Harold Bouye

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Harold Edward Bouye, 87, of West Columbia, will be held at 3pm Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Paul E. Aebischer and Rev. Virginia S. Aebischer. Entombment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mr. Bouye died Monday, January 10, 2005. Born in Lexington, SC, he was the son of Chesley Edward and Ella Hallman Bouye. Mr. Bouye proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church and was retired from Winn Dixie after 43 years of service. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Lina Elvira Areheart Bouye of West Columbia; daughters and son-in-law, Terri Bouye of Woodbridge, VA, Barbara and Lewis Tankersley of Lawrenceville, GA, Rebekah Bouye of Lexington; grandchildren, Kristan Fite of Fairfax, VA, Brian and Aimee Fite of Woodbridge, VA, Erin and Lauren Tankersley of Lawrenceville, GA; great granddaughters, Alyssa and Hanna Fite; and several nieces and nephews.

Alexander Burns

COLUMBIA — A memorial service for P. Alexander Burns, 92, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Burns died Sunday, January 9, 2005. Born in Vira, Penn., he was a son of the late Dr. Wesley Ray and Grace Alexander Burns of Harrisburg, Penn. Reared in Harrisburg, Penn., he graduated from Harrisburg High School. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1936 with a degree in Architectural Engineering.

Mr. Burns retired in 1977 from Hewitt-Robbins as Director of International Marketing after 35 years of service. He moved to the Columbia area in 1970 following assignments in the Netherlands and the Republic of South Africa. He was a member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, Spring Valley Country Club, and Penn State Alumni Association.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Edith G. Burns; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. and Rachel H. Burns of Woodbury, Conn.; granddaughter, Alison A. Tidmarsh of Stockton on Teme, United Kingdom; great-grandson, John Mungo Alexander Tidmarsh of Stockton on Teme, United Kingdom; brother, Wesley R. Burns, II of Camp Hill, Penn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harold DeLorme Jr.

COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Harold Morgan DeLorme, Jr., 77, will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service in Jackson Hall. Memorials may be made to Carolina Children’s Home or First Presbyterian Church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mr. DeLorme died Tuesday, January 11, 2005. Born in Culver, Indiana April 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Harold Morgan DeLorme and Jeannette White DeLorme. He attended Shandon Elementary School, Hand Junior High and was graduated from Dreher High School in 1944.

He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church. He attended Clemson, left to join the Navy, returned to finish Clemson with the class of 1949. After graduation he worked briefly for the Health Department in Georgia. After working with his father in the insurance business, he joined Harris Upham Stock Brokerage House. In his later years he worked for the South Carolina Archives where he became interested in genealogy research. For many years he gathered family histories for individuals all around the state. He retired in 1989.

He is survived by his numerous cousins including, Charles “Whit” Anderson, Jr. of Columbia and William D. Anderson of Beaufort.

Lottie Barber

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Lottie Barber, of 205 Isaac Street, Greenview Community, will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Blythewood with burial in the church cemetery. Wake services will be 7 this evening at Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel. Mrs. Lottie Barber departed this earthly life January 8, 2005 at Heartland of Columbia after a long decline in health. She was born October 20, 1912 in Blythewood, S.C. to the late James Green and Mary T. Green. She was a faithful member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Blythewood, S.C. and Logan Order of Tents. She retired from the Department of Mental Health - Food Service. Mrs. Barber leaves to cherish her precious memory four daughters, Mary Frances Gillyard, Wildwood, NJ, Sarah (Thomas) Stevenson, Gladys B. Brown, and Louise B. Williams of Columbia, SC; one son, Benjamin F. (Gloria) Barber, Columbia, SC; one brother, Ester Green, Blythewood, SC; ten grands; fifteen great-grands; 1 great-great-grand; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Ingrid Boykin

COLUMBIA — Services for Ingrid Anissa Boykin will be held 3 p.m. Thursday (viewing at 2 p.m.) at First Nazareth Baptist Church with burial in Lincoln Cemetery. Wake services will be 6 this evening at Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel. Surviving are her parents, Charles and Belinda Crumpton Boykin; two daughters, Megan C. Boykin and Autumn G. Boykin; two brothers, Innis Boykin and Ryan Boykin; ten aunts; eight uncles; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Mellie Hare

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Mellie Mack Hare, 96, of West Columbia, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2005, at West Columbia Church of Christ, officiated by Minister Ernest Richards, with burial in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Columbia Church of Christ.

