WEST COLUMBIA:Funeral service for Mary Dennis Boozer, 96, were held at 11am Monday, May 18, 2009, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, officiated by her grandson, Mr. Greg P. Davis. Interment did follow at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Prosperity, SC. Serving as pallbearers were her grandchildren. The family did receive friends from 10 until 11 am prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, National Office, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
Mrs. Boozer, widow of Brabham Ottis Boozer, died Thursday, May 14, 2009. Born in Newberry County, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Carl Dennis and Thompsie Bedenbaugh Dennis. She was a member of Dunn’s Chapel, the Young at Heart Club and Lennie Senn’s Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Gloria Boozer Davis; son and daughter-in-law, David Y. and Brenda Boozer; nine grandchildren, Greg Davis (Barbara), Gordon Davis, Doug Davis (Donna), John David Boozer (Holly), Clayton Boozer, Tami Boozer Brown; three step grandchildren, Mike and Martha Rogers, Jon and Julianne Rogers, Jennifer and Matt Stines; thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Mrs. Boozer was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Davis and three brothers, Robert Dennis, James Dennis and Francis Dennis.

Isaiah Russell Ray Padgett

Isaiah Russell Ray Padgett, 7 months old, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
Isaiah was born September 29, 2008 in Newberry, a son of Jessica Kidd Hart and Ronald Padgett, Jr.
In addition to his parents of Newberry, he is survived by his sisters, Amber Benge and Quintessa Padgett, his maternal grandparents, Lisa and Richard Moore of Newberry; paternal grandparents, Martha Prickett and Ronald Padgett, Sr. both of Opelika, Alabama; maternal great grandparents, Sara Murphy of Iva and Pete Looper of Piedmont; godmother, Carrie Hlasney of Newberry; aunts, Michelle Dycus of Newberry, Pam Looper of Fountain Inn, and Debbie Jennings of Piedmont; uncles, Russell Looper of Iva and Billy Kidd of Anderson; a great aunt, Joyce Hlasney of Newberry and a number of cousins.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday in Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Mark Bredholt.

Barbara Charlyn "Lyn" Altman Thomas

Barbara Charlyn “Lyn” Altman Thomas, 59, of 301 Tattler’s Trail, Irmo, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Lexington Medical Center.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Sumter, SC, a daughter of S. Charlie Altman and the late Barbara Jean “B.J.” Mims Altman. She was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Limestone College, a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church and was a teacher at Dutch Fork High School.
She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Hubert Daniel “Danny” Thomas of Irmo; three children, Barbara Danielle “Babs” Thomas of Beaufort, Jacquelyn Elizabeth “Bett” Thomas of Irmo and Hubert Daniel “Bert” Thomas, Jr. of Irmo; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ellen A. Kennedy of St. Petersburg, Florida and Jean A. and Mike McDoniels of Ocala, Florida; and five grandchildren, Davey, Kaitlyn, Bryce, Faith and Ben.
Funeral services were conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Gilliam, Benji Sanders, Randy Senn, Mike Hamilton, Jimmy Inabinet, Rudy Tarver, Liz Miller, Cathy Costa, Jeff and Kathy Lee, Esse Ford, Linda and Dick Goodenough, John and Pam Drafts and Randy Stone in memoriam.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, % Helen Beebe, 181 Trailers Trail, Leesville, SC 29070.

Walker Graham Smith, Sr.
June 28, 2009

Mr. Walker Graham Smith, Sr., 87, of 1432 Belleville Road, St. Matthews, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at the Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Organeburg, with the Rev. Larry Williams, Pastor of Cameron Baptist Church, officiating.
Active pallbearers were Jack Backmon, Heyward Goff, Robert Peele, Kenny Shepherd, Kenny Swartz and Steve Williams. Honorary pallbearers were all of Walker's deer hunters.
Mr. Smith was born July 25, 1921, in Cameron, a son of the late Walter Wellington Smith and Devie S. Smith. He was the widower of Sadie Thomas Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of the Cameron Baptist Church. He was engaged in farming for most of his life. His hobbies were coon hunting and deer hunting.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggie S. (Billye) West of Newberry; a son, Walker G. (Bernadene) Smith, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Misty M. West, Brandy B. West, Tiffany F. West, Billy L. (Debra) West II, Sabin S. (Christy) West, all of Newberry, Samuel G (Malissa) Smith, Jason P. (Katherine) Smith and Stella S. (David) Mitchell, all of St. Matthews; 12 great-grandchildren, Jordan-Holt (Phillip) Bunch of Clinton, TN, Bret West, Josie West, Zayne West, Andrew West and Olivia West, all of Newberry; Samuel G. Smith Jr., Jackson Smith, Ryan Smith, Ashlyn Smith, Graham Smith and Iris Mitchell, all of St. Matthews; half sister, Sallie I. Watkins, of Orangeburg; and a brother-in-law, Claude Taylor of Jacksonville, Fl.
Friends did call the residence of Walker and Bernadene Smith Jr., 1404 Belleville Road, St. Matthews and Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lalhage Fulmer Eargle
June 19, 2009

