WILLIE MAE McCALL
Funeral services for Willie Mae 'Margaret' McCall were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at Second Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. Rev. J. D. Blue, the pastor of Second Baptist, officiated the service.

Mrs. McCall was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Willie and Maggie Prescott McCall. She was educated in the public schools of the county. She was married to Deacon Alfred McCall, who preceded her in death. Mrs. McCall was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess for many years until her health declined. She was a compassionate person who visited the sick and saw to their needs as she saw fit. Her love and concern for others will be sorely missed by all in the Hartsville community.

'Margaret, ' as she was known throughout the community, worked for a number of years with the Langston family here in Hartsville and worked at the family-owned florist as well.

Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Willie Mae 'Margaret' McCall are her daughter, Lisa (Harry) Jeffery of Hartsville; one brother, Tommie Lee (Wilhelmenia) Cabbagestalk of Hartsville; several nieces, Vanessa Cabbagestalk, Ava (Tommy) McNeil, Tommy Cabbagestalk, all of Hartsville; special nephews, Martin (Judy) Cabbagestalk and Nicholas Cabbagestalk, both of Hartsville, and T.J. (Betty) McCall of Darlington; a special cousin, Annie Addison of Hartsville; special grandchildren, Mia and Alonzo Jeffery, both of Hartsville; other nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, other relatives and very dear friends.

HAROLD W. BRASINGTON, JR.
DARLINGTON - Services for Harold Witherspoon Brasington Jr., 63, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, May 10, 2006, in St. Matthews Episcopal Church, with interment following in Grove Hill cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Fred Gough and directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Brasington died Saturday, May 6. He was born in Florence, son of the late Harold W. and Mildred Baker Brasington Sr. Harold served his country in the National Guard, then owned and operated along with his father, H.W. Brasington Sand and Gravel. He always had an interest in Darlington Raceway and was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and their Men's Club.

Surviving are his wife, Rosanne Dargan Brasington of Darlington, three sons: Harold W. (Dawn) Brasington III, of Florence, Dargan E. Brasington of Boulder, Colo., George E. (Whitney) Brasington of Celo, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Annie Brasington and Clark Burnside of Charleston; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rescue Mission, 1327 Olanta Hwy, Effingham, SC 29541.

BARTY C. BROWN
Funeral services for Barty Clyde Brown, 42, will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 10, 2006, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Hazel Mixon will officiate, with burial in Patrick cemetery.

Mr. Brown died Sunday, May 7. Born in Darlington, he was a son of Catherine Howle Brown and the late Clyde Brown. He was loved by his family, loved his son, his mother, and was a good friend to all. He was also an avid hunter.

Surviving are his son, Waylon Brown; daughters, Brandy Cole Brown and Kattie Cole Brown, all of Hartsville; mother, of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Heyward Dixon, Sandra and Billy Wayne Freeman, all of Hartsville; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald 'Ronnie' and Debbie Brown of Hartsville; nieces, Dana and Dave Johnson, Tonda and Hinson Hodge, Stacie and Buddy Windham. He was preceded in death by his niece, Pansy Rhynes.

FRANCES D. DANIEL
Services for Frances Denham Daniel, 83, widow of Ralph R. Daniel Sr. were held Monday, May 8, 2006, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, N.C.

Mrs. Daniel died Saturday, May 6. She was born in Summerset, Ky., daughter of the late George and Betsy Zacakrey Denham. She was a member of Berea Christian Fellowship. Surviving are her daughter, Lorraine Hall, Hartsville; son, James M. Daniel, Charlotte; brother, Carl Denham, Salisbury, N.C.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph R. Daniel Jr.

ROBERT GILLIARD
Robert J. 'Bobby' Gilliard died Monday, May 8, 2006, at the Medical University of South Carolina. The family will receive friends at the residence, 2165 E. Gum Circle, Hartsville. Hines Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES W. MICHAEL
LAMAR - Mr. Charles Wesley Michael died on Monday, May 8, 2006, at his residence after an illness. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister at 106 McLain St. in Lamar. Hines Funeral Home of Lamar is in charge of all arrangements.

DICK WHISENHUNT JR.
Funeral services for James E. 'Dick' Whisenhunt Jr., 87, will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 10, 2006, at West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Sullivan and the Rev. Dr. Bev Kennedy will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Carolina Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.

Mr. Whisenhunt died Sunday, May 7, 2006. Born in Whittier, N.C., he was a son of the late James E. and Frances Gibbs Whisenhunt. He was a faithful charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Air Force as a pilot during World War II and was retired as an engineer from Sonoco Products Co. with 41 years of service. He was previously involved in the Civitans, Little League Baseball, Boy Scouts and Civil Air Patrol.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Malphus Whisenhunt of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dickie and Reba Whisenhunt of Anderson; Steve and Elaine Whisenhunt of Augusta, Ga.; daughters, Winnie Franks of Newnan, Ga., Fran Floyd of Chester; sister, Louise Lane of Hazelwood, N.C.; brother, Earl Whisenhunt of Chandler, N.C.; brother-in-law, Happy Malphus of Hartsville; grandchildren, Jim Whisenhunt, Shannon Keller, Joseph Whisenhunt, Christy Graves, Amanda Haggan, Andrew Whisenhunt, Steven Whisenhunt, Matt Whisenhunt, Amy Westbrook, Natalie Franks, Tripp Floyd and Hannah Floyd; 18 great-grandchildren.

