James Robertson

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Mr. James Woodward Robertson, 83, of Columbia, will be held at two o’clock, Sunday, October 31, 2004 in Eau Claire Presbyterian Church with The Reverend J. Paul Poynor officiating. Interment will follow in Union Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Winnsboro, SC. The family will receive friends from four until five o’clock Saturday afternoon at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Memorial gifts may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, 1400 Pickens Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

Mr. Robertson died Wednesday, October 27, 2004. Born in Winnsboro, he was the son of the late James Elliott Robertson and Frances Rutland Robertson. Mr. Robertson proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII where he was part of the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star and later served in the Army Reserve. After the war, he had a career in automobile sales and management. Mr. Robertson was a longtime member and Elder at Eau Claire Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his daughters; Rebekah R. Rehm and her husband, Phillip of Hendersonville, NC, Barbara R. Gibson and husband, Dan of Macon, GA and four grandsons and two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Jack Robertson and Kitt Robertson of Winnsboro and his sister, Frances R. Rudisill of Columbia. Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Grace Lemmon Robertson.

Jeanette Porter

GEORGETOWN — Jeanette M. Porter, 59, died October 26, 2004. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Graham Funeral Home is in charge. She was born in Roanoke, Va., to Robert Loan and Helen Loan Montoya. Surviving: children, Timothy Shulkcum, Marie Carter; grandchild, Ashley Carter; siblings, John Jones, Floyd and Linda Loan, Dennis Lemon, William Ward, Elizabeth Montoya.

Hanna Mixson

ALLENDALE — Services for Hannah Moore Mixson, widow of M.C. Mixson, 11 a.m. Saturday at Union UM Church; burial: Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery. Cave Funeral Service is in charge. Born to Lizzie Cohen Mixson and Harry Moore, she died Oct. 21, 2004. Surviving: children, Mary Butler, Florie Gadson, Robert, Frank Moore, Sammie, Mack Mixson; 21 grands; 25 great-grands; 1 great-great-grand.

Willie Matuse

HARTSVILLE — Services for Willie James Matuse, 72, widower of Roxie Matuse, are 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 5-7 tonight) at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home; burial: Savannah Advent Christian Church. Born in Lee Co. to Payton and Martha Matuse, he died Oct. 27, 2004. Surviving: daughters, Debra Byrd, Mickie Nymberg; siblings, Annie Farmer, Pee Wee Matuse; 5 grands; 8 great-grandchildren.

David Frisch

COLUMBIA — A memorial service for David Theodore Frisch will be held on Sunday October 31, 2004 at 3:00 PM at the home of his uncle at 217 Bostwick Ridge, Columbia, SC. David was born on October 12, 1967 in Charlotte, NC where he spent his early life but moved to Columbia in 1981 and graduated from Spring Valley High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy A. Frisch of Columbia, his father, Thomas R. Frisch of Charlotte, his bother and sister-in-law, Robert A. and Suzanne Frisch of Denver, Colorado, along with an uncle and aunt and five cousins of Columbia. He died in Edmond, Oklahoma on October 27, 2004 where he had been visiting friends.

James Harkey

FORT MILL — Services for James William “Bill” Harkey, 92, 11 a.m. Saturday (10 a.m. visitation) at Wolfe Funeral Home; burial: Unity Cemetery. Born in Fort Mill to Harry and Eva Parks Harkey, he died Oct. 27, 2004. He was a WWII Army veteran, American Legion member, retired from the U.S. Postal Service and memer of First Baptist Church. Surviving: brother, Paul; sons, Jimmy, Joe; grandsons, Brad, Scott.

Thelma Hicks

IRMO — Services for Thelma Folk Hicks, 81, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Burial to follow in church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2004 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may be made to Shady Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Hicks widow of Colie E. Hicks died Wednesday, October 27, 2004. Born in Irmo, she was the daughter of the late David and Mattie Rister Folk. She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughters; Margaret F. Free of Irmo, Virginia F. Duncan of Batesburg-Leesville; brothers, James F. and Lonnie D. Hicks of Irmo; brother, Charlie D. Folk of Irmo; sister, Julia M. Springfield of Greensboro, SC; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Marcia Hijaab

SALUDA — Marcia Edwards Hijaab, 37, of Doha, Qatar, died Thursday, October 21, 2004, at Al Amal Hospital in Doha, Qatar.

Born in Chesapeake, VA, she is the daughter of William W. and Marian Elizabeth Morgan Edwards. She was the wife of Raed M. Hijaab. Mrs. Hijaab graduated from the University of Washington . She then went on to earn her Master’s Degree in English from the School of International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont. She was a Director for Qatar Education Foundation in Qatar.

Surviving is her husband, Raed M. Hijaab, a son, Khaled Hijaab, and a daughter, Alia Hijaab of the home, father, William W. Edwards Jr. of Richmond, VA, mother, Marian Elizabeth Morgan Edwards of Richmond, VA and a brother Wes Edwards of Richmond, VA.

Funeral services will be 2 PM, Sunday, October 31, 2004, at Ramey Funeral Home with the Rev. Nels Ledwell officiating. Interment will follow at Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2PM prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Virginia Brain Tumor Research Fund, Medical College of Virginia Foundation, P.O. Box 980234, Richmond, VA 23298.

