Jimmy Lee Booth, brother of Kenneth Allen McNeal, died at McLeod Regional Medical Center on Monday, April 10, 2006, after an illness. The family will receive friends at the residence. Hines Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.

JOE CADDELL
McBEE - Services for Joe Caddell, 64, who died April 6, 2006, were held Sunday, April 9, at 3 p.m. at Pine Ridge Holiness Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Joe was born in Hartsville a son of the late Beauford Caddell Sr. and Mary Brown Caddell. He was a member of Pine Ridge Holiness Church and retired from Talley Metals. Surviving are daughters, Tabby Windham and Lisa Simmons of Lamar; sisters: Lourene Davis, Amanda Caddell of McBee, Drucilla Clemenger of Hartsville, Joyce Banks of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers, Bob Caddell and Gerald Parker of McBee, Frank and Barney Parker of Hartsville; daughter-in-law, Michell Caddell of Hartsville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Starling Caddell; son, Jeffery Kent Caddell; brother, Beauford Caddell Jr.

JACK Y. SOWELL
Funeral services for Jack Youlden Sowell, 72, will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 12, 2006, at Hartsville Church of God.

Burial will be in McBee cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Sowell, who died April 10, was born in McBee, the son of the late Levi Wilson and Aline Davis Sowell. He was a member of McBee Baptist Church, Sandhills Classic Car Club, McBee Masonic Lodge No. 313, and a veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Vivian Teal Sowell of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-laws, Motsy and Timmy Hill of Chesterfield, Paula and Ken Lawhon of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sheila Petty of Hartsville; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Kenny Segars of McBee; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Sowell was predeceased by sons, Jack Sowell Jr. and Will Sowell; and a grandson, Derrick Wayne Sowell.

HORTON GEDDINGS
PAXVILLE - Funeral services for Horton Edward 'Buddy' Geddings, 63, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Burial followed in Paxville Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Geddings, husband of Joyce Holley Geddings, died Saturday, April 8, in Paxville. He was born Nov. 30, 1942, in Manning, a son of Eva Mae Geddings Bradsher and the late Donald Geddings. He was employed by Wal-Mart and was a member of Paxville Baptist Church.

Surviving, beside his wife and mother of Paxville, are two sons, Horton Edward 'Ed' Geddings Jr. and his fiance, Alecia of Oak Island, N.C., and Michael Jason Geddings of Sumter and friend, Jessica Lyons; two brothers, Larry Van Geddings of Picayune, Miss., and Donald Ray Geddings of Santee; two sisters, Penny Kay Brown of Columbia and Marie Bradsher Davis of Manning.

He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Odella Geddings; and a nephew, Jacob Davis.

Pallbearers were Jamie Corbett, Harry Lee Bryant II, Lee Davis, Eric McCall, Drew Casselman and Gerald Galloway.

ELLA MARGARET BLACKWELL
Graveside services for Ella Margaret Flowers Blackwell, 66, were held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Damascus cemetery. The Rev. Ed Griggs officiated, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Blackwell, widow of Robert Blackwell, died Sunday, April 9. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late John Curtis and Maggie Barefoot Flowers.

Surviving are her brother, Rush Flowers of Cheraw; niece, Susan Waters; nephew, Billy Waters. She was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis Griggs; sisters, Carolyn Waters and Patricia Tapscott.

MARY McIVER
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McIver of 2028 E. Home Ave., died on Saturday, April, 8, 2006, at Carolinas Hospital System of Florence. The family will receive friends at the residence. Hines Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.

MARY McIVER
Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Daniels McIver were held at 1 p. m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Centerville AME Church. The burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. J.L. Rouse, the pastor of the church, officiated the services.

Mrs. McIver, was a devoted wife and mother. The example she lived day by day will forever be a goal for her family to strive to reach. She was a wonderful person, who touched the lives of many people in the Centerville Community. She was a member of Centerville A.M.E. Church.

