COLUMBIA — Services for Jennifer “Mona” Pratt Smith will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Clemson Road Kingdom Hall. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Munich, Germany, to William and Bessie Smith Pratt, she died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving: husband, Rozzie Smith; children, Lexa, Toreya, Damon, Charrise Smith; father, William; stepmother, Betty; siblings, Brian, Monica, Sonya and Julie.

Shaniz-Jah Simmons

GRAY'S HILL — Shaniz-Jah Simmons, 1 year old daughter of Sanquinetta Simmons, born in Beaufort, died Jan. 10, 2005. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Horsepond Baptist Church, burial: Pilgrim Cemetery, Burton. Marshels Wright-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge. Surviving: mother; brother, Sayvionne Aiken; grandparents, Pearl Simmons, Robert Haliburton; great-grandmothers, Nancy Simons, Eula Haliburton.

Clarence Sheeley

POMARIA — Clarence Ray Sheeley, 61, of Columbia died Wednesday.

Born in Pomaria, Mr. Sheeley was a son of Maude Spotts Sheeley and the late Johnny Ray Sheeley. He had retired from General Electric and was a member of Pomaria Lutheran Church. He was a 1962 Graduate of Mid-Carolina High School where he played football.

He is survived, in addition to his mother of Pomaria, by a daughter, Gena S. Lester of Prosperity; a son, Brian R. Sheeley of Pomaria, a sister, Doris “Dottie” Sheeley of Columbia, two brothers, Stanley C. Sheeley of Prosperity and Robert E. Sheeley of Pomaria; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Pomaria Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Pomaria Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

The family suggests that those desiring may make memorials to Pomaria Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 246, Pomaria, 29126 or to a charity of ones choice.

James Samuel Sr.

BLYTHEWOOD — Services for Mr. James Abraham Samuel, Sr., of 1309 Lorick Rd, will be held 2:00 pm Saturday at Little Zion Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Palmer Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Mr. Samuel died Wednesday, January 12, 2005. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Arthur and Eolus Samuel. He was a deacon and choir leader of Little Zion Baptist Church. He retired from the Richland County Sheriff's Dept. and a former member of the Fairfield Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth T. Samuel; sons, Min. James, Jr. (Joyce), Douglas (DeLoise), Frankie, and Ray (Vanessa) Samuel; a daughter, Carolyn (Rev. Robert) Entzminger; brothers, Rev. Eddie (Pearlee), Dea. Sherman (Dorothy) and Dea. Charlie (Ijetta) Samuel; sister, Min. Queen Esther (Rev. William) McCants; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Clarence Roper

VANCE — Services with burial for Clarence Roper, 74, are 1 p.m. Saturday: Rock Hill AME Church. Eutawville Community Funeral Home, Eutawville, is in charge. Born in Charleston to Harry and Thelma Camp Roper, raised by James and Rebecca Gadson, he died Jan. 10, 2005. Surviving: daughter, Ineather Thompson; 6 stepchildren; companion, Martha Clark and her 3 children; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.

Sim Reed

WRENS, Ga. — A graveside service for Sim “S.T.” Reed, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Martain’s Crossroads, Lincolnton, Ga., visitation following. Mr. Reed died January 11, 2005, in Keysville, Ga. Surviving: spouse, Ann B. Reed; son, Wayne Reed; daughter, Lanetta Simmons; brothers, Grady, Herbert and John Reed; sisters, Katherine Tuten, Carolyn Fletcher, Shirley Honcock.

John Adkins Sr.

WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral Services for Mr. John Austin Adkins, 80, of West Columbia, SC, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roger Clark, officiating with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr. Adkins died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at his residence. Born in Dixianna, SC, he was the son of the late William Oscar Adkins and Minnie Lee Austin Adkins. He was a veteran of the US Navy in which he served during WWII. Mr. Adkins was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC and he also retired from Tamper, a division of Atlantic Steel.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Mrs. Ruby J. Adkins of the home; daughters, Karen Clark and her husband, Jim, of Cayce, SC and Deirdre “DeeDee” Chavis and her husband, Russell, of Swansea, SC; sons, John A. Adkins, Jr. and his wife, Vivian, of Lexington, SC and Rex Adkins and his wife, Lori, of West Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James Anderson Jr.

