REMBERT — Services with burial for Earie Grant Alston, 97, widow of Hampton Alston, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Grant Hill Baptist Church. Williams Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Sumter Co. to Charlie and Carrie Harriott Grant, she died Jan. 7, 2005. Surviving are children, Sammie, Johnnie, Marie Alston; brothers, Henry, Charlie Grant; 14 grandchildren; 22 great and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Janie Wright

HARTSVILLE — Services with burial for Janie Mae C. Wright, 56, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Young & Young Funeral Home. Born in Chesterfield Co. to James and Eva King Caldwell, she died Jan. 9, 2005. Surviving are husband, Charles Wright; children, Charles Jr., Denise, Marvin Wright, Shedrenette Rush; mother; grandson, Shaquille Wright.

Frances Rogers

FLORENCE — Frances Wilson Rogers, 96, widow of Robert Clifton Rogers, died Monday, January 10, 2005, in a local hospital after an illness.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005, in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

She was born in McClellanville, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Aaron Alvin and Lillian Rebecca Ward Wilson. She was a graduate of Columbia College and attended VCU. She was a retired librarian and teacher.

Mrs. Rogers was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Rogers Poston, and a son, Bryce Rogers.

Survivors include two granddaughters, Monica Lyn Poston of Columbia and Christina Poston Davis of Richmond, VA; two grandsons, Jeffrey N. Poston of Powhatan, VA, and Larry Rogers of Colorado; five great-grandchildren.

Lula Williams

HEMINGWAY — Lula Miller Williams, 88, wife of George Williams, died Monday evening at her residence after an illness.

Mrs. Williams was born in Olanta, a daughter of the late Paul Bethea and Florence Elmer Hill Mixon. She was a homemaker and an active member of Center Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and RA’s. Mrs. Williams was a member of Eastern Star and the Folly Grove Garden Club and participated in several other civic and community activities.

Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are three sons, Haze Bethea (Jackie) Miller and Roddy Mixon (Mary) Miller, both of Hemingway and Randy Lanier (Margaret) Miller of Salem; a daughter, Carrie Lynn Miller (Winky) Elliott of Hemingway; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Mixon of Olanta; and two sisters, Inez Mixon Greene of Turbeville and Pauline Mixon Brown of North Charleston.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a husband, Roland Haze Miller; four brothers, Hill Mixon, Wallace Mixon, Lloyd Mixon, and Wimberly Mixon; and two sisters, Johnnie Youmans and Ethelene Timmons Lyerly.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2005, at the Chapel of Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway with interment following in Garden of Devotion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Tidelands Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29440 or to Center Baptist Church, 2602 Schoolhouse Rd., Hemingway, SC 29554.

Ruby Small

NEESES — Services with burial for Ruby Johnson Small, 97, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Bushy Pond Baptist Church, Norway. Visitation is 3-9 tonight at W.B. Crumel Funeral Home, North. Mrs. Small died January 7, 2005. Surviving are her children, Thelma Stevenson, Pearline Clemons, Larry Stokes; siblings, Mae and James Johnson; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren.

Miriam Ammons

BENNETTSVILLE — Services for Mrs. Miriam Hill Evans Ammons, 93, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation is following the service. Memorials may be made to Little Rock Baptist Church, P.O. Box 158, Little Rock, SC 29567. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Ammon died Tuesday. Born in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Ellie and Leola Marshall Hill. She was a retired nurse, having worked with Dr. Charlie May for over 19 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Little Rock Baptist Church. She was twice married, first to the late Horace Franklin Evans, then to the late Ansel Ammons.

Surviving are a son, Luther Edward Evans (Yvonne) of Chapin; a daughter, Mrs. Iris E. Cottingham (Edward B.) of Bennettsville; a sister, Mrs. Barbara Funderburk of Pageland; daughters-in-law, Catherine M. Evans of Bennettsville and Hildegard Evans of Germany; grandchildren, Jeannie Clifton, Edward B. Cottingham Jr., Brigette Heim, Karin Gottlicher, Pamela Hite, Charlotte Kinley, Meade Evans, Cheryl Jones, Baine Evans and Marshall Evans; 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Horace Frank Evans and Marion Meade Evans; a brother, Donald D. Hill; a sister, Caroline Smith.