Mrs. Hare, widow of David Tillman Hare, died Monday, January 10, 2005. Born in North, she was the daughter of the late Dornel and Lillie Phillips Mack. Mrs. Hare was a member of West Columbia Church of Christ.

Surviving are her daughter, Marion Judith Bradham of Florida; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hare was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.

Arthur Johnston Sr.

HARLEYVILLE — Arthur William Johnston, of 288 East Main Street, Harleyville, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005, in Trident Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Reynolds officiating and burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home in St. George.

He was born December 12, 1919, in Dorchester, a son of the late William and Lavina Flickner Johnston, and reared by his adopted parents, Hampton and Mamie Parker. He graduated from Harleyville High School in 1938 and, in 1941, he graduated from the Textile Industrial Institute now known as Spartanburg Methodist College. He was in the Navel Reserve in Honolulu, Hawaii, rebuilding Pearl Harbor from 1942 until 1944. He was a retired electrician for Giant Cement Company and a member of Ruritan Club of Harleyville and Bethel United Methodist Church, where he was a former Church Treasurer and member of Administrative Board. He was a former Magistrate for Harleyville.

He was predeceased by brothers, Grover Johnston, J.D. Johnston, Henry Parker and a sister, Edna J. Myers.

Surviving are his wife, Bessie Pearl Mizell Johnston; sons, Arthur W. “Billy” Johnston, Jr. and his wife, Vickie, all of Harleyville, Wade Hampton Johnston and his wife, Pamela of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, William and Debbie Johnston, III, Harleyville, Jennifer and Stacy Axson and their daughter, Shelby, of Bowman, and Andrew Johnston and Jordan Johnston of Indianapolis, IN; brothers, Carlyle (Ruth) Johnston, North Charleston and George (Odell) Parker, Dorchester; sister-in-law, Catherine (Sweetie) Parker, Holly Hill.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of U.Z. Baxley, 987 Second Bend Road, Harleyville, SC 29448.

Martha Anderson

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Martha Page Anderson, 62, of 2019 Oak Street, will be 3 p.m. Friday in the Manigault-Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, 2229 Two Notch Road, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Daughter of the late Randolph and Queen Esther Williams Page, she was born in Barnwell, S.C., and died on Friday, January 7, 2005, at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.

She attended the public schools of Barnwell, New York, and Columbia. She was a former employee of Little’s Nursery, and former member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. And was the widow of Daniel Anderson.

Survivors are: a daughter, Debra (Herbert) Ray; one son, James Anderson; a sister, Bert Johnson; four grandchildren, Trey Davis, Cheryl Davis, Jessica Anderson, and Crystal Anderson; and a host of other relatives and loving friends.

Kenneth DeBerry Sr.

COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Mr. Kenneth Eugene DeBerry, Sr., 76, of Columbia will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2005 in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The American Diabetic Association. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. DeBerry died on Tuesday, January 11, 2005. Born in Charlotte, NC he was the son of the late Marvin Eugene DeBerry and Bertha Lee Plott DeBerry. He was a veteran of the US Army in which he fought in the Korean War. Mr. DeBerry was owner of Mon-Ken Bearing Supply Company.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Mrs. Mary Lucille DeBerry of the home; a daughter, Susan Elaine DeBerry; sons, Kenneth Eugene DeBerry, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Seattle, Washington , Steve Lee DeBerry and his wife Kathy of Lexington, SC and Ben F. DeBerry and his wife Belinda of Lexington, SC; a sister, Ann Lanning of Wilmington, NC and a brother Marvin DeBerry of Cheraw, SC; seven grandchildren.

Thaddaus Driggers

SUMTER — Services for Thaddaus T. Driggers, 89, are 3 p.m. (visitation 2 p.m.) Friday: Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home, burial in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Born in Williamsburg Co. to Moses and Martha Driggers, he died Jan. 12, 2005. Surviving: wife, Juanita; children, Ollie Jashinsky, Brenda Barrineau, Pat Wegrzynowski, Tommy Driggers Jr.; 7 stepchildren; predeceased by first wife, Ottis Driggers.

Joe Green Jr.

ST. HELENA ISLAND — Services for Joe M. Green Jr., 37, are 11 a.m. today at Faith Memorial Baptist Church with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors. Marshel’s Wright-Donaldson Home for Funerals, Beaufort, is in charge. Born in Colleton Co. to Joe Green Sr. and Eldora Green Brown, he died Jan. 10, 2005. Surviving: wife, Susan; mother; brothers, Jeremy Green, Matthew Brown; 2 grandparents.
