PAWLEYS ISLAND — Services with burial for Betty Rutledge Greene, 64, are 2 p.m. Friday (visitation 6 p.m. Thursday) at St. John AME Church. Wilds Funeral Home, Georgetown, is in charge. Born in Pawleys Island to Julian and Lillie B. Rutledge, she died Jan. 8, 2005. Surviving: husband, Raymond Greene; children, Mark, Patricia, Deloris Greene; siblings, Melvin, Julian, Carl, Julia, Miriam, Eleanor, Theresa.

Freddie Felder

ROWESVILLE — Services for James “Freddie” Felder, 88, widower of Mozell Felder, 2 p.m. Thursday (viewing 1 p.m.) at Central UMC, burial in Peter Bowman Cemetery, Branchville. Glover’s Funeral Home, Orangeburg, is in charge. Born in Rowesville to Joe and Minnie Felder, he died Jan. 7, 2005. Surviving: children, Myrlene Jennings, Hattie Livingston, Rosetta Gilyard, Dorothy Brown, Freddie Felder.

Mary Patterson

LANCASTER — Mary Patterson died January 9, 2005. Mrs. Patterson will be cremated and there will be no services. Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Mt. Airy, N.C., she was a daughter of William and Ann Faulkner. Mrs. Patterson was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star. Surviving: children, Jay and Morgan Patterson; sister, Locke Scott; grandchild, Margaret Patterson.

Benjamin Rodgers Jr.

PROSPERITY — Graveside services for Benjamin Borne Rodgers Jr. will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Family Life Center of Zion United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the church, 80 Zion Circle, Prosperity, SC 29127. The family extends a special thanks to Palmetto Health Hospice for the care they provided their loved one.

Mr. Rodgers, 80, widower of Jewell Collins Rodgers, died January 11, 2005. Born in Erwin, NC, he was the son of the late Benjamin Borne Sr. and Ella Morris Rodgers. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II and Korea. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Prosperity Masonic Lodge #115, Newberry Shrine Club, the Scottish Rites, and the Hejaz Temple.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law; William (Beth) Rodgers of CT, and Benjamin Borne (Debra) Rodgers III of Irmo; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia (Robert) Winter of Cayce and Dorothy (Mark) Reynolds of TN; sisters, Mary Ella Ford and Jessie Gurney, both of North Charleston; brother, James A. Rodgers of Charleston; ten grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Nancy Naso

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Nancy D. Naso, 76, of West Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2005, at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, conducted by Mr. Richard Jaeger, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Naso, wife of V. James Naso, died January 9, 2005. Born in New York, NY, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Nancy Atwood Sessa. Mrs. Naso was a retired registered nurse.

Surviving, besides her husband, are daughter, Linda M. Reeb of Camden, DE; sons, Joe J. Naso of Long Island, NY, Dan J. Naso of Irmo; sister, Edith L. Sessa of Gaston; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Nancy Morgan

ROCK HILL — A memorial service for Nancy Grondin Morgan, 69, widow of Thomas Morgan, is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, with private burial. A vigil service is 7 tonight with visitation following until 8:30 p.m. at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. Surviving: mother Hilda Grondin; brothers, Robert and James Grondin; sons, Kevin, Christopher and David Morgan.

Michael Marler

LAURENS — A graveside service for Michael Curtis Marler, 48, is 2 p.m. today: Forest Lawn Cemetery, visitation after at 1235 Ranch Road. Kennedy Mortuary is in charge. Born in Laurens to Trubee and Bobbie Pulley Marler, he died Jan. 10, 2005. He was a former employee of Her Majesty and was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. Surviving: mother; brother, Barry Marler; nephew, Loch Marler.

Allen Frazier

RIDGE SPRING — Allen Frazier, 58, of 207 Spring St., Ridge Spring, SC, died Thursday, January 6, 2005, in Graniteville, SC.

Services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Edgefield, SC.

Family and friends can view at Davis Funeral Home Wednesday 1:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Survivors: wife, Alicia Frazier; 2 sons, Jeffrey Allen (Letrail) Frazier, Quincy Frazier; 1 daughter, Celita Frazier; 5 grandchildren; 6 sisters, Ethel Butler, Dorothy Williams, Evelyn Mathis, Lillian Miles, Ellen Miles, Annie Jerry; 1 stepsister, Minnie Smith; 2 brothers, Johnny Frazier, Albert Frazier.

James Garner Jr.

LORIS — A memorial service for James Herman Garner Jr., 57, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (visitation 10 a.m. prior) at Hardwick Funeral Home. Born in Pinehurst, N.C., to James Sr. and Francis Holder Garner, he died Jan. 8, 2005. Surviving: daughter, Stephanie Garner and Stephanie’s mother, Deborah Daugherty; brother, Daryl Garner; sister, Kay Bender; seven grandchildren.

