Funeral services for Theresa Waters Woodham, 85, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at Kelleytown Baptist Church. The Revs. Rod Elliott and Gary Anderson officiated, with burial in Kelleytown Baptist Church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Kelleytown Baptist Church Building Fund, 2609 Kelleytown Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Woodham, widow of James R. Woodham, died Sunday, Oct. 1. Born in Williston, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Henry Bascomb and Grace Kelley Waters. She was an active member of Kelleytown Baptist Church and the church library staff. She was retired from the Darlington County School System, where she taught for 28 years, 22 of which were at Hartsville High School. Her family was of utmost importance.

Surviving are her son, Bobby Woodham of Birmingham, Ala.; daughters (son-in-law), Mickey Woodham of Memphis, Tenn., Debbie Barfield of Hartsville, Carol Jane (Tim) Holt of Darlington, Susan Miller of Boone, N.C.; brother-in-law, H. B. Woodham Jr. of Bishopville; sister-in-law, Ann Anderson of Bishopville; grandchildren, Ryan Barfield, Scott Barfield, Josh Woodham, Janee Woodham, Sandy A. Miller; great-grandchild, Jordan Barfield.

ANNETTE BALLARD
Graveside services for Annette Amerson Ballard, 56, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at Newman Swamp United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Ed Griggs officiated and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Ballard died Thursday, Sept. 28. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Mattie Munn Amerson.

Surviving are her husband, Leon Ballard of Hartsville; sister, Grace Singletary of Timmonsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil 'Bud' and Margaret Amerson, David and Carol Amerson, all of Hartsville; stepson, Leon and Sherri Ballard Jr. of Franklin, N.C.; stepdaughters, Deborah and Dennis Gainey, Gennie and Fritz Timmons, all of Hartsville. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Gainey, Mary Kea, and Ruby Howle; brother, Jimmy Amerson.

NFANT THOMAS SAMUEL JOYE-PATRICK
LAMAR - Thomas Samuel Joye-Patrick, infant son of Travis and Alish Joye-Patrick died on Friday, Sept. 28. Hines Funeral Home of Lamar is in charge of all arrangement.

JOSEPH M. WILKES
TIMMONSVILLE - Funeral services for Joseph Mozingo Wilkes, 85, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Lake Swamp Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery, directed by Layton-Anderson Funeral Home of Florence.

Mr. Wilkes died Wednesday, Sept. 27. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Lilburn Olina and Myrtle Mozingo Wilkes. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Wilkes graduated from Texas A&M.; He retired from Carolina Bank.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Ham Wilkes, Timmonsville; two daughters, Kathy Poole (Alan) of Lamar, Gina Wilkes of Timmonsville; one brother, Thad Wilkes; one sister, Celeste Carraway, both of Timmonsville; three grandchildren, Miles, Josh and Caleb Poole; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Ham, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Dorriety.

CHARLENE GASKINS
JEFFERSON - Funeral services for Charlene Gaskins, 39, were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at Mt. Elon United Methodist Church. Burial followed services in the Angelus Chapel Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

Ms. Gaskins died Thursday, Sept. 28, at her residence after an illness. She was born in Chesterfield County, a daughter of Mae Frances Gaskins and the late James Henry Gaskins. Ms. Gaskins received her education in the public schools in the area.

Surviving other than her mother Mae Frances Gaskins of Jefferson; are three daughters, Keisha M. Kirkland and Myeisha Gaskins both of Jefferson, and Myia McEachin of Wilson, N.C.; two sons, Adrian Gaskins of Clemson, and Quentin Gaskins of Jefferson; three sisters, Brenda King and Linda Gaskins both of Jefferson, Patricia Gaskins of Charlotte, N.C.; five brothers, Pete (Linda) Gaskins of Jersey City, N.J., Timothy (Mary) Gaskins, Lonnie (Sylvia) Gaskins, Christopher Gaskins and Terry Gaskins all of Jefferson; one aunt, Johnnie Mae (John) Jowers of Jefferson; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

GLEN COLLINS JR.
Funeral services for Glen C. (Joe Joe) Collins Jr., 21, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tim Cole will officiate with burial in Black Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight, from 5-7. at the funeral home.

Mr. Collins died Monday, Oct. 2. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Michelle Hodge Collins and the late Glen C. Collins Sr.