Edye Rumsey

COLUMBIA- Graveside services for Edye Pauline Rumsey, 48, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2005, in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Ste. 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Mrs. Rumsey died Monday, January 10, 2005. She was the daughter of the late John E. and Peggy Dell Huneycutt Ferguson. She was a member of Greenhill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis Rumsey of Columbia; brothers, Arthur Dawkins (Mary Ann) of Lexington, Anthony Dawkins (Margie) of Atlanta, GA; sister, Dianne Shirey of West Columbia; mother-in-law, Mary Donovan of Seneca; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gloria Ricks

WARE SHOALS — Services for Gloria Ann Ricks, 51, widow of Billy Ricks, are 2 p.m. Thursday (visitation 7-8:30 tonight) at The Kennedy Mortuary; burial: Laurens City Cemetery. Born in Laurens to Willie and Maggie Tucker Douglas, she died Jan. 10, 2005. Surviving: children, Johnny Ricks, Sherry Bowling; siblings, John Douglas, Kathleen Ricks, Lucindy Davenport; grandchildren, Corey, Caleb and Joshua Ricks.

Loretta Frasier

WALTERBORO — Services for Loretta Clark Frasier, 65, are 2 p.m. today at Brice W. Herndon & Sons Funeral Home with burial in Glendale Memorial Cemetery. Born in Charleston to Allen and Hattie Breaker Clark, she died Jan. 10, 2005. She attended Walterboro Church of God. Surviving are husband, Riddick Frasier Sr.; sons, Riddick Jr., Thomas, Allen Frasier; siblings, Henry Clark, Louise Duboise; 7 grandchildren.

William Lane

LATTA — Services for William Thomas Lane, 42, are 1 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. Born in Alexander, Va., to Aileene Clayton Anderson and William Lane, he died Jan. 10, 2005. He was a member of Hamer Church of God and a Terminex representative. Surviving: mother; wife, Charlotte; children, Thomas and Charta.

Gena Cook

DARLINGTON — A graveside service for Gena Ray Lambert Cook, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Grove Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 tonight at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Born in Darlington Co. to C.F. and Kathleen Smith Lambert, she died Jan. 11, 2005. She was an executive secretary for Mass Mutual Insurance Co. Surviving are husband, Gene Cook; grandchildren, James Brown Jr., Christine Boyd.

Edna Covington

CHERAW — Services for Edna Rae Lawhon Covington, 87, widow of Elliott Covington Sr., 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, burial in Old St. David’s Cemetery, visitation 5:30-7 tonight at Kiser Funeral Home. Born in Darlington Co. to Marvin and Roberta Lawhon, she died Jan. 10, 2005. Surviving: children, Elliott, Julius, Charles Covington, Ann Hiers; siblings, Allen Lawhon, Willie Easterling; 12 grandchildren.

Dorothy Kickey

COLUMBIA — Mrs. Dorothy Louise Agnes Tensfeldt Kickey, wife of the late Alfred Lewis Kickey, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005. Her family will receive friends at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 13. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Children’s Home, or the Children’s Hospital at Palmetto Richland.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., Mrs. Kickey was the daughter of the late George O. and Laura O’Connor Tensfeldt. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was dearly enjoyed by neighbors and friends. She was always the first to offer help or assistance to someone in need. Mrs. Kickey was also widely regarded as a championship bingo player.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Skip and Diane C. Kickey of Arcadia Lakes, and Harry and Joanne K. Kickey of Morris Plains, N.J.; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine K. and David Hinerman of Beachwood, N.J.; brother and sister-in-law, George and Jeanne Tensfeldt of Belleville, N.J.; grandchildren, Dana Kickey Yow, Krissy K. O’Neal, Lenore Kickey Friedman, Allsion Kickey, Brian Kickey, David Hinerman, Jr., and Paul Hinerman; and great-grandson, Joshua Alfred Yow.
