John Sullivan

SURFSIDE BEACH — A Celebration of Life Service for John L. “Budge” Sullivan, 81, 3 p.m. Wednesday (visitation 6:30-8:30 tonight): Hartley Funeral Home, Lancaster, burial: Westside City Cemetery. Born in Lancaster Co. to John Sullivan and Zelphor Sullivan Gardner, he died Jan. 9, 2005. Surviving: wife, Lavinia Sullivan; daughters, Sandy Sims, Wanda Sullivan, Johnna Kessler; 2 siblings; 3 grands; 5 great-grandchildren.

Helen Smith

KINARDS — Helen Clary Smith, 102, of 3903 Bush River Road, Kinards, widow of John Earle Smith, Sr., died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at the family home. She was a member of the Bush River Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John Earle and Dannette W. Smith; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, William Bryan and Donna W. Smith; a great-grandson, Drew William Smith. She was predeceased by a daughter, Josephine Smith and a grandson, Steven Earle Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Bush River Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends both there and after the funeral. Memorials may be made to Bush River Baptist Church, 3903 Bush River Road, Kinards, SC 29355 or Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 352, Newberry, SC 29108.

Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College Street, Newberry is assisting the family.

Thelma Price

COLUMBIA — Services for Thelma Clanton Price, 95, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, or American Red Cross, c/o Tsunami Relief Fund, 2751 Bull St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Mrs. Price, widow of Vaneaton Price, died January 10, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Commodore Perry and Sarah Bennett Clanton. She was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church and had retired from the University of South Carolina.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane P. Smith of Columbia; son, Vaneaton “Van” Price of Aiken; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Drayton Smith

BATESBURG — Drayton Smith, 69, of Batesburg, entered into eternal rest Monday, January 10, 2005. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Concord Baptist Church with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Elton Dunbar officiating.

Mr. Smith was born in Batesburg to the late Arthur and Alberta Waters Smith. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He retired from Southern Brick as a truck driver.

Surviving is his wife, Mary Frances Cobbler Smith; sons, A.W. Smith of AL; Ronald Smith of Batesburg; Tommy, Cordell, Kenneth Adams of Batesburg-Leesville; daughters, Debra Hughes of Aiken; Linda B. Smith of Leesville; Elaine Langford of Saluda; brother, P.L. Smith of Leesville; sisters, Magdalene Price of Gilbert; Edna Manchester of Leesville; Rafetta Buzhardt of Batesburg; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by a son, Drayton Clinton Smith; sister, Vernell Carver; granddaughters, Janet Burgess and Angela Adams.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at his residence. Memorial can be made to: Concord Baptist Church, 860 N. Lee Street, Leesville, SC 29070.

Frances Kinard

ORANGEBURG — Services for Frances F. Kinard, 83, widow of Harry Kinard, are 2 p.m. today: First Baptist Church, burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Orangeburg to G.E. and Fannie Carson Fralick, she died Jan. 9, 2005. Surviving: son, H. Wayne; grandchildren, Harry Kinard, Jennifer Snelgrove; siblings, Joann Jones, Margaret, George Fralick Jr.; great-grandson.

James Lockhart

AIKEN — Mr. James Kelly “Jim” Lockhart, 58, died Thursday, January 6, 2005, in Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Mr. Lockhart was born in Newark, Ohio, to the late Eugene M. and Eleanor Jeffers Lockhart. He was a graduate of N. Carolina State University and received his MBA from St. Edwards University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, the U.S. Air Force Reserves from 1980-1990 (F4 Pilot), and piloted commercial flights for Continental Airlines until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, and Palmetto Golf Club.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Wilson Lockhart; a son, Brian Lockhart, Paducah, KY; a daughter, Amy Lockhart Kennedy, Menomonie, WI; five grandchildren, Thomas Evan, Peggy Lynn, Riley Donoven and Elizabeth Anne Kennedy, Allison Marie Lockhart; two sisters, Martha Kehm, St. Petersburg, FL, and Kathleen Lockhart, Lewisville, TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Aiken Heart Society, 1003 Hammond Road, Aiken, SC 29803, or the Red Cross, 267 Laurens Street, Aiken, SC 29801.