Surviving are his mother; sisters and brother-in-law, Heather Michelle Collins and Brock Anthony Shelton, Christin Anita Collins; step-father, Steven Douglas Cagle; step-brothers, Chris Griggs, Steven Douglas Cagle Jr.; step-sister, Stacie Leigh Cagle; maternal grandparents, Billy and Linda Hodge; niece, Jessica Brooke Shelton, all of Hartsville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Collins and his paternal grandparents, Barney and Mildred Collins.

AVICE FREEMAN
Graveside services for Avice Petty Freeman will be held at 4 p.m. today, Oct. 11, 2006, at Magnolia cemetery. The Revs. John Stephenson and Sonny Swell will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Freeman, widow of William C. Freeman, died Monday, Oct. 9. Born in Society Hill, she was a daughter of the late George Edward and Mary Gandy Petty. She was owner and operator of Petty Grocery and was a beloved mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, W. C. and Kara Freeman of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Karl Witmer of Gaston; sisters, Miriam Edwards, Daisy Brown, Mary Lyles, Shirley Strickland, all of Hartsville; grandchildren and spouse, Alice and Michael Moir of West Columbia, Dubby and Shann Freeman of Hartsville, Kacy Freeman of Florence; and three great-grandchildren.

OPHELIA P. BOLLERMANN
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Ophelia Norris Privette Bollermann, 90, were held at 11 a.m Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with the Revs. Ben Maynard and Ed Middleton officiating. Interment followed in Wesley Chapel cemetery, Lydia.

Mrs. Bollermann died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Oct. 8, at Bethea Baptist Retirement Center. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late John and Bessie Elizabeth Lockhart Norris. She was married to the late Leo Privette and the late Gordon Bollermann. She was a housewife and member of Bethea Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Leo Frederick (Beverly) Privette of New Jersey and Lincoln L. (Betty) Privette Sr. of Darlington; five daughters, Jacqueline (James) Pope of Atlanta, Ga., Kaye (J.C.) Hodge of Hartsville, Grace E. Privette of Dawsonville, Ga., Pamela R. Privette of Atlanta, Ga., and Gailya L. (George) Walter of Edisto; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bessie Johnson of Hartsville, Etta Lee Gwin of Fort Mill and Annie Mae Howard of North Carolina; also, a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Privette of Darlington.

Mrs. Bollermann was preceded in death by her son, Donald Privette.

Memorials are suggested to Bethea Baptist Retirement Center, PO Box 4000, Darlington, SC 29540.

GEORGE WALLACE
DARLINGTON - George Gary Wallace, 83, passed away Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006. Funeral services were held at Central Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8. Interment follow in Mt. Hope cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Wallace was born in Florence, son of the late George G. and Daisey Marie Stewart Wallace. George served his country in the U.S. Army and then worked as an electrician for CSX Railroad until his retirement. He was a member of Hampton Lodge 204, a past president of the IBEW Florence Chapter and a member of the Railroad Retirement Men's Club. Mr. Wallace was a member of Central Baptist Church, where he was a past president of the Jim Oliver Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Varhalla Wallace of Darlington; two sons, George (Karen) Wallace III of Atlanta; Terry (Karen) Wallace of Florence; a daughter, Sandra Muller of Chesapeake, Va.; a number of grandchildren; a sister, Deloris Lee of Columbia, and two step-children, Lisa (Wayne) Rhodes; Bobby (JoLynn) Deas, both of Darlington.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 512 Spring St., Darlington, SC or McLeod's Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St, Florence, SC 29506.

JESSIE CLARK
DARLINGTON - Jessie Clark died Monday, Oct. 9, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 3109 Evelyn Circle, Darlington.

ANNIE SUE KIRKLEY
Funeral services for Annie Sue Hopkins Kirkley, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 11, 2006, at Twitty United Methodist Church. The Rev. Julius Hadden will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Twitty United Methodist Church, 408 Coker Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Kirkley, widow of the Rev. Charles Kirkley, died Monday, Oct. 9. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late James and Zora Burkett Hopkins.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Suzette and Wayne Catoe of Florence, Beverly and Jack Campbell of Hartsville; sister and brother-in-law, Argent and Adrian Barr of Graham, N.C.; grandchildren, Natalie and Tommy Scruggs, Ashley and Rus Sheppard, Glynn Willis; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Charlene Kirkley.

