BILL REAVES
Funeral services for Billy McCoy Reaves, 80, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tony Medlin officiated with burial in Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery of Bishopville, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St. Luke United Methodist Church, 302 Dunlap Dr., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mr. Reaves died Saturday, Oct. 14. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Audrey Lee and Myrtle McCoy Reaves. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and formerly served as chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a graduate of Clemson College, a member of Kiwanis, and a past president of IPTAY and served many years on its board. He was a former board member of Darlington County D.S.S. and a past president of the Southeastern Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry. He was a charter member of the Clemson Presidents Club.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Lunn Reaves of Hartsville; sons, Michael M. Reaves of Columbia, Gregory L. Reaves of Hickory, N.C.; grandson, Justin Reaves of Clemson. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Reaves, and brother, Lee Reaves.

Pallbearers were Glenn Lawhon, Howard Tucker, Phil Kennedy, John Hayes, John Walker, Tommy Usher, Edward Lunn. Honorary pallbearers were the IPTAY Board of Directors.

JOE B. STEWART
Funeral services for Joseph Boyd Stewart, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Lydia. The Rev. Richard Hopper will officiate, with burial in church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, Oct. 18, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the John Fling Ministry, 2916 River Dr. Columbia, SC 29201.

Mr. Stewart, widower of Emma Cooper Stewart, died Monday, Oct. 16. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late James O. and Mamie Suggs Stewart. He was an all state baseball player at Hartsville High School and played in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. He led Oates community to several state championships in semi-pro baseball league. He worked for 32 years for The Life of Georgia, was a million dollar salesman and was state salesman of the year several times. He was a member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge 173, was involved in hunting, and won numerous state field trials with the state dog of the year.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Patsy Stewart of Lugoff, Joe B. Stewart Jr. of Darlington, John H. and Marsha Stewart of Anderson, Thomas G. Stewart of Darlington; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Eric Dana of Baltimore, Md., Jean and Woodrow Windham of Columbia; brothers and sister-in-law, James and Sybil Stewart of Hartsville, Wade Jordan of Darlington; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

FRANCES CROUCH
Funeral services for Lulie Frances Harvin Crouch, 95, will be held at 1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home of SC. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Crouch, widow of William Malcolm Crouch, died Tuesday, Oct. 17. She was born in Manning, a daughter of the late Sarah and Joseph Bunyon Harvin. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a resident of the Presbyterian Retirement Community of Florence. Mrs. Crouch was secretary for Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville for 25 years and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hartsville.

She is survived by her son, Dr. William M. Crouch Jr. and wife, Jacqueline (Jackie) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, William Bradley Crouch of Richmond, Va., Leslie Mandrgoc of Ashburn, Va., Cameron Myrick of Topsham, Maine, Jenny Ramirez of Menifee, Calif., Lacey LeVesque of Menifee, Calif.; 13 great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Marie Rouylle.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Harvin, Lionel Harvin and J.B. Harvin.

MASTER SGT. JAMES E. STEEN
LUGOFF - Funeral services for James Edward Steen, 65, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Lugoff First Baptist Church. Burial, with full military honors, followed in the church cemetery with the Rev. Greg Sweet and Chaplain Timothy Williams officiating, directed by Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church Building Fund, 106 Longtown Rd., Lugoff, SC 29078.

Mr. Steen died Sunday, Oct. 15. Born in Darlington County, he was the son of the late Roland O. and Helen James Steen. He was a retired U.S. Marine Vietnam veteran. Mr. Steen was formerly employed with the transport division of the S.C. Department of Education. He was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Sullivan Steen; daughters, Denise (Kenny) Crout of Camden and Teresa (Dennis) Spence of Barnwell; son, the Rev. James 'Jimmy' (Kelley) Steen of Wagener; grandchildren, Heather Crout, Daniel Crout, Lynnsey Spence, Tara Spence, Jordan Steen, Jesse Steen and Jamie Steen; sister, Betty (Joe) Stratton of Hartsville and Barbara (Reed) Price of Bishopville; and brother, Billy Steen.

ELEASE MUNGO
Memorial services for Elease Edwards Mungo, 80, will be held at a later date by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mungo died Monday, Oct. 14, 2006. Born in Horry County, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Lou Williams Edwards. She was a member of Chapel By The Sea in North Myrtle Beach and was retired from B. C. Moore after many years of service.