Maggie Hilton

LOUISVILLE, Ga. — Services for Maggie Hilton will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthew AME Church, Louisville, Ga. Davis Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge. Surviving: son, Johnie (Nellie) Hilton of Columbia, S.C.; siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ernest Fox

BATESBURG — Ernest Fox, 96, of Batesburg, died Monday, January 10, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2005, at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church with interment in church cemetery with Rev. Dr. William Paulling and Rev. Kyle Harmon officiating. Pallbearers will be Carson L. Fox, Austin H. Fox, Hubert Fox, Robert Fox, Cliff Kneece and Dr. Robert M. Shakar.

Mr. Fox was born in Batesburg to the late Watson and Lizzie Johnson Fox. He was a member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He sang in the choir until he was 92 years old. He was a farmer and carpenter. He helped build the Savannah River Site. His hobby was baking and he would deliver his treats to his friends.

Survived by his former wife, Willette Fox and mother of his 4 children; sons and daughters-in-law, LaVaun and Maggie Fox of Aiken; Troy E. and Marline Fox of Batesburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Maxie Auerhamer of Batesburg; Dale and Calvin Holsenback of Batesburg; half sister, Lacomia Matthews of Aiken; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; special friend, Willette Lybrand.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. Memorial can be made to: Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, c/o Building Fund or c/o Children Play Ground Fund, 4360 Wire Road, Batesburg, SC 29006.

Payton Johnson

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for Charles Payton Johnson, 23, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2005, at New Market United Methodist Church.

The Revs. Phillip Warty and Teddie Moore will officiate with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 12, 2005, from 5-7 p.m. at the Russell and Billie Johnson residence, 2448 Ruby Rd. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Johnson died Sunday, January 9, 2005. Born in Darlington Co., SC, he was a son of Charles Wayne Johnson and Tracy Causey Perdue. He graduated from Hartsville High School and attended Florence-Darlington Technical College for one year. He was loved by many and had many friends.

Surviving are his father and mother of Hartsville, SC; sister, June Johnson of Hartsville, SC; aunts and uncles, Judy and John Howle of Jacksonville, FL, Brenda and Eston Windham of Lamar, SC, Annette and Dennis Biggs of Georgia, Bronice and Rob Windham of Lamar, SC.

Linda Berkheimer

LUGOFF — Memorial service for Linda Sue Berkheimer, 50, will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 2:00 PM in Kornegay Funeral Home Lugoff Elgin Chapel. Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kershaw County, 2001 W. DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Ms. Berkheimer died Tuesday, January 11, 2005. Born in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of Betty Hammel Starnes and the late Harold Lewis Berkheimer. She was employed with Employment Security Commission.

Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Tommy Starnes of Lake Wateree; daughters, Angela D. Cesa and her husband, Christopher, of Groton, CT. and Ashley N. Whitaker and her husband, Johnathan of Camden; 6 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; 3 brothers, Sam, Tommy, and Jeff; 3 sisters, Joy, Marie, and Tina.

John White Sr.

JENKINSVILLE — Mr. John E. White, Sr. was born on September 5, 1943, in Fairfield County. He was the son of John Albert White and the late Susie Mae Martin White, and Stepmother Lovely White of Newberry, S.C. Mr. White was called home to rest with the Lord on Sunday, January 9, 2005, in Lexington Hospital in Lexington, S.C.

Mr. White was loved by all. He attended Fairfield County Schools. Mr. White served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard. He served faithfully as Chief of the Jenkinsville Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He was employed with PCA of Newberry, S.C., until his health declined.

He leaves behind to cherish fond memories his loving and devoted wife, Mary Frances White; Four children, John E. White, Jr., Catherine A. White, Timothy M. White, and Pamela Z. White of Jenkinsville, S.C.; One brother, Benjamin White (Timely) of Newberry, S.C.; four sisters, Ida Mae White (Willie) of Monticello, S.C., Serphine Willingham (Jimmie), Johnnie Mae Baxter (Earl), and Victoria White, all of Newberry, S.C.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Mae White.

Five Grandchildren, devoted grandson, Antonio Marquel White of the home, Five Stepgrandchildren, Two devoted Godsons, Roland Whitfield of Jenkinsville, S.C., and Tony Sawyer of Monticello, S.C., One loving and devoted mother-in-law, Catherine Mills of Jenkinsville, S.C. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Henry Lee Mills. He also leaves to cherish fond memories, one devoted sister-in-law, Stella Willingham of Jenkinsville, SC. Two brothers-in-law, John Mills (Jesse) of Spartanburg, S.C., and Eugene Mills of Suitland, Maryland; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 13, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Chapel Baptist Church with burial in St. Matthews Baptist #2 Church, Blair, SC.

Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, Winnsboro, in charge of service.
