BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Services for Joseph T. Newton, 59, will be 1 p.m. today at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, Walterboro, S.C., with burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Miley, S.C. Born in Brooklyn to Ruth Newton, he died December 29, 2004. Surviving are his mother; daughter, Desni Zander; twin brother, James Newton; sister, Shirley Whitaker.

Tony Melton

ST. MATTHEWS — Funeral Service for Tony Edward Melton will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg. Visitation--7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. He died Thursday.

JOHNSONVILLE — Services with burial for Thelma Springs Prosser, 76, homemaker, will be 3 p.m. today at Midway Baptist Church. Morris Funeral Home, Hemingway, is in charge. Born in Hemingway to Charlie and Rosa Altman Springs, she died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving: husband, H.M. Prosser; children, Johnny Prosser, Cheryl Blanton; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister.

MCCOLL — A graveside service for Ruth Lewellen Ransom, 65, widow of Carl Ransom, is 2 p.m. Sunday in Rogers Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Rogers Funeral Home. Born in Marlboro Co. to Thomas and Gladys Lewellen, she died January 7, 2005. She had worked with Covington Fabrics. Surviving: sons, Robert and Roger Ransom; daughter, Carla Cloer; sister, Peggy McLain; three grandchildren.

Donna Reyna

ROCK HILL — A memorial service for Donna Collins Reyna, 64, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. Born in Chester Co. to Robert Collins and Jesse Mae Cooper, she died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving: children, Marcus, Patrick, Warren Sanders, Lucinda Smith; siblings, William, Thomas Collins, Jean Morton, Virgie Sullivan, Louise Hinson; 19 grands; 10 great-grands; stepsons, Donald, Ronald Sanders.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Services with burial for Samuel “Jinks” Darby Jr., 61, are 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cope, S.C. Glover’s Funeral Home, Orangeburg, S.C., is in charge. Born in Cope to Sam Sr. and Rebecca Darby, he died Dec. 28, 2004. Surviving: wife, Katie Darby; children, Tyrone, Samuel III, Latwonya Darby, Marvin, Kevin Phelps; four brothers; four sisters; six grandchildren; other relatives.

ROCK HILL — Services for James Franklin Stewart, 81, WWII Navy veteran, will be 10 a.m. Monday (visitation 3-5 p.m. Sunday) at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, burial in Grandview Memorial Park-Cherry Road. Born in York to Charles and Ida Love Stewart, he died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving: wife, Oris Harrill Stewart; children, James Jr. and Nancy Stewart; brothers, Roddey and Fred Stewart; three grandchildren.

Annie Winchester

LANCASTER — Services for Annie Lee Alexander Winchester, 81, widow of Joseph Winchester, are 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Presbyterian Church, with burial in Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home. Born to Cornelius and Sadie McManus Alexander, she died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving: sons, Buck and Jack Winchester; brother, Bill Alexander; four grandchildren.

Born in Colleton Co. to David and Laura Wright, she died Jan. 5, 2005. Surviving: grandchildren, Sierra, Brian, Raheem; siblings, Jennie Sethna, Nadine, Evelyn, Willie Wright, Maybelle Harris, Marilyn Mitchell, Yassimine, Cornelius, Joel, Robert, Williams, Kenneth Hodges.

ORANGEBURG — Funeral Service for Lurline Jumper Walling will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg with Rev. John C. Ropp, Jr. and Rev. Alton Caldwell officiating.

Alma Rickenbaker

CAMERON — A graveside service for Alma Wingard Rickenbaker, 92, widow of Dr. Marshall Rickenbaker, is 11 a.m. today in Cameron Memorial Cemetery. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, Orangeburg, is in charge. Born in Cameron to Frank and Lilla Irick Wingard, she died Jan. 5, 2005. Surviving: grandchildren, Richard and Katie Ferrer; nieces, Janet Arant, Lilla Oliver; two greatnieces; one greatnephew.

Sadie Setzler

NEWBERRY — Sadie Sease Setzler, 94, of 2116 Osborne Ave., Newberry, widow of Ralph Halfacre Setzler, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at her residence.