Surviving are her husband, Boyd Mungo Sr. of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Freda and Michael Morris of Pawley's Island, Susie and Kevin Benton of Hartsville; step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Willis Allen and Sherry Mungo of Denver, N.C., Boyd Randolph and Teresa Mungo Jr. of Denver, N.C.; sisters, Sallie Mae Tyler of Loris, Elnita Shelly of Loris, Lucille Shellnutt of Tabor City, N.C.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Buffkin; daughter, Mary Alice Davis; brother, J. D. Edwards; sisters, Pauline Galloway and Colene Ford.

ALICIA HOWLE
Funeral services for Alicia Michelle Tuten Howle, 30, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 18, 2006, at Souls Harbor Church. The Rev. Wayne Windham will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Howle died Saturday, Oct. 14. Born in Pell City, Ala., she was a daughter of Ira Joseph and Ruth Bullard Tuten. She attended Hartsville High School.

Surviving are her husband, John B. Howle of Hartsville; sons, Tyler Howle, Christian Howle, Cameron 'AJay' Howle, all of Hartsville; father and mother of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lanora Hoffman and Michael Allen of Florence, Stephanie and Dennis Guinn of Cheraw; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Linda Hoffman of Hartsville; special friend, April Smith of Hartsville; nieces and nephews, Jessica Sims, B. J. Sims, Ashlyn Allen, Landon Allen, Tracy Gainey, Chad Gainey and Paul Bailey Jr.

IVY TURNAGE
Graveside services for Ivy Umbers Turnage, 77, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at Magnolia cemetery. Fr. Michael Ridgill officiated, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Turnage, widow of Louis W. Turnage, died Thursday, Oct. 12. Born in New York City, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Frances Mango Umbers. In her youth she was a professional opera singer in New York City. She graduated from Coker College with a degree in music, and from Francis Marion College with a master's degree in special education. She was retired from the Darlington County School System as a special education teacher, and was a volunteer with the Special Olympics, an organization close to her.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Jerry Leese of Columbia; sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Louis W. Turnage Jr. of Gaffney, Michael and Tonya Turnage of Guyton, Ga., David Turnage of Hartsville; sisters, Jeanette Shipley of Wilmington, Del., Priscilla Haflich of Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren.

DOROTHY GAINEY
Memorial services for Dorothy Gainey, 59, were held Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Clyde Church of God, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gainey, who died Friday, Oct. 6, was born in Chesterfield, the daughter of the late Richard and Elaine Bowers Poston.

Surviving are her husband Jimmy Gainey of Hartsville; daughters, Tammy Gastright of Columbia, Linda Johnson of Hartsville; sons, Harold Richardson of Emporia, Va., Franklin Gainey of Lugoff, James Gainey of Hartsville; brothers, Alan Poston of Cheraw, Steve Poston of McBee; sister, Jenny Linn of Cheraw; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special pet parrot 'Sam'.

PATTIE COOKE
Funeral services for Patricia Annick 'Pattie' Cooke, 43, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Dalton Ward officiating with burial in Magnolia cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pets Incorporated, Project Pet, 315 Bent Pine Dr., Columbia, SC 29212.

Ms. Cooke died Friday, Oct. 13. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was a daughter of Philip Cooke and Ruth Byrd Galloway. She was a loving daughter who loved music and animals.

Surviving are her mother and step-father, Ruth Byrd and Furman Galloway of Columbia; father of Farrington, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Scott Padgett of Charlotte, N.C.; fiance', Alan Antonucci of Columbia; godmother, Annick McCamley of Gloucester, Va.; beloved dog, Lilly.

LOIS G. WOODS
Funeral services for Lois Gooden Woods, 76, were held on Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Spring Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Amerson will officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Ridge Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Woods, who died Oct. 14, was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Jim and Louise Poston Gooden. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church and retired from Hartsville Mfg. Co.

Surviving are a son, Luther Gainey of Georgetown; a daughter, Carolyn Perdue of Georgetown; sister, Edith Johnson of Hartsville; grandchildren, Timothy D. Gainey of Greenville, Tenn., Sherri Abernathy of Patrick; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Otis Woods and Buddy Odom.