She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Artesia Peoples Daniels and David Daniels of Lamar. When she was seven, she and her family moved to Hartsville. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County.

All of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Her husband of 53 years, Howard William McIver, also preceded her in death. She was always faithful to God and the church. Her memory will continue to remain in our lives and hearts.

'Can, ' as she was sometimes called, leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Rosalind Mason and Sonobby McIver, both of Hartsville, and Lila Marsh of Florence; four sons, Donald (Willie Mae) Daniels, William McIver, Gregory McIver, all of Hartsville, and John (Maxine) Daniels of New York, N.Y.; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; an adopted daughter Rena James; an adopted grandson, Dennis Yeboah; and a host of nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends.

LUCILLE G. ROGERS
Services for Lucille Gainey Rogers, 85, will be held today, April 14, 2006, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Burial will be in McBee cemetery.

Mrs. Rogers, widow of Hardy J. Rogers Sr., died on Wednesday, April 12. She was born in McBee the daughter of the late Gilliam and Liddie Dixon Gainey. Surviving are her daughter, Lydia M. Cumbee of North Charleston; his son, Hardy Rogers Jr. of Cassatt; sisters, Alice Blackwell of Chesterfield and Alma King Hartsville. www.nortonfh.net

BETTE W. BURGARD
Memorial services for Bette West Burgard, 79, who died March 30, 2006, were held Thursday, April 13, at 1 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Mike Blankenship and Mr. Terry Buchanan officiated, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Mrs. Burgard was born in Pardoe, Penn., the daughter of Lena Ziccardi West and the late Jesse West. She was a member of the First Church Of The Nazarene.

Surviving are her mother of Hartsville; husband, Albert E. Burgard Jr. of Hartsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Margurite and Wayne Buchanan of Clearwater, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church Of The Nazarene Children's Ministry, PO Box 1092, Hartsville, SC 29551.

GAIL MORRISON
PELZER - Memorial services for Gail Dickerson Morrison, 63, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, April 14, 2006, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Roy Porter officiating.

Mrs. Morrison died Saturday, April 8, at her home. She was born in Pelzer, a daughter of Mildred Harris Willimon and the late Norwood Dickerson.

Surviving are her mother of Greenville; daughters, Harris Morrison and Greer Morrison of Greenville; a grandchild Macgregor Berg of Greenville; a brother of Cayce. She was the mother of the late Robert Coleman Morrison.

The family is at the home of her daughters, Harris and Greer Morrison, 136 Buist Ave., Greenville.

Memorials may be made to Greenville Child Abuse Center, 2905 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611.

A child advocate, she was a devoted grandmother and homemaker.

RUTH BROWN
Ruth Haire Brown, 85, died Thursday, April 13, 2006. Funeral plans will be announced later by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, April 14, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARY F. JOHNSON
Funeral services for Mary Frances Hampton Johnson will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 19, 2006, at Centenary United Methodist Church. The burial will follow in the Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Kenneth Nelson, the pastor of Centenary, will officiate the service.

Mrs. Johnson was born May 6, 1917, to Willie Hampton and Rosa Lee Barmore Hampton in Ware Shoals. She said that she was a gift to her parents because she was born on her mother's birthday. She was called home to glory early in the morning on Good Friday, April 14, 2006.

She graduated from Brewer High School in Greenwood, and received a certificate to teach from South Carolina State College in 1941. Also graduating that summer from South Carolina State was Monroe James 'MJ' Johnson, who later that year would become her husband. She moved to Mullins to teach and received a degree in elementary education from Morris College. After teaching in Marion for 14 years, the Johnsons made Hartsville their home. Mrs. Johnson taught for 46 years in Marion, Chesterfield and Darlington counties.

