Patrick Etheridge

GRANTVILLE, Ga. — Patrick C. Etheridge, 63, of Grantville, GA, died Saturday, January 8.

Survivors include wife, Hazel Varnadore Etheridge; daughter, Sharon Hall, both of Grantville; son, Paul Etheridge of Columbia, S.C.; his mother, Louise Etheridge of Franklin, GA; brother, Robert Etheridge of Hogansville, GA; and two grandsons.

Funeral services will be conducted at twelve noon, Tuesday, at the Hogansville (GA) Church of Christ.

Memorial contributions may be made to Raintree Village Children’s Home, 3757 Johnston Rd., Valdosta, GA 31601.

Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, Hogansville, GA.

George Davis Sr.

CHESTERFIELD — George Frazier Davis, Sr., age 73, formerly of Darlington, died at his home in Chesterfield County, Friday, January 7, 2005. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, Darlington, with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens with Masonic rites.

Mr. Davis was born in Newbern, Tennessee, son of the late J. Frank and Ora Mae Curtis Davis. He was a retired truck driver with Krueger International for over 20 years and was awarded International Driver of the Year. He was a Mason, Shriner and member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Rosa B. Davis of Chesterfield; two daughters, Linda (Tom) Googe of Denver, Colorado and Debbie (John) Askins of Hartsville; three sons, George F. “Buster” Davis, Jr. of Chesterfield, Rodger Dale Davis of Coward and A. Matthew Davis of Darlington; stepson, R.D. Mumford of Cheraw; and stepdaughter, Joyce Ann (J.B.) Wood of Chesterfield; also, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Kingsley and Virginia Barger, both of Boonesville, Mississippi; five brothers, Junior Davis of Illinois, Johnny Davis, James Davis, Jerry Davis, and Stanley Davis, all of Boonesville, Mississippi.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Shouse Davis; son, Frankie Monroe Davis; granddaughter, Ora Mae Danielle Davis and stepson, Bill Mumford.

The family will receive friends Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Darlington.

Mary Cranshaw

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Mary Dell Stevenson Cranshaw, age 90, of Huntersville, died of cancer Thursday, January 6, 2005 at the Laurels at Highland Creek. She was born December 26, 1914 in Chester County S.C., daughter of the late Robert Alexander Stevenson, Sr. and Julia Dell Clarkson Stevenson. She was a member of the Annuitant Club of Exxon, a homemaker and avid reader.

Memorial services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 9 at Independence Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Marlin officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

Survivors include three sons, B. Donald Cranshaw III of Irmo, S.C., Steve Cranshaw and wife, Jean, of Lexington, S.C. and Robert Joseph Cranshaw and wife, Marcia of Charlotte; two daughters, Nancy Cranshaw Ferrell and husband, Richard, of Huntersville and Dell Cranshaw Simpson and husband, William, of Goose Creek, S.C.; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Bascom D. Cranshaw, Jr. on June 13, 2004 and five brothers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, N.C. 28036 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

SUMTER — Services with burial for Thalia Barkley Zeigler, 92, are 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church. Visitation is 5-7 tonight at 2857 S. Wise Drive. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium is in charge. Born in Sumter Co. to Bruce Barkley and Emmie Barkley Davis, she died Jan. 7, 2005. Surviving: husband, George Zeigler; son, Marion Zeigler; two grandchildren; sister; brother.

Elizabeth Bradford

KINGSTREE — Services for Elizabeth Banks Bradford, 77, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion UMC with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Rites are 6 tonight at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Born in Winnsboro to Ceasar and Susie Gayden Banks, she died Jan. 5, 2005. Surviving are son, Ernest Bradford; daughter, Davida Brown; three grands; two sisters; two brothers; others.

Joyce Ardis

EUTAWVILLE — Services for Joyce P. Ardis, 72, are 11 a.m. Monday at Eutawville UMC with burial at 3 p.m. in Sumter Cemetery, Sumter. Visitation 4-6 tonight at Avinger Funeral Home, Holly Hill. Born in Buffalo, N.Y. to Lyle and Frances Skiver Petteys, she died Jan. 7, 2005. Surviving are husband, Ray Ardis; children, Wende Lodge, James, Chris Baun; stepchildren, Jennie Skelton, Michael Ardis; 10 grandchildren.

Charles Wilson Sr.

UNION — Mr. Charles W. Wilson, Sr. age 81, of 1385 Sardis Rd., Union, husband of Nina Greer Wilson, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Wilson was born in Union on July 31, 1923, a son of the late Calvin Hezekiah Wilson and Pearl Rochester Wilson. He was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church and a member of the Union County Gattleman’s Association and the VFW. Mr. Wilson was a Veteran of W.W. II, having served in the U.S. Amy Air Corps and was retired from the U.S. Army Reserves, Company M. Mr. Wilson was retired from Milliken and Company, Sycamore Plant in Clinton.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Beth Wilson Wells and husband, Donald L. Wells of Union; two sons: Charles W. Wilson, Jr. and wife, Jane Wilson and James G. Wilson, all of Union; a sister: Ruth W. Hart of Newberry; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth Wilson, Charles Wilson, III, Beth P. Lancaster, Sam Phillips, Clint Wells, Paul Wells, Catherine Wilson and Jennie Wilson. Mr. Wilson was pre-deceased by a grandson, Donald L. “Donnie” Wells, III.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday at Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Angelia Price.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Sunday night from 7:00 until 9:00.

The family is at the home, 1385 Sardis Rd., Union.

Memorials may be made to the Perpetual Care Fund, Sardis United Methodist Church, 964 Sardis Rd., Union, S.C. 29379.

Annie Mae Winburn

MAULDIN — Annie Mae Winburn, 89, of 741 East Butler Rd., went home to be with the Lord and Savior Friday, January 7, 2005 from Hillcrest Hospital. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, January 10, 2005 at the Chapel of Cannon Funeral Home Fountain Inn, with the Revs. Kenneth Forrester, Paul Cooper, and Tommy Kay officiating. Burial will follow in Cannon Memorial Park.

Born in Hartsville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Victor Frank Long and the late Mary Mamie King Long. She was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors: 4 daughters, Mildred Dearman, Margaret Nelms, both of Simpsonville, Shelby Chandler of Mauldin, Faye Bramlett of Fountain Inn; 2 sons, Lide M. Winburn, Sr., of Hartsville, SC, Melvin (Dick) Winburn of Waterloo, SC; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Cannon Funeral Home Fountain Inn, and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Rocky Creek Baptist church Building Fund, 1801 Woodruff Rd., Greenville, SC 29607.

Brenda Spires

LEXINGTON — Services for Brenda Whitaker Spires, 54, will be held Monday, January 10, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home with interment to follow in Lexington Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 09, 2005 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Carolina Community Hospice, 1175 Sunset Blvd., W. Cola, SC 29169 or the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Ms. Spires died Friday, January 07, 2005. Born in Lexington, SC, she was the daughter of Stacy Whitaker and the late Annie Sarah Roland Whitaker. She worked with Children’s World Daycare for over 20 years.

Surviving are her 4 children, Tammy Spires of Lexington; Eddie Spires of Sheradon, OR; Stacey (Wayne) Miller of Leesville and Kelly (Kevin) Reed of Lexington; her father, Stacy Whitaker of Lexington; sisters, Gloria Derrick of Ballentine; Kathy McCarthy and Nita Clamp, all of Lexington and 5 grandchildren. Ms. Spires was preceded in death by her sister Evelyn Gable.
