Joseph K. "Joe Keith" Fulmer
December 20, 2008

Joseph K. “Joe Keith” Fulmer, Sr., 90, of 832 Mountain St., Little Mountain, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at his residence.
He was born on October 9, 1918 in Little Mountain to the late Charles C. and Lillian Sease Fulmer. He worked in the construction industry and retired from Epting Ballenger. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he was active in the Lutheran Men and served on the Church Council, the Building Committee and many other church groups. Mr. Fulmer enjoyed Sudoko, crossword puzzles, card games and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by two daughters, Rosann F. Lester of Newberry, Cheryl F. (Terry) Mellinger of Little Mountain; two sons C. Fred (Lynn) Fulmer and Joseph Keith (Janet) Fulmer, Jr. all of Little Mountain; seven grandchildren, Robby Lester, Neal Lester, Mark Lester, Cliff Fulmer, Warren Fulmer, Brian Fulmer, and Dana Dorroh; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Reba Fulmer Epting of Little Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Rosalyn Boland Fulmer; two grandchildren, Angela Lynn Evans and McClain Fulmer Evans; two brothers, John L. Fulmer and Ellis H. Fulmer; and a son-in-law, Bobby Lester.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Fred Suhr. Interment were in the church cemetery.
The family was at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. J. K. Fulmer, Jr., 2841 Wheeland Rd., Little Mountain, and did receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
Active Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, PA 23058-5216.

Floyd H. Dennis
December 15, 2008

Floyd H. Dennis, 98, formerly of 1229 Kinard St. and husband of the late Anna Pearsall Dennis, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Newberry County on October 21, 1910 to the late Adger and Leila Dennis. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was retired from the S.C. National Guard after 27 years of service.
Mr. Dennis was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder, a member of the Neil Truesdale Sunday School class and participated with a singing group at the area nursing homes. He was a former member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a skilled craftsman who worked with numerous materials. He enjoyed repairing and rebuilding guns, building grandfather clocks and other items. He built the podium that is currently used at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church as well as other items within the church.
Mr. Dennis is survived by his daughter, Floy Ann Dennis Lipscomb and her husband Lewis of Springfield, VA; a sister, Blanche Felker of Clinton; a nephew and a number of nieces.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Mitch VanMetre. Interment were in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family did receive friends at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. prior to the service on Wednesday.
Active pallbearers were Elders of Aveleigh. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Neil Truesdale Sunday School class.
Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun St., Newberry, SC 29108.

Betty Jane "Liz" Drexelius
December 14, 2008

Betty Jane “Liz” Drexelius, 73, of Chapin, died Sunday December 14, 2008 at her residence.
She was born in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Martin J. and Mildred M (Burkhardt) Braunscheidel. She was a retired regional coordinator for MetLife Insurance Co. and was a member of Our Lady of the Lady Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Drexelius, Jr. of Chapin; two daughters, Jeannie M. Drexelius of Chapin and Elizabeth A. Pollard of Columbia; her son, Martin R. Drexelius of Buckeye, AZ; a sister, Mildred F. Lohiser of Orchard Park, NY; six grandchildren; Brandan Pollard, Karl Drexelius, Katie Pollard, Karen Drexelius, Lindsey Pollard and Corey Pollard and 2 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Arlene E. Wilson.
The Rosary was recited Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church by Reverend Andrew J. Vollkommer. Private interment was in St. Peters Catholic Church Cemetery in Columbia.
Memorials may be sent to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Building Fund, PO Box 549, Chapin, SC 29036.
Active pallbearers were Brandan Pollard, Corey Pollard, Karl Drexelius, Chris Cromer, Anthony Stanley, and Victor Gonzales

Annie Mae Kinard Bobb
December 9, 2008

Annie Mae Kinard Bobb, 102, formerly of 2549 Bachman Chapel Road, Prosperity, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at White Oak Manor.
She was born on December 2, 1906 in Williamston, a daughter of the late John A. and Eugenia Carson Kinard. She was a long time active member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church and was the oldest living member of the church and was a member of the “So" Group.
She was predeceased by her husband, Homer A. Bobb and her son, Leroy Bobb.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Frick Bobb; a grandson, Donnie Bobb and his wife and two great grandsons, Tanner and Jason Bobb all of Prosperity. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, at Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Floyd Sides and the Rev. James F. Shealy. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family was at 2543 Bachman Chapel Road, Prosperity, and did receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Kinard, Jimmy Boozer, John Derrick, Richard Crumpton, David Kinard, and Harold Sease. Honorary pallbearers were William Kinard, Donnie Kinard, Paul Derrick, Ricky Kinard, Tommy Kinard, Charles White, and Robert White.
Memorials may be made to Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church, 3074 Bachman Chapel Rd., Prosperity, SC 29127.