Mary Frances and Monroe Johnson were married Oct. 27, 1941, and had four children. She was loved dearly by her husband, three sons: Willie O. (Glenda), Nolan B. (Renate), and Loranza C. (Burnetta) Johnson, and one daughter, Stephanie J. (Thomas) Richardson. She is predeceased by her husband, MJ, and sons, Loranza and Willie.

Her Christian teachings started early in a Christian home. At an early age, Mary Frances accepted Christ and joined Dunn Creek Baptist Church. She had a generous spirit and established a reputation for helping others in the community. She served in various capacities in several church families, the longest as church clerk. She has been a member of Centenary United Methodist Church for a number of years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women (serving many years as treasurer), Les Dignitaires de la Ville and the Alpha Pi Chi Sorority. During her relocation to Summerville, she attended Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Johnson leaves to cherish fond memories daughter, Stephanie of Summerville; son, Nolan of Langen, Germany; one sister, Odessa Jones of Ware Shoals; seven grandchildren, Garreth (Stormy), Garron (Tanya) and Gennith Johnson of New Orleans, La., Nolan B. Johnson Jr. (Christina) of Germany, Tiffany Frances Johnson of Baltimore, Md., and Marcus (Emily) and Bryan Richardson of Charlotte, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

JOHN HENRY NEWSOME SR.
Funeral services for John Henry Newsome Sr., 79, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lydia. The Rev. Richard Hopper will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Box 56, Lydia, SC 29079.

Mr. Newsome died Monday, April 17. He was a son of the late C.W. Newsome Sr. and Mattie King Newsome and was a native and lifelong resident of Hartsville. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Gedelle Melton Newsome, for almost 60 years.

He started a car business in 1947 with a single automobile. A self-made entrepreneur, he watched his one-car venture grow into a full-sized dealership. He founded Newsome Dodge in the 1960s which eventually evolved into multiple dealerships. He shared his love of cars with an entire community. His easy-going personality and his jovial spirit earned him the loving name of 'Mr. John.' He was awarded 'A Man of the 40s' Award from Clanton Auto Auction in 2003. He was a Past Master of the Hartsville Masonic Lodge No. 173, a Past District Deputy Grand Master, a Shriner, and a Jolly Jeepster. He was also a member of the Hartsville Lion's Club.

He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, the Wesley Chapel Men's Club, the Board of Trustees and also served as chairman of the Pastor Parish. His role as a loving patriarch earned him the Father of the Year Award in 1989. In 2001 he received the Man of the Year Award from Wesley Chapel.

He was proud to be a member of the 'Greatest Generation' and also proud of his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of Hartsville and his four children and their spouses, Brenda Newsome and Ronald Wayne Radcliffe of Hartsville, John Henry Newsome Jr. and Patricia 'Pat' Miller Newsome of Palm Beach, Fla., Violet Newsome Bragdon and Robert 'Bobby' Bragdon of Hartsville, Ricky Newsome and Deborah 'Deb' Cannarella Newsome of Hartsville; grandchildren, John Henry Newsome III, John Richard 'Ric' Newsome, Raymond 'Ray' Vincent Newsome, William 'Wil' Wellington Newsome and Noelle Newsome Radcliffe; sister, Christine Newsome Tolson of Hartsville; special caregiver, Willistine Gregg of Hartsville.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Newsome, William Newsome, George Newsome, Elbert Newsome, David Newsome and Harley Newsome.

MAETTA G. GALLOWAY
Graveside services for Maetta Grantham Galloway, 90, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Mount Elon Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Phil Ellenburg officiated and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Elon Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 38, Lydia, SC 29079.

Mrs. Galloway, widow of Toy Galloway Sr., died Sunday, April 16. Born in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late Nick and Sudie Outlaw Grantham. She was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Toy and Shelby Galloway Jr. of Lydia; daughters and son-in-law, Sudie and Lyn Tew of Myrtle Beach, Joyce G. Hicks of Florence; sister, Thelma Parnell of Bishopville; brother, Shady Grantham of Hartsville; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandsons.