DORIS McINVAILLE
Funeral services for Doris Gandy McInvaille, 86, will be held at 12 noon Thursday, May 11, 2006, at West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Bev Kennedy will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia SC 29210 or West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Carolina Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. McInvaille, widow of Ervin McInvaille, died Tuesday, May 9. Born in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late James Walter and Lula McIntosh Gandy. She was a charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery for many years. She was a graduate of Hartsville High School and worked for Liberty Life Insurance Co. as their cashier/accountant for several years. She was a gifted seamstress and crafter who enjoyed sharing her talents with others.

Surviving are her daughter, Teresa 'Terry' McInvaille Jones of Marietta, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Ervin Scott and Pinky McInvaille of Fayetteville, N.C., sister, Lula King of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Summer McInvaille of Sullivan's Island, Ward McInvaille of Fayetteville, N.C., Emily Jones of Marietta, Ga., Scott Jones of Marietta, Ga.

RICHARD COOLEY
Funeral services for Richard Lee Cooley, 69, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006, at South Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Dave Worthington will officiate with burial in Byrd cemetery, Timmonsville, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, May 10, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cooley died Tuesday, May 9. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Oran and Mayme Redick Cooley. He was a member of South Hartsville Baptist Church and was retired from Ard Transportation.

Surviving are his wife, Edna Hancock Cooley of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Kay Cooley of McBee; daughter, Marie Schaff of Hartsville; grandchildren, Crystal Marie Jones, Jennifer Lee Jones, John Robert Jones, J. L. Schaff, Jessica Schaff, Katie Tyner; great-grandchildren, Brandon Jones and Jason Jones. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ruth Annette Cooley Gainey, and his brother, Winston Lee Cooley.

TRESSIE HUGHEY
Funeral services for Tressie Polson Hughey, 90, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Twitty United Methodist Church. The Rev. DeVere Williams will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, May 10, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hughey, widow of Raymond E. Hughey, died Tuesday, May 9. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late John Ervin and Georgianna Watkins Polson.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Mason Hughey, Ronald and Janice Hughey, all of Hartsville, Raymond and Barbara Hughey Jr. of Darlington; daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and Fred Cerutti of Chattanooga, Tenn., Donna and Richard Cowick of Charlotte, N.C., Linda Coates of Hartsville; sister, Louise Grant of Florence; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

HANRIETTA 'DOLL' HENDERSON
Funeral services for Hanrietta 'Doll' Henderson, 94, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006, at the Mt. Calvary AME Church of Hartsville. The Rev. E. Robert Thomas, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. John UMC cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.

Mrs. Henderson died on Saturday, May 6, at a Florence Health Care Facility.

WILLIE J. HICKMAN
Memorial services for Willie James Hickman, 54, were held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2006, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel with Bishop Vera M. Davis officiating. Services were conducted by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Hickman died Sunday, April 30. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Junious and Lillie Mae Joe Hickman. He received his education in the public schools in the area and was a graduate of Butler High School. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are two daughters, Ivory McNeil and Angel McNeil; five sisters, Betty Perkins of Darlington, Verna Hickman of McBee, Ella Pooler, Frances Hickman and Dorothy Hickman, all of Hartsville; one brother, Nathaniel Joe (Avon) Magazine of Philadelphia, Pa.; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

HENRIETTA HENDERSON
Funeral services for Henrietta 'Doll' Henderson were held on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Mt. Calvary AME Church. The burial followed in the St. John United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. E. Robert Thomas, pastor of Mt. Calvary, officiated the service.

Mrs. Henderson was born Nov. 24, 1911, in Dalzell, a daughter of Maggie Graham Butler and Paul Butler. She was educated in the public schools of the county. She worked for many years for the Horne family in Hartsville and later worked for the Timberlake family in Hartsville.

Mrs. Henderson was a lifelong member of Mt. Calvary AME Church. She organized the Usher Board at the church and served for many years. She also served on the Missionary Society, the Stewardess Board and supported all of the programs of her church.

'Doll, ' as she was known to family and friends, will be remembered as the lady that baked the good cakes. She was a kind and generous person and always greeted everyone with that loving smile.

Her husband, John Henderson, a sister, Alma Toby, her nephews, Paul Toney and George Butler, all preceded her in death.

Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Henrietta 'Doll' Henderson are her sister, Annie L. Toney; her step-daughter, Marie Sparks; three nieces, Margaret Ervin, Jean Robinson and Barbara Bethel; three nephews, Clifton Toney, William Toney and James K. McIver; special cousins, the DuRant family; a host of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, other relatives and many loving and dear friends.

T. B. NORTHCUTT JR.
Graveside services for Timothy Benjamin Northcutt Jr., 87, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Westview Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. Danny Nicholson will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends tonight, May 12, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Northcutt died Wednesday, May 10. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Timothy Benjamin and Caroline King Northcutt Sr.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Northcutt of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy B. and Laura Northcutt III of Lexington; sister, Bee Ham of Hartsville; stepsons and daughter-in-law, James Sumner of Hartsville, Clifton and Karen Sumner of Martinsburg, W. Va.; daughter-in-law, Kim Northcutt of Hartsville; grandchildren, Mallory Northcutt and Caroline Northcutt, both of Hartsville, Paige Sumner of Martinsburg, W. Va., Chase Sumner of Martinsburg, W. Va. He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
