Dorothy Ivey Way

Mrs. Dorothy Ivey Thomas Way, 88, of Newberry, SC died September 3, 2009 at White Oak Manor, Newberry. She is survived by her husband George D. Way.
Mrs. Way was born in Augusta, GA. She was the daughter of the late Wyke Cleveland Ivey, Sr. and the Dorothy Winburn Ivey. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Newberry.
Other survivors include her three children, Arthur Thomas III, Marshall Thomas, and Cherry Seraphin of Atlanta; her four grandchildren, Dylan Thomas, Marshall Thomas, Ashlyn Seraphin, and Courtney Seraphin also of Atlanta; her brother, Charles Ivey of Augusta; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at Westover Cemetery in Augusta, GA on Tuesday, September 8 at 1:00 PM.

Pauline Jones Hall
October 30, 2009

Pauline Jones Hall, 77, of 2797 S C Highway 34 & 121, Silverstreet, widow of Leonard C. Hall, died October 30, 2009 at her residence.
Mrs. Hall was born on February 4, 1932 in Saluda County, a daughter of the late Roy and Lillian Parrish Jones.
She was a member of Epting Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from Senn Freight Lines where she served as a secretary for many years. Mrs. Hall loved sewing, gardening, and cooking for her family and friends.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Randy Crews, and Joyce Hall and Lynda Ruff all of Newberry; her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Donna Hall of Newberry; grandchildren, Randy C. (Debbie) Crews, Jr., Tammy Lynn (Steve) Pilgrim, William L. (Shannon) Crews, Bryan (Jeanna) Hall, Andrea (Myron) Cantrell, and Jennifer (Ken) Lindler; great-grandchildren, Dakota Pilgrim, Cody Pilgrim, Nicholas Crews, Joshua Crews, Hayden Hall, Hunter Hall, Maddie Crews; Blake Cantrell and Kendell Cantrell, Ellie Lindler, sisters, Edelphia Rushton and Dorothy Crouch, both of Saluda; brother Clarence (LaCoie) Jones of Saluda; a sister-in-law, Ida Lou Jones of Saluda; and two beloved cats, Callie and Tom. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Hall and brothers, Albert Jones and Odell Jones.
Funeral services were conducted at Epting Memorial United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 2, 2009 by Rev. David Inman, Rev. Robert Branch, and Rev. Eric Fink. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Epting United Methodist Church, 1401 Milligan St., Newberry, SC 29108; or to Hospice Care of South Carolina, PO Box 37, Prosperity, SC 29127.
Pallbearers were Randy Crews, Jr., Bryan Hall, Morris Jones, Dudley Rushton, Ronnie Rushton, Myron Cantrell, Scott Legan, and Mickey Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were Henry Senn, Grady Senn, Danny Senn, Wayne Cassady, Diane Merchant, Joyce Kesler, Harriett Kesler, Dr. Tom Bradberry, Wanda Richardson, and the staff of Hospice Care of South Carolina.
The family wishes to send a special heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the care givers of Hospice of South Carolina, especially Cyndi, Lynn, Shannon, & Latonya.

Jean Jennings Eargle Logan

Jean Jennings Eargle Logan, 59, of 98 Ralph Williams Road, Prosperity died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 9, 1950 in Orangeburg a daughter of Guy Hamilton Eargle, Sr. and the late Jean Jennings Eargle. She was a lady of many talents who was particularly proud of her nursing career. Jean loved her family, especially her grandson Christopher.
Surviving in addition to her father Guy of Newberry are a daughter, Kristen DeWine of Newberry and fiancé, Charles McCormick; a son, Ryan Grayson Finney of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Guy Hamilton Eargle, Jr. and Richard Henry Eargle both of Atlanta, GA; her grandson Christopher Lee DeWine of Prosperity; a niece and her husband, Shannon and Ryan Lindsay of Newberry; a great niece, Grace Lindsay of Newberry and a supportive caregiver, Danny DeWine of
Prosperity.
She was predeceased by her mother Jean, brother William Grayson Eargle and grandmother Wilma O. Jennings.
Private family services were held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society of South Carolina, 2711 Middleburg Dr., Suite 105, Columbia, SC 29204.

Larry E. Goforth
October 22, 2009

Larry E. Goforth, 61, of 2032 Montgomery St., Newberry, died Friday, October 22, 2009 at Palmetto Health Richland.
Mr. Goforth was born on July 7, 1948 in Newberry to the late George E. Goforth and Mildred Counts Goforth Harmon. He was the former movie programmer at the Hub Theatre.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gresham Goforth; daughters, Pacha Elaine Goforth and spouse, Donald Cockrell of Newberry, and Krystal Goforth Durham and spouse, Jay of Jacksonville, NC; son, Elbert Wesley Goforth of Newberry; 1 sister; 3 brothers; and 8 grandchildren.
Funeral services were private.
Memorials may be made to the Larry Goforth Fund, 1704 College St., Newberry, SC 29108.

