Willie Frye

SUMTER — Willie James Frye, 57, entered eternal rest Wednesday, January 12, 2005 in Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Florence, he was a son of the late Robert Frye and the late Molinda Miles Frye.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sumter Freewill Baptist Church of the Pentecostal Faith. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of his children, 119 Woodside Road.

Memorials may be made to the Jeanne C. Watson Oncology Endowment, in care of the Tuomey Foundation, 115 N. Sumter St., Suite #120, Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad Street, Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

Sammy Wise

LEXINGTON — Services with burial for Sammy Lee Wise, 48, are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Lexington Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Lexington to William and Cynthia Wise, he died Dec. 12, 2005. Surviving are his parents; child, Tamara Wise; sisters, Jayne Harris, Veronica Wise; brothers, Stanley, Barry and Wayne Wise. He was predeceased by a brother, Barney Wise.

Annie Wood

ELGIN — Services for Annie Glenn Wood, 99, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Sinai AME Church, where she was a member, with burial in the church cemetery. Collins Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Kershaw County to James and Cornelia Motley Glenn, she died January 11, 2005. Surviving are her daughter, Eloise Wright; 34 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Daisy Lyles.

Mauddell Williamson

COLUMBIA — A celebration of life service for Mauddell Ayers Williamson, 95, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 3 o’clock, preceding the service. Reverend Edgar West, Jr., of Greenville and North Augusta, long time friend of the Williamson-Ayers family, will conduct the services. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Williamson’s grandsons: Carrington Rich Crabtree, Chandler Ryan Crabtree, Gregory Scott Rhame, and Corey Reagan Crabtree. Burial will be immediately following the service in Greenlawn Memorial Park on Garner’s Ferry Road. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice.

Mrs. Williamson was born November 8, 1909, in Bowman, S.C. to Maude Segrest Ayers and John Henry Ayers. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1926 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in music. Mrs. Williamson was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty years, the late Harry Fenton Williamson. The Williamsons were members of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church.

Mrs. Williamson is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Rhame) Williamson of Chapin, and Rozann Crabtree Fulgham of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Leland Ayers and his wife Jeanne Ayers of Columbia; six grandchildren, Wyndelyn Rhame Sipe and her husband, Dr. Patrick Sipe of Virginia and Dr. Sipe is currently serving with the U.S. Navy in Iraq, Carrington Rich Crabtree and his wife Sheila Wilson Crabtree of Atlanta, Ga., Elizabeth “Betsy” Rhame Salter and her husband Dr. Richard Salter of Columbia, Gregory Scott Rhame of Columbia, Chandler Ryan Crabtree and his wife Michelle Simpers Crabtree of Virginia Beach and Charleston, and Corey Regan Crabtree of Raleigh, N.C. Also surviving Mrs. Williamson are four great-grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Sipe, Matthew Gregory Sipe, Alexandra Kathryn Crabtree, and William Lee Salter, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family extends special thanks to the critical care nursing staff at the Lowman Home in White Rock, the doctor, nurse, chaplain and aide of Luthern Hospice. The loving caretakers, Cheryl Smith and Shirley Gabr for providing dignity, peace and love during the last months when critical, around-the-clock diligence was so necessary. Their care and devotion will always be remembered.

Lucille Williamson

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Mrs. Lucille Gay Williamson was born on October 28 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the oldest daughter of John and Mamie Wilson Gay. She passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2005. She was an avid traveler in her early years before settling down in Newburgh, NY, where she met and married Herbert Williamson who predeceased her in 1970.

A strong and devout member of the Newburgh Tabernacle S.D.A. Church, she was active in the offices of deaconess, Community Services Worker and Clerk. Her passion was cooking and serving food to the community, friends, family, homeless and even actor, Clifton Davis, in her home. During her later years, she worked for the Foster Grandparent Program which she also loved. Strong, independent and feisty to the very end, one of her favorite sayings was, “Let my works speak for me!”

She was predeceased by a son, Bennie Cope of Detroit, Michigan, a daughter, Etta Williamson, three sisters and one brother of Columbia and Gadsden, South Carolina.

Mourning, and cherishing fond memories of her are, her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Council of Asheville, N.C., Mrs. Bernadette Stevens of Beacon, N.Y.; and son, Christopher Williamson of Newburgh; stepchildren of Beacon and New York City, N.Y.; four sisters, Lillie Garrick of Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Ivy Lee Green, Mrs. Rosie Belle Jackson and Mrs. Selena Washington of Gadsden, S.C.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand and great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are on Monday, January 17, 2005, viewing from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. Services will be held at Newburgh Tabernacle S.D.A., 251-9 Grand St., Newburgh, NY 12550 845-565-5053.