COLEY HUGGINS
DARLINGTON - Graveside funeral services for Coley Leon Huggins, 71, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 11, 2006, at Darlington Memory Gardens, officiated by the Rev. Gary Boykin Jr. and the Rev. Cyrus Shoffner, and directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Huggins died Sunday, Oct. 8, in a Florence hospital. He was born in Sumter County, son of the late Coley Ruthan and Maude Prescott Huggins. He served his country with the United States Air Force and had retired after 34 years with DuPont, where he was a member of the 25 Year Club. He was married to the late Christine Windham Huggins. Mr. Huggins was a member of the Woodmen of the World and enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and James Harrell III of Belgium, Christy and William Tuck of Darlington, Alison and Jeff Brooks of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Tyler Harrell, Cole Harrell, Madeline Tuck and Brad Brooks; two sisters, Marydell (Ernest) Griggs of Ashwood and Carolyn 'Kink' (Elbert) Hancock of Hartsville; and one brother, Larry (Romell) Huggins of Ashwood.

ANNIE T. ELLIOTT
Funeral services for Annie Tyler Sutherland Elliott, 93, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at Wesley United Methodist Church. The Revs. Frankie Tanner and David McIntosh officiated with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Elliott, widow of William 'Bill' Elliott, died Thursday, Oct. 5. Born in Laurinburg, N.C., she was a daughter of the late James L. and Blanche Reynolds Sutherland. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she served as a secretary for 25 years. She was an active member of the Civinettes for 30 years where she was active in producing the Halloween Carnival. After retirement, she enjoyed delivering Meals On Wheels for several years. She was a faithful visitor to shut-ins from her church and neighborhood.

Surviving are her son, William B. Elliott of Boston, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Claud Crowder of Hartsville; brother, H. Laurin Sutherland of Laurinburg, N.C. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James L. Sutherland Jr. and W. Reynolds Sutherland.

ELIZABETH D. HOWARD
SUMTER - Funeral services for Elizabeth Dixon Howard, 73, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Betty Gainey and the Rev. Donnie Collins officiating. Burial was in the Sumter cemetery.

Mrs. Howard, widow of Olin J. Howard Sr., died Wednesday, Oct. 4, at her home. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Edward Dixon and the late Minnie Estelle Howard Dixon. She was retired from Campbell's Soup Co. and was a member of Faith Outreach Assembly Church. Mrs. Howard was a loving mother.

Survivors include seven children, Victoria Butler of Ala., Margaret Dancy of Sumter, Brenda Watford of Hartsville, Olin J. Howard Jr. of Sumter, Joseph Howard of Alabama, Linda Barkley of Dalzell, and Beverly Howard of Sumter; one brother, Thomas Dixon of Florida; three sisters, Beatrice Dixon of North Carolina, Miriam Dixon of Sumter, and Dianne McElveen of Hartsville; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christina Anne Dancy; a brother, Edward Dixon; and a sister, Edith Dixon.

Pallbearers were Luther Lee, Trapper Lee, Steven Turner, James Dancy Jr., Allen Parker, and Bradley Howard.

RUSSELL E. GANDY
Funeral services for Russell Ervin Gandy, 26, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Robert Faile will officiate, with burial in Magnolia cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia SC 29210 or Shriner's Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Geenville, SC 29605-4277.

Mr. Gandy died Sunday, Oct. 8. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of James C. Gandy and Lynn Hamrick and Ralph Boles. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. A 1999 graduate of Hartsville High School, he attained a degree in welding from Florence-Darlington Technical College. He was formerly employed with Home Depot where he received numerous awards of merit for his dedicated service.

Surviving are his father of Hartsville; mother and step-father of Florence; sister, Misty Gandy of Hartsville; brother, Brad Gandy of Hartsville; aunt and uncle, Deborah and Bert Simpson of Hartsville; cousins, Henry Simpson of Ahoskie, N.C., B.J. Simpson of Virginia Beach, Va.; paternal grandparents, Jean Gandy and the late J. W. Gandy of Hartsville; maternal grandparents, Jack E. and Gloria Hamrick of Little River.

VIRGINIA SANDERS
SOCIETY HILL - Virginia Sanders died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 189 Union St., Society Hill.

WILLIAM McFARLAND
William McFarland, 58, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at McLeod Hospice House. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 2128 Flinns Road, Hartsville.
