Judith Bradley

INMAN — Judith A. Reese Bradley, 61, of 1421 Hickory Nut Road, Inman, passed away Tuesday, January 18th, at her residence, after an extended illness.

Born in Louisville, KY, on Sunday, December 12, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Rev. W.W. and Geneva (Lamb) Reese.

She was the wife of Cecil Ray Bradley.

She was a member of Inman First Baptist Church, Inman, SC. Judy was a 1962 graduate of Chapman High School, received her RN certification in 1975 from USC and a BS degree from USC in 1986, a graduate of Leadership Spartanburg in 1990, a member of the District One School Board, former chair of the Spartanburg County Democratic Party, a long time employee of Spartanburg Regional Hospital, and retired from nursing after 21 years of dedicated service.

She is survived by her husband and two sons, Kenneth Bradley and his wife Nannette of Pelion, SC, Robert Bradley, and his wife Amy of James Island, SC, one sister, Eleanor Huneycutt and her husband Avery of Inman; two brothers, Glenn Reese and his wife Janis of Inman, and James Reese of Spartanburg.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Good Shepherd Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, SC, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20th, with Rev. Chuck Byrd officiating.

Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, SC.

The family is at the home and will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Seawright Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dialysis Clinic, Inc., 155 Dillon Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29307.

Elizabeth Lively

MARION — Elizabeth Bryant Lively, 70, died Monday, January 17, 2005, at her residence after an illness. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mrs. Lively’s residence. Smith-Collins Funeral Home is in charge.

Nathan Bryan

PAMPLICO — Nathan Harllee Bryan, 73, of 718 Pamela Circle, Pamplico, SC, died early Tuesday morning, January 18, 2005, in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Mr. Bryan was born in Pamplico, SC, a son of the late Sheppie and Edna Mae Cox Bryan. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Pamplico Lions Club, a member of the American Legion, a member of the First Baptist Church of Pamplico and a director of the First Baptist Church Joy Club. He had retired as a controller for E.I. DuPont of Florence.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Sarah Curry.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Singletary Bryan of the home; 1 son, Nathan Harllee Bryan, Jr. and his wife, Tammie, of Columbia, SC; 3 daughters, Natalie Knight and her husband, Scott, of Florence, SC, Lori Ricard and her husband, Danny, of Pomaria, SC, and Nicole Bryan of Winnsboro, SC; 1 brother, Harris Bryan and his wife, Jeanette of Florence, SC; 3 sisters, Clara Pait and her husband Vernon of Pamplico, SC, Elizabeth Kelly and her husband, Steve of Wilmington, NC, and Martha Kinlaw of Bladenboro, NC; 5 grandchildren, Brynn Rogers, Lauren Knight, Rhett Ricard, Drew Ricard and Tyler Merschat; 2 aunts, Doreen Copeland and Bertha Chandler both of Florence, SC; and 1 uncle, Winford Evers of Bladenboro, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the Pamplico First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at 2517 Meridian Street, Florence.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Pamplico, SC.

Barbara Parker

BOILING SPRINGS — Barbara Lannigan Parker, of 211 Blalock Road, went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2005, after a year long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was the wife of Ron L. Parker of the home.

Mrs. Parker was a native of Lake City, South Carolina, and was a daughter of the late Orin B. and Sara DuRant Lawrence. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Blythewood, SC.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters: Kelley Lannigan of Blythewood, Tracy Ross of Atlanta, Ga., and stepdaughter: Rhonda Arwood of Moore, SC; sons: Kenneth Lannigan, Jr. of Lexington, SC, Patrick Lannigan of Allendale, SC, and Benjamin Lannigan of Columbia, SC; sisters; Janene Long and Myrna Hanna of Chapin, SC, and Cheryl Marsh of Lake City, SC. Three granddaughters: Megan, Sara and Ann Lannigan also survive her. She was predeceased by a brother: Carol Lawrence.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, and again from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2005, at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Funeral Chapel. Rev. Alan Peeler will officiate. Entombment will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Paul Kamber

COLUMBIA — Services for Paul John Kamber, 55, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Columbia Ward, Jackson Boulevard, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Humanitarian Fund, 4440 Jackson Boulevard, Columbia, S.C. 29209.

Mr. Kamber died Wednesday, January 19, 2005. Born in New York City, N.Y., he was a son of the late Mustapha Kamber and Anna Kamber Self. He was a 1967 graduate of Dreher High School, graduate of the University of South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina Law School. A self-employed attorney, he was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Columbia Ward, Jackson Boulevard, currently serving in the Military Branch.

Surviving are his wife, Anne Coleman Kamber; daughters, Emily Boesl and her husband, Christian of Columbia, Kristin Kamber of Columbia, Lauren Hughes and her husband, Bob of Charleston, and Blair Kamber of Charleston; brother, Kenneth Kamber of Ft. Bragg, California; two grandchildren, Anna and Evan Boesl; and sister-in-law, Patricia J. Kamber of Seattle, Wash. He was predeceased by a brother, Earl C. Kamber.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Joe, Missy, Cindy and Laura of his law firm and the staff of Intermedical of South Carolina for their love and special care during his illness.

