BLACKVILLE — A graveside service for James Walter Mitchell, 67, is 3 p.m. Tuesday in Ghents Branch Cemetery, Denmark. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Dyches Funeral Home, Barnwell. Born in Bamberg Co. to Julian Mitchell and Elizabeth Darnell, he died Jan. 8, 2005. GREENVILLE — Services for Katrina Scott, Chaplin for the State Department of Juvenile Justice, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Allen Temple AME Church with burial in Graceland East. Visitation 6-7 tonight at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary. Born in Greenville to Willie and Azalean Green Scott, she died Jan. 6, 2005. Born in Bald Creek, N.C. to Sam and Byrd Mae Boone Tipton, he died Jan. 8, 2005. Surviving are wife, Joan Gloria Russell Tipton; daughters, Ann Wright, Donna Stock; one brother; four sisters; three grands; two great-grandchildren.

LANGLEY — Services for Mary Rhoden Reames, widow of Jack Reames Sr., will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at Hatcher Funeral Home with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Born in Bath to Gus and Ada Baker Rhoden, she died Jan. 8, 2005. NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Services with burial for Mary Lois Shannon Singleton, 64, widow of Sammie Singleton, are 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, Pinewood, S.C. Job’s Mortuary, Sumter, S.C., is in charge. Born in Sumter Co. to Demert Shannon, she died Jan. 4, 2005. Surviving are children, Robert, Sharon Singleton; siblings, Essix Shannon Sr., Donald Canty Sr., Maude Holland; two grands; others.

Leroy Wilson

FORT MILL — A graveside service for Leroy Ray Wilson, 49, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Unity Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 tonight at Fort Mill Funeral Home. Born in Fort Mill to Leroy and Alice Shelton Wilson, he died Jan. 8, 2005. Surviving are wife, Drema Hensley Wilson ;daughters, Ashley, Peggy, Danielle, Taylor Jelinek, Amanda Wilson; sisters, Violet Freeman, Joyce McBeth, Lisa Wilson; one uncle; nieces; nephews.

Stephen Zagorski

GREENWOOD — Services for Stephen J. Zagorski, 41, will not be held. Harley Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Victor and Ellen McKiernan Zagorski, he died January 8, 2005. Surviving are wife, Veronica Hernandez Zagorski; daughters, Erica, Leah Zagorski; stepson, Edward Zagorski; sisters, Maria Hubbard, Melissa Zagorski, Lee Paoella; brothers, Chris, Victor Zagorski.

Wallace Eubanks

AIKEN — Services for Wallace Arthur Eubanks, 72, U.S. Army veteran, are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lighthouse Baptist Church with burial in Aiken Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Shellhouse Funeral Home. Born in Aiken to Lonnie and Onie Mitchell Eubanks, he died Jan., 2005. Surviving are wife, Marjorie Goodwin Eubanks; children, Connie Waterhouse, Linda Harris, Sanda Smith; 6 grands; 6 siblings.

Edgar Ruff

COLUMBIA — Service for Edgar Wade Ruff, 58, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Ruff died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at the family home. Born in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late Leta Maxine Lushbaugh Ruff and Edgar Elwood Ruff. A graduate of Campbell College, he was employed with Companion Property and Casualty.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Wall Ruff; sons, Chris Ruff and his wife, Sarah, and Jeff Alford; and grandchildren, Ashley Ruff and Ryan Hughes, all of Columbia.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.

Georgia Lloyd

COLUMBIA — Services for Georgia Beane Lloyd, 87, formerly of 106 Timmons Street, will be held Tuesday at 12 o’clock noon at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shandon Baptist Church Music Ministry or Hebron Baptist Church, Dacula, Ga.

Mrs. Lloyd died Sunday, January 09, 2005. Born in Rock Hill, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Miller and Virginia Quattlebaum Miller and the great-granddaughter of General Paul Quattlebaum of the South Carolina Militia who led the defense of the South Carolina State House when Sherman’s troops were attacking during the war between the states.

Mrs. Lloyd was a graduate of Columbia High School and Dickinson’s Business School and attended Berry College, Mount Berry, Georgia, where she was employed until moving to Columbia upon the loss of her husband, John R. Beane. After relocating to Columbia, she was employed by the Department of Education of the University of South Carolina until her resignation due to her marriage to Hallie A. Lloyd of Timmonsville. She returned to Columbia after his death in 1979.

While at Berry College, Mrs. Lloyd was very active in support of East Rome High School where she originated, and for the first five years produced and directed the largest pageant (with a cast of approximately 200) presented in Rome and Floyd County, Ga. Recognition was given to the pageant as the front cover of the “Sunday Magazine” of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution with an accompanying story. The pageant continued yearly for thirty years.

Mrs. Lloyd was a Girl Scout leader, part-time Society Editor for the Rome News-Tribune (Ga.), and was frequently published in the op-ed columns of a number of newspapers in Georgia and South Carolina.

Mrs. Lloyd was a long-time member of Shandon Baptist Church and Sunday School.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Mike Baker, Mark Baker, Edward Baker, Lee Cox and Stuart Rawls and grandson, Brandon Arrieta.

Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Richard (Carol Beane) Sasnett of Columbia; son, John Robert Beane, Jr. of Lawrenceville, Ga.; son-in-law, Dr. Richard Sasnett of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Marilyn H. Beane of Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandchildren, Rich and Peyton Sasnett, Cotesworth Sasnett, Caroline and Brandon Arrieta, all of Columbia, Kristin Ashley Beane and Brandi Irene Beane, both of Lawrenceville, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Joyce Peyton Sasnett, Richard Maxwell Sasnett, Brandon Maxwell Arrieta and Cotesworth Daniel Arrieta; sisters, Mrs. Bruce N. (Virginia) Baker of Columbia and Mrs. S.L. (Betty) Cox of Florence; and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lloyd was preceded in death by a sister, Flemma M. Rawls and a brother, John H. Miller, Jr.

Eloise Sloan

COLUMBIA — Service for Mildred Eloise Sloan, 91, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Union United Methodist Church, Irmo, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church, “To God be the Glory” Fund, P.O. Box 705, Irmo, S.C. 29063. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service in the cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is in charge.

Mrs. Sloan, wife of the late Harry Thomas “Cub” Sloan, died Saturday, January 8, 2005. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd Hedgepath and Lena Brown Hedgepath. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Kings Daughters, Order of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Swing Band.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Mickey S. Berrian and William A. Berrian III of Columbia; sister, Azalee Swilley of Conway; grandchildren, William T. (Todd) Berrian of Columbia and Cub S. Berrian of Florence; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Raymond Dunlap

MCCORMICK — Service and burial for Raymond A. Dunlap, 86, widower of Lillie Blackwell Dunlap, are 11 a.m. today (visitation: 10-11) at Troy Methodist Church where he was a member. Strom Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Oconee to John Dunlap he died Jan. 8, 2005. Surviving: stepsons, Jerry, Stanley Davis, Jimmy McCarthy; sisters, Nell, Winnifred Henderson; 11 stepgrandchildren.

BEECH ISLAND — A graveside service for Frank “Sonny” Phail Jr., 62, transmission mechanic and truck driver, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Edgefield. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Rowland Funeral Home, North Augusta. Born in Augusta to Ellie Phail, he died Jan. 8, 2005. Surviving are sons, Cole III, Daniel, Bland Phail; daughter, Cheryl Robinson; mother; five grandchildren.

McCORMICK — James Melvin Strom, Jr., 45; Robin Bradley Strom, 44; Brittney Ashton Strom, 15 and Bradley James Strom, 11, all of 711 Augusta Street Ext., McCormick, died Friday, January 7, 2005 from injuries received in a plane crash.

Born in Augusta, GA, James was the son of the late James Melvin Strom, Sr. and Bernice White Strom. He attended the University of South Carolina and Lander College. He was employed by the US Postal Service in McCormick and was the owner of Strom Development Company, Birchtree Storage in Greenwood and four car washes. He served on the board of John de la Howe School and was a member of McCormick First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member and a teacher of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class.

James is survived by four sisters, Melva Joiner of Jacksonville, FL, Martha Huey of Seneca, Sudie Stansell of Greenville and Lucy Ruple of West Columbia.

Born in San Bernardino, CA, Robin was a daughter of Nancy Loretta Cheek Bradley and the late Charles Vincent Bradley, Jr. She received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina. She was the PLUS teacher at Ninety Six Elementary School and had been previously named the Greenwood County District 52 Teacher of the Year. She was chairperson of the McCormick County Republican Party and was a former member of the McCormick County Council and former president of the McCormick Jaycees. She was a member of McCormick First Baptist Church, where she taught in the Children’s Sunday School Department and served as Bible drill coach.

Robin is survived by her mother of Bennettsville; two sisters, Tina Bradley Jacobs of Cheraw and Cindy Lea Bradley of McCormick; four brothers, Charles Vincent Bradley, III of Cheraw, Craig Steven Bradley, Sr. and Cory Glen Bradley, both of McColl and Curtis Wayne Bradley of Hartsville; and a special friend, Ruth Bledsoe of Johnston.

Brittney was born in Augusta, GA and was a junior at Ninety Six High School, where she was a member of the FCA, the cross country team, the soccer team and was a cheerleader. She competed nationally in gymnastics and was a member of her church softball team. She was a member of McCormick First Baptist Church, where she was active in all youth programs. She had attended a mission trip last summer with the church to Costa Rica and had plans to become a missionary. She also attended the Wednesday night youth group at Ninety Six First Baptist Church.

Bradley was born in Greenwood and was a sixth grade student at Edgewood Middle School, Ninety Six, where he was a member of the band and the Honors Chorus, performing last week in Washington , DC. He played baseball and football with the Greenwood County Parks & Recreation. He was a member of McCormick First Baptist Church, where he was a member of Children’s Sunday School Class and attended the Wednesday night youth group at Ninety Six First Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCormick First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Lynn and the Rev. John Notter officiating. Burial will be in Overbrook Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Roy Wood, Tim Bledsoe, Hugh Cooper, Wallace Wood, Andy Adams, George Long, Bernie Hamby, Ed Talbert, Aaron Watson, Ben Ferqueron, George Patterson, David Satcher, Hugh Simmons, Ray Frick, Chris Kirkland and Johnnie Bandy.

The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. The bodies will be placed in the church at 12 noon on Tuesday.

The family is at the home.