Dr. Denny Herman Eargle
October 19, 2009

Dr. Denny Herman Eargle, 58, a resident of 1264 Kinard St., Newberry, SC and 489 Blumont Rd., Mt. Airy, NC died Monday, October 19, 2009 at his Newberry residence.
He was born on December 3, 1951 in Newberry, a son of the late C. Herman and Lalhage Fulmer Eargle. A Newberry native, Mr. Eargle relocated following completion of his pharmacy internship to Mt. Airy, where he resided until his return to Newberry in 2003 to provide care for his mother after her health had declined.
A graduate of Newberry High School, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina, College of Pharmacy, after which he completed his internship in S.C. He further earned a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina. He was a member of the American Pharmacist Association; The Rhi Society, Pharmaceutical Honor Society; the North Carolina Real Estate Commission, Chapter 93A (Real Estate Brokers) and received a Code of Professional Ethics certificate from the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association. He served as a licensed pharmacist for Kerr Pharmacy in Mt. Airy and BI-LO Pharmacy in Laurens, SC and was also a licensed pharmacist in Virginia. He was previously employed by Eckerd and Rite Aid in Mt. Airy.
He was a member of both the Newberry and Mt. Airy Lions Clubs and was honored with the 2002 Lion of the Year award by the Mt. Airy Lions Club; Service Award from the Mt. Airy Lions Club in honor of his faithful, devoted valuable service in 1998; the Presidents Appreciation Award in Mt. Airy in 1993; and the Extra Mile Award from Surry Medical Ministries Clinic.
He was a faithful member of the St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Mt. Airy and after his return to Newberry, has been attending his home church, Summer Memorial Lutheran Church.
He is survived by aunts, Linnie Belle Eargle of Newberry and Eunice F. Cole of Summerville and a number of cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce F. Eargle.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Denny H. Eargle was conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Wertz and Rev. Dale Cline. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Summer Memorial Lutheran Church, 1609 Milligan St., Newberry, SC 29108.
Pallbearers were Bill Lamm, Terry Morris, Alan Shealy, Phillip Sligh, Jerry Summers, Vernon Hawkins, John Paul Whitaker, Randy Berry, and Al Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers were his caregivers, Doris Hernandez, Veda Suber, Tammy Mayer, Alex Boyd, Rachel Etheredge, Sam Glenn, and Veronica Singleton, all of whom have been Denny’s special “angels” with Angel Care of Newberry, Melanie Davis, Heather Thomilson, James Fulmer and John Fulmer.

Hilland T. Reed, Sr.
October 17, 2009

Hilland T. Reed , Sr., 78, of 23174 Highway 121, Newberry, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at the V.A. Hospital in Augusta, GA.
Mr. Reed was born on December 28, 1930 in Whitmire, the son of the late Mable Rector Reed. He was an U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired employee of J. P. Stevens Co. and was a member of College St. Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Francis Teseniar Reed; a son, H. Thomas “Tommy” Reed Jr. of Ninety-Six; and 3 granddaughters, Valerie Wright, Vickie Norman and Nikki Adams; and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ken Ferrell. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Burton, Kelly Teseniar, Jeff Teseniar, Andy Wright, Thomas Norman, Nick Teseniar, Joe Teseniar, and Keith Swancey.
The family suggests memorials be made to the College St. Baptist Church, 3240 College St. Newberry, SC 29108.

Elizabeth "Liza" Johnson

Elizabeth “Liza” Ives Johnson, 20, of 6218 Mt. Bethel Garmany Rd., Newberry, died Monday, October 12, 2009.
She was born on July 2, 1989 in Lexington County. Currently she was a junior at the College of Charleston and was a 2006 graduate of Mid Carolina High School where she participated in many activities and clubs. She was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church.
Liza was a compassionate and loving young woman who enjoyed volunteering with the Newberry County Animal Shelter.
She is survived by her parents Rhonda Truesdale and Jamie E. Johnson of Newberry; two brothers, Tyler Johnson and Sam Johnson both of Newberry; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Truesdale, Sr. of Winnsboro; paternal grandmother, Lizzie Mae Johnson of Salley; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Marion Willard Johnson, Sr.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Mitchell Van Metre and Rev. Terry Amick.
The family was at the residence, 6218 Mt. Bethel Garmany Rd. and did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.
Pallbearers were Joshua Meetze, Shane Snyder, Ryan Hawkins, Harris Pantlik, Grant Cutler, John Pennell, Michael Carey, and Al Rush.
Honorary pallbearers were Melanie Howe, Lauren Peterson, Amelia (Mimi) Watson, Chelsea Drecher, Katie Chester, Mary Dallas Erwin, Hannah Warth, Vivian Sox, Danielle Brandon and all her CofC family and former MCHS classmates.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Newberry County Animal Shelter, 11494 Hwy 34, Newberry, SC 29108.

Fred Richard Rodelsperger
October 6, 2009

Fred Richard Rodelsperger, 82, of 1710 Hutto Ave, Newberry, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Rodelsperger was born on February 18, 1927 in Newberry, a son of the late Fred P. and Lillie Kinard Rodelsperger. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
He served as a saw mill superintendent for 32 years and retired from International Paper. He loved flying, the Newberry Airport, Clemson football, camping, and he was an avid NASCAR fan. His greatest love was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth “Lib” Dickert Rodelsperger; daughters and sons-in-law, Marie R. and George Whatley of Newberry and Marlene R. and Terry Britt of Little Mountain; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie P. and Jean Rodelsperger of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren and their spouses, Stuart and Hope Britt, Blake and Mary Jane Britt, David Leslie, and Mary Ashley Martin; and a great-grandson, Cannon Britt. He was predeceased by a grandson, Stuart Leslie, and a brother, George Edward Rodelsperger.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 4:00 P.M. Thursday at Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Caldwell Day.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Tri County, 13796 C.R. Koon Highway, Newberry, SC 29108; Newberry County Memorial Hospital Foundation, PO Box 497, Newberry, SC 29108; or to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1515 Boundary St., Newberry, SC 29108.
Pallbearers were Blake Britt, Stuart Britt, David Leslie, George Whatley, Terry Britt, and Edward Rodelsperger.