Cmdr. Blaine Eader

NEWBERRY — CDR Blaine Edward Eader, USN (Ret.) passed away on January 13, 2005, in Newberry County Memorial Hospital in Newberry, S.C. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Visitation will be held at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home on Friday, evening January 21, 2005, from 5-7 o’clock. Memorials may be made to the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, 701 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Suite 123, Washington , DC 20004-2608 or Central United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 67, Newberry, SC 29108.

CDR Eader was born in Lewistown, Maryland on January 10, 1918. He was the son of the late Lewis Blaine Eader and Grace Bowers Eader. He was a 1934 graduate of Frederick High in Frederick, Maryland. He was also a 1940 graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and a career Naval officer. During his distinguished Naval career he served on the USS Snapper, the USS Puffer, and the USS Lionfish; he also served on the ISS Nereus and participated in Operation Roads End that sank the remaining vessels of the Japanese Navy at the end of the WWII. He served on the USS Mississippi, USS San Diego, and the USS Cabot. He was Executive Officer of the USS Goodrich, and served as Commanding Officer of the USS Jeffers. the USS Ammen, and the USS Daly. He held the post of Provost Marshal in Bainbridge, Maryland and served with the Chief of Operations at the Navy Department in Washington , DC. He was Head of the Department of Ordnance and Gunnery at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and later served as a member of the Airborne Early Warning Wing in the Atlantic. His final Naval assignment was as the Officer in Charge of the Foreign Ship Training Section of the Fleet Training Center in Norfolk, Virginia. He received numerous commendations and medals, many in connection with the battles he fought in the Pacific during the war

After retiring from the Navy, he earned a Master’s degree in mathematics from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He then moved to Newberry, South Carolina, and became a member of the mathematics department at Newberry College He retired from Newberry College in 1979. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Newberry. He was also a member of the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation and the Naval Academy Alumni Association in addition to several other military organizations

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Margaret Shirley Weakley Eader, his daughter. Karen Eader Derrick-Chong and son-in-law, Rev Yu-Fong Chong, of Columbia; granddaughter, Jennifer Derrick, also of Columbia, and grandson, William Derrick and his wife, Tammy of Grand Rapids, Michigan; stepgrandchildren, Allan Chong and his wife, Katie, Bryan Chong, and Ruth Chong, all of California; and three great-grandchildren. CDR Eader is also survived by his sister, Susan England and brother-in-law, Clifford England of Shady Point, Oklahoma; his brother, Robert Eader and his wife, Barbara Eader of Frederick, Maryland; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Bernard Eader (Donna) of Frederick, Maryland, his brother-in-law, Lester Burrier of Thurmont, Maryland, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Granison Eader, Cliford Eader, and Bernard Eader, and sisters, Pauline Eader and Lillian Eader Burrier.

Gwendolyn Rhodes

COLUMBIA — Services for Gwendolyn Corley Baughman Rhodes, 85, of Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2005, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Corley, Rick Brazil, Larry Corley, Bobby Corley, Stephen Brazil and Keith Corley. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Tsunami Relief Aid, c/o American Red Cross, 2751 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Rhodes died Sunday, January 16, 2005. Born in Fairview, SC, she was a daughter of the late George Lee and Luticia Gantt Corley. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of First Baptist Church of Rock Hill. She had retired as a nurse support technician from the SC Department of Mental Health and was an avid gardener.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Anne Elizabeth Brazil Hooper and Lionel Ashley Hooper of Charlotte, NC; son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Esther Baughman of Winnsboro; sister, Magdalene Lawrence of Fairbanks, AK; brothers, M.C. Corley and his wife, Joyce of Lexington, Robert Corley and his wife, Gertrude, J.C. Corley, Austin Corley and his wife, Nina, all of West Columbia, Odell Corley of Pelion; grandsons, Ted William Brazil, Jr. of Little Rock, AR, Stephen Gregory Brazil and his wife, Dina Jenkins Brazil of Spartanburg; great granddaughter, Ashley Grier Brazil of Winthrop University; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rhodes was predeceased by brothers, Leo, Woodrow, and Peter Corley.

Charles Derrick

WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Mr. Charles R. Derrick, Jr., 77, of West Columbia, will be held 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, January 21, 2005, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, conducted by The Reverend Bill Clore. Interment will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock this (Thursday) evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Derrick died Tuesday, January 18, 2005. Born in Lexington County, SC, he was a son of the late Charles R. and Janie Mathias Derrick He had retired from Jeff Hunt Machinery. Mr. Derrick was a U.S. Marine veteran of WWII.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Ron DuPont of Charleston, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Debbie Derrick of Gaston, Robert and Sheila Derrick of South Congaree and Bill and Leslie Derrick of Decatur, TN; grandchildren, Kelly Watson, Tara Allen, Scott Vest, Chris Vest, J.J. Brazzell, Ron Brazzell Derrick, Cody Ray Derrick and Blake Levi Derrick; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Buford Derrick and a sister, Mary Derrick Thornton. Mr. Derrick was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Elizabeth Newman Derrick.