Joseph Williams

COLUMBIA — Services for Elder Joseph Williams will be held 1 p.m. Saturday (viewing at noon) at Refuge Temple Church, 4450 Argent Court, Columbia, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge.

Mr. Williams retired from Richland School District One (W.A. Perry Middle School) in 1991 after 38 years of service. Elder Williams was one of the principle founders of the Emmanuel Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ and pastored several sister churches in the movement. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sallie Mills Williams; children, Joseph (Thomasina) Williams, Ft. Washington , MD, Howard Williams, Fayetteville, NC, James (Queenie) Williams, Jimmie (Phyllis) Williams, Johnnie (Sallie) Williams; Ida Renee (Toney) Thompson and Kenneth Williams, all of Columbia; two brothers, John Hopkins, Washington , DC and Willie Hopkins, Tampa, FL; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mary White

LEESVILLE — Services for Mary Ella Nichols White, 98, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barr-Price Historic B-L Chapel with the Rev. Bill Ebener officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cain Cemetery in Abbeville. Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 3178 Denny Hwy., Prosperity, SC 29127. Visitation will follow the service.

Mrs. White died Thursday, January 13, 2005. Born in Saluda County, a daughter of the late Andrew David Frederick and Mary Alice Derrick Nichols. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, WELCA, the Delmar Community Club and retired from the Saluda Shirt Company. Her great-grandfather, Luke Nichols, was one of the founding members of Union Lutheran Church.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard W. White; brothers, Rufus Bachman Nichols, William Wesley Nichols, James Derrick Nichols.

Robert Wells Jr.

ORANGEBURG — Services for Robert “Bobby” Wells, Jr., 63, of 121 Squirel Run, will be held two p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Folk Funeral Home Chapel, 170 Elko St., Williston, with burial in the Blackville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the home in Orangeburg. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 7275, Columbia, SC 29202-9649. Mr. Wells died on Thursday.

Born in Blackville, S.C., he was a son of Bertha Proctor Wells and the late Robert Wells Sr. He owned and operated Southside Mobile Home Supplies in Orangeburg and was a member of Healing Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother of Blackville; wife, Carolyn Roberson Wells of the home; daughter, Marlene McLeod of Swansea; son, Ricky Wells of Swansea; stepdaughter, Stacie Geddings Sidwell of Orangeburg; stepson, Clayton Geddings of Orangeburg; sisters, Gertrude Croft of Blackville and Elsie Porter of Lexington; brother, George L. Wells of Hilda; three grandchildren, Scott, Kelly and Abby; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd Wells.

Harold Sweatman

HOLLY HILL — Mr. Harold Odell “Bub” Sweatman, 81, of 1313 Gemini Drive, Holly Hill, owner of Sweatman’s Bar-B-Que, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at his home.

The funeral will be 2 PM Saturday in the chapel of Avinger Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Owens and Rev. Tim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Southern Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Sweatman was born in Holly Hill, a son of the late Talmadge O. Sweatman and Effie Robinson Sweatman. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired farmer.

Mr. Sweatman was a member of Fishermans Unlimited and the Oak Tree Club. In 1977 with his family he founded Sweatman’s Bar-B. Que. Mr. Sweatman was preceded in death by sons, Harold Wayne “Butch” Sweatman and James Allen “Al” Sweatman; and a grandson, Travis Pickney Sweatman. He was the widower of Margie Faulling Sweatman.

Surviving are daughters, Judy Scott and Patricia Wolpert, both of Holly Hill, and Susan French of Elloree; sisters, Gladys Layton of Charleston and Jewel Amspacher of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Carolyn Storie, Jamie Sweatman, Amanda Wolpert, Paul Wolpert, Amy Bunch, Harold “Bubba” McCleod, and Stacy Weathers; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM this Friday, and other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, 1815 Old Trolley Road, Suite 109, Summerville, SC 29485, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Sammie Todd

CONWAY — Services with burial for Sammie Davis “Dave” Todd, 95, correction officer, retired farmer, are 11 a.m. Saturday at Antioch United Methodist Church. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Palmetto Funeral Home. Born in Horry Co. to Alvie and Susan Altman Todd, he died Jan. 12, 2005. Surviving: wife, Reba Register Todd; children, Jack Todd, Erie Mae Gore, Virginia James; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