FLORENCE — James Clinton “Jimmy” Anderson, Jr., 58, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at his residence after an illness.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday January 18, 2005, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

He was born in Batesburg, SC, a son of the late James Clinton and Chrystal Baker Anderson. He was an automobile mechanic and the owner of Anderson’s Garage.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Miller Anderson of the home; two sons, Randy Anderson and his fiance, Melissa Adams, and Rodney James Anderson and his wife, Robin, all of Florence; three sisters, Roberta (Eugie) Elkins of Gilbert, Joann (Phillip) Hartley of Aiken, and Teresa Mabus of Batesburg; two brothers, Gene Baker and Robert Anderson, both of Gilbert; two step-sisters; two step-brothers; four grandchildren, Christopher Anderson, Tisha Anderson, Chrystal Anderson, and Rodney James Anderson, Jr.; three step-grandchildren, Johnny Barfield, Katelyn James and Amber Berberich; and three great-grandchildren.

Paul Beckham

DARLINGTON — Paul “P.H.” Haskell Beckham, age 81, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 in a local hospital. Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Beckham was born in Lanes, SC, a son of the late Sam C. and Ada Robinson Beckham. He served his country in the United States Army, participating in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was the recipient of numerous awards. He was a member of the SC Army National Guard from 1949-1968 as AST and was the general manager of Southeastern Recon, a division of Clanton’s from 1968-1984. Mr. Beckham was a Shriner, Omar Temple and life member of St. David’s Lodge. He was a lifetime member of Central Baptist Church and the Harper Bible Class. He will be remembered for his love of God, family, friends, golf and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Tedder Beckham of Darlington; three sons, Mike (Barbara) Beckham, Ted (Vera) Beckham, both of Darlington and Melvin Beckham of Hendersonville, NC; granddaughter, Ashton Beckham; three step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter, three step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, L.W. “Dusty” Beckham of Darlington and Theron Beckham of Winchester, KY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Free Will Baptist Church Memorial Building Fund, P.O. Box 287, Darlington, SC 29540.

Visitation will follow the memorial service at the funeral home Monday.

Dianne Dooley

LEXINGTON — Services for Dianne Cook Dooley, 58, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at West Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church with entombment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2005 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Sunshine Club of West Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2312 Platt Springs Rd., West Columbia, SC 29169.

Mrs. Dooley died Saturday, January 15, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Estelle Bass Cook. Mrs. Dooley was a member of West Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church and served as Hostess.

She is survived by her husband, Morris Dooley; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Keegan Covell, daughter, Deborah Dooley; son, Morris L. Dooley, Jr.; granddaughter, Hailey Covell, all of Lexington; brothers and sisters, Clarence Billy Cook of Niceville, FL, Thelma Floyd of Elgin, Bernice Kirby of Camden, Brenda (Pat) Ortmann of Elgin, Sara E. Cooper of Panama City, FL, Donald (Bo) Cook of Columbia, James (Bud) Cook of Elgin, Gary Cook of Elgin, Ronald Cook of Columbia, Linda Abbott of West Columbia, and Stanley Cook of Columbia.

Geraldine Frampton

SUMMERVILLE — Geraldine (Jerry) MacNeal Frampton, 90, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 in Summerville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Robert Charles MacNeal and Irma Sickler MacNeal and was born February 3, 1914 in Sumter, South Carolina. She was the widow of Edmund Gregorie Frampton. Her graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 18th at 3:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Friends may visit with the family after the service.

Mrs. Frampton’s warm and gentle nature helped her develop many friendships in Mt. Pleasant, St. George, Sumter, Georgetown and Columbia. She loved playing bridge, reading and in earlier years was a soup kitchen volunteer. She was an active member of her church in each town she lived. She was a member of New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church in McClellanville, SC.

Mrs. Frampton is survived by her daughter, Geraldine (Dene) King and her husband George (Chip) King of Columbia, SC; a son, Gregorie (Greg) Frampton and his wife Macy of McClellanville, SC; four grandchildren, George King and his wife Susanna of Columbia, SC; Elizabeth Gregorie King of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Edmund Frampton of Folly Beach, SC; Harris Frampton and his wife Shondra of Summerville, SC and great granddaughter, Laurel Frampton.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church, PO Box 460, McClellanville, SC 29458.