Lalhage Fulmer Eargle, 89, formerly of 1264 Kinard St., Newberry, widow of C. Herman Eargle, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at White Oak Manor.
She was born on January 30, 1920 in Prosperity, a daughter of the late J. Burley and Viola Mills Fulmer. She was a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church. She was a former employee of the Kendall Company, Mollohon Plant and retired from the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home where she worked in the kitchen and dietary department. Mrs. Eargle was very active with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at the Waldrop Center.
She is survived by her son, Denny H. Eargle of Newberry; a sister, Eunice F. Cole of Summerville; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Bruce F. Eargle; sisters, Reba F. Amick, Ruth Fulmer, Clara F. Purdy, and Annielee F. Shealy; and brothers, Virgil B. Fulmer, Furman E. Fulmer, and H. Bernard Fulmer.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Wertz. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family did receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Summer Memorial Lutheran Church, 1609 Milligan St., Newberry, SC 29108.
Pallbearers were Terry Morris, James Fulmer, Larry Cromer, Robert Alexander Purdy, Jr., John William Fulmer, James Taylor, Phillip Sligh, Jerry Summers, Vernon Hawkins, and Clyde Berry.
Honorary pallbearers were her caregivers, Veronica Singleton, Doris Hernandez, Vada Suber, Tammy Mayer, and Alex Boyd, all with Angel Care.

Annie Crouch Werts

Annie Crouch Werts, 94, of 210 Thomas Werts Lane, Silvertreet, widow of Thomas F. Werts, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at her residence.
She was born in Dyson, SC, a daughter of the late Welton B. and Maude Hyman Crouch. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Thomas M. Werts of Silverstreet; 2 grandchildren, Tommie Ann Pitts Coleman of Johnston and Daryl Pitts of Saluda; and a step-grandson, Mike Williams; 3 great-grandchildren, Justin Clark Pitts, Tara Frances Caldwell, Lacey Bell Caldwell; a great great granddaughter, Rose Madison Duhammel; and 2 sons-in-law, Madison T. Pitts, Jr. of Silverstreet and Raymond O. Williams of Newberry. She was predeceased by 2 daughters, Mary W. Pitts and Linda W Williams and a grandson, Durwin Pitts.
The family was at the residence 210 Thomas Werts Lane and did receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1167 Trinity Church Road Newberry, S.C. 29108.
Active pallbearers were Bobby Crouch, Bill Weeks, Billy Ringer, Hal Bowles, Justin Pitts, Mat Coleman, Mike Williams, and Pete Swaney.

Myrtle Marr Bates, 77, widow of Marcus E. Bates, Jr, of Prosperity died Monday, June, 15, 2009.
She was the daughter of the late W. J. and Rosa Stoltz Marr. She was of the Lutheran faith.
Mrs. Bates is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl B. and Lee Reynolds of Gaffney; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith E. Bates of Columbia, Jeff W. and Jenny Bates of Prosperity, and Phillip and Devlyn Bates of McKinney, TX; and a brother, Fred Marr of Spartanburg.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Friday in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

June 12, 2009

Dennis H. Summer, 51, of 1217 Long Sumpit Road, Chappells, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood.
Mr. Summer was born on March 18, 1958 in Greenwood, a son of Sara Lancaster Summer and the late Brunner E. Summer. He was a retired employee of CSX and a member of Crossroad Baptist Church.
He is survived by his mother of Chappells; two children, Kayla Summer of Greenwood and Daniel Summer of Chappells and a brother, Eddie Summer of Chappells.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Crossroads Baptist Church by Rev. Wayne Parker. Interment was in the church cemetery.
The family was at the residence, 1217 Long Sumpit Road, Chappells.