Mack Johnson

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Services with burial for Mack Bill Johnson, 69, 2 p.m. today (1 p.m. viewing) at Langrum Branch Baptist Church, directed by Wright Funeral Home, all in York, S.C. The family is receiving at 800 S. Congress St., York. Born in York to Sarah Williams Watson and Booker T. Johnson, and raised by his grandmother, Florence Johnson, he died Oct. 22, 2004. Surviving: mother; six sisters, three brothers.

Brenda Jones

ROCK HILL — Services for Brenda Rebecca Jones, 60, will be 2 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel; burial: Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Born in York Co. to Otis and Annie Steen Jones, she died October 27, 2004. She was a charter member of Eastview Baptist Church. Surviving: mother; brothers, Grady, Ernest and Holmes Jones; sister, Betty Lou Sigmon.

Pauline Lee

COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Ms. Pauline “Sally” Lee will be held at 3 p.m. today in Lincoln Cemetery, Farrow Road. Viewing will be held today at Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Surviving are her sisters, Elizabeth Morris, Hazel Chestnut, and Leola Friday.

Helen Owen

YORK — Services with burial for Helen Jackson Owen, 78, widow of John Owen, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church with visitation following. Bratton Funeral Home is in charge. Born in York Co. to William and Jennie Hughes Jackson, she died Oct. 28, 2004. Surviving are children, John, Jimmy, Bill Owen, Susan Sigmon; siblings, Jim Jackson, Florence Workman; grandchildren.

Maree Butler

DUE WEST — Services for Maree Lindler Butler will be conducted at 2:30 PM Tuesday in the McSwain-Evans Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:30 – 2:30 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Donalds Baptist Church, Donalds, SC or to the Cancer Society. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, November 7, 2004 in the Horton Lounge at Due West Retirement Center, Due West, SC.

Mrs. Butler, 80, widow of Archie Jamison Butler, died October 29, 2004, in Due West. Born in Peak, SC, she was the daughter of the late Olin O. and Jimmie Livingston Lindler. She was a member of Donalds Baptist Church. She lived in Abbeville, SC for a major portion of her adult life, where she owned and operated a hair salon. Upon her husband’s retirement, they moved to Merritt Island, FL, until his death in 1991. She then moved to Cayce. SC, and from there to the Due West Retirement Center.

She is survived by a daughter, Frankie Butler McElrath of Cayce; 2 sons, Archie O. Butler, of Spartanburg, and Grady P. Butler of Abbeville; a sister, Elizabeth L. Gossett of Belton ; 5 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Richard Barnett

YORK — Services for Richard Hyman Barnett, 85, first American soldier to enter China through Burma, son of Walter and Annie Davis Barnett, Wright Funeral Home. Burial was in Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery. He died Oct. 28, 2004. Surviving: partner, Margaret Tolbert; daughter, Virgie Currence; stepchildren, Mary Peay, Jean, William, Allen Tolbert, Patricia Dixon; grand, Santausha Tyson; great-grandchildren.

Alice Beaman

CLINTON — Services for Alice Beaman, 66, retired from Torrington Bearing Co., member of Calvary Baptist Church, are 11 a.m. Monday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at Gray Funeral Home; burial: Pinelawn Memory Gardens. Born in Clinton to Robert and Myrtle Hedgepath Whitsel, she died October 29, 2004. Surviving: husband, Tommy; son, Brian; brother, Darrell Whitsel; grandchildren, Casey, Justin.

Janie Bickley

CHAPIN — Graveside services for Janie Blondell Bickley, 69, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2004 at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2004 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may be made to: The Shriner's Children’s Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.

Mrs. Bickley died Thursday, October 28, 2004. Born in Gilbert, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd V. and Rosa Lee Hallman. She was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, Little Mtn. Eastern Star, Rebecca Circle at Mt. Horeb, Whiterock Ladies Auxillery and TOPS SC #118. She was the owner and operator of Blonde’s Florist in Chapin.

She is survived by her daughters, Janie Bickley Aslund of Lexington and Melony Bickley Bosdell of VA.; son, Joe Bickley of Houston, TX; sister, Shelby Long of Leesville; brother, Lloyd Hallman of Gilbert and five grandchildren.

Jessie Bingham Jr.

HARTSVILLE — Entombment for Jessie J. Bingham, Jr., age 80, who died Oct. 28 will be held in Darlington Memory Gardens and funeral services will be held at a later date directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Bingham was born in Delano, Tenn. a son of the late Rev. Jessie J. Bingham, Sr. & Clara McFadden Bingham, He was retired from the U.S. Army and the Post Office.

Surviving are his wife: Dorothy Williams Bingham, Valdosta, Ga.; son: Jessie J. Bingham, III, Jupiter, Fla.; daughter: Dorothy Sue Winsted, Marathon, Fla.; sister: Sue Hickey, Hartsville; brother: Davis Blair Bingham, Chapel Hill, N.C.

Wilma Brown

GREENWOOD — Services for Wilma Wilson Brown, 84, widow of Ellis Brown, 11 a.m. Monday at Mathews UMC; burial: Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Blyth Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Greenwood to N.E. and Laura Culbreth Wilson, she died Oct. 30, 2004. Surviving: children, Rebecca Brown, Willie Hamby, Robert Allen, Jeannie Wells; brothers, Ray, Roy Wilson; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.
