the United States Army as an artillery man gaining the rank of specialist. After his discharge from the military, he returned to Hartsville and resided with Pauline Mingo, a nurturing relative from his childhood. He eventually moved to Bensalem, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.

He leaves to share his memory his mother Wilhelmenia Boykin; brother, Richard (Johanna) Boykin; three uncles, Allen McNeal of Florida, James McNeal of South Carolina and Harrison Napoleon of Connecticut; two aunts, Jessie Davis and Annie Donnelly of New York; special friend, Edward Boron; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Boykin will be extremely missed by his family and friends.

CHRISTINE MOSES
Funeral services for Christine Moses, 70, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Second Baptist Church, with burial following services in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

Mrs. Moses died Sunday, March 12. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Johnny Nick and Helen Wingate Brown. She received her education in the public school systems in the area and was a member of Faith Mission Unity Church.

Surviving are 10 children, Henry Lee Prince, Walter (Patricia) Prince, Mary Helen Ricks, Calvin L. Prince, Jeanine (Leroy) Edwards, Damain J. Prince and Joyce (Reginald) McCall, all of Hartsville, Sara Jean (Larry) Olimb of Seattle, Wash., Jacqueline (Leon) Hickmon of El Paso, Texas, Christina R. Blakney of Florence; four sisters, Carolyn Pompey, Yvonne Brown and Reatha Brown, all of Hartsville, Lucy Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; five brothers, George Brown, Johnny Brown, Harry Brown, Sylvester Brown and Robert Brown, all of Hartsville; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Gwendolyn Johnson of Hartsville; a host of nieces, nephews, church family and other close relatives and friends.

LILLIAN INGS SCOTT
Funeral services for Lillian Ings Scott were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at St. John United Methodist Church in the Oates Community. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Frederick Yebuah officiating.

Mrs. Scott, affectionately known as 'Mella' to her family and friends, was born April 12, 1904, in Darlington County to the late Viola Samuels and Bert Ings. She departed from this earthly life on Friday, March 10, 2006, and entered into her heavenly home.

At an early age, she attended and joined St. John United Methodist Church where she served faithfully for many years as the treasurer of the Women's Society of Christian Service and as a communion steward. She received her education in the Darlington County public schools.

She was blessed with nearly 102 years of a life that has had a positive influence and impact on her family, friends, loved ones, and community. She was glorified for her hard work ethic and her marvelous domestic skills. Mrs. Scott always had words of guidance, wisdom, and encouragement.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Lennis Scott in 1923 and to this union 10 children were born. She also raised three of her grandchildren. Four of her daughters preceded her in death, Lois S. Clark, Mary Jane and a set of twins.

She leaves a legacy of love and devoted memories to her daughters, Mary L. Scott of the home, Rosa Lee Chavis, Evelyn Wilson and Minnie (Henry) Woodham, all of Lamar; her sons, John Scott of Hartsville and Gettis Scott of Jamaica, N.Y.; her sister, Cora Lee Stevenson of Darlington; her brother, Clarence (Annie Lee) Ings of Hartsville; 20 grandchildren with special recognition to the three grandchildren she raised in her home, Woodrow (Geraldine) Wilson Jr., of Athens, Ga., Estelle Scott of Lamar, and Lamarty (Michelle) Scott of Charlotte, N.C.; 37 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, six great-great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and very dear friends.