Mrs. Setzler was born in Newberry County in the St. Philip’s community, a daughter of the late Luther Hampton, Sr. and Bittie Ruff Sease. She was a 1931 graduate of Newberry College. For many years she worked for the Main St. Florist and Jones Florist, and then she retired as a clerk at B.C. Moore’s.

Mrs. Setzler was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the Cromer/Hipp Sunday School Class, and the Miriam Circle of The W.E.L.C.A.

Mrs. Setzler is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Setzler Monroe and Bill Monroe of Spartanburg; one sister, Julia Kate Sease of Newberry; three grandchildren, Billy Monroe of Scotland, AR, Betsy M. Antley of Barnwell; and Mary M. Glenn of Roebuck; six great grandchildren, Trey, Will and Dargan Antley and Zac, Steven, and Savanna Glenn; and three step-grandchildren, Shane, Stevie and Marvin Benton. She was predeceased by two sisters, Fannie Mae Sease and Elizabeth S. Lominick and three brothers, Govan Sease, Luther Sease, and Thomas Sease.

Funeral services for Sadie Sease Setzler will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Steven Counts. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was held Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family will be at the residence, 2116 Osborne Ave.

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Growing in Grace Fund, PO Box 382, Newberry, SC 29108 or to Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 352, Newberry, SC 29108.

Ann Catarino

COLUMBIA — A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Ann Barbara Jaworski Catarino, 85, of Columbia will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, January 10, 2005 in St. John Neumann Catholic Church, with Rev. Frederick F. Masad officiating. Memorials may be made to St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 721 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed. Jan 12, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.

Mrs. Catarino died Friday, January 7, 2005 at Providence Hospital Northeast. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania , she was the widow of Albert Catarino.

She is survived by her children, Michael Catarino and wife, Janet, of Boiling Springs, PA, Al Catarino and wife, Roseanne, of Phoenix, AZ, Roger Catarino and wife, Linnie, of Columbia, SC, and Barbara Catarino of Charlotte, NC; 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Grace Brigman

COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Branson Brigman, 92, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 10, 2005, in the chapel at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Center, 1 Still Hopes Dr., West Columbia, SC, 29169. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services. Dr. Thomas Cuttino, Dr. Johnnie Brigman, Chaplain Wayne Kinyon and Reverend Adrian Despres will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Serenity Gardens. Active Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Memorials may be made to the Residents Assistance Fund at Still Hopes. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Still Hopes and to Tri-County Hospice.

Mrs. Brigman died Friday, January 07, 2005. Born in Asheville, NC, on April 7, 1912, she was a daughter of the late John R. Branson and Roberta Brown Tate, and a loving and faithful wife of 72 years to the late Benjamin Brigman. Grace was a life long member of Oteen Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a past WMU President. She also was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Swannanoa Chapter. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother who will be greatly missed.

Surviving to honor and cherish her memory are her daughters, Betty Ruiz and husband, William, of Columbia, SC, Patricia Emery and husband, Larry R., of Lincolnton, GA; son, Dr. Johnnie L. Brigman and wife, Martha, of Huntsville, AL; brother, Vernon Branson of Asheville, NC; ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Predeceasing her are sister, Lillian Maney and Mildred Reighard.

Pauline Cook

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE — Pauline Cook, 75, of Batesburg-Leesville, died Friday, January 7, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Rose Lawn Cemetery with Rev. David Norman officiating.

Mrs. Cook was born in Batesburg to the late Levie and Minnie Lee Quattlebaum Gantt. She was married to the late Jessie Carl Cook, Jr., she was a homemaker. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Larry Black of Texas ; daughter, Mary Cook of Leesville; brothers, C.L. Gantt; Walter Gantt; Caryle Gantt; Callie Gantt, all of Batesburg-Leesville; sister, Myrtle Matthews of Saluda; 8 grandchildren.

Milton Shealy Funeral Home 803-532-6100 is in charge of all arrangements.