William H. Franklin, Jr.
December 3, 2008

William H. Franklin, Jr., 85, of 1119 Summer St., Newberry died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Newberry County on May 28, 1923 to the late W. Hayne and Josie Brock Franklin, Sr. He was an US Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and a retired mail carrier with the US Postal Service. Mr. Franklin was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and a former member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of the McDonalds Coffee Club and was a Master Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Byrd Franklin of the home; his son, William H “Bill” Franklin, III and wife Carolyn of Irmo; two grandsons, Brian D. Franklin and wife Monica of Gilbert and Kevin A. Franklin and wife Karen of Lexington; three great grandchildren, Joel, Ashton and Landon Franklin; and two sisters, Maggie Lee Davis of Newberry and Joan Phibbs of Aiken. He was predeceased by a brother, Gus B. Franklin and a sister, Ida Mae Hawkins.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 PM Friday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Caldwell Day. Interment were in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
Pallbearers were his nephews; Gus Franklin, Jr., Jim Franklin, Henry Franklin, George Franklin, Hayne Davis, Andy Hawkins, Robert Phibbs, and Ben Phibbs. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Growing in Grace, PO Box 382, Newberry, SC 29108.

Verna Ruth Patten Burdick
January 21, 2009

Verna Ruth Patten Burdick, 86, of 326 Smallwood Dr., Chapin, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Lexington Medical Center.
She was born on April 19, 1922 in Saratoga Springs, NY to the late David B.H. and Ruth Patten. She was married to the late John Wesley Burdick for 58 years.
Mrs. Burdick was an administrative assistant for many years with Saratoga Spa. She was a member of First Alliance Church of Saratoga Springs, NY and attended Chapin United Methodist Church in Chapin, SC.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Antoinette and her husband John “Tony” of Chapin and Kathleen Ruth Camacho of Memphis, TN; a son, John David Burdick and wife Janet L. “Bunny” of Baltimore, MD; eight grandchildren, Robert Antoinette and wife Sarah, Scott Antoinette and wife Dawn, Leann Phillips, Traci Livingston and husband Rodney, Todd Burdick, Jeffrey Burdick, Erin Mullinax and husband Daniel and Adam Camacho and wife Cassie; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Chapin.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in Newberry Memorial Gardens by Rev. Jody Flowers.
The family was at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, John “Tony” and Donna Antoinette, 326 Smallwood Drive, Chapin, SC 29036.
Active pallbearers were Scott Antoinette, Todd Burdick, Jeffrey Burdick, Rodney Livingston, Wesley Livingston, Daniel Mullinax and Jamey Mills.

James “Jimmy” C. Cousins
January 19, 2009

James “Jimmy” C. Cousins, 93, of 149 Wilbon Circle, Simpsonville, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Hillcrest Hospital.
Mr. Cousins was born on Oct. 5, 1915 in Newberry County, a son of the late John H. and Ila Cromer Cousins.
He retired from the Greenville Water Works System and was a former Superintendent of the Mauldin, Fountain Inn, Simpsonville Water District and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
He is survived by 2 sons, Y. Floyd Cousins of Central and John Lloyd Cousins of Greenville; 4 grandchildren, Chad Cousins, Paul Cousins, Jennifer C. Adams, and Kelly Cousins; and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Eula Floyd Cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin by the Rev. John Yost, III. Interment services were conducted at 2:30 PM, Thursday in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family was at 163 Green Lake Dr., Greenville and did receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 AM in the church social hall prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers were Chad Cousins, Paul Cousins, Rooney Floyd, Yank Floyd, Gaston Floyd, Tim Conner, Randall Gilbert and Wendell Gilbert.