The family has asked that friends join them in a celebration of Jim’s life on January 22, 2005, from 2-5 p.m. at his residence, 225 Chardonnay Lane, Aiken.

Dorothy Jones

GREENWOOD — A graveside service for Dorothy Bone Jones, 71, widow of William Jones, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at Blyth Funeral Home. Born in Greenwood County to Jack and Irene Waters Bone, she died Jan. 10, 2005. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Surviving: sons, Sam and Hughey Jones; four grandchildren.

Gertrude Hutson

BISHOPVILLE — Services for Gertrude Hutson, 69, died 1/9, are 2 p.m. Wed. at Wayside Baptist Church with burial in Wayside Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 Tuesday at Norton Funeral Home. Surviving: husband, Sam Hutson; children, Ronnie Hutson, Bishopville, Angelika (Fredrick) Leonard, Cassatt; grandchildren, Jennifer & Leroy Marsh; great-grandchild, Brianna Marsh; preceded in death by son, Tommy; grandchild, Robert Thomas Hutson Jr.

Antwone Johnson

COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. Antwone Ricardo Hall Johnson will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Greater St. Luke Baptist Church with burial in Lincoln Cemetery. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. Surviving are his parents, John and Sandra Johnson; daughter, Kenitra Anderson; brother, Shamus Johnson; sisters, Nakita Johnson and Tamiko Johnson; grandparents.

John Travers Jr.

ORANGEBURG — Services for John Everett “June” Travers Jr., 56, 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive Baptist church; burial: Belleville Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m.-9 tonight at Simmons Funeral Home. Born in Fruitland, Md., to John Sr. and Jane Travers, he died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving: wife, Alma Travers; children, John Travers III, Laura Hartzog; stepchildren, Robert, Cynthia Bovain; grandchildren.

Lewis Todd Jr.

LORIS — Services for Lewis Talmadge “L.T.” Todd Jr., 72, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cane Branch Baptist Church with burial in Twin City Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hardwick Funeral Home. Born in Loris to Lewis Sr. and Frances Edge Todd, he died Jan. 9, 2005. Surviving: wife, Delano Todd; children, Steve Todd, Paula Hardee; stepgrandchildren, Kenneth Jr., Keisha; sisters, Lorraine Hardee, Louise Cox.

Easel Todd

LORIS — Services for Easel Graham Todd, 72, widow of Lucian Todd Sr., are 11 a.m. Wednesday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with burial in Cherry Hill Cemetery. Born in Galivants Ferry to William Sr. and Maude Rabon Graham, she died January 9, 2005. Surviving are son, Lucian Todd Jr.; sisters, Lillie Ray, Ruby Elliott, Lena Hilburn, Virginia Longacre; grandchildren, Ross, Jamie, Trey Todd.

Freddie Rhames

ORANGEBURG — Services for Freddie C. Rhames, 71, are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Viewing is 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today and 8:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at Glover’s Funeral Home. Born to Willie and Mary Rhames, he died Jan. 8, 2005. Surviving are wife, Margaret Rhames; daughter, Pascha Cokely; a brother and a sister; other relatives and friends.

Cecil Price

CAMDEN — Graveside services for Cecil Judson Price, 79, will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 2:00 PM in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Lee Bryant and Rev. David Weaver will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 from 7:00-8:30 PM in Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Association, 1427 Pickens Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

Mr. Price died Sunday, January 9, 2005. Born in Ninety Six, he was the son of the late Edward Judson and Irene Boozer Price. Mr. Price retired from the DuPont Company and was an Honor Graduate of Clemson College where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He was also a Army Air Corps World War II veteran, a pilot, flight instructor and was an active officer in the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Price was a Boy Scout Leader, Eagle Scout and a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn “Brownie” Foster Price; daughter, Ann P. Goff of Leesville; son, Glenn Price of Lugoff; grandchildren, Ashley McLeod, Shanda Bean, Daniel Price, Sarah Price, Emily Price, and Amy Sullivan; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Marion E. Price of Camden.

Mr. Price was predeceased by a son, Bobby M. Price.
